How my magazine appeals to my target

audience.

Images The images used throughout are conventional for my genre of magazine as they include appropriate expressions, mise-en-scene and shot types therefore appealing and attracting the target audience.

The mise-en-scene of all of the photos is conventional because of the basic but effective background, and also the modern clothing worn by the artists.

The facial expressions of the artists are conventional and appealing to the target audience due to being serious and confident in themselves.

The shot types used are appealing to the target audience as they make the artist easily identified as well as being able to see their expressions which are also conventional.

The use of only one image on my double page spread is appealing to the target audience as it has a simple effect that doubles up the image and makes draw in attention of the target audience. The shot type used is conventional as it is the same artist which is shown on the front cover just in a different way.

FontsOverall I have used a variety of different font styles that appeal greatly to my target audience as they are conventional for my genre of magazine. I found this out when I took out some research, for example the feedback that I received from the questionnaire that I sent out to my target audience.

For the masthead I used a bold sans serif style font as it is conventional for the genre and also helps the font stand out and make an effect of the front cover.

Some of the fonts that are used appear on all 3 pages, this is to make them consistent and also recognizable to not only the magazine name but the genre also.

Overall the fonts that I have used are conventional as they stand out to the reader and draw them in to buy and read the magazine.

The fonts used are a variety of different sizes as well as boldness, this is to draw you into the page.

The pull quote used ion the double page spread breaks up the block writing and also help to draw in the eye.

ColoursThe colours that I have used throughout my magazine and as my house style are consistent on the front cover, contents page and double page spread. The three main colours used are red, black and white. These colours are conventional for the indie genre of Vibes magazine that I have created and therefore makes them appealing to my target audience. I know this because when I did my research questionnaire this was the house style that was most popular among the members of my target audience.

The use of a simple white background ensures that all the components to that particular page stand out well including the black text. Also this fits in with my house style.

The colours that are used connote power and energy as well as a relaxed feel to the magazine as a whole. The use of the expressions of the artists in the images also contributes to the magazine connoting power.

The use of the house style makes the magazine recognizable and also helps the reader associate each page back to Vibes magazine.

ContentMy magazine that I have created is indie and popular music, therefore the target audience will be interested in popular artists as well as their music, therefore the information is clearly based on these aspects.

On my front cover I have used many different cover stories to attract the readers attention and leave them wanting to read about the whole story.

Along the bottom of my front cover I have included other popular artists to again draw in their fans to read the magazine.

My contents page has the typical elements of an indie magazine content page, for example a selection of different images appropriate for the genre and other eye catching elements. Therefore making the magazine appeal to the target audience.

The reference to social networking websites is appealing to my target audience as they are most likely to be involved with these social websites.

On my double page spread the use of the stand first, kicker, pull quote and clearly organised columns draws in the attention of my target audience due to them being appealing.

Mode of address The mode of address for Vibes magazine is quite relaxed, sophisticated and also quite formal.

The typography used demonstrates the magazine as being formal. For example the masthead has a bold font, and also fit s in with the consistent house style.

The use of the main image on the double page spread gives across quite a sophisticated vibe through the shot type and also the typography that is included.

The use of the images on the contents page is quite relaxed as they all fit in well with the indie genre whilst also being conventional for the magazine.
