Term 4 Week 10 NEWSLETTER 7th December, 2016
Dear Parents,
"Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into
enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order,
confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a
home, a stranger into a friend.” Melody Beattie The Speeches and Letters of application presented by our Year 5 students were excellent.
The panel had a very arduous task appointing the Leaders of the various roles within our
Student Leadership structure. Each student presented an account of their suitability for
the role and their passion for the particular area. The School Captains and House Captains
were voted on by their peers on Thursday and Friday, December 1st
and 2nd and we congratulate them on this significant accomplishment.
They presented well to their audience and they should be delighted
with their achievement. Those students who were unfortunate to miss
out being appointed to a formal leadership role or who did not submit
an application will have opportunities through the SRC and the Japanese Leaders appointed
next year and will assume leadership as our senior students in 2017. They will be given
opportunities through other roles during the year.
Each formal leader will be presented with their Leaders Badge at the
conclusion of our Thanksgiving Mass on Thursday, December 15th at
9.00 a.m.
A reminder that our parents, grandparents, relatives and friends who
have assisted and supported our school throughout the year are
warmly invited to stay for morning tea following
Mass. Many of you have helped in enormous
ways and some have only been able to help in
small ways. We understand time constraints
and work commitments prevent many of you
doing more to assist, however, we are most grateful to you for the
ways you have added to the life of St. Brigid’s School. We hope to see
you all come along so we can say a huge ‘Thank You’.

As a Catholic School we are a community, which celebrates our Catholic Story and traditions and recognise Christ is at the centre of our lives:
“Are you the one who is to come, or must we wait for someone else?” Matthew 11:2-11
This coming Sunday is the Third Week of Advent. The pink or rose
coloured candle of the Advent Wreath is a symbol of the joy we experience
as we await the birth of our Saviour and Lord. We are reminded that God is
always with us, although there are times when we fail to see or recognize
God in our lives. We only have to have eyes to see and ears to hear.
Matthew’s Gospel (11:2-11) tells of John the Baptist’s imprisonment and his
doubt. He sends his disciples to Jesus with this question: “Are you the one who is to come, or
have we got to wait for someone else?” Jesus sends a message of good news, “Go back and
tell John what you see and hear: the blind see again, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed
and the deaf hear, and the dead are raised to life and the Good News is proclaimed to the
poor, and happy is the one who does not lose faith in me.”
These are all signs of God’s presence in our world today. Our challenge is to be good news for
others bringing joy not sadness, love not hate, peace not hatred, turmoil, chaos and unrest,
acceptance not intolerance, justice, integrity and honesty not lies and harmful gossip that
has no truth to it, compassion not apathy and indifference to the needs of others. The
invitation in the Gospel is to be hopeful people and to spread that hope. Be people who do not
lose faith when adversity comes.
When we reach out to others we are bringing joy and the glory of the Lord to our world. We
are reminded during the weeks of Advent to set aside time to reflect on the true meaning of
Christmas and spend time in prayer and reflection so we can truly make Jesus the focus of
our lives.
Lord, there can be so many
distractions for us every day.
Help us to pause to make ourselves ready
to celebrate Your coming at Christmas.
Teach us to appreciate the gifts you bring –
love, joy, happiness, freedom and peace.
Give us the grace to invite you
into our hearts every day.
We ask this through Christ our Lord,
Amen.
Staff Movements Miss Monique Adrichem will be leaving St. Brigid’s at the end of this year to take up a
teaching position at St. Ita’s in Drouin. Monique began her time here as a Graduate teacher
and she has made many valuable contributions to our school over the two years she has been
with us. We wish Monique every success in her future teaching career.
We are pleased to announce we have two new staff joining us next year. They are Miss
Kristina Loritsch and Miss Jennifer McMahon. Both teachers are looking forward to being a
part of St. Brigid’s community and getting to know everyone. I am sure you will make them
feel very welcome. We also welcome back Mrs. Allison Winder from maternity leave.
New addition to the Girl’s Summer Uniform The Uniform Shop Committee has gone to extraordinary lengths to source a quality addition
to the girl’s summer uniform. We are pleased to advise that the Skort is now available for
purchase. Substitutes will be unacceptable as part of the uniform. The Skort is navy blue
with the St. Brigid’s Logo on the front.
The Skort does not replace the girl’s summer dress and may only be purchased as an addition
to the summer dress, should you wish to do so.
Advent Liturgy Following Raising of the Flag and singing the National Anthem on Monday morning we will hold
an Advent Liturgy for the lighting of the third candle on our Advent Wreath. You are most
welcome to join us.
End of the 2016 School Year The conclusion of the 2016 school year for students and the end of Term 4 is Friday,
December 16th. Students will be dismissed at the earlier time of 1.00 p.m. on this day.
Carols Night Our annual Carols Night will be held tonight, December 7th in the grounds of St. Brigid’s
school. The Social and Fundraising team will be cooking sausages and they will be available for
purchase from 5.00 p.m. Serving will be completed by 6.15 p.m. prior to the commencement
of the carols which will start at 6.30 p.m.
Carols Night is an extra curricula activity that is designed to engage our families in the
preparation and celebration of the coming birth of Jesus.
Graduation Year 6 Graduation will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 14th at 7.00 p.m. in our Chapel
and Multipurpose room. This is a distinct year from any other as it is the first year that we
have had students commence in Foundation and graduate in Year 6. This is a special time in
St. Brigid’s short history of 7 years.
Mass of Thanksgiving and Passing on Ceremony Our final Mass for the year will be held on Thursday, December 15th and will be a Mass of
gratitude, praising God and expressing our love and thanksgiving for the school year we have
had together. Mass will begin at 9.00 a.m. and will include a ‘Passing On’ ceremony where our
Year 6 leaders will pass on the student leadership to our Year 5 students. You are all invited
to come along and share in this celebration with us.
Thank You Morning Tea
We value all your contributions, your connectedness to St. Brigid’s and your friendship and
we would like to show our sincere gratitude by hosting a ‘Thank You Morning Tea’ following
our Thanksgiving Mass on Thursday, December 15th. Mass commences at 9.00 a.m.
OVERDUE LIBRARY BOOKS We still have overdue books that have not been returned to the Library. It is necessary to
do a stocktake of our resources at the end of each year and we are in
that process now.
A list of all students who have overdue books has been given to your
child’s teacher. Please ensure that you return them to the library as a matter of urgency.
Books that have not been returned or lost are very costly to our school. Please search
through school bags or around the home for books that belong to our school library. Due to
the large amount still overdue we may have no alternative but to send invoices to you for
books that have not been returned.
If you have lost or misplaced the book, please contact the school office in order that we may
come to some arrangement.
1000 Cranes Last Monday, Rhonda O’Connor from the St. John of God Hospital visited our school to
received 1000 cranes made by the Leaders Bridie, Mia, Mary and Taylah and some volunteers.
When these cranes were made, each of the students prayed for people who are sick or have
struggles in their lives. Thank you to our Japanese Specialist, Meg Sensei and all the
students who were involved for their thoughtfulness and kindness.
Social and Fundraising Last Friday, at our whole school assembly, Fiona Holmes made an address on behalf of the
Social and Fundraising Committee. Fiona described the role of the Committee and more
importantly invited everyone to become a part of this vibrant and active group of parents.
Not only do they raise valuable funds that go directly to benefit our students but they
engage other parents in friendship, support and social activities that contribute to the
community atmosphere we have at St. Brigid’s.
We encourage you all to become a part of the Social and Fundraising Committee and give as
much time as your busy schedules allows. Everyone and every minute of time helps. The first
meeting of the Social and Fundraising Committee for 2017 will be held on Friday, February
17th at 9.00 a.m. in the parents retreat in the Multipurpose room. Come along and meet other
parents who are all striving to continue building St. Brigid’s community while sharing ideas
and making new friends.
Once again, thank to Fiona for speaking to us last Friday. Your contribution was
most welcomed, valued and appreciated by us all.
Uniform Shop
Open Monday & Friday 8.45-9.15am
until December 12th 2015
A massive thank you to all the volunteers over the last 7 years who have run the Uniform
Shop. These volunteers have planned, set up and run the uniform shop for your convenience
since St. Brigid’s opened in 2010. It has been a huge commitment from our mums to open the
uniform shop each Monday and Friday and to be available for fittings and purchases for new
families, especially our Foundation students.
Prior to St. Brigid’s starting in 2010 we set up a Uniform Committee who invested much time
and energy into designing our uniform and ensuring it was one of quality. We are assured the
quality will remain now we have moved our uniform supplies to Noone Imagewear in
Beaconsfield.
The final day for orders from the school uniform shop is December 12th. Noone Imagewear in
Beaconsfield will be our supplier from December 19th 2016.
Commencement of the 2017 School Year All students, including Foundation Students, will commence the 2017 School Year on
Thursday, February 2nd. We will once again, have two assessment days on Tuesday, January
31st and Wednesday, February 1st 2017.
Vinnies Christmas Appeal
Please support the initiative from the Mini Vinnies Team to collect food items and Christmas
treats for Vinnies Christmas Appeal. The Mini Vinnies Team have worked hard this year to
support those who are in a special need in the community. We would like to thank Chelsea O,
Sanvi R and Mr. Dileo for their leadership in this area. We also thank you all in anticipation
of your continued generosity.
Tinnies Vinnies
Christmas Edition
Mini Vinnies are collecting Christmas donations for less fortunate people in our community by
supporting the Vinnies Christmas Appeal.
They already have had a lot of toys donated to children. This means the best way we can help is by bringing in cans of food to make sure they have a Christmas like ours.
All you need to bring in is:
Cans of food and a few Christmas treats like puddings & mince pies
The cans of food should be handed to your homegroup teacher
before the last Thursday of term (December 15) so they can be collected by St Vinnies.
Thank you for your donations

