1.TAFSEER SURAH SAFFAAT

THE ANGELS (Those Ranged in Ranks)

BY SHEIKH ABDULLAH AL FAISAL

Compiled by Abu Hafiza

June 15th 2013 Saturday (Morning Dars)

- This surah was revealed in holy Makkah.

- Saffaat means those who are lined up in ranks.

- Saffaat is the plural of saff (Saff is rank)

- The angels are the ones who are lined up in saffaat.

- One of the characterist ics of this ummah is that their rows when they are

straightened to pray are like that of the angels.

- Allah swears by the angels that are lined up in rows.

3

Page 4: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

- Allah likes when you are organised.

- This is why Allah swears by angels that are lined up in straight l ines.

Veri ly, Allah loves those who fight in His Cause in rows (ranks) as if they were a solid

structure.

(As-Saff 61:4)

- The reason why Allah said He likes when you fight in straight rows is because Allah

doesn't l ike chaos.

- You need to have an ameer to avoid chaos.

- When you obey the ameer, you obey the Prophet and when you obey the Prophet

you obey Allah.

AYAH 1

By those (angels) ranged in ranks (or rows).

(As-Saffat 37:1)

AYAH 2

By those (angels) who drive the clouds in a good way.

(As-Saffat 37:2)

- Allah swears by a second batch of angels, azzaajaraat, the angels that drive the

clouds where Allah commands them too.

- They cannot drive the clouds without the permission and command of Allah.

'Aisha reported that Allah's Messenger (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) said: "The Angels were born out of l ight

and the Jinns were born out of the spark of f ire and Adam was born as he has been

defined (in the Qur'an) for you (i.e. he is fashioned out of clay)."

[Sahih Muslim, Book 42, Hadith #7134]

- Ath-thaqalain (man and jinn) have free wil l.

4

Page 5: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

Veri ly We created man of potter's clay of black mud altered, [Al hijr i 15:26] Pickthall

- Adam was made from hama (black mud) altered.

- When zamakhshair said Iblis was an angel he made a mistake.

- He was a mutazil ite.

- Iblis was a jinn not an angel.

- Surah 66:6 refutes the ideology of zamakhshari.

O you who believe! Ward off from yourselves and your families a Fire (Hell) whose

fuel is men and stones, over which are (appointed) angels stern (and) severe, who

disobey not, (from executing) the Commands they receive from Allah, but do that

which they are commanded.

(At-Tahrim 66:6)

- Allah told you in this ayah that Iblis was a jinn, not an angel.

And (remember) when We said to the angels; "Prostrate to Adam." So they prostrated

except Iblis (Satan). He was one of the jinns; he disobeyed the Command of his Lord.

Will you then take him (Iblis) and his offspring as protectors and helpers rather than

Me while they are enemies to you? What an evil is the exchange for the Zalimun

(polytheists, and wrong-doers, etc).

(Al-Kahf 18:50)

- Because Allah knows when you read the ayah you are going to entertain the idea

that Iblis was an angel, Allah told you that he was a jinn.

- Had he been an angel, he would have bowed down to Adam when he was

commanded to do so.

THE 25 MOST FAMOUS ANGELS OF ALLAH

1) JIBREEL

- The Christ ians call him Gabriel.

- The job of Jibreel is to reveal the books to the messengers.

5

Page 6: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

- Jibreel revealed the scrolls to Abraham and the psalms to David.

- He revealed the Torah to Moses, the injeel to Jesus and the Quran to Muhammad.

- The other job of Jibreel is to punish the wayward with natural disasters.

Jibreel is the Holy Spirit.

- The Christ ians talk a lot about the holy spirit.

- The only Holy Spirit that exists is Jibreel and there is no other holy spir it.

- Allah mentioned the Holy Spirit in surah 97:4.

Therein descend the angels and the Ruh [Jibrael (Gabriel)] by Allah's Permission with

all Decrees,

(Al-Qadr 97:4)

1) The Ruh is the Holy Spirit .

2) Mikail

- The Christ ians call him Michael.

- If you are a Christian and you take your shahada and your name is Michael you

don't have to change your name.

- His job is to provide oxygen and rain.

- The Jews like Mikail but they hated Jibreel.

- They hated Jibreel because he exposed their weaknesses in the Quran.

3) Israfeel

- The Christians call him Raphael.

- His job is to blow into the trumpet on the day of judgement.

- There is a difference of opinion how many times he wil l blow into the trumpet.

- Ibn Taymiyyah said he wil l blow into the trumpet 3 t imes.

6

Page 7: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

- This is the correct opinion.

- The first t ime he blows into the trumpet, it is called raajifah.

- The purpose of this blowing is to cause horror and terror.

- The first person to hear the blowing is a farmer preparing water for his animals.

- The second blowing is called raadifah.

- The purpose of the second blowing is to cause death.

- When raadifah takes place everyone wil l die except Allah.

- The final blowing into the trumpet is called zajarah.

Whatsoever is on it (the earth) will perish. And the Face of your Lord full of Majesty

and Honour wil l abide forever.

(Ar-Rahman 55:26-27)

- The final blowing into the trumpet is called zajarah.

- When the zajarah takes place, people will be woken up from death.

This is the purpose of zajarah.

4) MALAK AL MAUT

- This is the angel of death.

- Allah has made him invisible because people used to abuse him before because

they feared death.

5) THE HAFADHA (THE GUARDIAN ANGEL)

- He will guard your property if you recite ayat al kursi before you sleep

6) KIRAMAN KATIBIN (THE RECORDING ANGELS)

- The one on the right writes down the good deeds.

- The one on your left writes down your bad deeds.

7

Page 8: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

- They will play back your deeds to you.

- The way a man was caught on camera shoplift ing.

- These angels are recording your deeds supernatural ly.

- They will be played back to you on Judgement Day.

- Therefore you wil l be guilty as charged.

- You wil l see every atoms weight of good and bad deeds because the angels will play

it back to you.

So whosoever does good equal to the weight of an atom (or a small ant), shall see it.

(Az-Zalzalah 99:7)

And whosoever does evil equal to the weight of an atom (or a small ant), shall see it.

(Az-Zalzalah 99:8)

7) MUAAQABAAT (THE ANGELS THAT ATTENTD THE GATHERINGS)

- They attend the gatherings of Jumuah and the gatherings of knowledge.

- They record the names of those who come to jumuah.

“Any person who takes a bath on Friday like the bath of Janaaba and then goes for

the Salaat (prayer) (in the first hour i.e. early), it is as if he had sacrif iced a camel (in

Allaah’s Cause); and whoever goes in the second hour, it is as if he had sacrif iced a

cow; and whoever goes in the third hour, then it is as if he had sacrif iced a horned

ram; and if one goes in the fourth hour, then it is as if he had sacrif iced a hen; and

whoever goes in the fifth hour, then it is as if he had offered an egg. When the Imaam

comes out [ i.e. starts delivering the Khutba (rel igious talk), the angels present

themselves to listen to the Khutba.”

[Sahih Al-Bukhaari]

Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah's Apostle said, "Angels come to you in succession by

night and day and all of them get together at the time of the Fajr and `Asr prayers.

Those who have passed the night with you (or stayed with you) ascend (to the

Heaven) and Allah asks them, though He knows everything about you, well, "In what

8

Page 9: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

state did you leave my slaves?" The angels reply: "When we left them they were

praying and when we reached them, they were praying."

(Sahih Al Bukhari)

- If you Sallal lahu alayhi wa Sallam (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) after hearing the name, Muhammad (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص), this is conveyed to him by the angels.

- These angels attend your gatherings and report to Allah what you were doing.

- They will report to Allah that you were listening to Quran and Sunnah.

- They find the gatherings of those who are doing good deeds and report it back to

Allah.

8) JUNDULLAH

- Jundullah means the soldiers of Allah.

- Their job is to f ight along side the mujahideen on the battlefield.

- Allah sent 1000 of these angels to f ight with the Prophet at the battle of Badr.

(Remember) when you sought help of your Lord and He answered you (saying): "I wil l

help you with a thousand of the angels each behind the other (following one another)

in succession."

(Al-Anfal 8:9)

- The Prophet (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) said that the angels who fought at Badr were the best of Allah's

angels.

9) AN-NAAZI'AAT

- Allah spoke about these angels in surah 79:1

By those (angels) who pull out (the souls of the disbelievers and the wicked) with

great violence;

(An-Nazi'at 79:1)

9

Page 10: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

- An-naaziaat are the angels that pull out the souls of the wicked viciously.

- Malak al maut passes the souls of the wicked to these angels.

- These souls have a bad smell coming from them.

10) AN-NAASHITAAT

- An-naaziaat are the angels that pull out the souls of the wicked viciously.

By those (angels) who gently take out (the souls of the believers);

(An-Nazi'at 79:2)

- These are the angels that take out the souls of the believers with ease and

tranquil l i ty.

- When it is the soul of a believer, it comes out with ease and gentleness like the

water pouring out from the water skin.

- When the soul of the kaafir is pulled out it is l ike the cat tearing up a cushion.

- The souls of the believers have a pleasant smell.

- The naashitaat wrap the souls up in a sweet cloth.

- These angels have the most handsome faces.

11) AL MUQASSIMAAT

- These are the angels who distr ibute Allah's barakah amongst his righteous servants.

- Allah spoke about these angels in Surah 51:4

And those (angels) who distr ibute (provisions, rain, and other blessings) by (Allah's)

Command;

(Adh-Dhariyat 51:4)

- Allah even commands the angels to distribute his barakah amongst the kuffar.

- At t imes the kuffar have better rainfall than the Muslims.

10

Page 11: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

- There is better rainfall in Europe than in Saudi Arabia.

- Allah withholds the rain when we don't pay zakah.

12) AZ-ZAAJIRAAT

- Their job is to control the clouds.

- Allah spoke about them in surah 37:2.

By those (angels) who drive the clouds in a good way.

(As-Saffat 37:2)

- The purpose of these clouds is to bring the rain.

They control these clouds by the permission of Allah.

13) HAMALAAT AL ARSH

- They are the carriers of the Throne and they are 8 in number.

- The goofy sufis say Allah's Throne means glory.

- Surah 69:17 is used to refute the goofy sufis who say this.

And the angels wil l be on its sides, and eight angels will, that Day, bear the Throne of

your Lord above them.

(Al-Haqqah 69:17)

- Allah says that 8 angels wil l carry His throne.

14) AL-MUSABBIHOON

- These are the angels who constantly praise and glorify Allah.

- They don't do anything else.

Allah spoke about them in surah 40:7.

Those (angels) who bear the Throne (of Allah) and those around it glorify the praises

11

Page 12: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

of their Lord, and believe in Him, and ask forgiveness for those who believe (in the

Oneness of Allah) (saying) : "Our Lord! You comprehend all things in mercy and

knowledge, so forgive those who repent and follow Your Way, and save them from the

torment of the blazing Fire!

(Ghafir 40:7)

15) AL MUSTAGHFIROON

- Their job is to constantly beg Allah to forgive the sinners who are Muslims.

- Their job is to intercede on behalf of the Muslim sinners.

- Allah spoke about them in surah 40:7

Those (angels) who bear the Throne (of Allah) and those around it glorify the praises

of their Lord, and believe in Him, and ask forgiveness for those who believe (in the

Oneness of Allah) (saying) : "Our Lord! You comprehend all things in mercy and

knowledge, so forgive those who repent and follow Your Way, and save them from the

torment of the blazing Fire!

(Ghafir 40:7)

- When Prophet Yunus was in the belly of the whale recit ing a dua, these angels

interceded for Yunus.

Narrated Qais bin Kathir: ' Indeed, I heard the Messenger of Allah (SAW) saying

"Whoever takes a path upon which he seeks knowledge, then Allah makes a path to

Paradise easy for him. And indeed the angels lower their wings in approval to the one

seeking knowledge. Indeed forgiveness is sought for the knowledgeable one by

whomever is in the heavens and whomever is in the earth, even the fish in the waters.

And superiority of the scholar over the worshiper is l ike the superiority of the moon

over the rest of the celest ial bodies. Indeed the scholars are the heirs of the

Prophets, and the Prophets do not leave behind Dinar or Dirham. The only legacy of

the scholars is knowledge, so whoever takes from it, then he has indeed taken the

most able share.

[At-Tirmidhi]

16) NAARIKH AR-ROOH

12

Page 13: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

- Whenever a man impregnates his wife, on the third 40 days, Allah sends the angel

to blow in the foetus the ruh (the soul).

- Allah commands the angel to write four things.

- The first thing is his provision, whether he wil l be rich or poor.

- The second thing is his l ifespan, whether he lives for 50, 60, 70 or 80 years.

- The third thing is his actions, whether he will be a practicing Muslim or otherwise.

- The fourth thing is whether he will be happy or unhappy.

- This is called his disposit ion.

17) MALAK AL JIBAAL

- Malak al j ibaal means the angel of the mountains.

Narrated `Aisha: That she asked the Prophet , 'Have you encountered a day harder

than the day of the battle) of Uhud?" The Prophet replied, "Your tribes have troubled

me a lot, and the worse trouble was the trouble on the day of 'Aqaba when I

presented myself to Ibn `Abd-Yalail bin `Abd-Kulal and he did not respond to my

demand. So I departed, overwhelmed with excessive sorrow, and proceeded on, and

could not relax ti l l I found myself at Qarnath-Tha-alib where I l if ted my head towards

the sky to see a cloud shading me unexpectedly. I looked up and saw Gabriel in it.

He called me saying, 'Allah has heard your people's saying to you, and what they

have replied back to you, Allah has sent the Angel of the Mountains to you so that

you may order him to do whatever you wish to these people.' The Angel of the

Mountains called and greeted me, and then said, "O Muhammad! Order what you

wish. If you like, I wil l let Al-Akh-Shabain (i.e. two mountains) fall on them." The

Prophet said, "No but I hope that Allah wil l let them beget children who wil l worship

Allah Alone, and will worship None besides Him."

[Sahih Bukhari]

18) MUNKAR AND NAKIR

- Their job is to interrogate you in the grave.

13

Page 14: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

- They will ask who your Lord is, who your prophet is and what your religion is.

- He would then recite surah 14:27.

Allah will keep firm those who believe, with the word that stands firm in this world (i.e.

they will keep on worshipping Allah Alone and none else), and in the Hereafter. And

Allah will cause to go astray those who are Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers,

etc.), and Allah does what He wil ls.

(Ibrahim 14:27)

- Whenever the Prophet buried someone he would beg Allah to give them firmness

because munkar and nakir are interrogating them.

19) Ridwaan

- Ridwaan is the keeper of Paradise.

- He was commanded not to open the gate of Paradise to anyone before Muhammad.

On the authority of Anas Ibn Malik (RA) the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: “I wil l

come to the gate of Paradise on the Day of Resurrect ion and ask for it to be opened.

The gatekeeper wil l ask, ‘Who are you?’ I wil l say: ‘Muhammad.’ He wil l say, ‘I was

commanded not to open it for anyone before you.’”

[Sahih Muslim (1/188) No. 197]

20) MAALIK

- Malik is the keeper of hell.

- He has never smiled since he was created and he will never smile.

Allah spoke about him in surah 43:77.

And they will cry: "O Malik (Keeper of Hell)! Let your Lord make an end of us." He will

say: "Verily you shall abide forever."

(Az-Zukhruf 43:77)

- Malik is the ameer of the hellf ire; he is the keeper.

14

Page 15: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

21) ZABAANIA

- These are the angels whose job is to dump the wayward in the hellf ire.

Allah spoke about them in surah 74:31.

And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their

number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the

Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Qur'an is the truth

as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and

the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Qur'an is the

truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers,

and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may

say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example ?" Thus Allah leads astray whom

He wil ls and guides whom He wil ls. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He.

And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind.

(Al-Muddaththir 74:31)

- The zabaania are 19 in number.

- The kaafirs said they are going to gang up against these angels since there are only

19 of them.

- Allah said that He made their number as a f itnah for the kaafirs.

- The zabaania are mentioned as being 19 in number in previous books too.

22) HAAROOT AND MAAROOT.

- You can't split these two angels up.

- These two angels came down in Babylon

- The knowledge could be used for good or bad.

- The angels warned the people not to use it for bad.

- You can't blame the money; you have to blame the person using it.

- They used the knowledge to break up man from wife.

15

Page 16: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

They followed what the Shayatin (devils) gave out (falsely of the magic) in the lifet ime

of Sulaiman (Solomon). Sulaiman did not disbelieve, but the Shayatin (devils)

disbelieved, teaching men magic and such things that came down at Babylon to the

two angels, Harut and Marut, but neither of these two (angels) taught anyone (such

things) t i l l they had said, "We are only for trial, so disbelieve not (by learning this

magic from us)." And from these (angels) people learn that by which they cause

separation between man and his wife, but they could not thus harm anyone except by

Allah's Leave. And they learn that which harms them and profits them not. And indeed

they knew that the buyers of it (magic) would have no share in the Hereafter. And how

bad indeed was that for which they sold their ownselves, if they but knew.

(Al-Baqarah 2:102)

- If you have a pretty wife, people are going to envy you and split you up.

- They used the knowledge to work black magic and break up man from wife.

- The scholars use the above ayah to say that if you dabble in black magic you

become a kaafir.

23) ZAA'IRAAT AL BAIT

- They are 70000 in number

- Everyday they visit the kaaba which is on top of our kaaba.

- The kaaba in the heavens

Allah spoke about them in surah 52:1-4.

By the Mount; And by the Book Inscribed. In parchment unrolled. And by the Bait-ul-

Ma'mur (the house over the heavens parable to the Ka'bah at Makkah, continuously

visited by the angels);

(At-Tur 52:1-4)

- The foundation stone of our kaaba in Makkah was laid by the angels.

- They have another kaaba in the heavens which is called al bait al ma'moor.

The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said in the hadith of the Miraj

16

Page 17: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

(Night Journey) after his visit to the seventh heaven: “Then I was taken up to the

Frequented House (Bait-ul Mamur) and every day 70,000 angels visit it , never

returning to it again, and another (group) coming after them.”

[Sahih Bukhari, An-Nasai]

24) AL MUDABBIRAAT

- Their job is to arrange Allah's command and creation.

Allah spoke about them in surah 79:5.

And by those angels who arrange to do the Commands of their Lord, (so verily, you

disbelievers will be called to account).

(An-Nazi'at 79:5)

25) AS-SAABIHAAT

- The saabihaat are angels that roam about. They roam about in the heavens.

Allah spoke about them in surah 79:3.

And by those that swim along (i.e. angels or planets in their orbits, etc.).

(An-Nazi'at 79:3)

End of the Dars 1

2. TAFSEER SURAH SAFFAAT

(THE SOOTHSAYERS ARE UNBELIEVERS)

AYAH 4:

Veri ly your I lah (God) is indeed One (i.e. Allah);

17

Page 18: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

(As-Saffat 37:4)

- The Arabic word Ilaah is translated as God.

- Allah is One, meaning He has no partners or associates.

- This ayah is similar to surah 112:3.

"He begets not, nor was He begotten;

(Al-Ikhlas 112:3)

- This is the creed of Islam, i.e. that there is only One God.

- The creed of the Christians is that there is god the father, god the son and god the

Holy

Spirit and they are all co-equals.

- Islam is unique in the sense that you worship the Creator and not the creation.

- You are unique because you are a monotheist.

- There are three types of people: the monotheist, the polytheist and the atheist.

- Some people say there is a fourth category: the agnostic.

- The monotheist worships one God.

- The polytheist worships more than one god.

- The atheist denies the existence of God.

- The agnostic is not sure about the existence of a god.

- He is in doubt about the existence of his Lord.

- The atheist claims he is sure there is no God.

- A person in l ife falls into one of these four categories.

18

Page 19: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

- A Muslim is a monotheist and a Christian is a polytheist.

- A Christian is a polytheist because he worships god the father, god the son and god

the Holy Spirit.

- A Christian is a polytheist but Allah didn't call the Christians pagans in the Quran.

- This is because: their religion had a heavenly beginning; they had a prophet who

was Jesus; they had a book which is the Injeel.

- The other reason why Allah didn't call them pagans is because you are allowed to

eat their dhabh (slaughtering) and you are allowed to marry their women.

- However in reality the Christ ians are pagans.

- Some Jews came to f ight alongside the Prophet at the Battle of Uhud but the

Prophet didn't accept their help because they were pagans.

It has been narrated on the authority of Aisha, wife of the Holy Prophet (SAW), who

said: The Messenger of Allah (SAW) set out for Badr. When he reached Harrat-ul-

Wabara (a place four miles from Medina), a man met him who was known for his

valour and courage. The Companions of the Messenger of Allah (SAW) were pleased

to see him. He said: I have come so that I may follow you and get a share from the

booty. The Messenger of Allah (SAW) said to him: Do you believe in Allah and His

Messenger? He said: No. The Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: Go back; I wil l not

seek help from a Mushrik (polytheist). He went on until we reached Shajara, where

the man met him again. He asked him the same question again and the man gave him

the same answer. He said: Go back. I wil l not seek help from a Mushrik. The man

returned and overtook him at Baida'. He asked him as he had asked previously: Do

you believe in Allah and His Messenger? The man said: Yes. The Messenger of Allah

(SAW) said to him: Then come along with us.

[Sahih Muslim (3/1449) No. 1817]

- The Prophet called these Jews mushriks.

Al-Zayla`y reported another Hadith which was recorded by Ishaq Ibn Rahawayh in his

Musnad: It is reported by Al-Fadl ibn Musa from Muhammad ibn `Amr ibn `Alqamah

from Sa`id ibn Al-Mundhir on the authority of Abu Humayd Al-Sa`idy who said, When

the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) went out on the day of Uhud and passed

19

Page 20: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

Thaniyyat-ul-Wada`, he looked behind him and there appeared a squadron. He (peace

be upon him) inquired, "Who are these?" It was said, "This is `Abdullah ibn Ubay ibn

Salul and his Jewish fellows; they are the all ies of `Abdullah ibn Salam. The Prophet

(peace be upon him) asked, "Have they embraced Islam?" They said, "No, they sti l l

hold to their religion." The Prophet replied, "Tell them to go back. Veri ly, we do not

seek the help of the Mushriks against other Mushriks."

- The reason why the Prophet pronounced the Jews as pagans is because they allow

their rabbis to concoct a new rel igion for them.

The evidence for this is surah 9:31.

They (Jews and Christ ians) took their rabbis and their monks to be their lords besides

Allah (by obeying them in things which they made lawful or unlawful according to their

own desires without being ordered by Allah), and (they also took as their Lord)

Messiah, son of Maryam (Mary), while they (Jews and Christ ians) were commanded

[in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)) to worship none but One Ilah (God -

Allah) La ilaha il la Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He)[]. Praise and

glory be to Him, (far above is He) from having the partners they associate (with Him)."

(At-Tawbah 9:31)

- Paganism is not just to bow to an idol; paganism is also to follow a man when he

makes up a new religion.

- You the follower of the rel igion, your shirk is the shirk of obedience.

- Your founder of the religion are legislat ing and legislation belongs only to Allah.

- Your shirk is the shirk of legislation.

This is why Allah asked a question in surah 42:21.

Or even do they have associates (with Allah) who have legislated for them as the

rel igion that which Allah has not given permission? And had it not been for the Word

of Verdict, indeed it would have been decreed between them, and surely the unjust

will have a painful torment.

[As-Shuraa 42:21] [Dr Ghail]

20

Page 21: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

- You have no mandate to make up or follow such a rel igion.

- When you follow a law, you are following a deen.

- In the Quran Allah said that the law you follow becomes your deen.

So he [Yusuf (Joseph)] began (the search) in their bags before the bag of his brother.

Then he brought it out of his brother's bag. Thus did We plan for Yusuf (Joseph). He

could not take his brother by the law of the king (as a slave), except that Allah willed

it. (So Allah made the brothers to bind themselves with their way of "punishment, i.e.

enslaving of a thief") We raise to degrees whom We please, but over all those

endowed with knowledge is the All-Knowing (Allah).

(Yusuf 12:76)

- Allah said the law of the king is the deen of the king.

- So don't say that tawheed hakimiyyah is a bid’ah.

- Democracy is a deen.

- Ayah 4 of Surah Saffaat is similar to surah 18:110

Say (O Muhammad SAW) : "I am only a man like you. It has been inspired to me that

your I lah (God) is One Ilah (God i.e. Allah). So whoever hopes for the Meeting with

his Lord, let him work righteousness and associate none as a partner in the worship

of his Lord."

(Al-Kahf 18:110)

- The Christ ians are worshipping Jesus as a god besides Allah. Who gave them the

authority to do so? Jesus didn't give them the authority to worship him.

And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is,

God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.

[Mathew 19:17]

-Jesus didn't accept people call ing him good.

21

Page 22: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

- So how can you call him God?

- The only reason why you hang on to false religions is because of the pride and

arrogance of jahil iyya.

- A man asked Jesus when Judgment Day is and Jesus didn't know the answer.

But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my

Father only.

[Matthew 24:36]

- You need to learn these bible verses by heart in order for you to debate effectively.

- The Prophet didn’t know when Judgment Day is either.

“And when is the Hour?” He said, “The one who is questioned does not know more

about it than the one who asks.” He asked, “Then what are its Signs?” He said, “That

a maid-servant will beget her mistress and that you see barefooted, naked-bodied,

helpless shepherds construct tall buildings.”

[Bukhari 47, Muslim 4, Tirmidhi 2619, Abu Dawud 4695, Nisai 5005, Ibn Majah 63,

Ahmed 184]

- Only Allah knows when Judgment Day is because only Allah is maliki yaumiddeen.

- It is your natural instinct to acknowledge that there is one God.

Abu Huraira (RA) reported that Allah’s Messenger said, “Every child is born on the

rel igion (of Islam). Then his parents make him a Jew, a Christ ian or a polytheist.”

Someone said, “O Messenger of Allah, (what about) those who die before (their

parents convert them)?” He said, “Allah knows best what they would have done (if

they had survived).”

[Al-Bukhari (6599) and Muslim (2658)]

- You have never seen 3 husbands in a home or 3 presidents in a country.

- Likewise there is only one God governing this universe.

22

Page 23: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

- The heavens and earth would have been destroyed if there was more than one god

governing the universe.

Had there been therein (in the heavens and the earth) gods besides Allah, then veri ly

both would have been ruined. Glorif ied be Allah, the Lord of the Throne, (High is He)

above what they attribute to Him!

(Al-Anbiya 21:22)

- If there was more than one god, each god would take away what he has created.

No son (or offspring or children) did Allah beget, nor is there any ilah (god) along with

Him; (if there had been many gods), behold, each god would have taken away what

he had created, and some would have tried to overcome others! Glorif ied be Allah

above all that they attribute to Him!

(Al-Mu'minun 23:91)

- One god wil l take away the sun, the other god wil l take away the moon and another

god wil l take away the rivers; they will each take away what they created.

- It is haraam for Allah to create a being and give him the same powers as Himself.

AYAH 5:

Lord of the heavens and of the earth, and all that is between them, and Lord of every

point of the sun's risings. (None has the right to be worshipped but Allah).

(As-Saffat 37:5)

- The Sun rises in the east and sets in the west.

- When the Sun goes to the west it goes there to make sajda to Allah.

- This ayah tells you that Allah is in control of the Sun.

- The Shiites claim that the sun, the moon and the stars are subservient to their

imams.

