Mother’s Day… 8 May 2011 Mother’s Day… 8 May 2011 by Pooja Singhby Pooja Singh Mother’s Day is celebrated in Australia on the second Sunday of May each year. Mother’s Day is a day for many people to show their appreciation towards mothers and mother figures worldwide. It is an annual event but is held at different dates in the calendar, depending on the country. Mother, the very word brings across an image of a lovely woman in our mind, a woman who believes in selfless love for her children. She expects nothing in return, perhaps except for some love and care on their part. So this is the perfect way to show our love and affection to our mother. And give a big smile on her face that day… :)
ABN 76432600317
What is a Mother? A mother is someone to shelter and guide us,
To love us, whatever we do,
With a warm understanding and infinite patience,
And wonderful gentleness, too.
How often a mother means swift reassurance
In soothing our small, childish fears,
How tenderly mothers watch over their children
And treasure them all through the years!
The heart of a mother is full of forgiveness
For any mistake, big or small,
And generous always in helping her family
Whose needs she has placed above all.
A mother can utter a word of compassion
And make all our cares fall away,
She can brighten a home with the sound of her laughter
And make life delightful and gay.
A mother possesses incredible wisdom
And wonderful insight and skill -
In each human heart is that one special corner
Which only a mother can fill!

THE EASTER CALENDAR
Easter is the most important festival of the Christian church.
Palm Sunday Palm Sunday is the Sunday before Easter Sunday. When Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey, a few days before his crucifixion, people met him with palm branches.
Maundy Thursday is the night of Last Supper. Jesus commanded his twelve apostles to love one another. Jesus showed his love for them by washing their feet.
Good Friday commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus. It is the most solemn day in the Christian year.
Easter Sunday. On this day, Christians celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. Churches are decorated with flowers — one of the symbols of Easter. Easter is a movable feast, depending on the date of the first full moon after the Spring Equinox in the northern hemisphere. In the northern hemisphere, Easter occurs during spring, and many Easter traditions such as those concerned with rabbits and eggs, are associated with pagan spring festivals in the days before Christ was on earth.

Anzac Day Anzac Day is a national day of remembrance in Australia and New Zealand, and is commemo-rated by both countries on 25 April every year
to honour members of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) who fought at Gallipoli in Turkey during World War I. It now
more broadly commemorates all those who died and served in military operations for their
countries.
Excursion Marburg by Rita
On Monday 18th April a group of friends from
Support Links went on an excursion to Marburg,
situated 15 minutes drive from Ipswich.
Our first
stop was a very pleasant visit to Warrego Wines on
the corner of Warrego Highway & Seminary Road
where we participated in a little wine-tasting at the
cellar door.
Next we drove up Seminary Road to
visit the heritage listed plantation-style mansion
Woodlands, which was built in 1890. We enjoyed
a walk around the gardens and visited the cemetery
and grotto.
After lunch in the township of Marburg, we
headed up the hill to the Emu Farm where they
produce oil, leather and meat products. This was a
great opportunity to see these stunning native
animals up close. In the shop we were
able to sample the many emu health and
beauty products.

Introduction /Support Links
Newsletter May2011
Firstly I would like to take this opportunity to Thank Astrid Tholens for the amazing job she has done in producing the wonderful newsletter you have become accustomed to. Astrid has now begun to undertake new projects which she has wanted to pursue for some time & needs more time to work on these. One of these projects will be a class in creative writing at Ipswich Library. I would highly recommend this to any budding writers among you please phone Astrid on 3202 2291 for more Information. I also would love to thank Pooja and Rita who have volunteered to keep this newsletter going. They are both highly skilled and committed members of Support Links and have a deep concern to keep the Peace and Harmony message going and allowing members and friends to keep in touch with the many activities that are happening in the Queensland and local Multicultural Communities. This letter is available in Libraries and Community Centers and to anyone who can give us an email address to send it to. Last year we celebrated our tenth year of being a vital part of the Ipswich Community and we have touched the lives of thousands of new comers and locals alike. We are very proud of our achievements and together with West Morton Health, Ipswich City Council and the Leichhardt Community Centre we hope to
continue for many years to come.
Thanks You All
Cheers Stella
