MAS OverviewMAS Overview

Message Queue for Each Device– List of all messages that currently should be displayed– Priority from 1 to 256 assigned to each message– Highest (closest to 1) priority is displayed

• If two messages share highest priority, first one sent wins– If queue is empty, device is blanked

Default Priorities (can be changed)– 1: Manually created messages– 2 – 255: Used by Incident Management system– 256: DMS message sequences– Travel Time messages typically have default near 256

DMS and HAR Messages Redirected to MAS– Send Message: Add Message to Queue– Blank Device: Remove All Messages from Queue

DMS Spelling ConflictsDMS Spelling Conflicts

Approved Words– Administrators specify which words are acceptable for messages– Messages with other words generate Spelling Conflicts

Spelling Conflict Dialog– Appears to all users with approval permission– Response of first user to reply is acknowledged– May approve, reject, or modify conflicting message

Only Triggers as Message is Sent to Sign from MAS– Adding messages to queue does not check spelling

Device Selection AlgorithmDevice Selection Algorithm

Maximum Distance of Recommended Devices Based on Severity– Level 1: least severe, smallest distance– Level 2: moderate, medium distance– Level 3: most severe, largest distance

Distance Calculation– DMS devices: Freeway travel distance– HAR devices: Point-to-point distance

Recommended Message Priority– Priority decreases further device is from event– Priority algorithm: 2 + (Distance from device to event)

Many Criteria Configurable– May be changed by local administrators

Recommended Response PlansRecommended Response Plans

Recommended Response Plans– Messages built according to message

templates configured by administrator– Devices selected by distance

May Change Recommendation– Search distance may be modified– Recommended Response Plan may

be used as base for editing final response plan

Existing Response Plan Choices– Replace existing with new plan– Add new plan over existing plan– Add only devices which are not in

existing plan