23

Page 24: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

The spiritual status of the imam is the universal divine vice-gerency that is sometimes

mentioned by the imams (peace be upon them). It is a vice-gerency pertaining to the

whole of creation, by virtue of which all the atoms in the universe humble themselves

before the holder of authority (imams). It is one of the essential beliefs of our Shia

school that no one can attain the spir itual status of the imams, not even the cherubim

or the prophets. Imam Khomeini, Islam and Revolut ion: Writ ings and Declarations of

Imam Khomeini,

(Berkeley: Mizaan Press, 1981)

- They even claim that the atoms of the universe are subservient to their imams.

- This is shirk and it negates tawheed ar rububiyyah.

- The Sun seeks permission to go back to the east each time.

- One day Allah will refuse to give the Sun permission to go back to the east.

- Allah wil l say: “Rise from the west”.

- When this happens, if a kaafir takes his shahadah it wil l not be accepted from him.

- It will be too late.

“I entered the mosque while the sun was setting. The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) was

sitt ing. He said to me, “O Abu Dharr! Do you know where the sun is going?” I said,

‘Al lah and His Messenger knows’. He said, ‘It is going in order to take permission for

prostrat ion, and it is given permission. One day, it wil l be commanded, ‘Rise from

here’ and it wil l rise in the place where it sets." Then, the Messenger of Allah (pbuh)

read this verse: ‘And the Sun runs his course for a period determined for him.’(Ya

Seen, 36:38).”

(Tirmidhi, Fitan, 22)

- Ayah 5 of Surah Saffaat is similar to surah 70:40.

So I swear by the Lord of all [the three hundred and sixty (360)] points of sunrise and

sunset in the east and the west that surely We are Able

24

Page 25: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

(Al-Ma'arij 70:40)

- The sun is a natural phenomenon of Allah.

- You are not allowed to worship the sun; you have to worship the creator of the Sun.

- Some people exaggerate in their love of the Sun and they are called the sun

worshippers.

- The infidels accuse the Muslims of worshipping the moon because some Muslim

countries have the crescent and star on their f lags.

- We refute the infidels with surah 41:37.

And from among His Signs are the night and the day, and the sun and the moon.

Prostrate not to the sun nor to the moon, but prostrate to Allah Who created them, if

you (really) worship Him.

(Fussilat 41:37)

- Every year we start our fast in Ramadan with the sighting of the moon so the infidels

claim we worship the moon.

- This above ayah (41:37) is the ayah we use to refute them.

AYAH 6:

Veri ly! We have adorned the near heaven with the stars (for beauty).

(As-Saffat 37:6)

- The word zeena means beauty.

- The Prophet said in a famous hadith that Allah created the stars for three reasons:

to beautify the lower heavens, as a guide for people and to use as missi les against

the shaitaan.

"Allah created these stars for three purposes: to adorn the heavens, to stone the

devils and as signs by which to navigate. Whoever seeks anything else in them is

mistaken and does not benefit from them, and he is wasting his t ime and effort in

seeking something of which he has no knowledge."

25

Page 26: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

(Saheeh al-Bukhaari, Baab fi ' l -Nujoom, 2/240) .

- Ayah 6 of Surah Saffaat is similar to surah 67:5.

And indeed We have adorned the nearest heaven with lamps, and We have made

such lamps (as) missiles to drive away the Shaitaan (devils), and have prepared for

them the torment of the blazing Fire.

(Al-Mulk 67:5)

- Allah called the stars lamps because they brighten the sky.

- The shaiateen go up to the heavens to listen to the conversations between Allah and

His righteous servants.

- It is called eavesdropping.

- The shaitaan would return to the dunya and they would pass on the information to

the soothsayers and the fortune tellers.

- These soothsayers and fortune tellers would then mix one truth with 100 lies.

-The meteors are the shooting stars.

- If you seek benefit from the stars that are other than the 3 reasons you are speaking

without knowledge.

WHAT DID THE ULAMA HAVE TO SAY ABOUT GOING TO THE FO R TUNE

TELLERS?

The Reality of Fortune Telling

The one who has fallen into any of these matters must repent to Allaah, by regrett ing

what he has done and resolving not to do it again. As for what the fortune teller told

him coming true day after day, this doesn’t matter, and it does not affect the shar’ i

rul ing in such cases at all. This may be due to one of two things:

1 – That the fortune teller used general words and phrases that reflect things that

happen to all people, such as saying “you will go through some trials, then you will

26

Page 27: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

f ind relief” or “you wil l be blessed with some wealth” or “you wil l get married” and so

on, and the person thinks that the fortune teller is tell ing the truth because of that.

2 – The fortune teller told him of something true that would happen in the future, then

it happened as he said it would. This is something that the shaitaan snatched for him

from the heavens, then passed it on to the fortune teller, who added lies and false

things to it. If the incident that he spoke of happens, people believe everything he

said.

This is what the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) pointed out

when he explained this matter. Al-Bukhaari (6213) and Muslim (2228) narrated that

‘Aa’ishah (may Allaah be pleased with her) said: Some people asked the Messenger

of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) about soothsayers. The

Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said to them: “They

are nothing.” They said: O Messenger of Allaah, sometimes they tell us something

that turns out to be true. The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be

upon him) said: “That is a word from the jinn that the jinni snatches, and he cackles it

into the ear of his familiar as a hen cackles, but they mix more than a hundred lies

with it.”

al-Bukhaari (4701) narrated from Abu Hurayra (may Allaah be pleased with him) that

the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “When Allaah decrees

a matter in heaven, the angels beat their wings in submission to His words, making a

sound like a chain striking a rock. When the fear is banished from their hearts, they

say, What is it that your Lord has said? They say: The truth, and He is the Most High,

the Most Great.

Then the one who is l istening out hears that, and those who are listening out are

standing one above the other” – Sufyaan [one of the narrators] demonstrated with his

hand, holding it vertically with the fingers outspread. – “So he hears what is said and

passes it on to the one below him, and that one passes it to the one who is below

him, and so on until it reaches the lips of the soothsayer or fortune-teller.

Maybe the meteor will hit him before he can pass anything on, or maybe he wil l pass

it on before he is hit. He tells a hundred lies alongside it, but it will be said, Did he

not tell us that on such and such a day, such and such would happen? So they

believe him because of the one thing which was heard from heaven.” i.e., he is

27

Page 28: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

believed because of the one true word that was heard from heaven and passed on to

the fortune teller.

If we assume that the fortune teller told him something that did actually happen, such

as if he told him about where a lost item was to be found, or some such, and this is

what happened, if the questioner did not know it, then it is not “unseen” in absolute

terms, rather it was “unseen” to the one who did not see it or know it. The fortune

teller is able to see such things, either by himself or with the help of his helpers

among the devils of mankind and the jinn, as is well known.

To sum up: So long as your friend has repented to Allaah, then he should not pay any

attention to what the fortune-teller said or be afraid of what he said. Some of the

things he mentioned may happen, or they may not.

Usually they do not happen, because the ratio of truth – if the fortune teller receives

information from the jinn – is no more than 1%.

NO SALAH FOR 40 NIGHTS

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever goes to a

fortune-teller and asks him about something, his prayer wil l not be accepted for forty

nights.” Narrated by Muslim (2230)

And he (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever has intercourse

with a menstruating woman or with a woman in her back passage, or goes to a fortune

teller and believes what he says, has disbelieved in that which Allaah revealed to

Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him).” Narrated by Abu Dawood

(3904), al-Tirmidhi (3904) and Ibn Majaah (936); classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in

Saheeh Ibn Maajah.

The kufr mentioned in the hadeeth is to be understood in the sense of minor or lesser

kufr, according to many scholars, unless he believes that the witch or soothsayer has

knowledge of the unseen or he believes his claims to have knowledge of the unseen.

Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen said:

Those who go to fortunetel lers fall into three categories:

1 – The one who goes to a fortune-teller and asks him things without believing in what

he says. This is haraam, and the punishment of the one who does that is that his

prayers are not accepted for forty days, as it is narrated in Saheeh Muslim (2230),

that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever goes to

28

Page 29: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

a fortune-teller and asks him about something, his prayer wil l not be accepted for

forty days.”

2 – When a person goes to a fortune-teller and asks him about something and

believes what he says. This is disbelief in Allaah (kufr), because he is believing the

fortune-teller’s claim to have knowledge of the unseen, and believing a human’s being

claim to have knowledge of the unseen constitutes disbelief in the verse in which

Allaah says (interpretat ion of the meaning):

“Say: None in the heavens and the earth knows the Ghayb (Unseen) except

Allaah”[al-Naml 27:65].

Hence it says in the saheeh hadeeth: “Whoever goes to a fortune-teller and believes

what he says has disbelieved in that which was revealed to Muhammad (peace and

blessings of Allaah be upon him).”

3 – When he goes to a fortune-teller and asks him questions so that he can explain to

the people what he is really doing, which is deceiving people and leading them

astray? There is nothing wrong with this. The evidence for that is the fact that the

Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) went to Ibn Sayyaad. The

Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) though of something to himself.

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) asked him what he was

thinking of and he said, “Al-dukh” meaning al-dukhaan (smoke). End quote. Majmoo’

Fataawa wa Rasaa’i l al-Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen, 2/184

Based on this, whoever goes to a fortune-teller or soothsayer and believes what he

says and believes that he has knowledge of the unseen has committed major kufr

which puts him beyond the pale of Islam. But if he does not believe what he says then

he has not committed kufr.

Whatever the case, the door of repentance is open, as the Prophet (peace and

blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Allaah will accept the repentance of His slave

so long as the death ratt le has not reached his throat.” (3537) i.e., so long as the soul

has not reached the throat. Every sin from which a man repents, Allaah will accept his

repentance.

Allaah says (interpretat ion of the meaning):

29

Page 30: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

“Say: O ‘Ibaadi (My slaves) who have transgressed against themselves (by

committ ing evil deeds and sins)! Despair not of the Mercy of Allaah, verily, Allaah

forgives all sins. Truly, He is Oft Forgiving, Most Merciful”[al-Zumar 39:53]

Whatever sin a person falls into, if he repents from it, his repentance wil l be accepted

– even shirk.

- If you go to a fortune teller you have no salah for 40 days.

- If you go to a fortune teller and you don’t believe him it is minor kufr but if you

believe him it is major kufr.

- A man who goes to a soothsayer is only a kaafir if he believes the soothsayer.

- You have nullif ied your tawheed ar rububiyyah when you believe the soothsayer has

knowledge of the unseen.

- If your intention of going to a fortune teller is to disgrace and humiliate him, there is

nothing wrong with it because the Prophet did this.

- Do not despair if you have gone to a fortune teller; Allah even forgives major shirk if

you make taubah before you die.

AYAH 7:

And to guard against every rebellious devil.

(As-Saffat 37:7)

- The kaafirs are superstit ious; they tell people to wish for something when they see a

shooting star.

- They think that Allah wil l grant the wishes they make when they see a shooting star.

- Allah mentioned one of the three purposes of the stars in ayah 7 which is to use

against the shaitaan.

AYAH 8:

They cannot l isten to the higher group (angels) for they are pelted from every side.

30

Page 31: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

(As-Saffat 37:8)

- The higher group Allah is speaking about is the gathering of the angels.

AYAH 9:

Outcast, and theirs is a constant (or painful) torment.

(As-Saffat 37:9)

- A person becomes an outcast if he rebels against Allah's deen.

- Outcast in this ayah means cursed.

- The most famous outcast is the shaitaan.

- Those who follow him in his footsteps are also outcasts.

- People ask how you can call a wealthy kaafir cursed.

- Wealth is not evidence that a person is blessed because even the pharaoh and

Nimrod had wealth.

- The sign that a person is blessed is that they are following the right rel igion.

- Whenever Allah loves someone, Allah gives them the proper understanding of the

deen.

Narrated Muawiya: I heard the Prophet (SAW) saying, "If Allah wants to do good to a

person, He makes him comprehend the rel igion. I am just a distributor, but the grant

is from Allah. (And remember) that this nation (true Muslims) wil l keep on following

Allah's teachings strictly and they will not be harmed by any one going on a different

path ti l l Allah's order (Day of Judgment) is established."

[Al-Bukhari (71) and Muslim (1037)]

- The most precious thing in l ife is hidaya (guidance)

- You beg Allah for hidaya 17 times a day.

31

Page 32: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

Guide us to the Straight Way.

(Al-Fatihah 1:6)

- Allah said not to be sad when you see the kaafirs enjoying life.

- When you see the kaafirs driving around in their Ferrari cars and wearing expensive

clothing, don't be sad.

And whoever disbelieved, let not his disbelief grieve you (O Muhammad SAW),. to Us

is their return, and We shall inform them what they have done. Veri ly, Allah is the All

Knower of what is in the breasts (of men). We let them enjoy for a l it t le while, then in

the end We shall oblige them to (enter) a great torment.

(Luqman 31:23-24)

- The kaafirs are allowed to have fun in the dunya for a lit t le while and then they are

obliged to burn in the hellf ire.

- Allah told you to have fun in the surah 28:77.

But seek, with that (wealth) which Allah has bestowed on you, the home of the

Hereafter, and forget not your portion of legal enjoyment in this world, and do good as

Allah has been good to you, and seek not mischief in the land. Veri ly, Allah likes not

the Mufsidun (those who commit great crimes and sins, oppressors, tyrants, mischief-

makers, corrupts).

(Al-Qasas 28:77)

- If you want to have fun, get married.

- To be boring is not Islamic because Allah said to have fun but make sure it is halal.

The evidence for this is surah 37:9-10

AYAH 9

Outcast, and theirs is a constant (or painful) torment.

(As-Saffat 37:9)

32

Page 33: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

AYAH 10

Except such as snatch away something by stealing and they are pursued by a flaming

fire of piercing brightness.

(As-Saffat 37:10)

- A few conversations wil l slip through the net by Allah's will.

- The fortune tellers who have contact with the jinns mix this one truth that they are

told by the jinn and mix it with 100 lies.

- People believe everything these fortune tellers say because they say one truth.

- When the donkey brays it has seen a shaitaan.

- When a rooster crows it has seen an angel.

- If you hear a donkey bray you should seek refuge in Allah from the shaitaan.

- If you hear a rooster crow you should ask Allah for His bounty.

Narrated By Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, "When you hear the crowing of cocks,

ask for Allah's Blessings for (their crowing indicates that) they have seen an angel.

And when you hear the braying of donkeys, seek Refuge with Allah from Satan for

(their braying indicates) that they have seen a Satan."

[Sahih Bukhari, Vol 4, Book 54, Hadith #522]

- There is no hope for the soothsayers.

- Soothsaying causes people to become kuffaar.

- If you go to a fortune teller and you don’t believe him it is minor kufr but if you

believe him it is major kufr.

- In Africa, soothsayers advert ise themselves in newspapers.

- They disguise themselves as sheikhs.

33

Page 34: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

- Soothsayers are even advertised in newspapers in the UK.

34

Page 35: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

End of the Dars 2

3. TAFSEER SURAH SAFFAAT

(THE ELEVEN SHADES OF KUFR)

The last t ime we were here we stopped at ayah 11.

Then ask them (i.e. these polytheists, O Muhammad SAW): "Are they stronger as

creation, or those (others like the heavens and the earth and the mountains, etc.)

whom We have created?" Verily, We created them of sticky clay.

(As-Saffat 37:11)

- They are trying to ask how it is possible to be given life again after they have

disintegrated into dried bones.

- This is what they were asking the Prophet.

- They were trying to ask how this is possible.

- This is a ridiculous question because you are trying to put l imits on the powers of

Allah.

- Your question is ludicrous and ridiculous.

- On many occasions Allah said that the kaafirs did not give Him His due respect.

They (the Jews, Quraish pagans, idolaters, etc.) did not estimate Allah with an

estimation due to Him when they said: "Nothing did Allah send down to any human

being (by inspirat ion)." Say (O Muhammad SAW) : "Who then sent down the Book

35

Page 36: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

which Musa (Moses) brought, a l ight and a guidance to mankind which you (the Jews)

have made into (separate) paper sheets, disclosing (some of it) and concealing

(much). And you (believers in Allah and His Messenger Muhammad SAW), were

taught (through the Qur'an) that which neither you nor your fathers knew." Say: "Allah

(sent it down)." Then leave them to play in their vain discussions. (Tafsir Al-Qurtubi,

Vol.7, Page 37).

(Al-An'am 6:91)

- By you asking such a question, it proves that you are trying to put a limit on the

Powers of Allah.

- Allah told the Prophet to ask them a question.

- The question was-

- Allah said it is easier to create you than the mighty creations of Allah such as the

heavens, the earth and the mountains.

- It is easier to create man.

Veri ly, We created them of a sticky clay. The creation of the heavens and the earth is

indeed greater than the creation of mankind, yet most of mankind knows not.

(Ghafir 40:57)

- For you to ask how you can become a new creation after your disintegration, you

are seeking to put a limit on Allah's Powers.

- Allah created you from hama (black mud altered).

- Allah said the mud He used to create you is sticky.

Veri ly We created man of potter's clay of black mud altered,

[Al Hijr 15:26] [Pickthall]

- If we were created from black mud altered, why do we also have yellow, brown,

white and red people?

- The answer to the question is that when Allah told the angel to collect the mud, the

angel collected mud of different colors.

- People have different complexions.

36

Page 37: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

- These complexions have the same feelings and they have the same diseases of the

heart.

- It is not just the white man who insults Muhammad.

- A Somali woman tours the world and insults Muhammad.

- It doesn't matter what complexion people are of; we only have one race which is the

human race.

- We have different tribes but one race, the human race.

- The better of you in the sight of Allah is the believer who is most righteous.

- Allah didn't say in the ayah that he made you into different races; Allah said he

made you into nations and tribes.

- This is because there is only one race which is the human race.

- Everyone would like to say they are better than their neighbor because they think

they are of a superior race.

- However Allah told you that the better of you is the believer who is most righteous.

O mankind! We have created you from a male and a female, and made you into

nations and tribes, that you may know one another. Verily, the most honorable of you

with Allah is that (believer) who has At-Taqwa [i.e. one of the Muttaqun (pious - see

V.2:2). Verily, Allah is All-Knowing, All-Aware.

(Al-Hujurat 49:13)

- So don't follow the ideology of Hit ler who believed he was of a superior race.

- Hit ler and the shaitaan were of the same ideology.

AYAH 37:12

Nay, you (O Muhammad SAW) wondered (at their insolence) while they mock (at you

and at the Qur'an).

37

Page 38: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

(As-Saffat 37:12)

- Allah said they ridicule the Quran and they ridicule you.

- They mock the Quran and they mock you too.

- The word insolence means to be cheeky.

- To mock at the Quran and to mock Muhammad is major kufr which takes you out of

the fold of Islam.

- This makes you become an infidel.

- Allah told you this in surah 9:65-66.

If you ask them (about this), they declare: "We were only talking idly and joking." Say:

"Was it at Allah, and His Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelat ions,

etc.) and His Messenger (SAW) that you were mocking?"

(At-Tawbah 9:65)

Make no excuse; you have disbelieved after you had believed. If We pardon some of

you, We will punish others amongst you because they were Mujrimun (disbelievers,

polytheists, sinners, criminals, etc.).

(At-Tawbah 9:66)

- Into this ayah Allah is making takfeer on people who mock the Quran, the prophet or

even worse which is to mock Allah.

- If you are an author of a book and people mock the book, you would feel offended.

- Allah is the author of the Qur'an.

- The Qur'an is kalaamullah.

- So when the kuffar mock the Quran they are actually mocking Allah.

- We can't even point our feet towards the Quran or put another book on top of the

Quran.

- If you say the Quran contains discrepancies, you are saying that Allah contradicts

Himself.

38

Page 39: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

THE 11 SHADES OF KUFR

1) KUFR INKAAR

- This is to deny the haq

2) THE KURF OF DOUBT

- If you doubt that Islam is the truth you are a kaafir.

- If you doubt the Prophet Muhammad, the Quran, paradise or hellf ire you are a

kaafir.

- One of the seven conditions of shahada is yaqeen (certainty).

- You’re not allowed to doubt any aspects of Islam especial ly one of the pil lars of

Islam.

- You are not allowed to doubt an aspect of Islam especial ly one of the six pil lars of

Islam.

In their hearts is a disease (of doubt and hypocrisy) and Allah has increased their

disease. A painful torment is theirs because they used to tell l ies.

(Al-Baqarah 2:10)

3) KURF I'RAAD

- Kufr i 'raad means the kufr of turning away from the message.

- Allah spoke about those who practice i 'raad in surah 20:124-126.

"But whosoever turns away from My Reminder (i.e. neither believes in this Qur'an nor

acts on its orders, etc.) verily, for him is a life of hardship, and We shall raise him up

blind on the Day of Resurrect ion." He will say:"O my Lord! Why have you raised me

up blind, while I had sight (before)." (Allah) wil l say: "Like this, Our Ayat (proofs,

evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelat ions, etc.) came unto you, but you

disregarded them (i.e. you left them, did not think deeply in them, and you turned

away from them), and so this Day, you will be neglected (in the Hell- f ire, away from

Allah's Mercy)."

39

Page 40: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

(Ta-Ha 20:124-126)

4) Kufr ISTIKBAAR

- That is the kufr of pride and arrogance.

- To be proud and arrogant and refuse to surrender to the hujjah because of it

- Allah spoke about proud and arrogance in surah 2:34.

And (remember) when We said to the angels: "Prostrate yourselves before Adam.".

And they prostrated except Iblis (Satan), he refused and was proud and was one of

the disbelievers (disobedient to Allah).

(Al-Baqarah 2:34)

- Only Allah is allowed to be proud; you are not allowed to be proud.

- As long as you go to the loo you can't be proud.

5) KUFR ISTIHLAAL

- Istihlaal is to make what is haram halal.

- If a Muslim leader drinks alcohol, he is not a kaafir but if he allows factories to be

opened up in the country producing alcohol, he is a kaafir.

Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (d. 728H): “Whenever a person makes halal what is

haram by consensus or makes haram what is halal by consensus or replaces the

Shari’ah that is agreed upon by consensus, then he is a Kaffir by the agreement of

the scholars of Fiqh.” –

[“Al-Fataawa”, Vol. 3/267]

6) NIFAAQ

- Nifaaq is to say you believe in Islam but in your heart you don't believe.

- A person pretends to be a Muslim when he is sent to spy on Muslims.

40

Page 41: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

- It is easy to recognize a spy.

- He wasn't taught to make wudu properly.

- He puts his left hand over his right hand when he prays.

- Another reason why a person pretends to be a Muslim is because he wants to marry

a Muslim girl. Hindu men do this a lot.

- They pretend to be Muslims in order to marry pretty Muslim gir ls.

- This is the modus operandi of a Hindu.

- The third reason a person pretends to be a Muslim is because he wants to benefit

from the wealth of the Muslims.

- If he is l iving in a community where the Muslims have shops and businesses, he

pretends to be a Muslim because he wants to l ive off hand offs from the Muslims.

- You have to pay him to be a Muslim.

- In the time of the Prophet the same thing happened.

- Some people took shahada and they became poor. They came to Muhammad and

they asked him to feed them.

The bedouins say: "We believe." Say: "You believe not but you only say, 'We have

surrendered (in Islam), ' for Faith has not yet entered your hearts. But if you obey

Allah and His Messenger (SAW), He will not decrease anything in reward for your

deeds. Veri ly, Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful."

(Al-Hujurat 49:14)

- Imaan had not yet entered the hearts of these people.

- Any society in which you have poor kaafirs and rich Muslims, some kaafirs pretend

to believe because they want to be fed by the Muslims.

- They are using Islam to secure handouts from the Muslims.

7) KUFR ISTIHZAA

41

Page 42: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

- This is the kufr of mocking Allah, the Rasool or the deen.

- Allah spoke about this kufr in surah 9:65-66.

- Not only do the infidels mock the message, but they mock Muhammad as well.

- The whole purpose of mocking the message is for people not to follow it.

- In the world we have two hizbs: hizb Allah and hizb Shaitaan.

- The battle between truth and falsehood is a never ending battle.

- Allah spoke about them mocking the deen again in surah 37:12-15.

AYAH 12

Nay, you (O Muhammad SAW) wondered (at their insolence) while they mock (at you

and at the Qur'an).

(As-Saffat 37:12)

AYAH 13

And when they are reminded, they pay no attention.

(As-Saffat 37:13)

AYAH 14

And when they see an Ayah (a sign, a proof, or an evidence) from Allah, they mock at

42

Page 43: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

i t .

(As-Saffat 37:14)

AYAH 15

And they say: "This is nothing but evident magic!

(As-Saffat 37:15)

- Whenever you are the torch bearer of the truth, the kaafirs try to assassinate your

character so that people wil l turn away from you.

- The kaafirs try to f ind discrepancies in the message for people to reject the

message.

- This is what they did in the time of the Prophet.

- Because history repeats itself, expect to f ind many websites ridiculing the Prophet

and seeking to f ind contradict ions in the Holy Quran.

- The kaafirs are desperate because Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world

today and it is a threat to their satanic l ifestyle.

8) KUFR OF DISOBEDIENCE

Allah spoke about the kufr of disobedience in surah 18:50.

- This is an example of the kufr of disobedience.

- Disobeying Allah can be kufr.

- Another example of the kufr of disobedience:

43

Page 44: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

- This example was given by the Prophet himself.

- The Prophet recited surah 9:31.

- There is no obedience to the creation when you are disobeying Allah.

- The Prophet gave the tafseer of this ayah to Adee ibn Haatim.

- The Prophet asked don't they (the priest and rabbis) make halal haram and haraam

halaal.

- Adee ibn Hateem replied yes and the Prophet said that this is how they worshipped

their priests and rabbis.

9) KUFR OF LYING

- This is to l ie on Allah, His Rasool or the Quran.

- This is major kufr which takes you out the fold of Islam.

- If you lie about your age or how much money you have in your bank account, you

are not a kaafir.

- If you deliberately fabricate a hadith to use it to promote a false ideology, you

become a kaafir.

- This is the modus operandi of a goofy Sufi or a shady shiite.

- They deliberately fabricate hadiths to spread their dodgy ideology among

unsuspecting Muslims.

Narrated By Anas: The fact which stops me from narrating a great number of Hadiths

44

Page 45: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

to you is that the Prophet said: "Whoever tells a l ie against me intentionally, then

(surely) let him occupy his seat in Hell-f ire."

[Sahih Bukhari (1/3) Hadith #108]

- Wil l the man be in the hellf ire forever or will he be taken out?

- Abdullah al Hakami said if you quote a fabricated hadith unknowingly you are not a

kaafir.

- The person who deliberately fabricates a hadith to spread his ideology among

unsuspecting Muslims is a kaafir and he wil l be in the hellf ire forever.

- This person is guilty of lying on the Rasool.

- When he lied on the Rasool, he is guilty of lying on Allah.

And who does more wrong than the one who invents a lie against Allah, while he is

being invited to Islam? And Allah guides not the people who are Zalimun (polytheists,

wrong-doers and disbelievers) folk.

(As-Saff 61:7)

- This is the modus operandi of Shiites and Sufis.

- You can't read their books because they have fabricated hadiths in them.

- They like to l ie on Allah and His Rasool.

10) KUFR ISTIBDAAL

- This is to replace the sharia with manmade laws.

- The Arabic word istibdaal means to replace.

