RULES
THE T.M.C.A. COMMITTEE ADVISES THAT THE FOLLOWING MUST BE OBSERVED
• NO GLASS policy will be enforced. Vehicles will be checked on entry.
• Alcohol in glass containers will be confiscated on entry or at camps.
• NO irresponsible, careless or dangerous riding will be tolerated.
• All riders must wear an approved equestrian helmet at all times when
mounted. No helmet, no ride.
• Dogs must be kept on a leash at all times unless competing in high jump.
• Rubbish to be taken home in bags provided.
• NO vehicle movement after 8 pm (this will be enforced by security).
• NO 2 or 4 wheel motorbikes permitted on site unless authorised by TMCA.
• No Fires (includes contained).
• This year there is no band. Any drunken disorderly behaviour will not be
tolerated. Anyone displaying antisocial behaviour will be removed from the
venue by new security personnel or legally detained until police arrive.

SUNDAY - TRAIL RIDES
7.30 – 9.00 am Registrations for the rides taken at the TMCA caravan.
All riders must be registered.
9.00 – 9.30 am Marshalling. Riders to wear an approved equestrian helmet and
be equipped with tethering gear.
Horses required to be moderately fit and recommended recently
shod or booted.
No dogs or alcohol on rides. No double dinking or leading of
unmounted horses.
10.00 am Main trail ride departs. B.Y.O. lunch or ordered at the Lions food van
by Saturday evening with these delivered to the lunch stop.
10.15am Colleen Allison-O’Toole Memorial trail ride departs. Held over easy terrain of approximately 1 hour. Children on leading
rein welcome.
3.00 pm Main trail ride returns.
Due to the rapid rise in horse and animal welfare concerns, horses may be paraded and
inspected by the veterinary officer before participation.

Same format as Championship stock horse race. Please note does include running to pick up

EVENT 13. SPREYTON VETERINARY SERVICES JUVENILE STOCK HORSE RACE.
For entrants under 14 years on horses not competing in Championship.
Conducted on similar lines as Event 11. No requirement to run & pick up oilskin coat. Stock
saddle not compulsory. Entry Fee $5
EVENT 14. PHILIP DAVEY SHEET METAL TEAMS RELAY RACE.
Teams of three horses and four riders. Event to be run as a relay over 4 legs. All riders to be
over the age of ten years. Stock saddle compulsory. Riders & horses may compete in 1
team only. Team name only to be submitted at the time of entry.
First Leg First competitor starts unmounted. Leading his horse he runs 20 metres to full-
length oilskin coat, (must be lined), puts it on, mounts and races to calf. At calf, he
dismounts, picks it up, remounts and races to second rider waiting at Point A (No log jumps).
Second Leg Second rider takes calf and races to Point B over log jumps and passes calf to
third rider.
Third Leg Third rider, mounted bareback, takes calf and races to point C where fourth rider is
waiting to be picked up. (No log jumps)
Fourth Leg Together they race mounted and still carrying calf to finish line (No log jumps)
Entry fee $20 per team
EVENT 15. IAN ATKINS & GUNNY MEMORIAL SENIOR WALKING RACE.
For riders 18 years and over. To be over a course of approximately 1.5 km of undulating
terrain. Rules: If the horse breaks, a circle must be turned and a walk re-established.

EVENT 16. REG DIXON MEMORIAL JUNIOR WALKING RACE.
For riders under 14 - 17 years. Rules as for Event 15. Entry fee $3
EVENT 17. CHARLESTON FAMILY JUVENILE WALKING RACE.
For riders under 14 years. Rules as for Event 15. Entry fee $3
EVENT 18. EQUINE EVENTS AUSTRALIA NOVICE STOCKMAN’S WHIPCRACK.
For entrants who have never won a stockman’s whipcrack event. To be run on horseback
over a horse-shoe shaped course with a maximum of 12 papers to be cut. Riders to ride at
any pace on inside of targets only. Targets are to be placed on a course at intervals at the
discretion of the steward & judges. This will be a timed event. Points awarded for cut papers
within the time limit. One horse one run. Entrants can compete on more than one horse.

EVENT 19. BASIL STEERS MEMORIAL STOCKMAN'S WHIPCRACK
SPONSORED BY KENT SADDLERY (minimum 6 foot plait whip)

The Page Transport Tasmanian Mountain Cattlemen's Association Championship and The
Mountain Huts Preservation Society Junior Championship have three phases with A&B
running concurrently.
PHASE A. - Handy Stock Horse
Competitor to carry a simulated calf, cross a bridge, hobble horse, open gate & stand cracking
a whip. Time limit of four (4) minutes. Guide lines available on entry.
PHASE B. – Cattle Handling
Involves working 2 cattle around the prescribed course and yarding them to finish. Running
martingales permitted.
PHASE C. - Stock Horse Race
Approximately 2 kilometres in length. Course over undulating terrain with logs and water to
be jumped. Competitors start unmounted. On starting they run, leading horse approximately
10 metres to full length oilskin coat, (must be lined), put it on, mount and race over course to
simulated calves. They dismount, pick up calf, mount and continue the race. Approx half way
around the calf is to be placed in the designated area. Prior to completing the race the rider
must dismount in the designated area, remove oilskin coat and complete the race leading
their horse. Each competitor is individually timed. A time limit for the race will apply, to be
advised on the day of the event.
Each phase of the competition will be scored and the best overall score will win the
Championship. In the event of points being equal, there will be a count back to Cattle
Handling, Handy Stock Horse and Stock Horse Race in that order.
• Any competitor may be eliminated from any phase at any time by presiding judge,
which in turn eliminates entrant from entire championship.
• Entry restricted to financial members of the T.M.C.A.
• Membership form can be completed and fee paid with entry.
• Stock saddle compulsory. Official entry form is on page 8 of this programme.

Commencing at 12.30 pm Saturday, directly following on from the Novice Stockman’s
Whipcrack Event & Basil Steers Memorial Stockman's Whip Cracking Event. Run in order of
programme. Entrants can compete in one class only.
Entry fee: Class 1: $5; Classes 2 – 4: $3; Class 5: $5.

Cattlemen’s Ironman Challenge
The Ironman challenge will be held in the main arena in the evening. Teams will consist of 3 entrants (all ages and genders compete as equal). The challenge will be comprised of various farm job related tasks
and run in a timed relay format.
Entries must be received at the TMCA caravan no later than 2pm on Saturday - $30 per team

Commencing approx 4pm near the TMCA van.
Entry: all classes $5
Class 1. Small Dogs: 32 cm or under
Class 2. Large Dogs: over 33 cm and over Open Event
1st, 2nd & 3rd prizes awarded for all classes
