This seed guide is intended to be an informative tool to facilitate farm managers’ decision-making about the cultivars best suited for the realities of their company .

Each variety was tested by recognized government agencies and by our R&D farm . The test results guided our selection of the cultivars presented in this guide .

Our 2017–2018 edition illustrates, in a pleasant reading style, nearly 70 cultivars and their various characteristics .

New this year: an introduction to our organic seeds . In this guide, you will also find a link to our website showing the cultivars and their availability .

If you need more information as farm managers, feel free to contact our representatives and partners . With their experience, they can easily help you .

Enjoy!

200 g water soluble or 20 kg granular product (treats 40 MT of corn silage or 20 MT of grass silage)Bio-Plus is a unique and natural non corrosive product that combines 3 lactic bacteria and 3 enzymes . The purpose of using an inoculant such as Bio-Plus is to supply homolactic bacteria that are more effective than natural bacteria for converting soluble sugars into lactic acid, and thereby lower pH as quickly as possible .

A HOMOFERMENTATIVE inoculant • Produces only lactic acid • Lowers pH very quickly by preserving all sugars and producing

verylittle heat • Minimizes the loss of dry materials . • Improves the digestion of forage

This is a unique mix of propionic and other buffered organic acids that blend to form a powerful mould inhibitor in TMRs and preserved foods . Its natural lemony flavor enhances the palatability of cattle feed . MOLD-ZAP is non-corrosive and is safe to use in animal feed . It inhibits an extremely broad range of mold species .

Designed to inhibit the growth of mold, MOLD-ZAP: • Reduces the heat caused by mold in TMRs, in coated feed and in

silage exposed to air • Improves savouriness thanks to its natural lemony taste • Improves the quality of ingested feed • Reduces waste in animal feed • Helps reduce losses in animal production

Several plants are used as cover crops on conventional or organic farms . The choice depends on the nature of the soil and the needs of future crops . In

general, most seedlings are produced with legumes such as clover, vetch, phacelia, and peas or brassicas such as mustard and radishes . Grasses such

as buckwheat, rye, and lolium are also used .

But why use cover crops?

• To colonize soil with roots to improve its health and productivity

• To protect soil against erosion

• To allow fertilizer recovery after manure spreading

• To provide future crops with nitrogen supply from legumes

• To enrich the soil with biomass and organic matter

• To improve the soil structure with root systems that help soil decompacting

• To control weeds by competing with them

• To break the cycle of diseases and insects with the introduction of a new crop

The mixture of various species, such as SYN-CO 90 (90% 4010 forage pea and 10% forage radish), SYN-CO 40 (40% 4010 forage pea, 50% fall rye,

and 10% forage radish) or SYN-CO 35 (35% 4010 forage pea, 35% oats, 20% annual ryegrass, 5% phacelia, and 5% forage radish), is also interesting for

these reasons:

• The positive effects and the synergy between the different species

• An implementation that is less dependent on climate and soil types

• The possibility of using more expensive seeds in the mixture

• Greater biodiversity

CEREALS

The cereal varieties distributed by Synagri are well known and positively received . They are tolerant to various environmental

stresses and adapted to your cultivation conditions .

Our exclusive seeds are all subjected to registered tests done by the RGCQ (Réseau Grandes Cultures du Québec), and some

are similarly tested in Ontario . In addition, Synagri is conducting several crop management tests to determine, which is the most

appropriate management for each of our cultivars (wheat, barley, and even oat) to help achieve full potential performance .

Our varieties are based on a foundation of the mutual trust between our producers and our cereal

experts . Their success is our pride!

Note on the nutritional quality on hulless barley:Because it is a hulless grain, hulless barley offers a yield of 10 to 15% less than yhe covered barley . Thus, the fibre content is lower and the digest-ibility increased . Hulless barley has higher dietary energy content than corn, and its protein content is significantly higher than covered barley, close to the protein content of feed wheat .

N .B . The seeding rate for hulless barley has to be increased +/- 10% relative to covered barley .

Facts on Cereal MixturesThe components variation percentage (± 5%) is not necessarily the most important factor in the choice of a mixture. The environmental conditions in the current year determine the development of every component in the mixture . There is a complex relationship between seed characteristics and the environment in which they will compete with one another for space, water, nutriments and light . There are more advantages in growing mixtures in an uncertain farming environment .

Cereal Mixtures with two varieties... To improve the nutritional value of oat

• Protein and energy contribution from the wheat • Curative and fibrous contribution from the oats • Balanced mix in less fertile soils and a better

nutritional yield

• Even greater protein and energy contribution than SEM 610 • Balanced mix that may replace corn, in whole or in part,

in the rations

CORNWith T .A . Seeds, our corn non-GMO supplier, Synagri offer a strong line of conventional hybrids . These corn hybrids are

assessed by the Synagri Research Farm and by various producers, both in Québec and Ontario . The hybrids respond very

well to our climate conditions .

All seed lots are subject to a PCR analysis (% GMO) conducted by Bio-Vet Laboratory . It is provided before the seed is

delivered to all farm producers who request it . This is a great way to ensure that the standards of future buyers are met

because it all begins with the seeds!

Our priority at Synagri is to ensure that the seeds we produce or that our customers purchase comply with the Québec Seeds

Act as finished products .

Several control measures are implemented to meet the quality criteria . A first examination of the crude product is done

by a classifier who determines the screening operations required to remove any undesirable elements . We then proceed

to germination tests . If the product passes all the tests successfully, we move on to conditioning the product . Last, a final

germination test is carried out to validate the effectiveness of our processes .

Synagri has two seed conditioning centres and deals with about ten independent seed screening providers . These screening

providers are required to follow the Synagri specifications which, in addition to following the Québec Seeds Act, consist of

several internal control steps to offer our customers high-quality products .

A good harvest begins with quality seeds .