- So if someone replace the shariah with manmade laws, exchange the shariah he is a

kafir by the ijamaah of the scholars of f iqh

Ibn Taymiyyah (rh) said: “And it is known from the religion (of Islam) by necessity and

by the consensus of all Muslims that whoever legalizes to follow other than the

rel igion of Islam or a Shariah other than the Shariah of Muhammad (SAW), he is a

Kaafir. And his kufr is similar to that of the one who believes in some part of the book

45

Page 46: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

(Quran) and reject some of it.”

[Majmua al-Fataawa (28/524)]

Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (d. 728H): “Whenever a person makes halal what is

haraam by consensus or makes haraam what is halal by consensus or replaces the

Sharee’ah that is agreed upon by consensus, then he is a Kaffir by the agreement of

the scholars of Fiqh.” –

[“Al-Fataawa”, Vol. 3/267]

Ibn Kathir (rh) said: “So Whosoever abandons the wise Shariah which was revealed

upon Muhammad ibn Abdullah, the seal of the prophets, and goes to other abrogated

Shariah for judgment, he becomes a Kaafir. So how about the one who goes to al-

Yaasiq (man-made law) for judgment and gives it precedence (over the Shariah of

Muhammad (SAW). Whosoever does this has become a Kaafir by the Ijma of the

Muslims.”

[Al-Bidayah Wan-Nihayah, (Vol. 13, p119)]

Shaikh 'Abdul- 'Azeez Ibn 'Abdullah Ibn Baaz said: "There is no Eeman for the one

who believes the laws of the people and their opinions are superior to the Hukm of

Allah and His Messenger or that they are equal to it or that they resemble it or who

leaves it or replaces it with fabricated laws and institut ions invented by people, even

if he believes that the laws of Allah are more encompassing and more just."

[Wujoob Tah'keem Shari'ah Allah' (pg. 16-17)]

- When the Saudi Salafis try to debate you, use the fatwa of bin baaz to prove to them

that they are hypocrites.

- Use their own sheikh against them.

- They are like the Christ ians who eat pork even though the Bible says not to eat

pork.

11) KUFR OF DABBLING IN BLACK MAGIC

- Allah sent two angels to Babylon.

- They were teaching people knowledge that could be used for good or bad.

46

Page 47: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

- The evidence for this is surah 2:102.

And how

bad indeed was that for which they sold their own selves, if they but knew.

(Al-Baqarah 2:102)

- They were teaching people knowledge that could be used for good or bad.

- The angels were sent as a test and they warned the people not to become kuffar by

misappropriating the knowledge.

- Even though the angels warned them, they didn't take heed.

- They used the knowledge to break up man from wife.

- This ayah (2:102) is used by the four great Imaams to prove that dabbling in black

magic makes a person a kaafir.

- If you go to a soothsayer and didn't believe in him, you are a faasiq (sinner)

- If you believe in the soothsayer you become a kaafir.

- The angels were sent as a test and they warned the people not to become kuffar by

misappropriating the knowledge.

AYAH 13:

And when they are reminded, they pay no attention.

(As-Saffat 37:13)

47

Page 48: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

- The kufr which is mentioned in the above ayah is the kufr of i 'raad (the kufr of

turning away).

AYAH 14:

And when they see an Ayah (a sign, a proof, or an evidence) from Allah, they mock at

it.

(As-Saffat 37:14)

- The kufr which is mentioned in ayah 14 is the kufr of ridiculing the signs and deen of

Allah.

- This is called KUFR ISTIHZAA.

AYAH 15:

And they say: "This is nothing but evident magic!

(As-Saffat 37:15)

- When they say this is magic, they are lying.

- The kufr they are practicing is the kufr of lying.

- They are call ing the hujjah lies.

AYAH 16:

"When we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we (then) verily be

resurrected? (As-Saffat 37:16)

- They are trying to deny recreation after disintegrat ion.

- Because the kaafirs are evil personif ied they can't afford to believe in the Day of

Resurrect ion.

- It will give them mental depression to believe in the Day of Resurrection and the

hellf ire.

- They comfort themselves by giving themselves false hope by denying the day of

48

Page 49: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

resurrect ion.

- They say it is all a myth.

- The kuffar themselves admit they wil l be sure losers if there is a day called

judgment day.

They say: "Shall we indeed be returned to (our) former state of l ife? "Even after we

are crumbled bones?" They say: "It would in that case, be a return with loss!"

(An-Nazi'at 79:10-12)

- They even cheat on their wives with men.

- They molest their own daughter.

- They even dabble in black magic.

- They eat every haraam and drink every haraam.

- When they were in the dunya, they were not righteous.

- So they say that if there is a day called judgment day they will be sure losers.

- They were not righteous; they were human devils.

- It is in George Bush, Blair, and Ariel Sharon's interest to deny Judgment Day.

- They were human devils and they were evil personified.

- To believe in Judgment Day wil l cause them to live a life of mental depression.

- Because they are nothing but human devils who belong to the hellf ire to abide

therein forever

"And also our fathers of old?"

(As-Saffat 37:17)

- Why are you asking about your fathers of old?

- If you will be resurrected, why will your fathers be exempted of being resurrected?

49

Page 50: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

- This is yet another ridiculous question coming from the kuffaar.

- Why are you asking about your fathers of old?

- If you will be resurrected, why will your fathers be exempted of being resurrected?

- This is yet another ridiculous question coming from the kuffaar.

- The Brit ish media asked Tony Blair how many il legal immigrants there are in the UK.

- Tony Blair said he didn't know.

- This is a ridiculous question.

- No government in the world knows how many il legal immigrants there are in their

country.

- This is another example of kuffaar asking ridiculous questions.

- Wisdom begins with the fear of Allah.

Sufyan Ath-Thawri from Abdur Rahman Bin Abbas said Ayas Abu Yahya related to me

from Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (RA) he used to say in his sermon the best provision is

piety and the peak of wisdom is to fear Allah.

[Bayhaqi in Sha'ab al Imaan (1/470) and Sunan al-Kubra]

AYAH 18

Say (O Muhammad SAW) : "Yes, and you shall then be humiliated."

(As-Saffat 37:18)

- The Tafseer of this ayah is that you will be resurrected blind and crawling on your

face.

- The evidence for this is surah 25:34.

Those who will be gathered to Hell (prone) on their faces, such wil l be in an evil

state, and most astray from the (Straight) Path.

50

Page 51: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

(Al-Furqan 25:34)

- A man asked the Prophet how they will crawl on their face.

"But whosoever turns away from My Reminder (i.e. neither believes in this Qur'an nor

acts on its orders, etc.) verily, for him is a life of hardship, and We shall raise him up

blind on the Day of Resurrect ion."

(Ta-Ha 20:124)

- The Prophet (saw) said that Allah who has the power to make them walk on their

feet in the dunya has the power to make them crawl on their face in the akhira.

- This is the humiliat ion Allah is talking about.

End of the Dars 3

4.TAFSEER SURAH SAFFAAT

THE TRUMPET SHALL BE BLOWN INTO THREE TIMES

June 22 2013 SAT

AYAH 16

When we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we (then) veri ly be

resurrected?

(As-Saffat 37:16)

- This is a question they are asking.

- They find it strange that after they have disintegrated into dried bones and dust they

will be resurrected

51

Page 52: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

- They are trying to say that recreation after disintegration is farfetchedness and it

doesn't make sense.

-Their resurrection shall take place with total humil iation.

-They will be resurrected blind and they will be crawling on their face.

- The evidence for the infidels being resurrected blind is surah 20:124.

"But whosoever turns away from My Reminder (i.e. neither believes in this Qur'an nor

acts on its orders, etc.) verily, for him is a life of hardship, and We shall raise him up

blind on the Day of Resurrect ion."

(Ta-Ha 20:124)

- This is the ult imate humil iation you wil l suffer on the day of Judgment is surah

20:125

He wil l say: "O my Lord! Why have you raised me up blind, while I had sight (before)."

(Ta-Ha 20:125)

- The evidence for the infidels crawling on their face is surah 25:34.

Those who will be gathered to Hell (prone) on their faces, such wil l be in an evil

state, and most astray from the (Straight) Path.

(Al-Furqan 25:34)

Abu Hurayra reported that Allah’s Messenger (SAW) said, “On the Day of

Resurrect ion, mankind will be gathered in three categories - a category of those

walking on foot, another of riders and the third of those walking on their faces.”

Someone asked, “O Messenger of Allah, how would they walk on their faces?” He

said, ‘Surely, he who makes them walk on their feet is Able to make them walk on

their faces. Know that they wil l walk on their faces safeguarding from every ascent

and thorn.”

[Sunan Tirmidhi (5/305) No. 3142, Musnad Ahmad (2/363) No. 8740]

- This is what Allah means when Allah says that they wil l be resurrected in a

humil iated state.

52

Page 53: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

- The creation of the heavens and the earth is more diff icult than to create man.

- So how can you deny your recreation when the sun, the moon, the seas, etc. is

harder to create than man.

It will be a single Zajrah [shout (i.e. the second blowing of the Trumpet)], and behold,

they will be staring!

(As-Saffat 37:19)

- The popular concept is that the angel wil l blow into the trumpet two times but this is

the wrong concept.

- The correct concept is that the trumpet will be blown into three times.

- This is the view of ibn Taymiyyah.

-The first blowing into the trumpet is Raajifah. The purpose of it is to cause shock and

awe.

-The second blowing into the trumpet is called raadifah.

- The purpose of raadifah is for everyone to die.

- Even the angel Israfeel wil l die when raadifah takes place.

Whatsoever is on it (the earth) will perish.

(Ar-Rahman 55:26)

And the Face of your Lord full of Majesty and Honour will abide forever.

(Ar-Rahman 55:27)

- Only Allah shall remain alive after the second blowing into the trumpet.

- The third blowing into the trumpet is called zajrah.

Everyone shall taste death. And only on the Day of Resurrection shall you be paid

your wages in full. And whoever is removed away from the Fire and admitted to

53

Page 54: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

Paradise, he indeed is successful. The life of this world is only the enjoyment of

deception (a deceiving thing).

(Al Imran 3:185)

- When the third blowing takes place everyone wil l be resurrected and they will come

out of their graves.

- They will be gathered together in groups according to their religion.

That Day mankind wil l proceed in scattered groups that they may be shown their

deeds.

(Az-Zalzalah 99:6)

- Muslims wil l be with Muslims, Christians wil l be with Christ ians, Agnostics wil l be

with agnostics.

- Those who say the angel wil l blow into the trumpet have made a huge mistake.

On the Day (when the first blowing of the Trumpet is blown), the earth and the

mountains will shake violently (and everybody will die), The second blowing of the

Trumpet follows it (and everybody will be raised up), (Some) hearts that Day wil l

shake with fear and anxiety. Their eyes cast down. They say: "Shall we indeed be

returned to (our) former state of l ife? Even after we are crumbled bones?" They say:

"It would in that case, be a return with loss!" But only, it wil l be a single Zajrah [shout

(i.e., the second blowing of the Trumpet)].

(An-Nazi'at 79:1-13)

- Those who say the trumpet wil l be blow into twice are mistaken; their Aqeedah is

wrong.

- The translator is making a mistake because he said the raadifah and the zajrah is

the second blowing

- Ibn Taymiyyah said that those who say the trumpet wil l be blow into twice, their

Aqeedah are wrong.

- After the third blowing, they wil l be staring at the hellf ire.

54

Page 55: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

- The evidence for this is surah 79:36.

And Hell- f ire shall be made apparent in full view for (every) one who sees,

(An-Nazi'at 79:36)

AYAH 20

They wil l say: "Woe to us! This is the Day of Recompense!"

(As-Saffat 37:20)

- Youmud deen is called the Day of Recompense.

- It is called the Day of Recompense because Allah will treat you according to the

deen you followed in the dunya.

- If you follow Islam in the dunya Allah will treat you in a favorable way.

The evidence for this is surah 3:85

And whoever seeks a rel igion other than Islam, it will never be accepted of him, and

in the Hereafter he will be one of the losers. (Al Imran 3:85)

The evidence for this is surah 3:19

Truly, the rel igion with Allah is Islam. Those who were given the Scripture (Jews and

Christians) did not differ except, out of mutual jealousy, after knowledge had come to

them. And whoever disbelieves in the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, signs,

revelat ions, etc.) of Allah, then surely, Allah is Swift in call ing to account.

(Al Imran 3:19)

- Man will say on judgment day woe be unto us

- Youmul hasrah is the day of grief and regret.

- Judgment day has 50 names. Youmul hasrah is one of them.

AYAH 21

(It wil l be said) : "This is the Day of Judgment which you used to deny."

55

Page 56: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

(As-Saffat 37:21)

-In this ayah, Allah refers to Judgment Day as youmul fasl.

-You differed in regards to aqeedah, f iqh and manhaj in the dunya.

- Allah wil l decide who is right and who is wrong on Judgment Day.

- This is why Judgment Day is called youmul fasl.

Veri ly, the Day of Decision is a f ixed time,

(An-Naba 78:17)

- Youmul fasl is a f ixed time and only Allah knows the time.

- To prove that Judgment Day is a day of grief and regret, our evidence is surah 67:8-

10.

It almost bursts up with fury. Every t ime a group is cast therein, its keeper will ask:

"Did no Warner come to you?" They wil l say: "Yes indeed; a Warner did come to us,

but we belied him and said: 'Allah never sent down anything (of revelat ion), you are

only in great error. '" And they wil l say: "Had we but l istened or used our intell igence,

we would not have been among the dwellers of the blazing Fire!"

(Al-Mulk 67:9-10)

- They are regrett ing not l istening to the warners.

- If only they had listened to the Warner and not worshipped Jesus.

- If only they had used their aql (intel l igence), they would never end up today in the

hellf ire.

- This is the evidence that Judgment day is a day of grief and regret.

- The other evidence for this is surah 25:28.

"Ah! Woe to me! Would that I had never taken so-and-so as a friend!

(Al-Furqan 25:28)

56

Page 57: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

- The last evidence to prove Judgment Day is a day of grief and regret is surah 78:40.

Veri ly, We have warned you of a near torment, the Day when man will see that (the

deeds) which his hands have sent forth, and the disbeliever will say: "Woe to me!

Would that I were dust!"

(An-Naba 78:40)

- Man will wish he was dust. When he sees the dogs and the birds become dust, he

will wish he could be like them.

AYAH 22

(It wil l be said to the angels) : "Assemble those who did wrong, together with their

companions (from the devils) and what they used to worship.

(As-Saffat 37:22)

- The tafseer of this ayah is that you wil l be grouped together on judgment day with

the people with your creed and your character

- On Judgment day you will be associated with those who you associated with in the

dunya.

Narrated Anas: A man asked the Prophet about the Hour (i.e. Day of Judgment)

saying, When wil l the Hour be?" The Prophet said, "What have you prepared for it?"

The man said, "Nothing, except that I love Allah and His Apostle." The Prophet said,

"You wil l be with those whom you love." We had never been so glad as we were on

hearing that saying of the Prophet (i.e., "You wil l be with those whom you love.")

Therefore, I love the Prophet, Abu Bakr and 'Umar, and I hope that I will be with them

because of my love for them though my deeds are not similar to theirs.

[Bukhari]

- So be careful with who you associate with in the dunya.

Certainly! You (disbelievers) and that which you are worshipping now besides Allah,

are (but) fuel for Hell! (Surely), you will enter it.

57

Page 58: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

(Al-Anbiya 21:98)

- You and your false deit ies are nothing but fuel for the hellf ire

- If the false deity you worship was a Sufi master, he will be in hell because he didn't

stop

the people from worshipping him

- He enjoyed being worshipped because he had a god complex.

AYAH 22

(It wil l be said to the angels) : "Assemble those who did wrong, together with their

companions (from the devils) and what they used to worship.

(As-Saffat 37:22)

AYAH 23

"Instead of Allah, and lead them on to the way of f laming Fire (Hell);

(As-Saffat 37:23)

AYAH 24

"But stop them, veri ly they are to be questioned.

(As-Saffat 37:24)

- What is the matter with you, why do you not help one another as you used to do in

the dunya?

- This is the question asked by the wayward.

- You encouraged each other to worship false deit ies and to build synagogues.

- You helped each other to do every haram under the heavens.

- You helped each other to invade Iraq and Chechnya.

- Obama despises Putin because he came to power by kil l ing his own people.

58

Page 59: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

- You call each other a traitor if the other kaafir didn't join in the haram.

- You help each other to disobey Allah.

- Every European country joined in to insult Muhammad after Denmark did.

- The white man wil l be remembered in history as the only man to use cartoons to

insult Muhammad [saw].

- You the infidels help each other in every haram under the heavens.

- So you are asked a question in ayah 25.

AYAH 25

"What is the matter with you? Why do you not help one another (as you used to do in

the world)?"

(As-Saffat 37:25)

- Why don't you help each other now on Judgment Day.

Friends on that Day wil l be foes one to another except Al-Muttaqun (pious - see

V.2:2)

(Az-Zukhruf 43:67)

- They can't help each other because they will be enemies at each other's throat

except the believers.

- How can they help each other? Everyone wil l try to save themselves from the hellf ire

on Judgment Day.

That Day shall a man flee from his brother, And from his mother and his father, And

from his wife and his children Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him

careless of others

('Abasa 80:34-37)

- On that day a man wil l run away from his brother, his father and his children.

59

Page 60: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

- Each man has enough on his plate to deal with he can't pay attention to others.

- Therefore he doesn't give a damn about anyone, not even his mother or his wife.

- On Judgment day, it is all about Me, Myself and I

- The kaafirs in the dunya behave in the same way. It is a very self ish society in the

USA.

- They don't give you anything there.

- It means you stand alone.

Nay, but that Day they shall surrender,

(As-Saffat 37:26)

- On that day they wil l surrender to the decree of Allah.

- They will surrender to Allah's wrath, punishment and chastisement.

AYAH 27

And they will turn to one another and question one another.

(As-Saffat 37:27)

AYAH 28

They wil l say: "It was you who used to come to us from the right side [i.e. from the

right side of one of us and beautify for us every evil, order us for polytheism, and stop

us from the truth i.e. Islamic Monotheism and from every good deed]."

(As-Saffat 37:28)

AYAH 29

They wil l reply: "Nay, you yourselves were not believers.

60

Page 61: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

(As-Saffat 37:29)

- If you were a sincere a Muslim you would not have followed someone deviant and

worshipped the graves.

You (Alone) we worship, and You (Alone) we ask for help (for each and everything).

(Al-Fatihah 1:5)

- So don't blame anyone else but blame yourself because you were not a sincere

believer.

- The followers are trying to blame the leaders who led them to kufr and shirk.

- This is the reality of guilt.

- If three men rob a bank and get caught they turn on each other.

- Each one is trying to save himself from a 20 year prison sentence.

- On the day of judgment the mureed (blind follower) wil l turn against his teacher

seeking to blame him for leading him astray into KUFR, SHIRK and ZANDAQA.

ZANDAQA means HERESEY.

- The teacher wil l say to the mureed on judgment day, "you were not a sincere

believer".

- This is why the mureed was able to be led astray.

- If you were sincere, why didn't you ask about the HUJJAH, not even once, you just

followed?

- It is haraam to blind follow in regards to AQEEDAH.

- A munaafiq wil l never have 2 qualit ies: knowledge of the deen and a beautiful

character.

Abu Huraira (RA) reported that Allah’s Messenger (SAW) said: “Two characterstics

cannot combine in a hypocrite: good character and an understanding of religion.”

61

Page 62: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

[Sunan Tirmidhi (5/49) No. 2684, al-Thiqat Ibn Hibban (8/227) No. 13149, al-Mu’jam

al-Awsat al-Tabarani (8/75) No. 8010, al-Madkhal i la al-Sunan al-Kubra al-Bayhaqi

(pg. 256) No. 357]

- If you were sincere, you would never have followed the teacher in his ZANDAQA.

- To prove to you, you have no good in you, the Prophet said whenever Allah wants

good for you He gives you the proper understanding of the Deen.

- Had Allah seen any good in you, He would have given you the proper understanding

of the Deen.

AYAH 30

"And we had no authority over you. Nay! But you were transgressing people

(disobedient, polytheists, and disbelievers).

(As-Saffat 37:30)

- Don't blame those with authority for leading you astray.

- You chose soft Islam over real Islam.

- Islam without JIHAD, SHARIA and KHILAFAH.

- That is the Islam you wanted.

- Even the Shaitaan will wash his hands off those who follow him on Judgment Day.

And Shaitan (Satan) wil l say when the matter has been decided: "Veri ly, Allah

promised you a promise of truth. And I too promised you, but I betrayed you. I had no

authority over you except that I called you, so you responded to me. So blame me

not, but blame yourselves. I cannot help you, nor can you help me. I deny your former

62

Page 63: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

act in associat ing me (Satan) as a partner with Allah (by obeying me in the life of the

world). Verily, there is a painful torment for the Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers,

etc.)."

(Ibrahim 14:22)

- The Shaitaan is saying he had no authority over you.

- He called you and you responded to him.

- He dangled the carrot in front of you and you took a bite.

- He tempted you and you followed your evil and corrupted desires.

- Likewise the wicked scholars wil l wash their hands off their followers.

When those who were followed, disown (declare themselves innocent of) those who

followed (them), and they see the torment, then all their relations wil l be cut off from

them. And those who followed will say: "If only we had one more chance to return (to

the worldly l ife), we would disown (declare ourselves as innocent from) them as they

have disowned (declared themselves as innocent from) us." Thus Allah will show them

their deeds as regrets for them. And they will never get out of the Fire.

(Al-Baqarah 2:166-167)

- These scholars will say to their students that they were not sincere.

- The followers didn't ask for HUJJAH.

- They didn't want to practice Islam; they wanted to practice hislam.

- Hislam means his own dodgy version of Islam.

- Make your mind up on which one you want to follow.

AYAH 30

And we had no authority over you. Nay! But you were transgressing people

(disobedient, polytheists, and disbelievers).

(As-Saffat 37:30)

63

Page 64: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

AYAH 31

"So now the Word of our Lord has been justif ied against us, that we shall certainly

(have to) taste (the torment).

(As-Saffat 37:31)

AYAH 32

So we led you astray because we were ourselves astray." (As-Saffat 37:32)

- They led people astray because they themselves were astray.

- If a person doesn't have the Haqq, how can he give it to others? It is impossible

- They taught dodgy AQEEDAH because they themselves had dodgy AQEEDAH.

AYAH 33

Then verily, that Day, they will (all) share in the torment.

(As-Saffat 37:33)

- These above mentioned verses are clear evidence we don't give the excuse of

ignorance to people who follow wicked scholars.

- The wicked scholars and their followers wil l both share the punishment in the Day of

Judgment.

- The wicked scholars promoted democracy even though democracy is the rel igion of

the shaitaan.

- The wicked scholars allow you to join the army of the TAGHUT even though the only

army a Muslim can join is the Mujahedeen.

- The wicked scholars allow you to pray to the graves and seek intercession from the

inhabitants of the graves even though praying to the graves is Major Shirk which

makes you a kaafir.

64

Page 65: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

- The wicked scholars preach that to dismantle the Sharia of Allah is a Minor shirks

even though Allah turned the Jews into apes and swine’s for dismantl ing the Sharia in

the era of David.

FIQH U L WAAQI

- The wicked scholars preach that to learn fiqh ul waaqi is l ike learning the bible even

though the Prophet said the Muslims in their love and affection for one another is l ike

one body.

AYAH 33

Then verily, that Day, they will (all) share in the torment (As-Saffat 37:33)

- A Muslim should not follow a wicked scholar and expect Allah to let him off on

Judgment Day because Allah said in surah 37:33 that they wil l both share in the

torment.

AYAH 34

Certainly, that is how We deal with Al Mujrimun (polytheists, sinners, criminals, the

disobedient to Allah, etc.)

(As-Saffat 37:34)

- The Mujrimum Allah is speaking about in the above ayah are those who rebel

against the Haqq and make up their own religion.

End of the Dars 4

5. TAFSEER SURAH SAFFAAT

THE FRUITS OF THE QUR’AN

(Morning) June 24th 2013

- The trumpet shall be blown into three times on Judgment Day.

The 1st blowing is called raajifah.

The 2nd blowing is called raadifah.

The 3rd and final blowing is called zajrah.

- Purpose of each blow:

1st blowing is to cause shock and awe.

2nd blowing will cause people to die.

- Even the angels will die.

- Because of this Allah said in surah 55:26-27.

- Allah took the soul of the angel who blows into the trumpet.

Whatsoever is on it (the earth) will perish.

(Ar-Rahman 55:26)

- Allah will give him his soul back to blow into the trumpet for the third time.

And the Face of your Lord full of Majesty and Honour will abide forever.

(Ar-Rahman 55:27)

3rd blowing of the trumpet takes place everyone will be resurrected and they will be in groups.

- People will be grouped according to the religion they followed.

- Muslims will be with Muslims; Christians will be with Christians, etc.

That Day mankind will proceed in scattered groups that they may be shown their deeds.

(Az-Zalzalah 99:6)

AYAH 28:

They will say: "It was you who used to come to us from the right side [i.e. from the right side of one of us and beautify for us every evil, order us for polytheism, and stop us from the truth i.e. Islamic Monotheism and from every good deed]."

(As-Saffat 37:28)

66

Page 67: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

-This ayah is of particular importance because this is the plight of some people in India, Pakistan and Bangladesh.

-They follow people who tell them to worship the graves.

- Praying to the graves has been beautified for them so they left monotheism.

-The reason why they beautify polytheism is because shirk is money.

-They collect money to build monuments.

-The money can be raised in a month but they collect money for a year.

-They collect money for the refurbishment of the monument.

-They tell you to buy drapes for the monuments so that the person in the grave intercedes for you.

-The Sufi master’s use shirks to make money.

-They encourage you to build monument, make pilgrimages to them and when you visit the graves they tell you to donate to it.

-Shirk is a money spinner.

-The people will blame the leaders for beautifying shirks for them.

-You don't want tawheed because shirk is money.

-The people who beautify shirk for them; you yourselves were not sincere believers.

- If you were a sincere Muslim, why were you led astray by a Sufi, a Barelvi of a Shia?

-You fell into the web of the person who beautified shirk.

AYAH 29:

They will reply: "Nay, you yourselves were not believers.

(As-Saffat 37:29)

- We know the man is speaking the truth because the Prophet said:

- If Allah wants 'good' for you, He gives you the proper understanding of the deen.

- If you were sincere, you would not have followed the Sufi, Barelvi or Shia version of Islam.

- A person who is a jaahil with no taqwa is a munafiq because the Prophet said:

Narrated Muawiya: I heard the Prophet (SAW) saying, "If Allah wants to do good to a person, He makes him comprehend the religion. I am just a distributor, but the grant is from Allah. (And remember) that this nation (true Muslims) will keep on following Allah's teachings strictly and they will not be harmed by any one going on a different path till Allah's order (Day of Judgment) is established."

[Al-Bukhari (71) and Muslim (1037)]

Abu Huraira (RA) reported that Allah’s Messenger (SAW) said: “Two characteristics cannot combine in a hypocrite: good character and an understanding of religion.”

67

Page 68: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

[Sunan Tirmidhi (5/49) No. 2684, al-Thiqat Ibn Hibban (8/227) No. 13149, al-Mu’jam al-Awsat al-Tabarani (8/75) No. 8010, al-Madkhal ila al-Sunan al-Kubra al-Bayhaqi (pg. 256) No. 357]

AYAH 30:

And we had no authority over you. Nay! But you were transgressing people (disobedient, polytheists and disbelievers) (As-Saffat 37:30)

- The shaitaan will repeat these same words on Judgment Day.

