Sunset but the day's not lost

sitting under the treesgazing at the vast expansepalm fronds drifting down toward mein the lilting breezemelted ice in my drink

    EVENING ENTERTAINMENT

To be the center of attention, is no surprise

people listen, and they're hypnotizedthey forget about the world, and consequences outsidethey dance over the line that separates truth from lies

When theyre watching, if I do it rightthey have no choice, and react how I likeI'll tell them secrets that they knowand in an instant, I'm controlling timethe signal only works if they let me come inside

I want to make them feelthat Im only singing to themtheres no one else in the roomthat their desires are the strongest in the worldand this is the song that they loveand understands the needs of their heartsThey put my voice in commandmemorize every word that I've sungcause they feel like no one else could comprehend

and tonight, Im the only voice in their headthe only voice theyll ever lovethe only one to know their heartOne

    "TOURIST"

    I can recall it all

narrowly avoiding the serrated rocksrain dripping down the mastI stood and staredmy lungs were coldmade me breathe fastermy leg jumped in timea sign of my exhilaration

I lost my namethat night my face changedI was strongermuch strongerafter I dockedI'd walk by myselfI didn't need to talkI'd lost the need to talk

I picked a plantain off the tree

I picked a pearl from the conchkept some coinsbut gave awaymy paper moneyI found a knifeon the groundsaw my reflectionin the blade

Nails grown longand my beard grown scragglymy hair pinned at the back of my headI waded off the shore andcaught a fish with a sharpened sticksliced off the scalespeeled back the skinI quickly leapt over the sea snakesupon my return

we had to run to the opposite gate to get Yvesthen, sat around till Emile and Juliet's flight arrived at 3and no one could agree on what to eattill Yves suggested Raj's for a curry

We slept in on Saturday, then went into the cityand we all bought loads of records at Laurie'sEmile lead us to the Field Museum, where he wrote downthe text of a Pharaohs incantation for his next short story

and we saw Corrine and Roland, so we crossed the streetwe had an outdoor dinner at Spacca Napoliand for desert, we got water and free cannolis

Sunday we walked by a race, and sang "Joggers Die Every Day"and that afternoon was the start of the farkakt rallywe saw Roger and George, so we crossed the streetand ducked through the connecting alleywe didn't want coffee or tea, we knew it was best to leave

and while Ann was driving home, she got incredibly sleepy

We woke up early on Monday morningNobody wanted coffee or teaso Juliet squeezed some fresh juice insteadYves watered the plants, and we all made new plansAnn's story about her dream made us laughThen we got ready for the day aheadwe'd all had a wonderful weekend
