T-Shirt Crafts{CREAT IVE INSP IRAT IONS FROM HOBBY LOBBY®}free

Taking t-shirts from the closet to

the craft room.

T-shirt yarn: Cut a shirt under the arms, and cut off the bottom hem. Then cut the shirt into a spiral so it’s one continuous piece. Roll it into a ball—and it’s ready to be crocheted, knitted, woven or used in any way you can dream up.

Black: Cut slits in sleeves, and knot a strip of t-shirt material through slits to gather. White: Cut slits in back, and secure bow shapes with strips of t-shirt material. Talk about cutting-edge fashion…

The trick? The black-and-white accents came from a scarf. The treat? You can copy our trick with some basic sewing know-how. (In a nutshell, cut out the sides of a tee, and sew a piece of the scarf to each side.)

Leftover t-shirt strips make great accessories too. Try braiding coordinating colors into

simple headbands—and add jewelry components for extra wow.

Take a t-shirt from loungewear to workwear while you catch up on your favorite TV drama. Cut the front down the middle, and sew gathered lace trim to each side.

If you have leftover lace, make rosettes and sew them to the collar.

FANCY THAT

DON’T SEE A SHIRT IN THE COLOR YOU’RE LOOKING FOR?

Not to worry. Color a white t-shirt with fabric dye—it comes in neons, metallics and multi-color kits.

5We cut the top seams of the straps so they could be crisscrossed and cut the back down the middle to turn this basic tank into a blinged-out beauty.

CROSS EXAMINE

TIP: Sew a length of ribbon to the straps to add extra length.

No-sew project, coming right up! All you need for this 3D tee are fabric flowers, fabric glue (try a glue pen for easy application) and of course, the t-shirt.

WORK THE BLOOM

NOTE: We cut the neckline into a scoop-neck style.

THAT’S A SCRAP4By now you likely have a pretty sizable stash of t-shirt scraps. Put those extra strips to good use by turning them into jewelry. Weave them through chain, braid them, fringe them—or try all three.

Lace takes tees from so-so to way-to-go. Our favorite ideas: 1) lace trim to accent the sleeves and bottom hem 2) doily-inspired stencils sprayed with fabric dye 3) lace and t-shirt strips turned camera strap (outift ends with split rings to attach to camera).

LACE LIFT8

When your top is this trendy, there’s no need to accessorize. Cut strips in the neckline (we did five, but you can do as many as you like). Then cut ½” strips from another t-shirt, and knot them to the top strip of the first shirt.

FRINGE BENEFITS9

For this fringed stunner, we dyed the bottom of a shirt and cut it into ½” strips from the bottom up. Then we stretched the strips, cut them into 12” lengths, and sewed them to the neckline of another shirt.

T-shirt material curls in on itself when stretched, so it’s ideal for comfy infinity scarves. We made

these by bleaching designs onto wide t-shirt strips and then sewing four pieces together.

PIECE BY PIECE

NOTE: You’ll need two shirts for each scarf.

T-shirts turned totes? You bet! These bags started out as plain white tees—we dyed them and then cut and fringed them into functional carryalls. You’ll need some basic sewing skills for projects like these, but there’s no wrong design.