- The evidence for this is Surah 14:22.

And Shaitan (Satan) will say when the matter has been decided: "Verily, Allah promised you a promise of truth. And I too promised you, but I betrayed you. I had no authority over you except that I called you, so you responded to me. So blame me not, but blame yourselves. I cannot help you, nor can you help me. I deny your former act in associating me (Satan) as a partner with Allah (by obeying me in the life of the world). Verily, there is a painful torment for the Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers, etc.)."

(Ibrahim 14:22)

- He shaitaan will say he rejected faith in the kufr you were practicing when you worshipped him; even the shaitaan will wash his hands off those who worship him.

-The shaitaan is saying that when you followed him you worshipped him. If you disobey the creator to obey the creation you are worshipping the creation.

- The shaitaan is saying that he only tempted you because you gave in to your temptations; he led you like a lamb to his slaughter.

- People who tell you to worship the Prophet and the graves will say it is your fault you followed them.

- The grave is an idol that people worship they led you astray because you yourselves were astray.

- They had no knowledge of tauheed, so how do you expect them to teach you tauheed?

AYAH 31:

So now the Word of our Lord has been justified against us, that we shall certainly (have to) taste (the torment).

(As-Saffat 37:31)

- They led you astray because you yourselves were astray.

AYAH 32:

So we led you astray because we were ourselves astray."

(As-Saffat 37:32)

AYAH 33:

Then verily, that Day, they will (all) share in the torment.

(As-Saffat 37:33)

This ayah is similar to surah 2:166-167.

68

Page 69: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

When those who were followed, disown (declare themselves innocent of) those who followed (them), and they see the torment, then all their relations will be cut off from them. (Al-Baqarah 2:166)

And those who followed will say: "If only we had one more chance to return (to the worldly life), we would disown (declare ourselves as innocent from) them as they have disowned (declared themselves as innocent from) us." Thus Allah will show them their deeds as regrets for them. And they will never get out of the Fire.

(Al-Baqarah 2:167)

- On Judgment Day, those who were followed will wash their hands off their followers.

-They will wish they could have one more chance to return to the dunya,

- So they could disown their sheikhs.

-The leaders and the followers will turn on each other on Judgment Day.

- Another reality of Judgment Day is that everyone will become enemies at each other’s throats on Judgment Day except the pious ones Friends on that Day will be foes one to another except Al-Muttaqun (pious - see V.2:2).

(Az-Zukhruf 43:67)

- Another reality of Judgment Day is that a man will run away from his mother, his father, his wives and his kids.

- On Judgment Day, there will be no family ties.

- You are going to say: "Myself, Myself"

- You won't give your good deeds to anyone because the only currency Allah ‘taala will accept from you on Judgment Day is your pious deeds.

- You will guard your good deeds fiercely.

- Allah told you that you and your sheikh will share the torment so why do you blind follow your sheikh.

- Who told you that Allah will let you off for blind following your sheikh?

- Who told you that Allah will let you off for blind following your sheikh who is a wicked scholar?

AYAH 34

Certainly, that is how We deal with Al Mujrimun (polytheists, sinners, criminals, the disobedient to Allah, etc.).

(As-Saffat 37:34)

-The mujrimun that Allah is speaking about in this ayah are those who dabble in kufr, shirk and zandaqa.

- The Arabic word zandaqa means heresy.

- Any aqeedah that doesn't coincide or agree with Quran and sunnah is zandaqa.

69

Page 70: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

AYAH 35:

Truly, when it was said to them: La ilaha ill-Allah "(none has the right to be worshipped but Allah)," they puffed themselves up with pride (i.e. denied it).

(As-Saffat 37:35)

- The pride which is made mentions of in this ayah is the pride of jahiliyyah.

- Some people hang on to their false religion in the name of pride.

- Some football teams are losing 5-0 but they are still playing; they are playing for pride.

- Some people are following a false religion like Judaism and Christianity in the name of pride.

Allah spoke about these people in surah 48:26.

When those who disbelieve had put in their hearts pride and haughtiness the pride and haughtiness of the time of ignorance, then Allah sent down His Sakinah (calmness and tranquility) upon His Messenger (SAW) and upon the believers, and made them stick to the word of piety (i.e. none has the right to be worshipped but Allah), and they were well entitled to it and worthy of it. And Allah is the All-Knower of everything.

(Al-Fath 48:26)

- Allah said ‘hammiyyatal jaahilia’ which is the ‘pride and arrogance of jaahilia.’

- Allah is speaking about when Quraish stopped the Muslims from entering Makkah to perform umrah.

- Nothing caused them to prevent the Muslims from performing umrah except the pride and arrogance of jaahilia

In the Bible, it says: Matthew 19:17

And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? There is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.

[Mathew 19:17]

-You use the bible to checkmate him but he still hangs on to his religion because of the pride and arrogance of jaahilia.

- Even though the truth stands out clear from falsehood,

- People hang on to their religion because of the pride and arrogance of jaahilia.

- Jesus didn't allow people to call him good, so how can you call him God?

- The reason why they deny the kalima is because they are addicted to their evil and corrupted desires.

- It is too difficult for them to embrace Islam.

- They complain Islam is too restrictive.

- They drink, gamble and have three girlfriends.

- This is the excuse they give you when you invite them to Islam.

70

Page 71: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

- Some of these mushrikeen are bisexuals.

- Some of them are on crack cocaine.

In Quran Allah say in surah 42 verses 13

He (Allah) has ordained for you the same religion (Islam) which He ordained for Nuh (Noah), and that which We have inspired in you (O Muhammad SAW), and that which We ordained for Ibrahim (Abraham), Musa (Moses) and 'Iesa (Jesus) saying you should establish religion (i.e. to do what it orders you to do practically), and make no divisions in it (religion) (i.e. various sects in religion). Intolerable for the Mushrikun, is that to which you (O Muhammad SAW) call them. Allah chooses for Himself whom He wills, and guides unto Himself who turns to Him in repentance and in obedience.

(Ash-Shura 42:13)

- Because of this, Allah said it is difficult for them to practice Islam.

- Born Muslims find it difficult to practice Islam.

- To embrace Islam and live according to it is a huge task for them;

- It is like asking a 70 year old man to climb mount Everest.

- If born Muslims find it difficult to stick to the rules,

- How can you expect a kaafir coming out of jaahilia to stick to the rules

AYAH 36:

And (they) said: "Are we going to abandon our aliha (gods) for the sake of a mad poet?

(As-Saffat 37:36)

- How can you call the Prophet a madman? How do you checkmate them?

- You, the kuffaar of Quraish, when you had expensive items,

- Did you not bring them to you Muhammad for safe keeping?

- How can you trust a madman with precious items for safekeeping?

- This doesn't make no sense you are calling Muhammad a madman, but you trust him with your precious items for safekeeping.

- When the Prophet was reciting the Quran at night, you were captivated by the recitation and you gathered to listen to it, for a madman to cause you to abandon the comfort of your bed to listen to his recitation, something doesn't add up either Muhammad (saw) is a madman or you the kaafir are a liar.

- The truth is that you the kaafir are a liar, why did they hang on to their idols? - Some people use religion for money. - Because they can't sell Allah, they say are we going to abandon our gods for the sake of a mad poet?

What lesson do you learn from this ayah?

AYAH 36:

71

Page 72: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

And (they) said: "Are we going to abandon our aliha (gods) for the sake of a mad poet?

(As-Saffat 37:36)

- The lesson is that the kuffaar use character assassination to attack the truth.

- They attack the torchbearer, If that doesn't work they kill you physically.

- To call Muhammad a mad poet is called propaganda warfare.

- Today BBC, Fox news and CNN are launching propaganda warfare against Muslims.

- They are spreading Islamaphobia.

- The skin heads killed the baby in the stomach of a Muslim woman in France.

- Muslims need to make hijra from these countries because the white kaafir is the devil.

- The white kaafir will go down in history as the only man to use cartoons to attack Muhammad.

- Not even the Hindus in India did something like that.

AYAH 37:

Nay! he (Muhammad SAW) has come with the truth (i.e. Allah's Religion - Islamic Monotheism and this Qur'an) and he confirms the Messengers (before him who brought Allah's religion - Islamic Monotheism).

(As-Saffat 37:37)

- The message of all the prophet is the same and that was monotheism but their fiqh was different.

- Tawheed cannot be changed but fiqh can change.

- Abrogation cannot take place in tauheed; and abrogation only takes place in fiqh.

AYAH 38:

Verily, you (pagans of Makkah) are going to taste the painful torment;

(As-Saffat 37:38)

AYAH 39:

And you will be requited nothing except for what you used to do (evil deeds, sins, and Allah's disobedience which you used to do in this world);

(As-Saffat 37:39)

- Allah is saying you shall reap what you soul

Allah burdens not a person beyond his scope. He gets reward for that (good) which he has earned, and he is punished for that (evil) which he has earned.

(Al-Baqarah 2:286)

AYAH 39:

72

Page 73: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

And you will be requited nothing except for what you used to do (evil deeds, sins, and Allah's disobedience which you used to do in this world);

(As-Saffat 37:39)AYAH 40:

Save the chosen slaves of Allah (faithful, obedient, true believers of Islamic Monotheism).

(As-Saffat 37:40)

- When you read this ayah, surah 103 comes to mind.

By Al-'Asr (the time). Verily! Man is in loss, (Al-'Asr 103:1-2)

Except those who believe (in Islamic Monotheism) and do righteous good deeds, and recommend one another to the truth (i.e. order one another to perform all kinds of good deeds (Al-Ma'ruf)which Allah has ordained, and abstain from all kinds of sins and evil deeds (Al-Munkar)which Allah has forbidden), and recommend one another to patience (for the sufferings, harms, and injuries which one may encounter in Allah's Cause during preaching His religion of Islamic Monotheism or Jihad, etc.).

(Al-'Asr 103:3)

AYAH 41:

For them there will be a known provision (in Paradise).

(As-Saffat 37:41)

- The known provision they will have is paradise.

For them there will be a known provision (in Paradise).

(As-Saffat 37:41)

- When you go to paradise you will get everything you want.

- The evidence for this is surah 50:35.

There they will have all that they desire, and We have more (for them, i.e. a glance at the All-Mighty, All-Majestic).

(Qaf 50:35)

- We have something extra too; to look at the Face of Allah, it is called mazeed (extra).

What are the fruits of paradise?

1) GRAPES

Verily, for the Muttaqun, there will be a success (Paradise); (An-Naba 78:31)

Gardens and graveyards; (An-Naba 78:32)

And young full-breasted (mature) maidens of equal age; (An-Naba 78:33)

- Equal age means age 33; that is the age you enter paradise.

2) DATES

73

Page 74: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

-You are not allowed to break your fast with anything except dates unless you are poor or you cannot find anything else.

- The three dates will replace the sugar you lost while you were fasting. The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “If one of you is fasting, he should break his fast with dates. If dates are not available, then with water, for water is purifying.”

[Ahmad]

3) POMEGRANATES

In them (both) will be fruits, and date- palms and pomegranates. (Ar-Rahman 55:68)

4) LOTUS

- The lotus of the dunya is different from the lotus of paradise.

- The lotus of paradise is better.

(They will be) among thornless lote-trees,

(Al-Waqi'ah 56:28)

Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another,

(Al-Waqi'ah 56:29)

In shade long-extended,

(Al-Waqi'ah 56:30)

5) OLIVES

- The evidence for this is Surah 6:141.

And it is He Who produces gardens trellised and untrellised, and date palms, and crops of different shape and taste (its fruits and its seeds) and olives, and pomegranates, similar (in kind) and different (in taste). Eat of their fruit when they ripen, but pay the due thereof (its Zakat, according to Allah's Orders 1/10th or 1/20th) on the day of its harvest, and waste not by extravagance. Verily, He likes not Al-Musrifun (those who waste by extravagance),

(Al-An'am 6:141)

6) BANANA

Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another,

(Al-Waqi'ah 56:29)

7) FIG

- Allah swears by the fig and the olive in surah 95.

By the fig, and the olive,

(At-Tin 95:1)

- All the fruits Allah mentioned in the Quran are very important.

74

Page 75: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

8) CUCUMBERS

9) LENTILS

10) ONIONS

11) GARLIC

And (remember) when you said, "O Musa (Moses)! We cannot endure one kind of food. So invoke your Lord for us to bring forth for us of what the earth grows, its herbs, its cucumbers, its Fum (wheat or garlic), its lentils and its onions." He said, "Would you exchange that which is better for that which is lower? Go you down to any town and you shall find what you want!" And they were covered with humiliation and misery, and they drew on themselves the Wrath of Allah. That was because they used to disbelieve the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) of Allah and killed the Prophets wrongfully. That was because they disobeyed and used to transgress the bounds (in their disobedience to Allah, i.e. commit crimes and sins).

(Al-Baqarah 2:61)

12) GINGER

- Allah made mention of ginger in surah 76:17.

And they will be given to drink there a cup (of wine) mixed with Zanjabil (ginger, etc.),

(Al-Insan 76:17)

13) WATERMELON

The Prophet (SAWS) said "None of your women who are pregnant and eat of water melon will fail to produce off springs that are good in countenance and good in character. [no takreej]

Benefit from the watermelon and respect it, because its juice is from the Garden and its taste is from the Garden … the watermelon is [one of the fruits] of the Garden. (Mukhtasar Tadhkirah al- Qurtubi, p. 313)

Abu Dawud and At-Tirmidhi narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) used to eat watermelon with ripe dates, saying: "The hotness of this substance (dates) neutralizes the coolness of that (watermelon)."

6. TAFSEER SURAH SAFFAAT

(THE SEVEN DIFFERENT PARADISE)

26 June 2013 (Morning Dars)

AYAH 43:

Fruits; and they shall be honored,

(As-Saffat 37:43)

- You need to understand that the taste of the fruits of paradise keeps changing.

- The reason for this is because Allah doesn't want you to get bored.

- This is one of the beauties of Paradise.

- When you are in paradise eating fruits, the color and the appearance of the fruits

remain the same but the taste changes.

- You wil l get anything you want in Paradise so the fruits of Paradise are unlimited.

- Allah told you in surah 50:35 you will get anything you want in Paradise.

There they will have all that they desire, and We have more (for them, i.e. a glance at

the All-Mighty, All-Majestic).

(Qaf 50:35)

- We have something extra (mazeed); we get to look at the face of Allah.

- Bananas, grapes and pomegranates are some of the fruits that will be ample in

Paradise.

AYAH 43:

76

Page 77: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

In the Gardens of delight (Paradise),

(As-Saffat 37:43)

- Even though we have seven Paradise, each paradise has 8 gates so if you enter

Jannatul Ma’waa it will have 8 gates.

THE SEVEN PARADISE

1) FIRDAWS

- Firdaws was made mention of in surah 23:11.

Who shall inherit the Firdaus (Paradise). They shall dwell therein forever.

(Al-Mu'minun 23:11)

- The Prophet said when you ask Allah for Paradise, ask for Firdaws.

- Firdaws is the highest Paradise.

- At the roof of Firdaws is the Arsh of Allah.

So, when you ask Allah (for something), ask for Al-f irdaus which is the best and

highest part of Paradise."

[Bukhari]

Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, "Whoever believes in Allah and His Apostle,

offer prayer perfect ly and fasts the month of Ramadan, wil l rightful ly be granted

Paradise by Allah, no matter whether he fights in Allah's Cause or remains in the land

where he is born." The people said, "O Allah's Apostle ! Shall we acquaint the people

with the is good news?" He said, "Paradise has one-hundred grades which Allah has

reserved for the Mujahidin who fight in His Cause, and the distance between each of

two grades is l ike the distance between the Heaven and the Earth. So, when you ask

Allah (for something), ask for Al- f irdaus which is the best and highest part of

Paradise." (i.e. The sub-narrator added, "I think the Prophet also said, 'Above it (i.e.

Al-Firdaus) is the Throne of Beneficent (i.e. Allah), and from it originate the rivers of

Paradise.")

77

Page 78: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

[Bukhari]

Ubadah bin As-Samit that the Prophet said, Paradise has one hundred levels and

between each level is a distance like the distance between the sky and the earth. Al-

Firdaws is the name of the highest of its levels. From it springs the four rivers and the

Throne is above it. Therefore, when you ask Allah, then ask Him for Al-Firdaws.

[Musnad Ahmad (5/316) No. 22747 and Sunan Tirmidhi (4/675) No. 2531]

- Firdaws is where the mujahideen who died on the battlefield will be, Jannatul

Firdaws is for the prophets, messengers and those who were sincere in their faith l ike

Abu Bakr.

- The Rasool said if he should take a khaleel (bosom friend) he would take Abu Bakr.

Behold, of all people the most generous toward me in regard to his companionship

and his property was Abu Bakr (RA) and were I to choose anyone as my bosom

friend, I would have chosen Abu Bakr (RA) as my dear friend, but (for him) I cherish

Islamic brotherl iness and love.

[Sahih Muslim book 31:5869]

- Allah chose Prophet Abraham as His khaleel.

- This is the special status of Abraham.

And who can be better in religion than one who submits his face (himself) to Allah

(i.e. follows Allah's Religion of Islamic Monotheism); and he is a Muhsin (a good-doer

- see V.2:112). And follows the religion of Ibrahim (Abraham) Hanifa (Islamic

Monotheism - to worship none but Allah Alone) And Allah did take Ibrahim (Abraham)

as a Khali l (an intimate friend)

(Surah An-Nisa 4:125)

2) DARUL MAQAAM

- Daarul Maqaam means the everlasting abode.

- This Paradise can be found in surah 35:35.

78

Page 79: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

Who, out of His Grace, has lodged us in a home that wil l last forever; there, toil wil l

touch us not, nor weariness wil l touch us."

(Fatir 35:35)

3) DARUS SALAM

- Darus Salam means the abode of peace.

- Allah spoke about Darus Salam in surah 10:25.

Allah calls to the home of peace (i.e. Paradise, by accepting Allah's religion of Islamic

Monotheism and by doing righteous good deeds and abstaining from polytheism and

evil deeds) and guides whom He wil ls to a Straight Path.

(Yunus 10:25)

4) JANNAATI ADN

- Jannaati Adn means gardens of eternity.

- Allah spoke about Jannaati Adn in surah 98:8.

Their reward with their Lord is 'Adn (Eden) Paradise (Gardens of Eternity),

underneath which rivers f low, they wil l abide therein forever, Allah Well-Pleased with

them, and they with Him. That is for him who fears his Lord.

(Al-Baiyinah 98:8)

5) JANNATU KHULD

- Jannatu Khuld means the everlasting garden.

- The word khuld means everlast ing.

- This paradise was made mention in surah 25:15.

Say: (O Muhammad SAW) "Is that (torment) better or the Paradise of Eternity

promised to the Muttaqun (pious and righteous persons - see V.2:2)?" It will be theirs

as a reward and as a final destination.

79

Page 80: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

(Al-Furqan 25:15)

6) JANNATUL MA'WAA

- Jannatul Ma'waa was made mention of by Allah in surah 53:15.

Near it is the Paradise of Abode. (An-Najm 53:15)

7) JANNATUN NAEEM

- Jannatun Naeem is translated as Gardens of Delight, Naeem means delight.

- Jannatun Naeem was made mention of by Allah in surah 22:56

The sovereignty on that Day will be that of Allah (the one Who has no partners). He

will judge between them. So those who believed (in the Oneness of Allah Islamic

Monotheism) and did righteous good deeds will be in Gardens of delight (Paradise).

(Al-Hajj 22:56)

- These are the seven Paradise mentioned by the scholars of aqeedah.

- The scholars of aqeedah derived the names for the seven Paradise from the Quran.

EACH PARADISE HAS 8 GATES.

The eight doors of Jannah are as follows:

1) Baabus Salaah: Those who were punctual in observing their Salaah wil l be granted

entry through this door.

2) Baabul Jihad: Those who participated in Jihad will be granted entry through this

door.

3) Baabus Sadaqah: Those who frequently gave Sadaqah wil l be admitted into Jannah

through this door.

4) Baabur Rayyaan: The people who constantly observed the fast will be granted

entry through this door.

80

Page 81: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

5) Baabul Hajj : Those who observe the pilgrimage wil l be admitted through this door.

6) Baabul Kaazimeenal Ghaiz Wal ‘Aafina ‘Anin Naas: This door is reserved for those

who suppress their anger and pardon others.

7) Baabul Aiman: This door is reserved for the entry of such people who are saved

from reckoning and chastisement.

8) Baabuz Zikr: Those who excessively remembered Allah will be admitted through

this door.

The abovementioned gates have been proven from authentic Ahadeeth. It is beyond

our ken to understand the nature of these gates, and the manner in which one will

enter them. Allamah Ibn Hajar has recorded the possibil ity that these doors are found

inside paradise after entering the main gate.

- Each paradise has eight gates and these are the eight gates of paradise mention

above

- You wil l be called to the gate of salah if you were dil igent in salah and to the gate of

fasting if you were dil igent in fasting.

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the prophet (PBUH) said: "Whoever spends on

a pair (of things) in the cause of Allah wil l be called in Paradise: 'O slave of Allah,

here is prosperity. ' Whoever is one of the people of Salah, he wil l be called from the

gate of Paradise, Whoever is one of the people of j ihad, and he will be called from the

gate of paradise. Whoever is one of the people of charity, he will be called from the

gate of Paradise. Whoever is one of the people who fast, he will be called from the

gate of Ar-Rayyan." Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, said: "O Messenger of

Allah, no distress or need wil l befall the one who is called from those gates. Will there

be anyone who will be called from all these gates?" The Messenger of Allah (PBUH)

said: "Yes, and I hope that you will be one of them."

[Sunan an-Nasa'i]

AYAH 44:

Facing one another on thrones,

(As-Saffat 37:44)

81

Page 82: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

- When you are in Paradise, you will be able to look at each other and face each other

on thrones.

Allah spoke about this scenario again in surah 83:22-24

Veri ly, Al-Abrar (the pious who fear Allah and avoid evil) will be in delight (Paradise).

(Al-Mutaffif in 83:22)

On thrones, looking (at all things)

(Al-Mutaffif in 83:23)

You wil l recognise in their faces the brightness of delight.

(Al-Mutaffif in 83:24)

AYAH 45:

Round them will be passed a cup of pure wine;

(As-Saffat 37:45)

- There is wine in Paradise but it cannot make you become intoxicated.

THE RIVERS OF PARADISE

Narrated byHakim ibn Mu'awiyah , Allah's Messenger said, "In Paradise there are a

great river of water, a great rivers of honey, a great river of milk and a great river of

wine; then the smaller river will be divided off."

[Tirmidhi 5650]

Narrated by Anas ibn Malik , When Allah's Messenger was asked what al-Kawthar was

he replied, "That is a river Allah has given me (meaning in Paradise), whiter than milk

and sweeter than honey, containing birds whose necks are like the necks of sacrif icial

camels." Umar remarked, "These have a pleasant l ife," and Allah's Messenger (peace

be upon him) replied, "Those who eat them have a more pleasant l ife.

[Tirmidhi 5641]

82

Page 83: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

- The rivers of Paradise were made mention of in surah 47:15

The description of Paradise which the Muttaqun (pious - see V.2:2) have been

promised is that in it are rivers of water the taste and smell of which are not changed;

rivers of milk of which the taste never changes; rivers of wine delicious to those who

drink; and rivers of clarif ied honey (clear and pure) therein for them is every kind of

fruit; and forgiveness from their Lord. (Are these) l ike those who shall dwell for ever

in the Fire, and be given, to drink, boil ing water, so that it cuts up their bowels?

(Muhammad 47:15)

- The rivers of Paradise don't develop a foul smell.

- The milk in the dunya goes off but the river of milk in Paradise doesn't go off.

- Allah didn't say river of wine, Allah said RIVERS of wine.

- Each river tastes different from the other so you'l l have a wide variety of wine.

- In the dunya they add sugar to the honey. The honey in Paradise is pure.

-Those who are condemned to the hellf ire, their drinks are boiling water and pus.

- Allah is comparing who will be better.

- Is it the sincere believers who inherit all these rivers or the person who is

condemned to the hellf ire and made to drink boiling water and pus?

- You can answer the question for yourself.

- The Rasool was shown four rivers; two were conspicuous and two were hidden.

- The Nile and the Euphrates are the hidden rivers.

The Prophet (saw) told us clearly about the rivers of Paradise. He said that during his

Israa' (Night Journey): "...I saw four rivers f lowing out from beneath Sidrat al-

Muntahaa, two visible and two hidden. He asked, "O Jibreel, What are these rivers?"

He said, "The two hidden rivers are rivers of Paradise, and the two visible rivers are

the Nile and the Euphrates".

83

Page 84: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

[Muslim & Bukhaari]

THE SPRINGS OF PARADISE

- Not only will Allah provide you with rivers of paradise, Allah wil l also provide you

with springs of Paradise.

In Paradise there are many springs that provide drinks of different tastes:

“Truly al-Muttaqûn [the pious and righteous] will be amidst Gardens and Water-

springs”

[Al Hijr 15:45]

"Verily al-Muttaqûn shall be amidst shades and springs."

[Ar Mursalat 77:41]

- Concerning the two Gardens which Allâh (swt) has prepared for those who fear their

Rabb, Allâh (swt) said,

"In them [both] wil l be two springs flowing [free]."

[Ar Rahman 55:50]

- And concerning the two Gardens beneath them, He said,

"In them [both] Wil l be two springs gushing forth water."

[Ar Rahman 55:66]

- In Paradise there are two springs from which al-Muqarrabûn will drink pure and

undiluted, whilst the Abrâr will drink their water mixed with something else. The first

is the Spring of Kafûr, as Allâh (swt) says:

"Verily the Abrâr [the pious, those who fear Allâh and avoid evil, shall drink a cup [of

wine] mixed with water from a spring in Paradise called Kafûr,

[Al Insan 76:5]

84

Page 85: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

A spring wherefrom the slaves of Allâh wil l drink, causing it to gush forth abundantly."

[Al Insan 76:6]

- He tells us that the pious will drink from it mixed with something else, whilst those

close to Allâh will drink it pure and undiluted. The second spring is of Tasnîm, as

Allâh (SWT) says:

"Verily al-Abrâr will be in delight [Paradise], On thrones, looking at all things. You will

recognise in their faces the brightness of delight. They wil l be given to drink pure

sealed wine, the last thereof [that wine] Wil l be the smell of musk, and for this let [all]

those who strive who want to strive [i.e. hasten earnestly to the obedience of Allâh]. It

[that wine] will be mixed with Tasnîm, a spring whereof drink those nearest to Allâh."

[Al Mutaffif in 83:22-27]

- Another of the springs of Paradise is called al-Salsabîl as Allâh (SWT) says:

"And they will be given to drink there a cup [of wine] mixed with zanjabîl [ginger]

[Al Insan 76:17]

A spring there, called Salsabîl".

[Al Insan 76:18]

- This is probably the same spring as that mentioned above, i.e. Kafûr.

- The ginger in Paradise doesn't taste like the ginger in dunya.

- Nothing in Paradise is similar to what is in the dunya except by name.

- We don’t know the taste of these springs and it is impossible to imagine how they

taste.

AYAH 46:

White, delicious to the drinkers,

(As-Saffat 37:46)

85

Page 86: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

- Allah gave the color of the wine in Paradise; it is white.

- It is a pleasure for those who drink it.

AYAH 47:

Neither they will have Ghoul (any kind of hurt, abdominal pain, headache, a sin, etc.)

from that, nor will they suffer intoxication there from.

