Solo Recital Competition First Prize Winner

Philip Hoover

Piano student of late Sheila Keats Philip Hoover, born and raised in New York City, is 12 years old and is in the 7th grade at The Dalton School. Passionate about music and the piano, Philip began his musical studies at the age of four under the instruction of Sheila Keats, Head of the Piano Department at The School for Strings. He has also completed summer studies under Dr. Solomon Mikowsky of the Manhattan School of Music and Ernest Barretta of The Juilliard School Pre-College Division.

He is an avid performer winning First Prize in the 2016 Concert Festival International Competition as well as 2nd prize in the 2016 American Protégé Piano Competition.

In addition to his love of music, Philip is a competitive athlete winning many local tennis tournaments sponsored by the United States Tennis Association. His other interests include math, computer science, chess and soccer.

Praised for her “agile, pleasantly phrased voice” and “achingly pure” timbre (Epoch Times), Gwyneth is a promising young American soprano. She was awarded the AFAF 2013 Special Prize and performed in the “Moscow Meets Friends” Festival sponsored by the Vladimir Spivakov (Moscow, Russia). In June ’15, she was invited to represent the AFAF at the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in New York. In Spring ’15, she placed 3rd as the youngest prizewinner in the 2015 New York Lyric Opera National Vocal Competition. After performing in Spring’14 with the New York Concerti Sinfonietta by winning 1st prize in the “International Shining Stars Competition,” she was reengaged as a soloist for October, 2014 in Carnegie Hall.

She has performed four times with the Concert Festival Orchestra as a Grand Prix winner. During Summer '15, she was granted a scholarship by Concert Festival to sing

with the Orquestra Clássica do Centro in collaboration with "Uniao Artistica de Alexander Ioffe” and to present a solo recital in Lisbon, Portugal. During Summer ’14, she won a scholarship from Concert Festival to perform in St. Petersburg, Russia, including a solo recital in the Rimsky-Korsakov Memorial Museum.

Gwyneth has performed at Carnegie's Weil Recital Hall 30 times as both a soloist in piano and voice, as a winner of the American Fine Arts Festival International Competitions (Regular Season, Russian Music, Golden Voices of America and Concerto), American Protégé International Vocal Competition, American Protégé International Piano and Strings Competition, Music-Fest Rising Talents Competition and Concert Festival International Competition. She has also performed at Cami Hall, Leiderkranz Foundation, German Cultural Center, Merkin Hall, Rutgers University, Symphony Space and the Curtis Institute. Between 2011-13 Gwyneth performed in Manhattan three times as an Omega Ensemble Next Generation Artist.

Gwyneth started piano lessons with her father, international concert pianist, Jeffrey Campbell, at the age of 2 and was accepted at age 12 as a student of Lorraine Nubar, Head of the Vocal Division, Juilliard Pre-College. She now studies with Maria Lyudko, Honored Artist of Russia and Head of the Vocal Department at the St. Petersburg Conservatory, Russia, for whom she first sang while in St. Petersburg.
