Tahoe Lake Times Tahoe City, California — Thursday, December 20, 2018 “Just Read it People” Ms. Kelsee Ms. Kelsee is a fun and nice Special Ed. teacher! She is good with students with exceptional needs. She works with Kim, Jean, JD, Joyce, and Hana. They all work with students with exceptional needs. She wants to tell students at Tahoe Lake school to know, “You need to be the change you want to see in the world.” She loves to help kids learn! By: Jolene Hartline and Sienna Hartman Ms. Covell We at the newspaper would like to introduce our new staff member Ms.Covell! Her favorite color is blue because it’s neutral, calm and relaxing. Another thing she likes are tigers. She likes tigers because she was born in the year of the tiger and because they are fierce and brave. Her favorite flowers are roses. She likes roses because they are elegant and bold. She likes to play the piano and she loves music. She likes instruments so she learned to play the piano. Her favorite sport is soccer. She likes soccer because she started when she first started walking. Another reason why she likes soccer is because she likes being aggressive ONLY in sports. Her favorite book is, Born a Crime, by Trevor Noah. She likes that book because it’s a good read and very interesting. She loves to eat sushi and she loves it because it’s very different in taste and it is very delicious. She loves work. She likes it because it’s easy to be with kids for her and she’s been with kids for a long time. By: Lucy Foucek Mrs. Perkins’ Groups On Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays Mrs. Perkins’ groups meet during lunch. At the beginning of the year she has the new kids group. In the new kids group Mrs. Perkins helps the kids to make friends and feel welcomed. After a couple of weeks they start boys and girls group. They go around the table and share their feelings about their day. On special days they can bring one friend on special occasions. They can squeeze and fidget with little toys. When they meet they ring bells and breath mindfully and grow their brains. They have a little sandbox to calm down and get away from the noise from the cafeteria. Thanks Mrs. Perkins for organizing these groups. If you’re interested in joining a lunch group please see Mrs. Perkins. Hailey+Grace: “Mrs. Foucek what do you think good lunch behavior looks like?” Mrs. Foucek: “I think good lunch behavior is sitting at your table, enjoying your meal, chatting quietly with your friends, and waiting to be excused. Hailey+Grace: Mrs. Kelly what do you think good lunch behavior looks like? Mrs. Kelly: “Always using please and thank you’s, and no pushing in line.” Hailey+Grace: Mrs. Claudine what do you think good lunch behavior is? Mrs. Claudine: “Picking up your garbage, listening to the adults, and being respectful to Mrs. Kelly and Mrs. Kitty. By: Hailey Gordon and Grace Walton Meet the Staff Mrs. Ewing Mrs. Ewing, our school nurse, loves weaving with her own hand spun wool! Have you ever hand spun wool? In her free time she goes and works out every day. And when she is there she also sees Mrs. Mitchell the North Tahoe High School principal! Mrs. Ewing also loves the flower lavender, in fact it is her favorite flower! Her favorite color is blue. Another one of her hobbies is hiking. You might be able to find her favorite animal while you’re hiking. Her favorite animal is a marmot. Her favorite weather is a blustery fall, but sunny day! She wants everyone to know the famous saying by Roald Dahl, “If you are going to get anywhere in life you have to read a lot of books.” Her job is to read with students and help them find books. On Friday Dec. 21, there is a slight chance of rain and a slight chance of snow. The high is 41 degrees and low 22 degrees. On Saturday Dec. 22, it will be pretty snowy. The high is 42 degrees and the low is 27 degrees. On Sunday Dec. 23, there's a chance of rain and snow but mostly cloudy. The high is 43 degrees the low is 30 degrees. On Monday Dec. 24 there’s a chance of rain and snow, but most likely it will be cloudy. The high is 43 degrees and breezy and the low is 26 degrees. On Tuesday Dec. 25, which is Christmas Day there is a chance of snow showers but mostly likely it will be cloudy. The high is 33 degrees and the low is 19 degrees. Pony ExpressDid you know ponies used to deliver mail? When you are in 4th grade you will learn about the Pony Express. The Pony Express used to carry mail from Missouri to California.

Assemblies and Field TripsOn September 26th third grade went to the Ehrman Mansion. The Ehrman Mansion is an old historic building on the west shore of the lake. On October 10, third grade went to the Gatekeeper’s Museum. October 16th first grade went to the Fleishman Planetarium. On Thursday, October, 5th the second grade went to Eagle Falls to study land and water forms. In November we had one field trip which was the 2nd grade walking to Tahoe City on the 9th. We also had many assemblies and events which were the walk-a-thon prizes on the 2nd and the 4th grade Native American Feast and Festival on the 6th. In December we had some assemblies and here they are: Arts For The Schools brought the Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company on the 5th, Mrs. Scoville’s class hosted a Farm Cart, and there was caroling at the resort at Squaw Creek on the 13th. We only had one field trip in December for the 4th grade and that was to the Tahoe Environmental Research Center (TERC). They learned about the different types of earthquakes and how the lake was formed. By: Addie Rusek