(As-Saffat 37:47)

- When you drink the wine in Paradise, you will have no ghoul (hurt, abdominal pain,

Headache, sin, etc.) you will not suffer intoxicat ion either.

- The wine in the dunya is haraam because it causes you hurt.

- It causes intoxicat ion and it gives you abdominal pain.

- You are intoxicated so because of this you are incapacitated.

- How can you be a husband who is incapacitated when you are supposed to be the

ameer of your household?

- You are incapacitated spir itual ly, physical ly, morally and mentally.

- If you drink alcohol, you have no salah for 40 days.

- Even though you have no salah for 40 days, you stil l have to pray to remain inside

the fold of Islam.

‘Abdullah ibn Umar (RA) reported that Allah’s Messenger (SAW) said, “If anyone

drinks wine then his salah over forty days are not approved. If he repents then Allah

will relent to him. If he reverts (to it) then Allah will not approve his salah over forty

days. If he repents, Allah wil l relent to him but if he reverts (to it) then Allah wil l not

approve his salah over forty days. If he repents then Allah will relent to him. Again, if

he reverts the fourth t ime, Allah will not approve his salah over forty days and if he

repents then Allah wil l not relent to him and He will give him to drink from the river of

Khabal.” Someone asked, “O Abu Abdur Rahman! what is the river of Khabal?’ He

said, “The pus of the dwellers of the people of f ire.”

86

Page 87: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

[Sunan Tirmidhi (4/290) No. 1862, Sunan Nasa'i (8/317) No. 5670, Musnad Ahmad

(2/35) No. 4917, al-Mu’jam al-Kabir al-Tabarani (12/390) No. 13441]

- When you are intoxicated you spil l bedroom secrets.

- Wine is the mother of all evils.

"Avoid Khamr, for it is the mother of all sins"(Muslim)

- Alcohol is a lethal weapon of Iblis to sow the seeds of discord among Allah's

servants.

- Iblis is always sowing the seeds of discord.

Shaitan (Satan) wants only to excite enmity and hatred between you with intoxicants

(alcoholic drinks) and gambling, and hinder you from the remembrance of Allah and

from As-Salat (the prayer). So, will you not then abstain?

(Al-Ma'idah 5:91)

- When shaikh was in prison he met people doing 25 years for murder.

- They murdered while under the influence of alcohol.

- Many people were under the influence of alcohol when they cheated on their wives

or husbands.

- A woman is easily seduced after drinking alcohol.

- If you drink wine in the dunya you wil l be deprived of it in the akhira.

Abdullah ibn ‘Umar (RA) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: “Whoever

drinks wine in this world and does not repent from that, he will be deprived of it in the

Hereafter.”

[Related by al-Bukhari (5575) and Muslim (2003)]

- Since those who drink wine in the dunya wil l not be able to drink wine in Paradise

you need have sabr so you can drink it in Paradise.

87

Page 88: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

- Many Muslims take up residence in darul harb for the sake of wine and zina.

AYAH 48:

And with them wil l be chaste females, restraining their glances (desiring none except

their husbands), with wide and beautiful eyes.

(As-Saffat 37:48)

- The women of Paradise don't look at anyone except their husbands.

- The women of the dunya fancy men who are not their husbands.

- Some women of the dunya are very promiscuous.

- 80% of the women of darul harb have had an affair.

- This percentage is even higher for men because men are more unfaithful than

women.

- The women of paradise are so faithful; Allah said they only look at their husbands ,

they only fancy their husbands.

- Each man who is not a shaheed will have two wives when he enters Paradise.

Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, "The first batch (of people) who will enter

Paradise will be (glittering) l ike the full moon, and the batch next to them wil l be

(gl ittering) l ike the most bril l iant star in the sky. Their hearts wil l be as if the heart of

a single man, for they will have neither enmity nor jealousy amongst themselves;

everyone will have two wives from the houris, (who will be so beautiful, pure and

transparent that) the marrow of the bones of their legs will be seen through the bones

and the flesh."

[Bukhari]

Jabir reported: I heard Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him) as saying that the

inmates of Paradise would eat and drink but would neither spit, nor pass water, nor

void excrement, nor suffer catarrah. It was said: Then, what would happen with food?

Thereupon he said: They would belch and sweat (and it would be over with their

88

Page 89: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

food), and their sweat would be that of musk and they would glorify and praise Allah

as easily as you breathe. [Muslim]

- Allah said that the breasts of the women of Paradise are ample.

Veri ly, for the Muttaqun, there will be a success (Paradise); Gardens and grape

yards;

And young full-breasted (mature) maidens of equal age; And a full cup (of wine) No

Laghw (dirty, false, evil talk) shall they hear therein, nor lying; A reward from your

Lord, an ample calculated gift (according to the best of their good deeds).

(An-Naba 78:31-36)

- Equal age means age 33 you wil l be the same age as your wife. You will be forever

young.

- Kaafir men brag after committing zina; you won't have this in Paradise.

- Allah said the breasts of women will be ample because this is what men love.

- Allah gives you what you love.

- The women of Paradise only fancy their husbands because men are offended when

their

wives fancy anyone else.

- If you have a wife who only fancies you, you should not divorce her.

- This is because we are living in a world which is full of treachery, deceit and

unfaithfulness

AYAH 49:

(Delicate and pure) as if they were (hidden) eggs (well) preserved

(As-Saffat 37:49)

- These women are delicate and pure.

- You should treat them, your wife l ike an egg in dunya.

89

Page 90: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

- An egg is fragile so don't harm your wife in speech or actions.☺

- You should preserve her by covering her beauty in hijaab or even niqaab.

- The Prophet said the best of you are those who treat their wives the best.

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Messenger of Allah (PBUH)

said, "The believers who show the most perfect Faith are those who have the best

behavior, and the best of you are those who are the best to their wives".

[At-Tirmidhi]

Allah said in surah 4:34 that men are the maintainers and protectors of women.

Men are the protectors and maintainers of women, because Allah has made one of

them to excel the other, and because they spend (to support them) from their means.

Therefore the righteous women are devoutly obedient (to Allah and to their

husbands), and guard in the husband's absence what Allah orders them to guard (e.g.

their chastity, their husband's property, etc.). As to those women on whose part you

see il l conduct, admonish them (first), (next), refuse to share their beds, (and last)

beat them (light ly, if it is useful), but if they return to obedience, seek not against

them means (of annoyance). Surely, Allah is Ever Most High, Most Great.

(An-Nisa 4:34)

- This is in contrast of the women of the dunya.

- The women of the dunya fancy other men.

- These 80% belong to darul harb.

-The women of Paradise don't have diseases of the heart l ike lust.

- The women of Paradise only look at their husbands and not at other men; because

there are no diseases of the heart in Paradise.

- Diseases of the heart l ike greed and self ishness are found in the dunya.

AYAH 49:

- They don't even blow their noses, urinate or defecate.

- These women are muttahara.

AYAH 50:

Then they wil l turn to one another, mutually questioning.

(As-Saffat 37:50)

- This questioning is taking place in Paradise.

92

Page 93: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

- They will be sitt ing in the gatherings of the believers in Paradise.

- They will be questioning each other about the time they spent in the dunya.

- They will question each other about their suffering and persecution at the hands

of the kuffar, the apostates, the hypocrites and even the zindeeq and the apostates

AYAH 51:

A speaker of them wil l say: "Verily, I had a companion (in the world),

(As-Saffat 37:51)

- The companion was a kaafir companion he used to have in the dunya and the

speaker is a Muslim.

AYAH 52:

Who used to say: "Are you among those who believe (in resurrect ion after death).

(As-Saffat 37:52)

- Allah used the word ‘Qareen’; that means they spent a lot of t ime together.

- The kaafir has no excuse on Judgment Day to say: "I didn't hear about Islam".

- He can't use the excuse of ignorance.

- What did the kaafir companion say when he was in the dunya?

- He asked the Muslim if he was of those who believed in the resurrect ion.

- He asked this in utter astonishment.

- The kaafir doesn't believe in the resurrect ion, Paradise or the Hellf ire.

AYAH 53:

93

Page 94: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

"(That) when we die and become dust and bones, shall we indeed (be raised up) to

receive reward or punishment (according to our deeds)?"

(As-Saffat 37:53)

- The kaafir used to ask the Muslim in the dunya this question.

- This question is ridiculous because recreation after disintegrat ion is easy for

Allah to do.

- We are not allowed to put a limit on the Power of Allah.

- This person denies the resurrection because he is very sinful, he can't afford to

meet his Maker.

- They call us extremists when we practice our deen, they are the extremists because

they are extremely sinful.

AYAH 54:

(The man) said: "Will you look down?"

(As-Saffat 37:54)

- This ayah is clear evidence that those in Paradise wil l be allowed to see those who

are in the hellf ire.

- Allah wil l grant them that privi lege.

AYAH 55:

So he looked down and saw him in the midst of the Fire.

(As-Saffat 37:55)

- On Judgment Day, the Muslims wil l see a scholar who used to teach them the

deen in the hellf ire.

- They will ask him why he is in the hellf ire.

- He will say: "I used to tell you not to drink alcohol and commit zina but I used to

94

Page 95: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

do all these things in secret".

- The kaafir asked the Muslim if he is among those who believe in the resurrection,

Paradise and the hellf ire.

- The Muslim wil l see this kaafir in the hellf ire.

AYAH 56:

He said: "By Allah! You have nearly ruined me.

(As-Saffat 37:56)

- The associat ion of the Muslim with the kaafir nearly ruined the Muslim.

- If he wasn't a fervent Muslim, he would have been turned into an apostate, he would

have suffered a relapse.

-because this companion that the Muslim had was not a believer

- The kaafir used to think that the beliefs of the Muslim were farfetchedness to the

highest order.

AYAH 57:

Had it not been for the Grace of my Lord, I would certainly have been among those

brought forth (to Hell)."

(As-Saffat 37:57)

- It was by the Grace of Allah that the kaafir didn't cause the Muslim to doubt his

Islamic faith

- So today, the Muslim is in Paradise looking at the kaafir in the hellf ire.

- Not every Muslim is fortunate like this Muslim who refused to be influenced by

his kaafir associate.

- Some Muslims become influenced by their kaafir friends in the dunya and end up

in the hellf ire.

95

Page 96: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

Ah! Woe to me! Would that I had never taken so-and-so as a friend!

(Al-Furqan 25:28)

- It is too late. You allowed your kaafir friend to let you apostate from the deen.

- Some Muslims have a weak personality so it is easy for kaafirs to make them

doubt their faith and apostate from their deen.

- Some Muslims have a strong personality so kaafirs cannot make them budge

from the deen or doubt their faith.

- Those who have weak personalit ies need to avoid harmful company.

Narrated Abu Hurayra: The Prophet (saws) said: A man follows the religion of his

friend; so each one should consider whom he makes his friend

[Abu Dawud]

- They also need to avoid harmful websites.

- The Jews have established websites specif ical ly to make people apostate from

Islam.

- Apostasy is for a person to stop believing in Islam.

- The punishment for an apostate is death.

Allah spoke about apostasy in surah 4:89.

They wish that you reject Faith, as they have rejected (Faith), and thus that you all

become equal (l ike one another). So take not Auliya' (protectors or friends) from

them, ti l l they emigrate in the Way of Allah (to Muhammad SAW). But if they turn back

(from Islam), take (hold) of them and kil l them wherever you find them, and take

neither Auliya' (protectors or friends) nor helpers from them.

(An-Nisa 4:89)

- The above mentioned verse is evidence that apostates are kil led.

96

Page 97: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

It was narrated from 'Aisha, the Mother of the Believers, that the Messenger of Allah

said: "It is not permissible to kil l a Muslim except in one of three cases: A adulterer

who has been married, who is to be stoned; a man who kil ls a Muslim deliberately;

and a man who leaves Islam and wages war against Allah, the Mighty and Sublime,

and His Messenger, who is to be kil led, crucif ied or banished from the land."

[Sunan an-Nasa'i]

- Before you kil l the apostate you lock him up in prison and give him time to come

back to Islam. It is not from the shariah to kil l the apostate immediately.

- There is no time set by shariah as to how long you give him to come back to

Islam.

- This is left up to the personal i jt ihaad of the Qadi in the courthouse.

It was narrated from 'Aisha, the Mother of the Believers, that the Messenger of Allah

said: "It is not permissible to kil l a Muslim except in one of three cases: A adulterer

who has been married, who is to be stoned; a man who kil ls a Muslim deliberately;

and a man who leaves Islam and wages war against Allah, the Mighty and Sublime,

and His Messenger, who is to be kil led, crucif ied or banished from the land." [Sunan

an-Nasa'i]

Yahya related to me from Malik from Zayd ibn Aslam that the Messenger of Allah, may

Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "If someone changes his deen - strike his

neck!"

[Muwatta Malik]

- The above mentioned hadiths is clear evidence that the apostate that leaves

Islam is kil led.

- The apostate has to be incarcerated to give him ample time to return to the fold

of Islam.

- An apostate is not kil led immediately.

- A Saudi boy tweeted something about the Prophet, the scholars said he apostate.

97

Page 98: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

- He ran away to Malaysia and he was extradited back to Saudi Arabia.

- He was not kil led; he was given the opportunity to return to Islam and he

returned to Islam.

- In the time of the Prophet and the sahabas apostates were given the

opportunity to return to Islam.

- Abu Bakr gave those who refused to pay zakah the opportunity to return to

Islam and they returned to Islam.

- When they returned to Islam Abu Bakr said: "I accept you as my Muslim brothers

but I won't use you on the frontline".

- When Umar became the caliph, he overruled what Abu Bakr did and he used

these people on the frontl ine.

- They proved to be sincere and they didn't betray Islam.

- Apostates should be given the opportunity to come back to Islam because the

shaitaan runs in our veins the way blood runs in our veins.

- As for the statement of a person: "I WISH I WASN'T A MUSLIM", this statement is

major kufr and he becomes an apostate.

- Therefore his marriage has become void and his wife has now fallen into 3

months of iddah.

- If he returns to Islam within 3 months, the marriage can be reinstated.

- This person has to retake his shahadah to return to Islam and he has to make

taubah.

- As for the outburst of a Muslim: "THE KAAFIRS ARE BETTER THAN THE MUSLIMS"

he has to be questioned what he meant from his outburst.

- If he meant that the kaafirs are better than the fake Muslims, he is not a kaafir.

- Maybe he got ripped off by a hypocrite.

98

Page 99: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

- Maybe a hypocrite impregnated his daughter with this outburst, if he meant the

kaafirs are better than the hypocrit ical Muslims, he is not an apostate.

Allah said in surah 4:145 that the hypocrites will be in the bottom of the hellf ire.

Veri ly, the hypocrites will be in the lowest depths (grade) of the Fire; no helper will

you find for them.

(An-Nisa 4:145)

- This outburst coincides with the Quran.

- If he meant by his outburst that the kaafirs are better than the real Muslims then

he becomes an apostate.

- As for the Muslim man who is married to a Christ ian woman and says: "MY

CHILDREN ARE FREE TO CHOOSE BETWEEN ISLAM AND CHRISTIANITY; I WONT

INTERFERE IN THEIR CHOICE", he is an apostate.

- This is because according to sharia law, whenever children are born from dual

heritage it is compulsory on the father to bring the children up as Muslims.

Allah said in surah 66:6 to save yourselves and your families from the fire.

- As for the man who says: "I DON'T SEE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ISLAM AND

CHRISTIANITY; THEY ARE ALL THE SAME FOR ME", he is a kaafir.

- This man is a kaafir because he is putting Islam and kufr on the same even keel.

Shall We then treat the (submitt ing) Muslims like the Mujrimun (criminals, polytheists

and disbelievers, etc.) What is the matter with you? How judge you?

(Al-Qalam 68:35-36)

99

Page 100: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

- As for the Sheikh who passes a fatwa: "MUSLIM BOYS CAN JOIN THE BRITISH

ARMY, THE AMERICAN ARMY, NATO, ETC.", he is a kaafir.

Allah said the only army you can join is the army of the mujahideen.

Those who believe, f ight in the Cause of Allah, and those who disbelieve, f ight in the

cause of Taghut (Satan, etc.). So fight you against the friends of Shaitan (Satan);

Ever feeble indeed is the plot of Shaitan (Satan).

(An-Nisa 4:76)

- As for the Muslim who RIDICULES THE HIJAAB, THE BEARD OR OTHER ASPECTS

OF ISLAM, he is a kaafir.

- However if he mocks a Muslim because of his shortness or his funny accent, he is

not a kaafir but he is sinful.

The evidence for this is surah 49:11.

O you who believe! Let not a group scoff at another group, it may be that the latter

are better than the former; nor let (some) women scoff at other women, it may be that

the latter are better than the former, nor defame one another, nor insult one another

by nicknames. How bad is it, to insult one's brother after having Faith [ i.e. to call your

Muslim brother (a faithful believer) as: "O sinner", or "O wicked", etc.]. And

whosoever does not repent, then such are indeed Zalimun (wrong-doers, etc.).

(Al-Hujurat 49:11)

100

Page 101: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

- The reason why Allah mentioned women specif ical ly is because laughing at

people are prevalent among women.

- As for the Muslim who utters words of kufr l ike :"THE QURAN IS A FAKE BOOK"

while under the influence of alcohol or drugs:

- If he was so intoxicated to the extent he did not know what he was uttering he is not

an apostate.

- If the intoxication was mild and he knew what he was uttering he is an apostate.

Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him) said:

The one who studies the sources of sharee‘ah wil l realize that the Lawgiver

disregarded words that were not meant as said by the one who uttered them; rather

he uttered them unintentionally, as in the case of one who is sleeping, or forgot, or

was intoxicated, or was ignorant, or was compelled, or made a mistake as a result of

extreme joy or anger or sickness, and the like.

[End quote from I‘laam al-Muwaqqi‘een, 3/78]

- In the above mentioned fatwa of Ibn Qayyim, he listed intoxication as an impediment

of takfeer.

- The person who utters a word of kufr under the influence of alcohol or drugs is not

an apostate if he did not know what he was saying.

- If he pronounces divorce on his wife under the influence of alcohol or drugs and he

did not know he was doing so the divorce is not valid.

- Even though it is halal for Muslim men to marry Christ ian gir ls, if a Muslim girl

becomes a Christ ian the marriage is void.

- This is because we don't classify her as a Christian; we classify her as an apostate.

- It is haraam to live with an apostate.

- The man who returns to Islam after apostate does not need to repeat his Hajj.

101

Page 102: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

- His hajj is sti l l valid because he came back to Islam.

- His hajj is only bautil if he remains an apostate.

The evidence for this is surah 2:217.

And whosoever of you turns back from his religion and dies as a disbeliever, then his

deeds will be lost in this l ife and in the Hereafter, and they wil l be the dwellers of the

Fire. They will abide therein forever."

(Al-Baqarah 2:217)

- The scholars of Islam use this ayah as the hujjah to say that as for the man who

returned to Islam after having apostating, his Hajj is sti l l valid.

THOSE WHO DO FOUR THINGS TO MUHAMMAD HAVE APOSTATED:

1) THOSE WHO INSULT MUHAMMAD

- Those who insult Muhammad like the white people who call him a pedophile even

though the hadith that says Aisha consummated the marriage at age 9 is fabricated.

- Aisha migrated from Makkah to Medina at age 17.

- She consummated her marriage two years later at age 19.

- Hisham ibn Urwah who narrated the hadith became old and senile so he said

Aisha was 9 instead of 19.

2) TO MOCK AND RIDICULE MUHAMMAD

- An example of this is the white people who establish a day called Draw

Muhammad Day.

- They use this day to mock and ridicule Muhammad.

- The evidence to prove you become a kaafir when you mock Muhammad is

Surah 9:65-66.

102

Page 103: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

If you ask them (about this), they declare: "We were only talking idly and joking." Say:

"Was it at Allah, and His Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelat ions,

etc.) and His Messenger (SAW) that you were mocking?"

(At-Tawbah 9:65)

Make no excuse; you have disbelieved after you had believed. If We pardon some of

you, We will punish others amongst you because they were Mujrimun (disbelievers,

polytheists, sinners, criminals, etc.).

(At-Tawbah 9:66)

3) TO DENY HIS PROPHETHOOD BY CLAIMING HE IS A FALSE PROPHET LIKE

THE CHRISTIANS AND JEWS DO

- Allah pronounced Muhammad His Messenger on many occasions in the Quran like

Surah 33:40.

Muhammad (SAW) is not the father of any man among you, but he is the Messenger

of Allah and the last (end) of the Prophets. And Allah is Ever All Aware of everything.

(Al-Ahzab 33:40)

The other evidence is surah 48:29.

Muhammad (SAW) is the Messenger of Allah, and those who are with him are severe

against disbelievers, and merciful among themselves. You see them bowing and

fall ing down prostrate (in prayer), seeking Bounty from Allah and (His) Good

Pleasure. The mark of them (i.e. of their Faith) is on their faces (foreheads) from the

traces of (their) prostrat ion (during prayers). This is their descript ion in the Taurat

(Torah). But their descript ion in the Injeel (Gospel) is l ike a (sown) seed which sends

forth its shoot, then makes it strong, it then becomes thick, and it stands straight on

its stem, delight ing the sowers that He may enrage the disbelievers with them. Allah

has promised those among them who believe (i.e. all those who follow Islamic

Monotheism, the rel igion of Prophet Muhammad SAW til l the Day of Resurrect ion) and

do righteous good deeds, forgiveness and a mighty reward (i.e. Paradise).

(Al-Fath 48:29)

103

Page 104: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

4) TO LIE ON MUHAMMAD DELIBERATELY IN ORDER TO SPREAD A FALSE

DOCTRINE AMONG THE MUSLIMS

- This is the modus operandi of a shady Shiite and a goofy Sufi.

Narrated Anas: The fact which stops me from narrat ing a great number of Hadiths to

you is that the Prophet said: "Whoever tells a l ie against me intentionally, then

(surely) let him occupy his seat in Hell-f ire."

[Sahih Bukhari]

- The above mentioned hadith means those who lie on Muhammad deliberately to

spread a false doctrine among the Muslims have become an apostate.

- Therefore he should take his seat in the hellf ire.

- The other apostate is the one who DENIES ONE OF THE 5 PILLARS OF ISLAM.

- It is for this reason that Abu Bakr fought and kil led those that didn't pay zakah.

- They were buried in the graveyard of the kuffar and their women were taken as

concubines.

- The other apostate is the one who DENIES ONE OF THE 6 PILLARS OF IMAAN.

- It is because of this reason Ibn Abbas said: "Don't pray over those people who deny

Qadr". Qadr is the last pil lar of Imaan.

- We call those who deny Qadr ‘Qadriyyah’.

The other apostate is the person who PLANS TO APOSTATE.

- For example, the man who says to his Hindu girlfr iend: "When I marry you I am

going to leave Islam".

What you have to do is repent to Allah, may He be exalted, say the Shahaadatayn

and come back to Islam, because a person becomes a kaafir the moment he says that

he wil l apostatize in the future, or he decides to apostatize, or he says, “If such and

such happens, I wil l apostatize,” because adhering firmly to Islam is essential, and

any hesitation concerning that constitutes kufr.

104

Page 105: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

An-Nawawi (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Deciding to become a kaafir in the

future constitutes kufr in the present. Hesitancy about whether to commit kufr or not

constitutes kufr in the present, as does making it conditional upon some future event,

such as saying, “If my wealth is destroyed or if my child dies, I will become a Jew or a

Christian.” And approval of kufr is kufr. If a kaafir who wants to become Muslim asks

him to prompt him to say the word of Tawheed and he does not do that, or he

indicates that he should not become Muslim, or he suggests to a Muslim that he

should apostatize, then he is a kaafir.

[End quote from Rawdat at-Taalibeen, 10/65]

In al-Mawsoo‘ah al-Fiqhiyyah (42/307) it says: The fuqaha’ are of the view that if a

Muslim thinks of becoming a kaafir, or he has doubts about the Oneness of Allah or

Prophet hood or the Day of Resurrect ion, or he intended to stop being a Muslim, or he

is hesitant as to whether he should become a kaafir or not, or he decides that he wil l

become a kaafir tomorrow or in the future, he goes out of Islam and becomes an

apostate immediately, because developing doubts contradicts the firm intention to be

a Muslim. End quote.

It is not permissible for a man to have a relationship with a non-mahram woman, and

it is not permissible for him to marry a Hindu woman unless she becomes Muslim.

You have seen for yourself the consequences of this haraam relationship, which led

you to speak words of kufr. Beware and be very cautious of such relationships. Pray a

great deal for forgiveness (ist ighfaar) and do a lot of righteous deeds in the hope that

Allah may forgive you and accept your repentance.

- Planning to apostate makes you become a kaafir.

- To put a condition on your iman is apostasy.

WHY DO MUSLIMS KILL APOSTATES?

The punishment for apostasy from the religion of Islam is execution. Allaah says

(interpretat ion of the meaning):

“And whosoever of you turns back from his religion and dies as a disbeliever, then his

deeds will be lost in this l ife and in the Hereafter, and they wil l be the dwellers of the

Fire. They will abide therein forever” [al-Baqarah 2:217]

105

Page 106: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

And it was proven that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

“Whoever changes his religion, execute him.” Narrated by al-Bukhaari in his Saheeh.

What this hadeeth means is that whoever leaves Islam and changes to another

rel igion and persists in that and does not repent, is to be executed. It was also proven

that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “It is not

permissible to shed the blood of a person who bears witness that there is no god but

Allaah and that I am the Messenger of Allaah except in three cases: a life for a l ife, a

previously-married person who commits adultery, and one who leaves Islam and

forsakes the jamaa’ah.”

[Narrated by al-Bukhaari and Muslim]

This harsh punishment is for a number of reasons:

1 – This punishment is a deterrent to anyone who wants to enter Islam just to follow

the crowd or for hypocrit ical purposes. This wil l motivate him to examine the matter

thoroughly and not to proceed unless he understands the consequences of that in this

world and in the Hereafter. The one who announces his Islam has agreed to adhere to

all the rul ings of Islam of his own free will and consent, one of which rulings is that he

is to be executed if he apostatizes from the faith.

2 – The one who announces his Islam has joined the jamaa’ah (main body) of the

Muslims, and whoever joins the main body of the Muslims is required to be completely

loyal and to support it and protect it against anything that may lead to f itnah or

destroy it or cause division. Apostasy from Islam means forsaking the jamaa’ah and

its divine order, and has a harmful effect on it. Execution is the greatest deterrent

that will prevent people from committ ing such a crime.

3 – Those Muslims who are weak in faith and others who are against Islam may think

that the apostate has only left Islam because of what he has found out about its real

nature, because if it were the truth then he would never have turned away from it. So

they learn from him all the doubts, l ies and fabricat ions which are aimed at

extinguishing the light of Islam and putting people off from it. In this case executing

the apostate is obligatory, in order to protect the true religion from the defamation of

the liars and to protect the faith of its adherents and remove obstacles from the path

of those who are entering the faith.

4 – We also say that the death penalty exists in the modern laws of man to protect the

system from disorder in some situation and to protect society against certain crimes

106

Page 107: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

which may cause its disintegration, such as drugs etc. If execution can serve as a

deterrent to protect man-made systems, then it is more appropriate that the true

rel igion of Allaah, which Falsehood cannot come to it from before it or behind it [cf.

Fussilat 41:42], and which is all goodness, happiness and tranquil ity in this world and

in the Hereafter should punish those who commit acts of aggression against it and

seek to extinguish its l ight and defame its image, and who fabricate lies against it to

justify their apostasy and deviation.

