Objectives

The Task Force Accelerators fosters community and business building for the EPI projects through strategic collaboration with relevant protagonists in that field.

The term “Accelerators” shall include all relevant multipliers in the developer and startup community which help to accelerate teams and their ideas by providing them with knowledge and/or financial support (e.g. incubators, fab labs, community hubs)

Main Findings

Providing Information We need to provide valuable and structured information for developers, startups and Accelerators. It is very important to navigate them through the complex environment of publicly funded projects.

Improving Image startups still hesitate to get involved in EU-funded projects. They fear the administrative overhead and also that the technologies are not mature enough.

Closing Knowledge Gap EPI projects need to get in contact with the developer community and startups scene much more. Getting feedback is essential to prepare the open calls and long term relationships (community engagement is needed).

1. Organising an EPI community event “IoT lab” to enable initial contact between EPI projects and developers/startups/accelerators.

▪ The main goals of such an event are: improving the image of EU-funded projects, getting feedback from the community, promoting open-calls and related approaches for cooperation

▪ It was also discussed to build the IoT lab as a living lab (longterm approach) ▪ IoT Lab should include EPI pitch sessions (projects present themselves)▪ The newly founded working group “IoT-lab” will organise the event format; Startupbootcamp offered to support; etventure (Be-

IoT) takes over the lead of this working group

2. Providing access to relevant information: ▪ etventure+Fraunhofer (Be-IoT) supported by startupbootcamp (AGILE) will work on the "IoT ecosystem browser" where the

needed information can be searched and filtered (e.g. open calls, projects, technologies) in a visually attractive way. That way, external stakeholders (community) can be addressed and involved (reducing complexity).

3. Add community events to common EPI event list Most of the events (on common EPI event list) are scientific or industrial events. We need to get involved in community events much more. ▪ All projects are asked to add community events to the common event list. In addition, each project-partner should get involved in

local community activities. Ask around who is already part of IoT meetup groups etc.

4. Engaging testimonials▪ In order to improve the image of EÚ funded projects we need to find testimonials from previous projects which had good

experience. These persons should be sent to community events (such as IoT lab in March) to tell their positive story. They could also be involved in different communication activities.

5. Identifying opportunities to cooperate with Accelerators regarding Open Call dissemination ▪ Accelerators also have open calls. ▪ Startups have their pitch decks already prepared when they apply.▪ Accelerators could take EPI open calls piggyback and that way increase the funding opportunities and their network (partner

network EPI)▪ etventure and Startupbootcamp will explore such cooperation models in more detail
