Facts Good City is being overtaken by crime

A Group of Four Scientists are mutated into Super Heroes after an experiment goes wrong

The Super Heroes form Super Heroes LLP and sell their crime fighting services to Good City for a flat monthly fee

At First, the Super Heroes have some success removing the criminals but cause too much damage and a few casualties to innocent bystanders

The Mayor of Good City demands a result based fee system and less damages from Super Heroes LLP

Question #1Who is SuperHeroes LLP accountable to? And what is it accountable for?

SuperHeroes LLP is accountable to the mayor and the people of Good City. The entity is responsible for removing criminals from Good City while preserving the lives and property of Good City and it’s citizens.

Question #2What keeps SuperHeroes LLP’s CEO, Catrix, awake at night? In other words, what can get in the way of SuperHeroes LLP successfully executing its strategy of cleaning up Good City and keeping it safe from criminals?

How does her firm fight and catch criminals without damaging property?

How does she keep control of her subordinates, who may possess greater superpowers than herself? What keeps them from forming their own company or working as independent contractors to the city?

How does she keep her group motivated to use their powers for good rather than for crime?

Question #3What are SuperHeroes LLP’s values? What compass guides its decisions? And more importantly, how should the CEO get the other superheroes to live by these values?

Catrix should develop a management control system to make sure the employees of SuperHeroes LLP adhere to these values. The control system should include Results Controls, Personnel and culture controls, Diagnostic Controls, Belief and Boundary Controls.

Question #4What is the best way for SuperHeroes LLP to get paid by the city? As part of your answer, develop a performance measurement system for SuperHeroes LLP. What is the best way to compensate each of the 12 superheroes?

Each criminal removed is worth a flat fee

A threshold for property damages and casualties must be established

The CEO should get a bigger cut of the profits for her role as manager

The rest of the profit should be split equally, with a bonus percentage being awarded to the employee(s) with the highest performance score each month

Temptation for the Super Heroes to use their powers for evil or their own personal interest

The Future and Value of SuperHeroes LLP once all crime is eliminated from Good City

Recommendations Superheroes LLP must change its business practices to become

more sustainable so that Good City may become sustainable.

The LLP must begin to establish Personnel Controls in the form of on the job training and peer initiatives, such as the CEO and Upper level Partners leading by example.

The entity must also use Results Controls to motivate the employees to limit damages while catching criminals. (The Damage Threshold)

Belief and Boundary Controls should be established, such as a code of conduct and our core values.

Diagnostic Controls, such as bonuses for top performers, should be implemented to maintain the focus on catching criminals. However, they should be tied to the Boundary Controls as well.

Conclusion Good City is not living up to its name.

The people of Good City deserve a compassionate band of SuperHeroes dedicated to restoring justice while leaving the city intact.

With a few changes to the business model and practices of SuperHeroes LLP, a huge difference can be made for Good City, restoring the people's faith in their heroes and enabling the City to rise from the ashes and become the Beacon of Hope and Justice it once was.