Fataawa al-Lajnah al-Daa’imah, 21/234-231.

HOW DOES THE APOSTATE RETURN TO ISLAM? If a person leaves Islam then decides to come back to it, what he has to do is to bear

witness that there is no god except Allaah and that Muhammad is His slave and

Messenger. If his apostasy was because he denied one of the basic principles of the

rel igion, then his return to Islam cannot be complete until he affirms the principle that

he had denied. There is no particular t ime period within which he can return to Islam;

his repentance wil l be accepted until the point when the death-ratt le sounds in his

throat and his soul departs. If he is guided back to Islam within the time when it is

possible (i.e., before death) and he performs as many of the Islamic duties as he can,

then he is a Muslim.

[Shaykh ‘Abd al-Kareem al-Khudayr]

End of the Dars 7

8. TAFSEER SURAH SAFFAAT

THE THREE SONS OF NUH (AS)

July 01 2013 (morning dars)

- The last t ime we were here, we stopped at ayah 57

Had it not been for the Grace of my Lord, I would certainly have been among those

brought forth (to Hell)."

(As-Saffat 37:57)

- This person is saying that when he was in the dunya , you tried to take him away

from Islam and use the fear factor and other things to scare him away from Islam

- People tell you have fun whilst you are young , but Allah (swt) protected him and he

was a Muslim

107

Page 108: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

- Allah helped him against his evil companion

- This is the tafseer of the ayah

Allah said in surah 28:56

Veri ly! You (O Muhammad SAW) guide not whom you like, but Allah guides whom He

wills. And He knows best those who are the guided.

(Al-Qasas 28:56)

- That He is the only one that guides people to Islam , this is one of His names and

attributes (Al-Mu'min), this means He believes and blesses people with belief

- He also has the name Al Haadi which means it The One who guides to the straight

path

AYAH 58

(Allah informs about that true believer that he said): "Are we then not to die (any

more)?

(As-Saffat 37:58)

- They are asking: Does it mean we are not going to die anymore?

- There is nothing unpleasant in paradise , no hunger, thirst, envy, sickness etc

- There was an old woman who came to the Rasul (saws) and the Rasul told her that

there is no old woman in paradise , only the young will be there meaning you wil l

become young even though you died at an old age so you will be forever young.

Hasan Basri (RA) says that an old woman came to Rasoolul lah (SAWS) and made a

request, O’ Messenger of Allah make Dua that Allah grants me entrance into Jannah.

Rasoolullah (SAWS) replied, O’ Mother, an old woman cannot enter Jannah. That

woman started crying and began to leave. Rasoolullah (SAWS) said, Say to the

woman that one will not enter in a state of old age, but Allah wil l make all the women

of Jannah young virgins. Allah Ta’aala says, Lo! We have created them a (new)

creation and made them virgins, lovers, equal in age. (Surah Waaqi’ah, 35-37).

[Shamaa-il Tirmidhi, Ch35, Hadith 230]

108

Page 109: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

- This is why the Prophet told the old women there are no old people in Paradise.

Narrated Ibn `Umar: Allah's Apostle said, "When the people of Paradise have entered

Paradise and the people of the Fire have entered the Fire, death will be brought and

will be placed between the Fire and Paradise, and then it wil l be slaughtered, and a

call wil l be made (that), 'O people of Paradise, no more death ! O people of the Fire,

no more death! ‘So the people of Paradise will have happiness added to their

previous happiness, and the people of the Fire will have sorrow added to their

previous sorrow."

[Sahih Bukhari]

-This is answer to the question that people wil l not die in Paradise; they wil l l ive

without any sickness.

-Your journey is from the womb to the tomb. The tomb is a ziarah (a short visit).

-The place where you will abide forever is Paradise or the hellf ire. Paradise is not a

ziarah; it is called an abode.

-If a bad Muslim enters the hellf ire, he won't be there forever; the bad Muslim wil l

come out with the intercession of Muhammad (saws)

-It is only the khawaari j who believe sinners wil l be in hell forever.

We don't have the ideology of the khawaari j.

AYAH 59:

Except our f irst death, and we shall not be punished? (After we have entered

Paradise)."

(As-Saffat 37:59)

- Some people believe success is to be financial ly stable in the dunya and they

believe to graduate from Oxford or MIT is supreme success.

- They believe to become a well-qualif ied doctor is the supreme success. However,

the supreme success is when you enter Paradise to abide forever.

109

Page 110: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

- The dunya success is short l ived but the success of the hereafter is everlasting.

- This is because the success in the hereafter is a permanent success. Allah said your

destiny in Paradise is a reward which is never ending.

Allah said in Quran surah 95. Al Tin

By the fig, and the olive, By Mount Sinai, And by this city of security (Makkah), Veri ly,

We created man of the best stature (mould), Then We reduced him to the lowest of

the low,

Save those who believe (in Islamic Monotheism) and do righteous deeds, then they

shall have a reward without end (Paradise).

(At-Tin 95:1-6)

-The dunya is short l ived.

-The supreme success is to abide in Paradise forever.

-The reward in Paradise is a never-ending reward.

AYAH 60:

Truly, this is the supreme success!

(As-Saffat 37:60)

AYAH 61:

For the like of this let the workers work.

(As-Saffat 37:61)

-Work for Paradise and do not let your hereafter suffer because you are chasing

dunya.

-You are competit ive by nature but what you should compete for is the Paradise.

110

Page 111: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

- In the Qur'an Allah said in Surah Al Mutaffif in

Veri ly, Al-Abrar (the pious who fear Allah and avoid evil) will be in delight (Paradise).

On thrones, looking (at all things) You wil l recognise in their faces the brightness of

delight. They wil l be given to drink pure sealed wine. The last thereof (that wine) will

be the smell of musk, and for this let (all) those strive who want to strive (i.e. hasten

earnestly to the obedience of Allah)

(Al-Mutaffif in 83:22-26)

- Allah is tell ing you what you should strive for.

AYAH 62:

Is that (Paradise) better entertainment or the tree of Zaqqum (a horrible tree in Hell)?

(As-Saffat 37:62)

- The tree of zaqqum is a tree in the hellf ire.

Zaqqum (Arabic: زقوم) is a tree that will grow in Jahannam (Hell). Its dwellers are

compelled to eat Adh-Dhari, bitter fruit, to intensify their torment (Qur'an 69:36-37).

The Khati 'un may eat only the fruit or Ghisl in (foul pus from the washing of their

wounds) (Qur'an 69:36). Its fruits are shaped like devils ' heads (Qur'an 37:62-68).

According to Shaykh Umar Sulayman Al-Ashqar, a professor at the University of

Jordan, once the palate of the sinners is satiated, the fruit in their bell ies churns like

burning oil.

Some Islamic scholars believe the fruit tears their bodies apart and releases bodily

f luids.

Veri ly, the tree of Zaqqum, Will be the food of the sinners, Like boiling oil, it wil l boil

in the bellies, Like the boiling of scalding water

(Ad-Dukhan 44:43-46)

- The tree of zaqqum was also mentioned in surah 56:51-52.

Then moreover, verily, you the erring-ones, the deniers (of Resurrect ion)

You veri ly will eat of the trees of Zaqqum

111

Page 112: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

(Al-Waqi'ah 56:51-52)

- Allah is speaking about the wayward and those who deny the resurrection.

- They will eat from the trees of zaqqum.

AYAH 63:

Truly, We have made it (as) a trai l for the Zalimun (polytheists, disbelievers,

wrongdoers, etc.)

(As-Saffat 37:63)

- The Arabs used to have a dish called zaqqum; their zaqqum was dates mixed with

butter.

- When surah saffaat was revealed, Abu Jahl said he eats zaqqum.

- He asked: "Why are you using zaqqum to threaten me?"

- Abu Jahl doesn’t understand the zaqqum of the hellf ire is different from the zaqqum

of the dunya.

- Abu Jahl used qiyaas and compared the zaqqum of the dunya with the zaqqum of

the hellf ire.

- Ahmed ibn Hanbal said that most mistakes are made through qiyaas.

- If you compare the wine of the dunya to the wine in Paradise, that qiyaas is bautil.

- The wine in the dunya makes you vomit gives you headaches and intoxicates you.

- The wine in Paradise cannot intoxicate you.

- This is why the wine in dunya is haraam.

- Nothing in Paradise is l ike what is in dunya except by name.

AYAH 64:

Veri ly, it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hell- f ire,

(As-Saffat 37:64)

112

Page 113: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

- The fruits on the tree of zaqqum look like the heads of devils.

AYAH 65:

The shoots of its fruit-stalks are like the heads of Shaitaan (devils);

(As-Saffat 37:65)

- You wil l ask: "How can a tree survive the heat of the hellf ire?"

- The answer is that the tree itself is made from hellf ire and because of that, it is able

to survive the heat of the hellf ire.

AYAH 66:

Truly, they will eat thereof and fi l l their bell ies therewith.

(As-Saffat 37:66)

- Allah spoke about zaqqum again in surah 88:6-7.

No food wil ls there be for them but a poisonous thorny plant, Which will neither

nourish nor avail against hunger?

(Al-Ghashiyah 88: 6-7)

- The Tafseer is that the poisonous thorny plant Allah is talking about is the tree of

zaqqum.

AYAH 67

Then on the top of that, they wil l be given boiling water to drink so that it becomes a

mixture (of boil ing water and Zaqqum in their bell ies).

(As-Saffat 37:67)

- On top of that, they will be given boiling water to drink when they are thirsty.

- This water will make their intestine burst.

- Allah spoke about the boil ing water again in surah 88:5.

113

Page 114: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

They wil l be given to drink from a boiling spring, (Al-Ghashiyah 88:5)

- That is the plight of the wayward as they enter the hellf ire.

AYAH 68:

Then thereafter, verily, their return is to the flaming fire of Hell.

(As-Saffat 37:68)

- The hellf ire is 70 times hotter than the fire we use at home to prepare meals.

- The hellf ire is already created and Allah allowed two breaths.

- The hellf ire complained about its heat.

Yahya related to me from Malik from Zayd ibn Aslam from Ata ibn Yasar that the

Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "Scorching heat

is a part of the blast of Jahannam. So, when the heat is f ierce, delay the prayer until

it gets cooler." He added in explanation, "The Fire complained to its Lord and said,

'My Lord, part of me has eaten another part, ' so He allowed it two breaths in every

year, a breath in winter and a breath in summer."

[Muwatta Malik]

- So Allah allows the hellf ire two breaths; one in the summer and one in the winter.

AYAH 69:

Veri ly, they found their fathers on the wrong path;

(As-Saffat 37:69)

- This ayah means that children normally follow their parents.

AYAH 70

So they (too) made haste to follow in their footsteps!

(As-Saffat 37:70)

114

Page 115: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

- They followed their parents who were Hindus, Sikhs and Buddhists.

- They followed their parents to be loyal to them, if you are loyal to bautil; you are

loyal to a fault.

- Allah spoke about such people in surah 2:170

When it is said to them: "Follow what Allah has sent down." They say: "Nay! We shall

follow what we found our fathers following." (Would they do that!) Even though their

fathers did not understand anything nor were they guided?

(Al-Baqarah 2:170)

- They are people who were told to follow Islam but they preferred to follow their

parents.

- Their fathers were not guided yet they follow them, People who are Sufi, Shia or

Barelvi only follow their parents.

- As Muslims, we follow the Quran.

- The Quran doesn't sanction what the Sufi, Shia and Barelvi is practicing.

- We follow Quran and Sunnah; we don't follow parents.

- Not all parents are on the siraat al mustaqeem. We use the truth to judge people; we

don't use people to judge the truth.

AYAH 71:

And indeed most of the men of old went astray before them;

(As-Saffat 37:71)

- The majority went astray before them; they were not upon the siraat al mustaqeem

- Allah told us on many occasions that the majority will always be upon falsehood.

- For example surah 12:103.

And most of mankind will not believe even if you desire it eagerly.

115

Page 116: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

(Yusuf 12:103)

- Allah warned you about the majority again in surah 6:116.

And if you obey most of those on earth, they will mislead you far away from Allah's

Path. They follow nothing but conjectures, and they do nothing but l ie.

(Al-An'am 6:116)

- Most of the theories they come up with is nothing but l ies.

- You are a Muslim; don't follow the majority, follow Quran and Sunnah.

- Don't follow the majority because Allah cursed the majority.

AYAH 72:

And indeed, We sent among them warners (Messengers);

(As-Saffat 37:72)

- Allah said in surah 16:36 that every nation was sent a messenger.

And veri ly, We have sent among every Ummah (community, nation) a Messenger

(proclaiming) : "Worship Allah (Alone), and avoid (or keep away from) Taghut (all

false deit ies, etc. i.e. do not worship Taghut besides Allah)." Then of them were some

whom Allah guided and of them were some upon whom the straying was justif ied. So

travel through the land and see what was the end of those who denied (the truth).

(An-Nahl 16:36)

- The messengers commanded the people to worship Allah and reject the taghoot.

- The taghoot means the false deit ies; it is also means false doctrines.

- Umar said taghoot is the shaitaan, Taghut is the kaafir army and the kaafir

courthouse.

-Taghut is kaafir institutions like NATO, the UN, the IMF and even the free masons

-Taghut is any foundation, which was established to oppose the haqq.

116

Page 117: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

AYAH 73:

Then see what was the end of those who were warned (but heeded not)

(As-Saffat 37:73)

- Allah is speaking about people like the people of Noah who were destroyed by the

flood.

- Allah is referring to people like the homosexuals of Sodom and Gomorrah.

- They suffered Allah's retr ibution.

- One of Allah's 99 names and attributes is Al Muntaqim; therefore, Allah is swift,

severe and decisive with his retr ibution. Allah is also referring to the people who

kil led the she-camel of Saleh.

- They were destroyed by fire and brimstone.

- Allah is also referring to the people of Surah Yasin who kil led Habeeb the carpenter

and they were kil led by lightning.

- The Sunnah of Allah is to destroy those who don't take heed to the warning of His

messengers.

- Allah said in Quran Surah Israa verse 15

Whoever goes right, then he goes right only for the benefit of his own self. And

whoever goes astray, then he goes astray to his own loss. No one laden with burdens

can bear another's burden. And We never punish until We have sent a Messenger (to

give warning).

(Al-Isra 17:15)

AYAH 74:

Except the chosen slaves of Allah (faithful, obedient, and true believers of Islamic

Monotheism).

(As-Saffat 37:74)

- In Ayah 74 means, the only ones who are exempted from Allah's retr ibution are the

117

Page 118: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

sincere believers.

- The only people who can escape Allah's retr ibution are those who make sincere

taubah for their sins.

- Taubah wipes out what came before.

- The evidence to prove the door of taubah is open is surah 39:53.

Say: "O 'Ibadi (My slaves) who have transgressed against themselves (by committing

evil deeds and sins)! Despair not of the Mercy of Allah, veri ly Allah forgives all sins.

Truly, He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

(Az-Zumar 39:53)

- This ayah means the door of taubah is always open.

- The ayah means Allah forgives all sins, even major shirk, as long as you make your

taubah before you die.

- This is the meaning of the above mentioned ayah.

AYAH 75:

And indeed Nuh (Noah) invoked Us, and We are the Best of those who answer (the

request).

(As-Saffat 37:75)

- The word 'US' means Allah; it doesn't mean there are 2 or 3 gods.

- When Allah said: Verily We reveal it in the night of power", the 'We' means Allah.

- In the Quran Allah said in Surah 97. Al Qadr

Veri ly! We have sent it (this Qur'an) down in the night of Al-Qadr (Decree)

(Al-Qadr 97:1)

- This 'We' means power, authority and majesty.

- The reason why Noah made the dua because he realised the people wil l not believe.

118

Page 119: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

- The Duas of Noah can be found in surah 71:26-28.

And Nuh (Noah) said: "My Lord! Leave not one of the disbelievers on the earth!

If You leave them, they will mislead Your slaves, and they wil l beget none but wicked

disbelievers." My Lord! Forgive me, and my parents, and him who enters my home as

a believer, and all the believing men and women. And to the Zalimun (polytheists,

wrong-doers, and disbelievers, etc.) grant You no increase but destruction!"

(Nuh 71:26-28)

- This is the famous DUA of Prophet Noah.

- The Prophet Muhammad said that every prophet has a dua that will be answered by

Allah.

- All the other prophets have used up their dua except Muhammad (SAWS)

Abu Huraira narrated that the Messenger of Allah said: “Every Prophet has a (special)

supplicat ion which is answered. Verily, I have reserved mine as intercession for my

nation, and it shall reach, if Allah wills, those of them who die, not associat ing

anything with Allah.”

[Tirmidhi]

- Muhammad (saws) saved up his dua to be used as shafaa for his ummah.

- As long as you deny upon authentic tawheed and you didn't commit shirk, you wil l

benefit from this dua of Muhammad.

AYAH 76:

And We rescued him and his family from the great distress (i.e. drowning),

(As-Saffat 37:76)

- To die drowning is a horrible way to die.

- If you die drowning, you die a shaheed because it is a horrible way to die.

- As long as you die drowning upon authentic tawheed, you die a shaheed.

119

Page 120: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

- All of Noah's family were saved except his wife and one of his four sons. His wife

and one of his sons died as kaafirs.

- When his son was told to enter the boat, he refused because he was a Mu'tazi la. He

was a rationalist.

- In the Quran Surah Hud, verse 43

The son replied: "I will betake myself to a mountain, it wil l save me from the water."

Nuh (Noah) said: "This day there is no saviour[] from the Decree of Allah except him

on whom He has mercy." And a wave came in between them, so he (the son) was

among the drowned.

(Hud 11:43)

- His aql told him that the mountain was tall enough to save him from the flood.

- As Muslims, we follow revelat ion not reason.

- If there is a conflict between reason and revelation, we go along with revelation.

This is because revelation is perfect unlike reason.

- The son of Noah suffered a horrible demise because he gave preference to reason

over revelat ion.

- Revelation is Allah's I lm.

- Revelation is Allah's Hikma.

- Revelation is Allah's Adl.

- Reason is Allah's creation; the aql is Allah's creation.

- Because Allah's I lm is perfect and the aql is imperfect, we give preference to

revelat ion over reason.

- If the son of Noah had followed this principle, he wouldn't have drowned as a kaafir

in the flood

AYAH 77:

And, his progeny, them We made the survivors (i.e. Shem, Ham and Japheth).

120

Page 121: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

(As-Saffat 37:77)

- One son died but three survived.

- The three remaining sons became the fathers of the entire world.

- Therefore, Sham was the father of the Arabs, the Jews and the people of Asia.

- Hama is the father of the people of Africa.

- In the Quran Allah said Surah Hijr verse 26

Veri ly We created man of potter's clay of (hama) black mud altered,

[Al Hijr 15:26] {Pickthall}

- The father of the people of Europe is Japheth

Prophet Muhammad (SAWS) said Shem was the father of the Arabs, Japheth was the

father of the Byzantines, and Ham was the father of Abyssinians. Nuh’s (AS) three

believing sons, who became ancestors of all mankind.

(Tabari)

- The three remaining sons of Noah are the three fathers for all the people of the

world.

- They were believers.

AYAH 78:

And left for him (a goodly remembrance) among generations to come in later t imes:

(As-Saffat 37:78)

- The legacy of Noah is a wonderful legacy because he warned his people for 950

years.

- He is classif ied as one of the 5 strong willed prophets.

121

Page 122: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

- Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus and Muhammad are the 5 strong wil led prophets.

AYAH 79:

Salamun (peace) be upon Nuh (Noah) (from Us) among the 'Alamin (mankind, j inns

and all that exists)!"

(As-Saffat 37:79)

- When the people of Paradise enter the Paradise, Allah will say: "assalamu alaikum"

to them.

- The evidence for this is surah 36:58.

(It wil l be said to them) : Salamun (peace be on you), a Word from the Lord (Allah),

And Most Merciful.

(Ya-Sin 36:58)

- Salam is the greeting of all the prophets.

AYAH 80:

Veri ly, thus We reward the Muhsinun.

(As-Saffat 37:80)

Az-Zubair bin Al- 'Awwam narrated that the Prophet (saws) said: "The disease of the

nations before you is creeping towards you: Envy and hatred, it is the Haliqah. I do

not speak of what cuts the hair, but what severs the religion. By the One in Whose

Hand is my soul! You will not enter Paradise until you believe, and you wil l not

believe until you love each other. Shall I tell you about what wil l strengthen that for

you? Spread the Salam among each other."

[Tirmidhi]

- The believers are of 3 categories: Muslimun, Muminun and Muhsinun.

- The highest category is the Muhsinun.

AYAH 81:

122

Page 123: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

Veri ly, he [Nuh (Noah)] was one of Our believing slaves.

(As-Saffat 37:81)

- The best thing in l ife to become is a slave and the worst thing in l ife to become is a

slave.

- If you are a slave of Allah, that is the highest status, if you are a slave of your evil

and corrupted desires, that is the lowest status.

AYAH 82:

Then We drowned the other (disbelievers and polytheists, etc.).

(As-Saffat 37:82)

- According to Ibn Abbas 80 people went into the ark with Noah.

- After giving dawah for 950 years, 80 people believed.

- The people of Noah were the first to commit shirk. Ibn Abbas said between Adam

and Noah were 10 generations and they didn't commit shirk.

Ibn 'Abbas (RA) said: "Between Nooh (Noah) and Adam were ten generations, all of

them were upon Sharee'ah (law) of the truth, then they differed. So Allah sent

prophets as bringers of good news and as warners."

[Related by Ibn Jareer at-Tabaree in his tafseer (4/275) No. 4048 and al-Haakim

(2/596) No. 4009 who said: "It is authentic according to the criterion of al-Bukhari"

Adh-Dhahabe also agreed]

- Therefore, the people of Noah were the first to commit shirk.

Abu Huraira (RA) reported that Allah’s Messenger (SAWS) said, “By Him in Whose

Hand is my life, you will not enter Paradise ti l l you believe, and you will not believe

ti l l you love each other. Shall I not guide you to something which if you do, you wil l

love each other? Give currency to salaam between yourselves.”

End of Dars 8

9. TAFSEER SURAH SAFFAAT –

THE THREE LIES OF ABRAHAM

03 July 2013 (Morning Dars)

124

Page 125: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

AYAH 83:

And, veri ly, among those who followed his [Nuh's (Noah)] way (Islamic Monotheism)

was Ibrahim (Abraham)

(As-Saffat 37:83)

- This means Abraham followed Noah in regards to monotheism.

- He didn't go astray in regards to monotheism.

- Abraham followed in the footsteps of Noah it must be borne in mind that Noah and

Abraham are among the five strong willed Prophets.

- Abraham was given the tit le 'khaleelullah' (the intimate friend of Allah).

- No one has the right to deny that Abraham was Khaleelul lah.

- In the past when a person denied this fact, he was beheaded by the governor of

Iraq.

- He also denied that Allah spoke to Musa so the governor of Iraq

- Who was Khalid ibn Abdullah al Qasree beheaded Ja'd ibn Dirham on Eid Day.

- Ja'd ibn Dirham was of the Jahmiyyah school of thought.

- Ja'd ibn Dirham was beheaded on Eid Day in front of people because he denied

verses of

the Quran.

'Abdur-Rahmaan Ibn Muhammad Ibn Habeeb Ibn Abee Habeeb on the authority of his

father, on the authority of his grandfather [who] said: I witnessed Khalid Ibn 'Abdullah

Al-Qasree - and he addressed them at Waasit - "Oh People, make sacrif ice, may Allah

accept it from you. Veri ly I am sacrif icing Al-Ja'd Ibn Dirham, for indeed he claims

that Allah did not take Ibrahim as a khaleel (close friend), and [that] He did not speak

to Moosa. Most Perfect is He and exalted is He from what Al-Ja'd say." Then he

descended and slaughtered him. I say: And the Jahmiyyah and Mu'tazilah speak with

this, and they distort the text of the revelation regarding that, and they claim that the

Lord is purif ied of that (i.e. having spoken to Moses and taken Ibrahim as a khalil).

125

Page 126: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

[Mukhtasar al-Uluww of adh-Dhahabi, (p.134)]

- The Quran is kalaamullah. Therefore no one has the right to deny a single verse

from the Holy Quran.

AYAH 84:

When he came to his Lord with a pure heart [attached to Allah Alone and none else,

worshipping none but Allah Alone true Islamic Monotheism, pure from the fi lth of

polytheism].

(As-Saffat 37:84)

- Abraham came to Allah with a pure heart meaning his heart was pure from kufr,

shirk,

Hypocrisy, superstit ions and zandaqa.

- The Arabic word zandaqa means heresy.

- Pure heart also means pure from racism, tribalism, nationalism, greed, lust and

envy.

- A pure heart is pure from pride, arrogance and conceitedness.

- Pure heart means pure from diseases of the heart.

- In order for you to be a daee, you need to purify your heart from diseases.

- If your heart is not purif ied, your dawah wil l fail.

- Many people tried to give dawah but failed because they didn't purify their hearts.

- If your heart is not purif ied, your actions become evil so your dawah shall fail.

There is a lump of f lesh in the body, the nature of which is that when it is sound, the

entire body is sound, and when it is corrupt, the entire body is corrupt - it is the

heart. '"

[AL-Bukhari (52) and Muslim (1599)]

126

Page 127: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

- A pure heart is a prerequisite for becoming a good daee.

- Allah took it upon Himself to purify the heart of Muhammad.

Have We not opened your breast for you (1) (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him))?

And removed from you your burden, (2) Which weighed down your back? (3) And

raised high your fame? (4)

(Ash-Sharh 94:1-4)

- The burden that Allah is talking about here in surah 94:2 is diseases of the heart.

- The fame of Muhammad shall be raised because his name shall enter every

household

before Judgement Day.

- The name of Muhammad is mentioned in the adhan, iqama and tashahhud five times

a day.

AYAH 85:

When he said to his father and to his people: "What is it that which you worship?

(As-Saffat 37:85)

- Abraham is asking what you are worshipping because you make your own gods.

- Your religion is farfetchedness and stupidity of the highest order.

- You are making your gods instead of them making you.

AYAH 86:

"Is it a falsehood aliha (gods) other than Allah that you seek? (As-Saffat 37:86)

- He used the word ifk which means falsehood.

- The word ifk is used to describe their false religion.

127

Page 128: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

- Their situation is pit iful, appalling and pathetic because they manufacture their gods

with their own two hands.

AYAH 87:

"Then what do you think about the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, j inn’s, and all that

exists)?"

(As-Saffat 37:87)

- If you are manufacturing your own gods and praying to them then who is Allah in

your l ife? What is your opinion of Allah?

- Allah is the Creator of everything so who is Allah in your l ife? Are you going to

worship Allah as well or are you just going to worship your idols?

This is the creation of Allah. So show Me that which those (whom you worship),

besides Him have created. Nay, the Zalimun (polytheists, wrong doers and those who

do not believe in the Oneness of Allah) are in plain error.

(Luqman 31:11)

- Did the idols create vegetation, animals, the sea or the rivers which you use to

irrigate your crops?

- Allah is asking them to show what these idols have created for them.

- Allah is saying that only the Creator deserves to be worshipped.

- Therefore Tauheed Rububiyyah is evidence for Tauheed Ibaada.

- Allah spoke about Abraham on many occasions in the Quran.

