These Release Notes contain important information about firmware version 1.31. This firmware ver-sion 1.31 can be loaded onto all models of both TPS1200 and GPS1200 instruments. This firmware can be loaded onto any instrument regardless of any maintenance contract – it is not necessary to have purchased a maintenance contract to use this firmware. Also now available are new versions for all loadable applications – Stakeout, Reference Line, De-termine Coordinate System, COGO, Sets of Angles, Traverse and RoadRunner. Please ensure to also load and use the new applications. Please do take your time to read these Release Notes. They contain information about the new func-tionality within the firmware and loadable applications, how to obtain and load the firmware and load-able applications onto the instruments and a summary of all the latest individual firmware components.

GENERAL FIRMWARE IMPROVEMENTS

Auto Points

Additional Auto Logging Functionality The popular auto points functionality has been improved for both TPS and GPS instruments with the addition of extra methods for collecting auto logged points.

STOP & GO METHOD It is now possible to collect auto points by simply holding the antenna or reflector still (within a defined range) for a defined period of time. This means that by us-ing this method, an auto logged point can be measured by simply holding the antenna or reflector still when the point to be surveyed is found. Choose the Stop & Go method in the SURVEY Configuration panel, Auto Points page view.

System 1200 - Software Release Notes

Set Log Auto Pts to Stop & Go. It is then possible to define the Stop Position – this is the distance by which the antenna or reflector must be stationary and the Stop Time – this is the time for which the antenna or reflector must be station-ary.

USER DECIDES

This method allows the user to decide when an auto logged point should be stored by pressing the F3(OCUPY) button (for the GPS instrument) or the F3(REC) button (for the TPS instrument). This may by particularly useful where it is necessary to collect auto logged points (and offset points) to a higher level of accuracy than may be possible with the other methods. Note also, the F3(OCUPY) button (for the GPS instrument) or the F3(REC) but-ton (for the TPS instrument) is now also available in the SURVEY screen, Auto page view regardless of which auto logged method is being used. This allows auto logged points to be measured at any time in addition to the chosen method.

Line and Areas

Previously open lines & areas closed when new line/area created For both TPS and GPS instruments, when a new line or area is created, then all previously open lines and/or areas are automatically closed. If it is needed to have 2 or more lines and/or areas open, then the additional lines and/or areas need to be opened after opening the new line/area

Additional Hot Keys and USER Menu items

Even faster line and area surveying The following Hot Key and USER menu options have been added in order to speed up line and area surveying for both GPS and TPS instruments. Remember

System 1200 - Software Release Notes that it is also possible to use shift Hot Keys. FUNC Create New Line: Allows a new line to be quickly created by accessing the MANAGE New Line screen. The Line ID which is suggested will be as de-fined by the line ID template (if being used). The line code which is suggested will be the last used line code. FUNC Create New Area: The same as for FUNC Create New Line except that a new area is created. FUNC Create New Line (Quick): Creates a new line and opens the new line. This is done automatically without the user accessing the MANAGE New Line screen. The Line ID which is suggested will be as defined by the line ID template (if being used). The line code which is suggested will be the last used line code. With this functionality it is possible to open a new line/area from any screen or application (example – the survey screen) with one key stroke. Note, if you also wish to add attribute values to the line code, then it is recommended to use a mandatory attribute assigned to the line code with no default value and ensure the Attributes setting in the CONFIGURE Coding Settings screen is set to Default Values. This way the Enter Mandatory Attributes screen will appear after using the hot key/USER menu item and allow attribute values to be added. FUNC Create New Area (Quick): The same as for FUNC Create New Line (Quick) except that a new area is created. FUNC Close All Lines/Area: Closes any open lines and/or areas which are cur-rently open. FUNC Re-Open Last Used Line: Re-opens the last used line – this is the line to which a point has last been added. Using this function in conjunction with FUNC Close All Lines/Areas allows a line to be temporarily closed (for example, while surveying a individual object such as a tree or man-hole) and then re-opened. FUNC Re-Open Last Used Area: The same as for FUNC Create New Line (Quick) except that the last used area is re-opened.

Data Export

Export data from a job on the instrument to the Data or GSI directory When exporting data from a job it is now possible to choose to export data in a file to the Data or GSI directory on the CF card for both GPS and TPS instru-ments. Previously it was only possible to export files to the Data directory. If it is needed to transfer data to a TPS1100 instrument, then it is necessary to export the data to the GSI directory.

4/15

System 1200 - Software Release Notes Many more export variables supported Many more export variables are now supported, especially in the Data Export TPS Station block. To be able to use the additional variables, it is necessary to obtain the new Lgo_fm.tpl file. This file is available from the download area of the Leica web site or from your local Selling Unit or Dealer. It is also available on the v1.31 firmware CD under the following directory: Gps1200\GPS1200_SampleData\FormatFiles\Lgo_fm.TPL or Tps1200\TPS1200_SampleData\FormatFiles\Lgo_fm.TPL This file must then replace the existing Lgo_fm.tpl file. This file is stored in the following directory on your PC: c:\Program Files\Leica Geosystems\LEICA Geo Office\Combined\Bin\FM template\. Note, the exact path may vary depending on where you initially installed LGO. Previously created format files can still be used with System 1200 instruments and be used in the Format Manager software.

Data Import

Importing points using space as a delimiter For both GPS and TPS instruments, the import of points has been improved such that it is now possible to import points, which are delimited by more than one space. If this is needed, then set the Multi Spaces option in the IMPORT Define ASCII Import screen (which is accessed using F2(CONF) from the IMPORT ASCII/GSI Data to Job screen) to Yes. Multiplying easting values by -1 For both GPS and TPS instruments, it is now possible to multiply the imported easting coordinate by –1. This may be useful for “left-handed” coordinate sys-tems such as found in Denmark. If this is needed, then set the Easting option in the IMPORT Define Ht Type & Easting Import screen (which is accessed using shift F2(HTS) from the IMPORT ASCII/GSI Data to Job screen) to Multiply By -1.

GPS Configuration

Configuring to beep when a point is stored It is now possible to configure if the GPS instrument should beep when a point is being measured and the point occupation is ended (either the user presses

Page 5: System 1200 Release Notes v1_31_en

System 1200 - Software Release Notes F1(STOP) or the Auto STOP functionality is being used). It is now also possible to configure if the GPS instrument should beep when a GPS point is stored (either the user presses F1(STORE) or the Auto STORE functionality is being used. Both settings can be configured in the CONFIGURE Point Occupation Settings screen (choose 5. Configure from the main menu and then 1. Survey Settings and then 6. Point Occupation Settings.

20 Digits for Sta-tions to Dial

The number of digits which can now be used for GSM or modem stations is increased to 20 digits It is now possible to enter up to 20 digits for the GSM or modem station to be dialled on the GPS instrument. This means CDMA modems can now be used.

TPS Configuration

Electronic level as start up panel It is now possible to configure that the Electronic Level screen appears as the start up screen after turning on the TPS instrument. This can be configured in the CONFIGURE Start Up & Power Down screen.

System Status In-formation

Extended OWI and GeoCom options It is now easily possible to see if a GPS instrument has the Extended OWI op-tion activated, or if a TPS instrument has the Robotics GeoCom option. Simply