Changes to the Check from 5 December 2016
From 5 December 2016, the department will introduce: New proof of identity (POI) requirements for all Check applicants The list of acceptable POI documents will expand, adding many commonly held cards and documents. Documents will be classified as primary or secondary, replacing the existing 100 point system. A secure electronic verification service for Victorian applicants Victorian applicants will be able to securely verify their identity online. This will save them time at the counter of a participating Australia Post outlet as they will need to only present one acceptable photo identification document to finalise their application.
Electronic identity verification is a secure service. The applicant's details are securely submitted to the Australian Government's Document Verification Service (DVS), which compares the identifying information with available government records. If an applicant is unable to have their identification verified electronically, or they choose not to, in-person verification at Australia Post will still be possible. Applicants will need to present multiple POI documents at the counter to finalise their application. Photo taken free of charge for Victorian applicants Victorian applicants will no longer need to supply their own photo. Australia Post will provide a digital photo free of charge. Interstate applicants The identity verification process for interstate applicants does not change, although from 5 December 2016 interstate applicants will need to present POI documents from the new list. Full details of the forthcoming changes are on the What's new page on our website www.workingwithchildren.vic.gov.au

Brainteaser This week’s brainteaser is:
Father in heaven,
our hearts desire the warmth
of your love
and our minds are searching for the light
of your Word.
Increase our longing for
Christ our Saviour
and give us the strength of grow in love
that the dawn of his coming
may find us rejoicing in his presence and
welcoming the light of his truth.
We ask this in the name of Jesus the
Lord.
Amen.
Best wishes to all.