One of them is surah 60:4-5:

Indeed there has been an excellent example for you in Ibrahim (Abraham) and those

with him, when they said to their people: "Verily, we are free from you and whatever

you worship besides Allah, we have rejected you, and there has started between us

and you, hostil ity and hatred for ever, until you believe in Allah Alone," except the

saying of Ibrahim (Abraham) to his father: "Veri ly, I will ask for forgiveness (from

128

Page 129: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

Allah) for you, but I have no power to do anything for you before Allah." Our Lord! In

You (Alone) we put our trust, and to You (Alone) we turn in repentance, and to You

(Alone) is (our) f inal Return,

(Al-Mumtahinah 60:4)

- Allah is saying that Abraham is the ult imate example for Al Walaa Wal Baraa.

- Al Walaa Wal Bara is called Mil lat Ibrahim.

Our Lord! Make us not a trial for the disbelievers, and forgive us, Our Lord! Verily,

You, only You are the All-Mighty, the All-Wise."

(Al-Mumtahinah 60:5)

- The tafseer of this ayah (60:5) is: O Allah does not allow the kaafirs to defeat me on

the

battlefield because the kaafirs are going to say my god is the real god.

- They are going to say their religion is the right religion.

- When the Mongols invaded Baghdad and dumped books into the river, they said they

defeated the Muslims because the religion of the Muslims is wrong.

- When the Muslims made a comeback at the battle of Ain Jaloot and defeated the

Tatars in 1260 C.E, the Tatars embraced Islam.

- It is important that you disgrace kufr.

- You were commanded by Allah in the Quran to disgrace kufr.

Fight against them so that Allah wil l punish them by your hands and disgrace them

and give you victory over them and heal the breasts of a believing people,

(At-Tawbah 9:14)

- Many Muslims became Communists.

- When communism was disgraced they left it and came back to Islam.

129

Page 130: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

- You were commanded by Allah to disgrace kufr because if you don't disgrace kufr

weak

Muslims are going to apostate and become democrats or communists.

- When Communism was strong, mil l ions of weak Muslims became communists but

when

communism was disgraced they left it and came back to Islam.

- Today, many Muslims believe in democracy.

- In order for these mill ions of Muslims to return to Islam you need to disgrace

democracy.

- They are not Muslims at the moment because democracy is the religion of the

shaitaan.

And [Ibrahim's (Abraham)] invoking (of Allah) for his father's forgiveness was only

because of a promise he [Ibrahim (Abraham)] had made to him (his father). But when

it became clear to him [Ibrahim (Abraham)] that he (his father) is an enemy to Allah,

he dissociated himself from him. Verily Ibrahim (Abraham) was Al-Awwah (has fifteen

different meanings but the correct one seems to be that he used to invoke Allah with

humil ity, glorify Him and remember Him much), and was forbearing. (Tafsir Al-

Qurtubi).

(At-Tawbah 9:114)

- Al walaa wal baraa is called Millat Ibrahim.

- When Abu Muhammad al Maqdisi wrote his book on al walaa wal baraa he called his

book 'Mil lat Ibrahim'.

- If you want to practice al walaa wal baraa learn from Abraham because that is called

Millat Ibrahim.

Concerning al walaa wal baraa, surah 58:22:

You (O Muhammad SAW) wil l not f ind any people who believe in Allah and the Last

Day, making friendship with those who oppose Allah and His Messenger (Muhammad

SAW ), even though they were their fathers, or their sons, or their brothers, or their

kindred (people). For such He has written Faith in their hearts, and strengthened

130

Page 131: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

them with Ruh (proofs, l ight and true guidance) from Himself. And We wil l admit them

to Gardens (Paradise) under which rivers f low, to dwell therein (forever). Allah is

pleased with them, and they with Him. They are the Party of Allah. Verily, it is the

Party of Allah that will be the successful.

(Al-Mujadilah 58:22)

- If you find out your parents or you children are enemies of Islam you make baraa

from

them.

- Bara is to break off all l inks.

- For you to practice al walaa wal baraa you need iman.

- If you don't have iman you are going to love people who hate Islam.

- A munafiq loves people who hate Islam.

- One of the prerequisites to practice al walaa wal baraa is to have iman.

AYAH 88:

Then he cast a glance at the stars (to deceive them),

(As-Saffat 37:88)

AYAH 89:

And he said: "Verily, I am sick (with plague. He did this trick to remain in their temple

of idols to destroy them and not to accompany them to the pagan's feast)."

(As-Saffat 37:89)

- Abraham said saqeem meaning his sickness is contagious.

- They used to have a festival; they used to leave the city to celebrate it.

- When he said he is sick, this was one of the lies of Abraham.

131

Page 132: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

Narrated Abu Huraira: Abraham did not tell a l ie except on three occasions. Twice for

the Sake of Allah when he said, "I am sick," and he said, "(I have not done this but)

the big idol has done it." The (third was) that while Abraham and Sarah (his wife)

were going (on a journey) they passed by (the territory of) a tyrant. Someone said to

the tyrant, "This man (i.e. Abraham) is accompanied by a very charming lady." So, he

sent for Abraham and asked him about Sarah saying, "Who is this lady?" Abraham

said, "She is my sister." Abraham went to Sarah and said, "O Sarah! There are no

believers on the surface of the earth except you and I. This man asked me about you

and I have told him that you are my sister, so don't contradict my statement." The

tyrant then called Sarah and when she went to him, he tried to take hold of her with

his hand, but (his hand got stiff and) he was confounded. He asked Sarah. "Pray to

Allah for me, and I shall not harm you." So Sarah asked Allah to cure him and he got

cured. He tried to take hold of her for the second time, but (his hand got as stiff as or

stiffer than before and) was more confounded. He again requested Sarah, "Pray to

Allah for me, and I wil l not harm you." Sarah asked Allah again and he became

alr ight. He then called one of his guards (who had brought her) and said, "You have

not brought me a human being but have brought me a devil." The tyrant then gave

Hajar as a gir l-servant to Sarah. Sarah came back (to Abraham) while he was praying.

Abraham, gesturing with his hand, asked, "What has happened?" She replied, "Allah

has spoiled the evil plot of the infidel (or immoral person) and gave me Hajar for

service." (Abu Huraira then addressed his l isteners saying,

"That (Hajar) was your mother, O Bani Ma-is-Sama (i.e. the Arabs, the descendants

of Ishmael, Hajar's son).

[Sahih Bukhari, Book 55, Vol.4, No.578]

The scholars stated that attributing lies to Ibrahim in this context, does not mean

explicit lying. According to Al-Haafith Ibn Hajar Ibn ‘Aqeel said: “Reasoning makes it

impossible to attribute explicit lying to Ibrahim. It is decided by the mind that a

Messenger must be trustworthy and reliable in order that people would give trust to

what he convey from Allah The Almighty. Of course, such reliabi l i ty cannot exist when

it is possible to attribute lies to him; then, what would the case be if l ies do come

from

him? Here, ascribing lying to him is for what he said took the form of lying from the

perspective of the listener. Having established this, Ibrahim would not call it as lying

except in the case of severe terror (on the Day of Judgment), due to his high rank,

otherwise, explicit lying in such situations (mentioned above) is permissible, and it

may be obligatory out of bearing the lesser of two harms to eliminate the greater of

them. “As for giving those the name of l ies, then it does not mean that they are

132

Page 133: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

blameworthy. Lying, regardless of being hideous and defective, may be considered

good in some situations, and this is one of them.

Allah Knows best.

- You are allowed to lie to save a marriage.

- You can lie on the battlefield.

- You can lie for two Muslims who are carrying grudges and don't speak to each other

for

them to make up.

- You can lie on the battlefield because the Prophet said that war is deception.

- These are the three occasions when you can lie.

AYAH 90:

So they turned away from him, and departed (for fear of the disease).

(As-Saffat 37:90)

- They turned away from Ibrahim out of fear that they will catch his disease.

AYAH 91:

Then he turned to their aliha (gods) and said: "Will you not eat (of the offering before

you)?

(As-Saffat 37:91)

- Barelvis offer food to the graves today.

- A Barelvi is a kaafir just l ike a Hindu.

- There is no difference between the two; they are pagans.

- To pray behind a Barelvi is l ike praying behind a Hindu.

AYAH 92:

133

Page 134: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

"What is the matter with you that you speak not?"

(As-Saffat 37:92)

- In other words you are lifeless; you can't speak.

- When you don't make sounds you are dead.

AYAH 93:

Then he turned upon them, str iking (them) with (his) right hand.

(As-Saffat 37:93)

- Abraham was right-handed.

- The Prophet Muhammad was also right-handed.

- Abraham didn't want to go with them to their pagan festival.

- He wanted to demolish their idols.

- This is why he said he is sick so he can't go with them.

AYAH 94:

Then they (the worshippers of idols) came, towards him, hastening.

(As-Saffat 37:94)

AYAH 95:

He said: "Worship you that which you (yourselves) carve?

(As-Saffat 37:95)

AYAH 96:

While Allah has created you and what you make!

134

Page 135: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

(As-Saffat 37:96)

AYAH 97:

They said: "Build for him a building (it is said that the building was like a furnace) and

throw him into the blazing fire!"

(As-Saffat 37:97)

- When they were building the fire for Abraham, all the animals tried to put the fire

out.

- The gecko is the only animal that didn't try to put the fire out.

- This is the only animal that didn't want the fire to go out.

- All the other animals were crying for Abraham.

Narrated By Um Sharik: the Messenger of Allah (SAWS) ordered that the salamander

should be kil led and said, "It (i.e. the salamander) blew (the fire) on Abraham."

[Sahih Bukhari (4/141) No. 3359]

AYAH 98:

So they plotted a plot against him, but We made them the lowest.

(As-Saffat 37:98)

- The reason why their plot went to waste is because Allah is the best of Planners.

- Kaafirs plot but Allah Plans and Allah is the best of Planners.

And they (disbelievers) plotted [to kil l ' Iesa (Jesus)], and Allah planned too. And Allah

is the Best of the planners.

(Al Imran 3:54)

AYAH 99:

135

Page 136: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

And he said (after his rescue from the fire): "Verily, I am going to my Lord. He will

guide me!"

(As-Saffat 37:99)

- Allah commanded the fire to be calm upon Abraham.

[Ibrahim (Abraham)] said: "Do you then worship besides Allah, things that can neither

profit you, nor harm you? "Fie upon you, and upon that which you worship besides

Allah! Have you then no sense?" They said: "Burn him and help your aliha (gods), if

you will be doing." We (Allah) said: "O fire! Be you coolness and safety for Ibrahim

(Abraham)!"

And they wanted to harm him, but We made them the worst losers.

(Al-Anbiya 21:66-70)

- The Hindus need to ask the same question that is in the above ayah (21:67).

- You are worshipping gods that you make with your own two hands.

- Your god should make you, not you make your gods.

End of the Dars 9

10. TAFSEER SURAH SAFFAAT

(ISMAEL THE SACRIFICIAL SON)

July 06 2013 (Morning Dars)

AYAH 95:

He said: "Worship you that which you (yourselves) carve?

(As-Saffat 37:95)

136

Page 137: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

- When Abraham asked the question in ayah 95 he was astonished and start led.

- This is because Abraham did not lose his f itrah.

- Therefore he found it extremely farfetched for people to manufacture gods with their

own two hands and worship them.

- When Iblis told Adam to eat from the tree he said: "Wallahi I am speaking the truth".

- So Adam was so naive because he didn't lose his f itrah.

- He believed Iblis and ate from the tree.

Then Shaitan (Satan) whispered to him, saying : "O Adam! Shall I lead you to the

Tree of Eternity and to a kingdom that will never waste away?"

(Ta-Ha 20:120)

- How can a person say wallahi and then lie? Fitrah means a pure state.

- The society has not yet corrupted you.

- Adam was like that.

- When Abraham was talking to his people he was only a teenager.

- He did not lose his f itrah.

- Therefore he asked them if they worship gods which they manufacture themselves.

- He asked the question because he did not lose his f itra and he found it completely

nonsensical for people to worship gods they carve out with their own hands.

AYAH 96:

"While Allah has created you and what you make!"

(As-Saffat 37:96)

- The scholars of tawheed use this ayah as evidence that Allah creates you and your

137

Page 138: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

actions.

- When you woke up this morning and prayed salaatul fajr, this action was created by

Allah.

- If your actions are created by Allah why is there reward and punishment?

- There is reward and punishment because the choices to do the actions were made

by you.

-You were a free human being at l iberty exercising free wil l.

ACCOUNTABILTIY IS STRIPPED FROM THE FOLLOWING PEOPLE:

1) THE CHILD UNTIL HE REACHES PUBERTY

2) THE MADMAN

3) THE SLEEPING MAN

4) THE JAAHIL WHO DID NOT KNOW THE THING WAS HARAAM

5) THE PERSON WHO IS UNDER DURESS

-An example is the person who was forced to eat pork because nothing else was

available for him to eat.

The evidence for this is Surah 2:173.

He has forbidden you only the Maytatah (dead animals), and blood, and the flesh of

swine, and that which is slaughtered as a sacrif ice for others than Allah (or has been

slaughtered for idols, etc., on which Allah's Name has not been mentioned while

slaughtering). But if one is forced by necessity without wilful disobedience nor

transgressing due limits, then there is no sin on him. Truly, Allah is Oft-Forgiving,

Most Merciful.

(Al-Baqarah 2:173)

6) THE PERSON WHO MADE A MISTAKE BECAUSE OF EXCITEMENT

138

Page 139: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

- It is called a slip of the tongue.

- The mutazil i tes believe man creates his own actions.

-This concept goes against Tawheed Rububiyyah that Allah is the only Creator.

-This concept contradicts ayah 96 of Surah Saffat where Allah said He creates you

and all your actions.

AYAH 96

"While Allah has created you and what you make"

(As-Saffat 37:96)

AYAH 97:

They said: "Build for him a building (it is said that the building was like a furnace) and

throw him into the blazing fire!"

(As-Saffat 37:97)

- What the pagans did to Abraham is clear evidence that the mushrikeen are

vehement in their hatred of the muwahideen.

- The people who are upon authentic tawheed are called muwahideen.

- Allah declared this in the Quran in Surah 5:82.

Veri ly, you wil l f ind the strongest among men in enmity to the believers (Muslims) the

Jews and those who are Al-Mushrikun (see V.2:105), and you wil l f ind the nearest in

love to the believers (Muslims) those who say: "We are Christ ians." That is because

amongst them are priests and monks, and they are not proud.

(Al-Ma'idah 5:82)

- They built a big f ire and dumped Abraham in it because of their hatred for him.

AYAH 98:

139

Page 140: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

So they plotted a plot against him, but We made them the lowest.

(As-Saffat 37:98)

- Their plot went to waste because Allah commanded the fire not to burn Abraham.

- Allah said He commanded the fire to be cool for Abraham in Surah 21:66-69.

(Abraham)!"

(Al-Anbiya 21:66-69)

- Abraham asked: “Have you then no sense?”

- For you to manufacture your gods with your own hands means you have no sense.

- This is what Hindus and Buddhists do today.

- Even a dog can urinate on your gods.

- Why do your gods need help?

- Your gods are helpless.

- Look how stupid you the kaafir are.

- Allah made their plot go to waste because He commanded the fire not to burn

Abraham.

And (the unbelievers) plotted and planned, and Allah too planned, and the best of

planners is Allah.

(Al Imran 3:54)

EXAMPLES OF HOW ALLAH MADE THE PLOTS OF THE KUFFAAR GO TO WASTE:

140

Page 141: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

EXAMPLE # 1

- WHEN THE KUFFAAR INVADED MAKKAH TO DESTROY THE KAABA AND ALLAH

SENT BIRDS AGAINST THEM

EXAMPLE # 2

-WHEN THE KUFFAAR PLANTED 7 YOUNG MEN FROM 7 DIFFERENT TRIBES

OUTSIDE THE DOORSTEP OF THE PROPHET TO KILL THE PROPHET AND ALLAH

DESTROYED THEIR PLOT

- They wanted to scatter the blood of Muhammad between 7 tribes so his tribe

couldn't take revenge.

- The Prophet came out and recited ayah 9 of surah Yaseen.

And We have put a barrier before them, and a barrier behind them, and We have

covered them up, so that they cannot see.

(Ya-Sin 36:9)

- The reason why Allah makes the plot of the infidels go to waste is because when

they fight Islam they are fighting Allah.

- When you declare war on Islam you declare war on Allah.

- Islam is the truth.

EXAMPLE # 3

WHEN THE USSR INVADED AFGHANISTAN AND ALLAH DESTROYED THEM

- That was a huge empire that covered nearly a quarter of the world.

- They invaded Afghanistan in 1979 and this war broke the back of the USSR.

- Today the USSR is confined to the dustbin of history.

- The straw that broke the camel's back was when they invaded Afghanistan.

141

Page 142: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

- This is a typical example of how Allah makes the plot of the kaafirs go to waste.

- Whenever kaafirs plot evil it always backfires in their infidel ic faces.

AYAH 99:

And he said (after his rescue from the fire) : "Verily, I am going to my Lord. He will

guide me!"

(As-Saffat 37:99)

- Ayah 99 is evidence whenever you the believer are persecuted in a land (darul

harb), HIJRA becomes NECESSARY.

- When Abraham was persecuted in the land he made hijra.

- As soon as Allah rescued Abraham from the fire he did not think twice about making

hijra.

- It is unwise to stay amongst people who hate you for the sake of your deen.

- The story about the sleepers of the cave is all about making hijra out of fear of

persecution.

- Allah told you the story to tell you the importance of hijra.

Allah made mention about the importance of hijrah in surah 4:97.

Veri ly! As for those whom the angels take (in death) while they are wronging

themselves (as they stayed among the disbelievers even though emigration was

obligatory for them), they (angels) say (to them) : "In what (condit ion) were you?"

They reply: "We were weak and oppressed on earth." They (angels) say: "Was not the

earth of Allah spacious enough for you to emigrate therein?" Such men will f ind their

abode in Hell - What an evil destination!

(An-Nisa 4:97)

- They did not make hijra even though the earth was made wide for them.

- They rather stay among the kuffar.

142

Page 143: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

- If you stay in places like Austral ia, the UK and the USA, they are going to force you

to apostate.

- They are going to bring in new laws which force you to apostate because the white

kaafir is a dictator and a Satanist.

- Abraham said: ‘I am making hijra and my Lord wil l guide me’.

- He put his tawakkul in Allah.

- He was going to a strange land. He had no family there.

- The seven sleepers of the cave were from rich families in Turkey.

- They made hijrah and put their trust in Allah.

Veri ly! You (O Muhammad SAW) guide not whom you like, but Allah guides whom He

wills. And He knows best those who are the guided.

(Al-Qasas 28:56)

- The above mentioned ayah is clear evidence only Allah can guide.

- Abraham said only Allah can guide him because only Allah can guide.

- He put his trust in Allah to guide him

- Allah revealed this ayah (28:56) regarding Abu Talib.

- There are two types of guidance.

- One is called TAWFEEQ (ALLAH'S GUIDANCE).

- The other is called IRSHAAD (MAN’S GUIDANCE)

- Allah is talking about TAWFEEQ (ALLAH’S GUIDANCE) in the above ayah(28:56).

- When the Prophet said to Ali if Allah should use you to guide one man to Islam it is

better for you than red camels the Prophet was talking about IRSHAAD (MAN'S

GUIDANCE).

143

Page 144: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

Sahl bin Sa`d (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Messenger of Allah

(sal lal laahu ’alayhi wa sallam) said on the day of the Khaibar Battle, "I will give this

banner to a person at whose hands Allah will grant victory; a man who loves Allah

and His Messenger (sal lal laahu ’alayhi wa sallam), and Allah and His Messenger love

him also.' '

The people spent the night thinking as to whom it would be given. When it was

morning, the people hastened to Messenger of Allah (sal lal laahu ’alayhi wa sallam).

Every one of them was hoping that the banner would be given to him. He (the Prophet

(sal lal laahu ’alayhi wa sallam)) asked, "Where is `Ali bin Abu Talib?' ' They said: "O

Messenger of Allah! His eyes are sore.' '

He (sallallaahu ’alayhi wa sallam) then sent for him and when he came, Messenger of

Allah (sal lal laahu ’alayhi wa sallam) applied his saliva to his eyes and supplicated.

`Ali (May Allah be pleased with him) recovered as if he had no ailment at all. He

(sallal laahu ’alayhi wa sallam) conferred upon him the banner. `Ali (May Allah be

pleased with him) said: ``O Messenger of Allah, shall I f ight against them until they

are like us?''

Thereupon he (the Prophet (sallallaahu ’alayhi wa sallam)) said, "Advance cautiously

until you reach their open places; thereafter, invite them to Islam and inform them

what is obligatory for them from the Rights of Allah, for, by Allah, if Allah guides even

one person through you that is better for you than possessing a whole lot of red

camels".

[Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

- Allah spoke about IRSHAAD (A MAN GUIDING ANOTHER MAN TO ISLAM) in Surah

42:52.

And thus We have sent to you (O Muhammad SAW) Ruhan (an Inspirat ion, and a

Mercy) of Our Command. You knew not what is the Book, nor what is Faith? But We

have made it (this Qur'an) a light wherewith We guide whosoever of Our slaves We

will. And verily, you (O Muhammad SAW) are indeed guiding (mankind) to the Straight

Path (i.e. Allah's religion of Islamic Monotheism).

(Ash-Shura 42:52)

- Allah said Muhammad (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) is guiding people to the straight path in the above ayah

144

Page 145: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

(42:52).

- The guidance mentioned by Allah here is man guiding man. This guidance is called

IRSHAAD.

- A kaafir who doesn't understand TAFSEER and AQEEDAH wil l read the Quran and

say he has found a contradict ion in the Quran.

- He will say the contradiction is that in one verse it says only Allah can guide and in

another verse it says Muhammad (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) is guiding people to the straight path.

- This is because he doesn't know there are two types of guidance: TAWFEEQ and

IRSHAAD.

- It is because of this reason when Umar was the caliph if he found a kaafir giving

tafseer he would flog him.

- How can a kaafir give tafseer?

- He doesn't have the tools to give tafseer.

-The lesson you learn from ayah 99 of Surah Saffat is that HIJRA becomes

NECESSARY when you are persecuted in the land.

- The kaafirs are Satanists. They are going to lock you in prison and throw away the

key.

- Abraham made hijrah straight away after Allah saved him from the fire.

- Look at Abu Nusaybah. He was locked up in prison after giving an interview.

- If you live among the kaafirs they are going to lock you up.

- Anytime the white man asks you to come for an interview he wants to lock you up.

- They used the camera to give Hugo Chavez cancer.

- They are going to use radiation in the video camera to give you cancer.

THE THREE PREREQUISITES FOR GUIDANCE:

145

Page 146: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

1) YOUR AQEEDAH HAS TO BE RIGHT

- AQEEDAH is the CREED; it is your belief system.

- Abu Hanifah said the right Aqeedah is Fiqh al Akbar (the greatest f iqh)

http://ebookbrowse.com/al- f iqh-akbar-english-pdf-d15432128

2) YOUR FIQH HAS TO BE RIGHT

- The FIQH is called the ISLAMIC JURISPRUDENCE.

- We cannot separate the aqeedah from the fiqh because the aqeedah influences the

fiqh.

- The aqeedah influences the shariah.

- When Ma'moon was the caliph he used to beat people who didn't believe the Quran

was created.

-He was a Mutazil i te and he believed the Quran was created.

- This is our evidence that your aqeedah influences your sharia.

- He even beat Ahmad ibn Hanbal.

3) YOUR MANHAJ HAS TO BE RIGHT

- MANHAJ means your METHODOLOGY of establishing the Islamic State.

- Allah disgraced Ikhwaanul Muslimeen in Egypt because their manhaj was wrong.

- Their manhaj was to use democracy which is the greatest shirk to establish Islam.

- You can't use shirk to establish Islam. It is not the manhaj of the Prophet.

- You have to use the haq to establish Islam not bautil.

- The most important thing in our l ife is guidance and because of that we beg Allah for

146

Page 147: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

guidance 17 times a day in surah Fatiha.

Guide us to the Straight Way. The Way of those on whom You have bestowed Your

Grace, not (the way) of those who earned Your Anger (such as the Jews), nor of

those who went astray (such as the Christ ians)

(Al-Fatihah 1:6-7)

- Without guidance we shall fail our examination inside the grave.

-The angels wil l ask us the three questions: Who is your Lord, who is your Prophet

and what is your religion?

- Only a Muslim can answer these 3 questions in the grave and because of that Allah

said

By Al- 'Asr (the time). Verily! Man is in loss, Except those who believe (in Islamic

Monotheism) and do righteous good deeds, and recommend one another to the truth

(i.e. order one another to perform all kinds of good deeds (Al-Ma'ruf)which Allah has

ordained, and abstain from all kinds of sins and evil deeds (Al-Munkar)which Allah

has forbidden), and recommend one another to patience (for the sufferings, harms,

and injuries which one may encounter in Allah's Cause during preaching His religion

of Islamic Monotheism or Jihad, etc.).

(Al- 'Asr 103:1-3)

- Allah revealed this surah because only a believer can pass the exam in the grave.

-This is because one of the laws of nature says:‘HE WHO FAILS TO PREPARE HAS

GOT TO BE PREPARED TO FAIL’

- Allah told us in the Quran the ult imate humil iation wil l be for those who rebelled

against Allah and His Rasul.

Those who oppose Allah and His Messenger (Muhammad SAW), they wil l be among

the lowest (most humiliated).

(Al-Mujadilah 58:20)

- In order for you to be guided you have to be sincere.

147

Page 148: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

- Allah told you in the Quran he doesn't guide liars.

The evidence for this is surah 39:3.

Surely, the religion (i.e. the worship and the obedience) is for Allah only. And those

who take Auliya' (protectors and helpers) besides Him (say) : "We worship them only

that they may bring us near to Allah." Verily, Allah wil l judge between them

concerning that wherein they differ. Truly, Allah guides not him who is a liar, and a

disbeliever.

(Az-Zumar 39:3)

- When you are giving dawah, you should only give dawah to people who are

interested.

- You are not allowed to waste time with those who are not interested in the guidance

because Allah said to give the admonit ion if it benefits the person.

So remind, if the reminder should benefit

(Al-A’la 87:9) [Sahih International]

- You are not allowed to give dawah to those who are not interested because you are

wasting your t ime.

- They’re not worth a dime.

- You’re throwing away silver and gold to the swine.

- If a person is not guided in the dunya it is his fault because Allah showed us the two

highways.

-Allah showed us the highway that leads to the Paradise and the highway that leads

to the Hellf ire.

Have We not made for him a pair of eyes and a tongue and a pair of l ips and a tongue

and a pair of l ips? And shown him the two ways (good and evil)? But he has made no

effort to pass on the path that is steep.

148

Page 149: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

(Al-Balad 90:8-11)

- You did not choose the steep road that takes you to the Paradise.

- You chose the flat road that takes you to the hellf ire l ike a lamb to the slaughter.

AYAH 100:

"My Lord! Grant me (offspring) from the righteous."

(As-Saffat 37:100)

- After Abraham made hijrah he asked for pious offspring.

- This is the first thing he did when he made hijrah.

- Allah told us in the Quran, asking for pious offspring is a dua every real Muslim

makes.

And those who say: "Our Lord! Bestow on us from our wives and our offspring who

will be the comfort of our eyes, and make us leaders for the Muttaqun" (pious - see

V.2:2 and the footnote of V.3:164)."

(Al-Furqan 25:74)

- If you are a Muslim woman and you are not broody something is wrong with you.

- To make a dua for righteous wives and offspring is the dua of every real Muslim.

- This is why Abraham made that dua.

'Abdullah bin Abu Qatadah narrated that his father said: "The Messenger of Allah

said: 'The best things that a man can leave behind are three: A righteous son who will

pray for him, ongoing charity whose reward wil l reach him, and knowledge which is

acted upon after his death.'"

[Ibn Majah]

- The reason why the real Muslims make this dua is because of the hadith of the

Prophet.

149

Page 150: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

Abu Huraira (RA) reported: The Messenger of Allah (SAW) said, "When a man dies,

his deeds come to an end, except for three: (1) A continuous charity, (2) knowledge

by which people derive benefit, (3) pious son who prays for him."

[Adab al-Mufrad al-Bukhari No. 38, Muslim (3/1255) No. 1631, Abu Dawud (3/117) No.

2880, al-Nasa' i (6/251) No. 3651, Tirmidhi (3/660) No. 1376, al-Darime (1/148) No.

559, Ahmad (2/372) No. 8831]

- We are not allowed to take it for granted that we wil l have pious wives and offspring.

- This is because Allah told us in the Quran some wives and some offspring can be

our enemies.

O you who believe! Veri ly, among your wives and your children there are enemies for

you (i.e. may stop you from the obedience of Allah), therefore beware of them! But if

you pardon (them) and overlook, and forgive (their faults), then veri ly, Allah is Oft-

Forgiving, Most Merciful.

(At-Taghabun 64:14)

AYAH 101:

So We gave him the glad tidings of a forbearing boy.

(As-Saffat 37:101)

- Allah said in ayah 101 the boy is HALEEM.

- Haleem means slow to anger.

- Haleem means forbearing.

-The boy mentioned is Ismael because he was the first child of Abraham.

- Abraham was 86 when he was born.

‘And this son is Ishmael for he is the first son whose good news was brought to

Abraham. He is older than Isaac according to Muslims and ahl al-kitâb (i.e., the

150

Page 151: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

People of the Book) too. It is even said in their Scripture that Ishmael was born when

Abraham was 86 years old and Isaac was born when Abraham was 99’.

[Reported by Ibn Kathir]

AYAH 102:

And, when he (his son) was old enough to walk with him, he said: "O my son! I have

seen in a dream that I am slaughtering you (offer you in sacrif ice to Allah), so look

what you think!" He said: "O my father! Do that which you are commanded, Insha'

Allah (if Allah wil l), you shall f ind me of As-Sabirin (the patient ones, etc.)."

(As-Saffat 37:102)

- Allah showed Abraham in a vision sacrif icing his son.

- The dream of a prophet is not l ike our dreams. The dream of a prophet is revelation.

- He had to act on the dream and offer his son as a human sacrif ice.

- The Prophet saw himself and the sahabas making umrah before they made umrah

and they did make umrah.

Allah spoke about it in surah 48:27.

Indeed Allah shall fulf i l the true vision which He showed to His Messenger (SAW) [i.e.

the Prophet SAW a dream that he has entered Makkah along with his companions,

having their (head) hair shaved and cut short] in very truth. Certainly, you shall enter

AlMasjidalHaram; if Allah wil ls, secure, (some) having your heads shaved, and (some)

having your head hair cut short, having no fear. He knew what you knew not, and He

granted besides that a near victory.

(Al-Fath 48:27)

- This proves that whenever a prophet sees a dream it has to come to pass.

- The dream of Abraham was a commandment of Allah to test his obedience and

imaan.

AYAH 103:

151

Page 152: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

Then, when they had both submitted themselves (to the Will of Allah), and he had laid

him prostrate on his forehead (or on the side of his forehead for slaughtering);

(As-Saffat 37:103)

- The scholars of Islam say Abraham laid his son on his forehead to slaughter him

because he did not want to see his facial expression.

- That would be too diff icult for Abraham.

- Abraham stil l had human instincts.

- This is why he didn't want to see the face of his son when he was slaughtering him.

- He stil l had natural instincts even though he was a prophet.

- The Prophet cried when his son died.

Narrated By Anas bin Malik: We went with Allah's Apostle (p.b.u.h) to the blacksmith

Abu Saif, and he was the husband of the wet-nurse of Ibrahim (the son of the

Prophet). Allah's Apostle took Ibrahim and kissed him and smelled him and later we

entered Abu Saif 's house and at that t ime Ibrahim was in his last breaths, and the

eyes of Allah's Apostle (p.b.u.h) started shedding tears. 'Abdur Rahman bin 'Auf said,

"O Allah's Apostle, even you are weeping!" He said, "O Ibn 'Auf, this is mercy." Then

he wept more and said, "The eyes are shedding tears and the heart is grieved, and

we wil l not say except what pleases our Lord, O Ibrahim ! Indeed we are grieved by

your separation."

[Sahih Bukhari (2/83) No. 1303]

AYAH 104:

And We called out to him: "O Abraham!

(As-Saffat 37:104)

AYAH 105:

You have fulf i l led the dream (vision)!" Verily! Thus do We reward the Muhsinun (good-

doers - see V.2:112).

152

Page 153: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

(As-Saffat 37:105)

- When a teacher gives you an exam and you get 100%, the teacher says you passed

the test with f lying colours.

- Abraham passed the test with FLYING COLOURS because he acted on the dream by

trying to sacrif ice his son.

-Ismael also passed the test because he said to his father to do what Allah has

commanded him to do.

- Both Abraham and Ismael SURRENDERED to the wil l of Allah.

AYAH 106:

Veri ly, that indeed was a manifest trial

(As-Saffat 37:106)

- The Prophet said when Allah loves you he tests you.

The Prophet (pbuh) said, “When Allah loves a servant, He tests him,”

[Tirmidhi]

- The more Allah loves you the harder the test.

- Those who are tested the strongest will be the prophets and the messengers.

It was narrated from Mus’ab bin Sa’d that his father, Sa’d bin Abu Waqqas, said: “I

said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, which people are most severely tested?’ He said: ‘The

Prophets, then the next best and the next best. A person is tested according to his

rel igious commitment. If he is steadfast in his religious commitment, he will be tested

more severely, and if he is frai l in his religious commitment, his test will be according

to his commitment. Trials wil l continue to aff l ict a person until they leave him walking

on the earth with no sin on him.’”

[Sunan Ibn Majah]

153

Page 154: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

- Abraham and his son passed the test.

- The sacrif icial son is Ismael.

- This is because Allah said to Abraham to sacrif ice his only son.

- Ishaaq was born 13 years later when Abraham was 99 years old.

AYAH 107:

And We ransomed him with a great sacrif ice (i.e. - a ram);

(As-Saffat 37:107)

- When Abraham was going to sacrif ice his son the shaitaan came crying on three

occasions and Abraham stoned the shaitaan with 7 pebbles.

- The shaitaan was stoned by Abraham on 3 occasions with 7 pebbles so he stoned

the shaitaan with 21 pebbles in total.

- When we go to hajj we do the same thing, an enactment of what Abraham did.

AYAH 108:

And We left for him (a goodly remembrance) among generations (to come) in later

t imes.

(As-Saffat 37:108)

- Three religions look up to Abraham: Islam, Christianity and Judaism. They are called

the Abrahamic Faiths.

-The story of Abraham and Ismael will be in the hearts of all generations until

Judgement Day.

- We sacrif ice animals on Eid al Adha to enact what Abraham did when he was about

to sacrif ice his only son Ismael.

- Allah told Abraham not to sacrif ice Ismael but to sacrif ice a kabsh (ram) instead

because Abraham passed the test.

154

Page 155: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

AYAH 109:

Salamun (peace) be upon Ibrahim (Abraham)!"

(As-Saffat 37:109)

Abu Huraira (RA) reported that Allah’s Messenger (SAW) said, “By Him in Whose

Hand is my life, you will not enter Paradise ti l l you believe, and you will not believe

ti l l you love each other. Shall I not guide you to something which if you do, you wil l

love each other? Give currency to salaam between yourselves.”

[Sahih Muslim (1/74) No. 54, Sunan Abu Dawud (4/350) No. 5193, Sunan Tirmidhi

(5/52) 2688, Sunan Ibn Majah (1/47) No. 68, Musnad Ahmad (2/477) No. 10180, al-

Adab al-Mufrad al-Bukhari (980)]

- Allah wil l say assalamu alaikum to the people when they enter the Paradise on the

day of judgement.

The evidence for this is surah 36:58.

(It wil l be said to them) : Salamun (peace be on you), a Word from the Lord (Allah),

Most Merciful.

(Ya-Sin 36:58)

AYAH 110:

Thus indeed do We reward the Muhsinun.

(As-Saffat 37:110)

- There are three types of believers: muslimum, muminun and muhsinun.

- The highest level is muhsinun and Abraham belonged to that level.

AYAH 111:

Veri ly, he was one of Our believing slaves.

155

Page 156: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

(As-Saffat 37:111)

- In Islam we have 5 strong willed prophets.

- They were Noah, Abraham, Jesus, Moses and Muhammad (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص).

- When the Prophet went on the journey al israa wal miraaj he saw Abraham in the

seventh heaven.

- Abraham was surrounded with a lot of children.

- The Prophet asked Jibreel who the children were with Abraham

- Jibreel said the children surrounding Abraham were all the children who died before

puberty.

- When the Prophet told the sahabas about this incident the sahabas asked: "Even

the children of the kuffaar?"

-The Prophet said "Yes, even the children of the kuffaar".

- They will all be in Paradise with Abraham as long as they died before reaching

puberty.

11. TAFSEER SURAH SAFFAAT

THE STORY OF ISHAAQ AND YAQUB

8 July 2013 (Morning Dars)

AYAH 112:

And We gave him the glad tidings of Ishaque (Isaac) a Prophet from the righteous.

(As-Saffat 37:112)

- Ishaaq was one of the sons of Abraham.

- He was born when Abraham was 99 years old.

- Ismael was the first born son of Abraham and he was born when Abraham was 86

years old.

- Between Ishaaq and Ismael was 13 years.

- Therefore it is impossible for Ishaaq to be the sacrif icial son.

- The sacrif icial son was Ismael.

- The foundation of Judaism and Christianity is l ies.

- The Jews lied and said the sacrif icial son is Ishaaq because Ishaaq is their

grandfather.

- They said this l ie out of jealousy of the Arabs.

- The sacrif icial son without a shadow of a doubt was Ismael and not Ishaaq because

Ishaaq was born 13 years after Ismael.

- Allah said to Abraham to sacrif ice his one and only son.

- Ismael is the grandfather of the Arabs.

157

THE STORY OF ISHAAQ AND JACOB

The Quran does not give details of Isaac's l ife (pbuh), but reliable Quranic

commentators mentioned that when Abraham felt that his l ife was drawing to a close,

he wished to see Isaac married. He did not want Isaac to marry one of the

Canaanites, who were pagans, so he sent a trustworthy servant to Haran in Iraq to

choose a bride for Isaac. The servant's choice fell upon Rebekah Bint Bethuel, Ibn

Nahor, who was a brother of Abraham. Isaac married her and she gave birth to a set

of twins, Esau (Al Eis) and Jacob (Yaqub).

I l l feelings developed between the two brothers when they grew into manhood. Esau

disl iked the fact that Jacob was favored by his father and by Allah with prophethood.

This i l l feeling became so serious that Esau threatened to kil l his brother. Fearing for

his l ife, Jacob fled the country.

The People of the Book said that when Isaac was forty years old, he married

Rebekah, Bint Bethuel, during his father's l ife. They said she was sterile, so Isaac

prayed to Allah and then she became pregnant. She gave birth to twin boys. The first

one was called Esau whom the Arabs called Al-Eis. He became the father of Rum.

The second one was called Jacob, which means Isreal, (belonging to the people of

Israel).

The People of the Book claimed that when Isaac (pbuh) grew old and his eye sight

had weakened, he had a desire for food, so he asked his son Esau to go hunting and

bring him some cooked game. Esau asked him to bless the food and pray for him.

Esau, a hunter, went out to get his father the meat. Rebekah, overhearing this,

ordered her son Jacob to slaughter two goats of his best f lock and cook them as his

father l iked and bring it to him before his brother returned. She dressed Jacob in his

brother's clothes and put goat skin on his arms and neck, for Esau was hairy while

Jacob was not. When he approached his father with the food, his father asked: 'Who

are you?' Jacob answered: 'I am your son.' When his father f inished eating, he prayed

for his son to be the more blessed brother and to prevail over them and all people,

and for Allah to sustain him and his children.

When he left his father, his brother Esau, who had carried out his father's command,

entered. Isaac asked him: "What is this my son?" He answered: "This is the food you

like." Isaac asked: "Did you bring it an hour ago and ask me to pray for you?" Esau

said: "No, I swear I did not," and he knew his brother had preceded him in this matter

and he was sick at heart.

158

Page 159: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

The People of the Book said Esau threatened to kil l his brother when their father was

dead. They also said that he asked his father to pray for him that Allah make the

earth good for his offspring and multiply his sustenance and fruits.

When their mother knew that Esau threatened his brother Jacob, she commanded her

son Jacob to go to her brother Laban in the land of Haran and abide with him for a

t ime until his brother's anger had abated, and to marry one of the Laban's daughters.

she told her husband Isaac to command him with that advice and pray for him, and he

did.

Jacob (pbuh) left his family, when night came he found a place to rest. He took a

stone and put it under his head and slept. He dreamed of a ladder from heaven to

earth. Angels were ascending and descending and the Lord addressed him and said

to him; "I will bless you and your offspring and make this land for you and for those

who come after you."

When he awoke he felt joyful from what he had seen in his dream and vowed, for

Allah's sake that if he returned to his family safely, he would build here a temple for

Allah the Almighty. He also vowed to give one tenth of his property for the sake of

Allah. He poured oil on the stone so as to recognize it and called the place "Ayle's

House" (Bethel), which means "House of Allah". It was to be the location of Jerusalem

later.

The People of the Book also said that when Jacob came to his maternal uncle in the

land of Haran, his uncle had two daughters. The elder one was called Leah (Lia) and

the younger one was Rachel (Rahil). The latter was the better and lovelier of the two.

His uncle agreed to marry his daughter to him on the condition that Jacob pasture his

sheep for seven years.

After a period of t ime, his uncle prepared a feast and gathered people for the

wedding. He married Leah, his elder daughter, to him at night. She was weak-sighted

and ugly. When morning came, Jacob discovered she was Leah and he complained to

his uncle. "You deceived me; I was engaged to Rachel and you married me to Leah."

His uncle said: "It is not our tradit ion to marry the younger daughter before the elder

daughter. However, if you love her sister, work another seven years and I wil l marry

you to both of them."

Jacob worked for seven years and then married Rachel. It was acceptable in their

t ime, as described in the Torah, for a man to marry two sisters. Laban gave a female

159

Page 160: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

slave to each daughter. Leah's slave was called Zilpah and Rachel's slave was called

Bilha.

Almighty Allah compensated Leah's weakness by giving her sons. The first one was

named Rueben (Robel), after whom there were Simon (Shamun), Levi (Lawi), and

Judah (Yahudh). Rachel felt jealous of Leah's having sons, as she was barren. She

gave her slave Bilha to her husband and he had relat ions with her until she became

pregnant. She gave birth to a son and named him Naphtali. Leah was vexed that

Rachel's slave had given birth to a son, so she in turn gave her slave Zilpah to Jacob

(pbuh), Zi lpah gave birth to two sons, Gad and Asher. Then Leah got pregnant and

gave birth to her f ifth son, Issaacher, and later she gave birth to a sixth son Zebulun.

After this Leah gave birth to a daughter named Dinah. Thus, Leah had seven sons

from Jacob.

Then Rachel prayed to Allah to give her a son from Jacob. Allah heard her call and

responded to her prayer. She gave birth to a son, great, honorable, and beautiful. She

named him Joseph (Yusuf). All of this happened when they were in the land of Haran

and Jacob (pbuh) was pasturing his uncle's sheep, which he did for a period of twenty

years.

Jacob then asked his uncle Laban to let him go and visit his family. His uncle said to

him: "I have been blessed because of you; ask for whatever money you need." Jacob

said: "Give me each spotted and speckled goat born this year and each black lamb."

But at Laban's command his sons removed their father's goat that were striped,

spotted or speckled, and the black lambs, lest others should be born with those traits.

They walked for three days with their father's goats and sheep while Jacob tended the

remaining flock.

The People of the Book said that Jacob (pbuh) took fresh rods of poplar, almond, and

plane. He peeled streaks in them and cast them into the water through for the goats

to look at. The young inside their abdomens were terrif ied and moved and they were

born striped, spotted or speckled. When the sheep were breeding, he set their faces

towards the black sheep in Laban's f lock and put the rods among them. Their lambs

were born black. This was considered an example of supernatural powers, a miracle.

Jacob had many goats, sheep, beast and slaves. His uncle and his sons faces

changed as if they (the sheep and goats) had been stolen from them.

Allah the Almighty inspired Jacob to return to the country of his father and people,

and He promised to stand by him. Jacob told his family that, and they responded and

160

Page 161: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

obeyed him. Jacob did not tell Laban of his plans, however, and left without bidding

farewell.

Upon leaving, Rachel stole her father's idols. After Jacob and his people had fled for

his country, Laban and his people followed them. When Laban met with Jacob, he

blamed him for leaving him without his knowledge. He would have liked to know so

that he could have made them leave with celebrat ion and joy, with drums and songs,

and so that he could have bidden his daughters and sons farewell. And why have they

taken his idols with them?

Jacob had no knowledge of his idols, so he denied that had taken them from him.

Then Laban entered the tents of his daughters and slaves to search, but he found

nothing, for Rachel had put the idols in the camel saddle under her. She did not get

up, apologizing that she had her menses. Thus, he could not perceive what they had

done.

Then they sat on a hil l called Galeed and made a covenant there. Jacob would not i l l-

treat Laban's daughters nor marry others. Neither Laban nor Jacob would pass the hil l

into the other's country. They cooked food and their people ate with them. Each bade

the other farewell as they departed, each returning to his own country.

When Jacob approached the land of Seir, the angels greeted him. He sent a

messenger ahead with greetings to his brother Esau, asking forgiveness and

humbling himself before him. The messenger returned greetings and told Jacob that

Esau was riding towards him with four hundred men. This made Jacob afraid and he

entreated and prayed to Allah Almighty. He prostrated in humiliat ion and asked Him to

fulf i l l His promise which He had made before. He asked Him to stop the evil of his

brother Esau. then Jacob (pbuh) prepared a great present for his brother: two

hundred female goats and twenty male goats, two hundred ewes and twenty rams,

and thirty milch camels, forty cows and two bulls, twenty female donkeys and ten

male donkeys.

He commanded his slaves to take the animals, each drove by itself , and pass on

ahead of him with a space between the droves. He instructed them: "When you meet

my brother Esau he will ask you, 'to whom do you belong? Where are you going?' you

shall say, 'they belong to your servant Jacob; they are a present to my master Esau.

Moreover, he is behind us."Jacob stayed behind with his two wives, his slaves and his

children for two nights, then continued walking by night and resting by day.

161

Page 162: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

When the dawn of the second day came one of the angels appeared in the shape of a

man. Jacob began to wrest le with him. They were neck and neck until the angel

injured his thigh and Jacob became lame. When the day was breaking, the angel said

to him: 'What is your name?' He answered: 'Jacob.' The angel said: "After today you

shall not be called anything but Israel." Jacob asked: "Who are you? What is your

name?" He vanished. Then Jacob knew that he was one of the angels. Jacob was

lame, and for this reason the children of Israel do not eat the thigh muscle on the hip

socket.

Jacob raised his eyes and saw his brother Esau coming. Jacob prostrated seven

times before him for it was their salutation in that t ime. It was lawful for them just as

the angels had prostration in salutation to Adam.

When Esau saw him, he ran towards him, embraced and kissed him and wept. When

Esau raised his eyes and saw the women and children he asked: "Who are these with

you?" Jacob answered: "Those whom Allah has given me, your servant." Leah,

Rachel, their slaves, and all the children approached and prostrated before him.

Jacob asked Esau to accept his gift and insisted until he did so.

Esau returned and went in advance before him. Jacob and his family followed with the

flocks and herds and slaves to the mountains (Seir).

When he came to Succoth (Sahur), he built a house for himself and shades for his

beasts. Then he passed by Jerusalem, the vil lage of Shechem, and camped before

the vil lage. He bought a farm from Shcehm Ibn Hamor with one hundred goats and

built an altar, which he called Ayl, as Allah commanded him. He built the altar where

Jerusalem stands today and later Solomon son of David (pbuh) rebuil t it . It is in the

place of the stone which he had earl ier anointed with oil as was mentioned before.

The people of the book tell a story of Dinah, daughter of Jacob and Leah. Shechem

Ibn Hamor seized her and lay with her by force. Then he asked her father and

brothers to let him marry her. Her brothers said: "Circumcise all of you, and we will

give our daughters to you, and we wil l take your daughters for ourselves; but we do

not marry with uncircumcised people." They (the men of the city) agreed to that, and

all of them were circumcised. When the third day came, the pain from the

circumcision had increased; Jacob's sons approached and kil led them til l the last one.

They kil led Shchem and his father for the evil they had committed against them and

for their worship of idols. That is why Jacob's sons kil led them and seized their money

as spoils.

162

Page 163: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

Then Rachel got pregnant and gave birth to a son, Benjamin, but she had a hard

labour and died after delivery. Jacob buried her in Ephrath (afrath). The tomb of

Rachel is there ti l l the present day. Jacob's sons were twelve men. From Leah there

were Rueben (Robil), Simon (Shamun), Levi (Lawi), Judah (Yahudh), Issachar

(isakher), and Zebulun (Zablun). From Rachel there were Joseph (Yusuf) (pbuh) and

Benjamin. From Rachel's slave there were Dan and Naphtali (Neftali), and from

Leah's slave there were Gad and Asher.

Jacob came to his father Isaac and settled with him in the vil lage of Hebron which lies

in the land of Canaan where Abraham had lived. Then Isaac fell i l l and died when he

was one hundred eighty years old. His sons Esau and Jacob buried him with his

father Abraham Al Khalil in a cave which he had bought. It was said that Abraham

died at the age of one hundred seventy f ive.

Allah the Almighty declared in the Glorious Quran:

And who turns away from the religion of Abraham (Islamic Monotheism) except him

who befools himself? Truly, We chose him in this world and veri ly, in the Hereafter he

will be among the righteous.

(Al-Baqarah 2:130)

When his Lord said to him: "Submit (be a Muslim)!" He said: "I have submitted myself

(as a Muslim) to the Lord of the Alamin (mankind, j inn and all that exists)."

(Al-Baqarah 2:131)

And this (submission to Allah, Islam) was enjoined by Abraham upon his sons and by

Jacob, (saying): "O my sons! Allah has chosen for you the true religion, then die not

except in the Faith of Islam (as Muslims -- Islamic Monotheism)."

(Al-Baqarah 2:132)

Or were you witnesses when death approached Jacob? When he said unto his sons:

"What wil l you worship after me?" They said: "We shall worship you (I lah (God - Allah)

the Ilah (God) of your fathers, Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, One Ilah (God), and to Him

we submit (in Islam)."

(Al-Baqarah 2:133)

163

Page 164: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

That was a nation who had passed away. They shall receive the reward of what they

earned and you of what you earn. And you will not be asked of what they used to do.

(Al-Baqarah 2:134)

They say: "Be Jews or Christ ians, and then you will be guided." Say (to them O

Muhammad): "Nay (we follow) only the religion of Abraham, Hanifan (Islamic

monotheism, i.e. to worship none but Allah Alone, and he was not of the Al

Mushrikeen (those who worshipped others along with Allah)."

(Al-Baqarah 2:135)

Say (O Muslims): "We believe in Allah and that which has been sent down to us and

that which had been sent down to Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob and to Al Asbat

(the twelve sons of Jacob), and that which has been given to Moses and Jesus and

that which has been given to the Prophets from their Lord. We make no distinction

between any of them, and to Him we have submitted (in Islam)."

(Al-Baqarah 2:136)

So if they believe in the like of that which you believe, then they are rightly guided,

but if they turn away, then they are only in opposit ion. So, Allah, will suffice you

against them. He is the All Hearer, the All Knower.

(Al-Baqarah 2:137)

(Our Sibghah, religion is) the Sibghah (rel igion) of Allah (Islam) and which Sibghah

(religion) can be better than Allah's. We are His worshippers.

(Al-Baqarah 2:138)

Say (O Muhammad, to the Jews and Christ ians): "Dispute you with us about Allah

while He is our Lord and your Lord? And we are to be rewarded for our deeds and you

for your deeds. We are sincere to Him in worship and obedience (i.e., we worship Him

Alone and none else, and we obey His Orders)."

(Al-Baqarah 2:139)

164

Page 165: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

Or say you that Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, and Al Asbat (the twelve sons of

Jacob) were Jews or Christ ians? Say: "Do you know better or does Allah know

better....that they all were Muslims? And who is more unjust than he who conceals the

testimony (to believe in the Prophet Muhammad, when he comes written in their

books) he has from Allah? Allah is not unaware of what you do."

(Al-Baqarah 2:140)

In another surah Almighty Allah declared:

O People of the Scripture (Jews and Christ ians)! Why do you dispute about Abraham,

while the Torah and the Gospel were not revealed ti l l after him? Have you then no

sense?

(Aali Imran 3:65)

Veri ly, you are those who have disputed about that of which you have no knowledge.

Why do then dispute concerning that which you have no knowledge? It is Allah Who

knows, and you know not.

(Aali Imran 3:66)

Abraham was neither a Jew nor a Christian, but he was a true Muslim Hanifan

(Islamic Monotheism), to worship none but Allah Alone and he was not of the

polytheists (he joined none in worship with Allah).

(Aali Imran 3:67)

Veri ly, among mankind who have the best claim to Abraham are those who followed

him, and this Prophet (Muhammad) and those who have believed (Muslims). And Allah

is the Wali (Protector and Helper) of the believers.

(Aali Imran 3:68)

Allah the Exalted also affirmed:

Then verily! Your Lord for those who do evil (commit sins and are disobedient to

Allah) in ignorance and afterward repent and do righteous deeds, veri ly, your Lord

thereafter to such is Oft Forgiving, Most Merciful.

165

Page 166: Tafsir Qur'an Surah 037.Saffaat

(An-Nahl 16:119)

Veri ly, Abraham was an Ummah (a leader having all the good righteous qualit ies or a

nation), obedient to Allah, Hanifan (to worship none but Allah), and he was not one of

those who were Al Mushrikeen (polytheists, idolaters, disbeliveers in the Oneness of

Allah and those who joined partners with Allah).

(An-Nahl 16:120)

He was thankful for His (Allah's) Graces. He (Allah) chose him (as an intimate friend)

and guided him to a Straight Path (Islamic Monotheism, neither Judaism nor

Christianity).

(An-Nahl 16:121)

We gave him good in this world and in the Hereafter he shall be of the righteous.

(An-Nahl 16:122)

Then, We have inspired you (O Muhammad saying): "Follow the religion of Abraham

Hanifan (Islamic Monotheism to worship none but Allah) and he was not of the

Mushrikeen (polytheists, pagans, idolaters, disbeliveers in the Oneness of Allah and

His Messenger Muhammad, those who worship others along with Allah or set up rivals

with or partners to Allah)."

(An-Nahl 16:123)
