PRESIDENTS WELCOME
In Utah, the Utah-Utah State football game is as traditional as turkey on Thanksgiving Day.
The rivalry between the two universities is the oldest in Utah sports. In the modern history of rivalry, it has become tradition to hold the game on Thanksgiving Day.
The University of Utah has taken growing pride in playing the annual role of host for the game. The administration of the U, through our president, Dr. A. Ray Olpin, takes pleasure in welcoming the Utah State Agricultural College and the friends of both universities to the Utah campus for the 1956 renewal of this tradition.
To Utah State, the Thanksgiving season marks the second anniversary of the appointment of its president, Dr. Daryl F. Chase. He came to the U.S.A.C. presidency two years ago from Cedar City, where he was director of the College of Southern Utah.

AC BASKETBALL 1956-57 All of the good fortune that has fallen in the
Aggie direction is not by good luck alone, but has
come about by the able direction of the genial, hard
working and likeable "Cec" Baker. In six seasons at
the helm of the Utah State basketball machine,
Coach "Cec" Baker has molded what is now known
as an intermountain and national basketball power.
The former Aggie great of the mid-twenties is
mild-mannered, but is known as the giant killer
when it comes to delivering defeat to hopeful con
tenders. His teams are coached to employ the fast
break and controlled set patterns that are becoming
a hallmark of Aggie cage squads.

UTE STARS OF THE WEEK
CO-CAPTAIN JERRY LISTON played one of the greatest football games of his collegiate career against Rice. He was in nearly every tackle on the defensive and did some outstanding blocking on the offense.
GARY KNUDSON, although injured most of his collegiate football career, played a great game against Rice. The hard-hitting fullback picked up many extra yards with his determined running and was outstanding with his defensive tackles.
Through cooperation with the University of Utah, your AG Grocers are happy to have had the opportunity to bring you foot-ball tickets at a reduced rate. We wish to congratulate the Univer-sity of Utah for a very successful season and thank our many AG customers for their patronage.

UTAH STATE GREAT
Left to right, top: George Nelson Jr., George Nelson Sr., Mrs. George Nelson, Keith J. Nelson. Bottom: Mrs. Ray O. Jeppsen, Mrs. Lucile Rogers, Mrs. R. G. Figueroa, and Mrs. Dee J. Neville.
To the several thousands of athletes who have participated in Aggie athletics, George Nelson has become affectionately known as just "Doc". "Doc" has been a father to many boys who have been away from home — and a better father than anyone will ever know. His mild-mannered kindness and fatherly approach have helped many an athlete over the rough spots in school and competitive athletics. Whether it is rubbing the kinks out of a sore back, taping a sprained ankle, or showing a boy the right holds for a wrestling combination, "Doc" has earned the respect and loyalty of all who have worked with him for more than a quarter of a century.
Besides being the Dean of Trainers in the Skyline Conference, "Doc" distinguished himself in his athletic specialty of wrestling. Recently the great wrestler, Ed "Strangler" Lewis, made the statement that George Nelson would have been the heavyweight champion of the world had he chosen to follow wrestling as a career.
Utah State, however, is proud that "Doc" came to the College to establish his reputation in athletics and as a gesture of appreciation recently named the fieldhouse in his honor.
His two sons, George Jr. and Keith, both distinguished themselves in athletics and Mrs. Nelson and daughters have been ardent supporters of the Utah State athletic programs.

The University of Utah basketball squad takes off its wraps and gets an early start on the 1956-57 season with their annual varsity-frosh contest to be played Nov. 26 at 2:30 p.m. in Einar Nielsen Field-house. The same two teams will give a repeat performance in Ogden's Ben Lomond gym on November 28.
In past years this game has been extremely interesting to basketball fans, giving them both an opportunity to see what the varsity has to offer and also what the Utes have been able to gain in the way of freshman material. This year should be especially entertaining in that Coach Jack Gardner is facing a rebuilding job, having lost the heart of his 1955-56 Skyline championship team. Gardner will make this season's varsity-frosh tilt a real test and will without a doubt pour on the steam in the November tilts in order to find just what his best combinations are. The Runnin' Redskins open their 1956-57 schedule on December 1 against a strong Montana State club and the two frosh tilts are important to the Utah strategy.
The varsity club will feature such outstanding seasoned performers as Curtis Jenson, Jerry McCleary, Ted Berner, Gary Hale, Richard Eiler, and Darrell Pastrell from last season's squad. Sophomores on the varsity include: Ron Ballantyne, Don Jenson, Jack Mannion, Richard Paul, Bill Paul, Pearl Pollard, and Dick Shores. R. L. Benson and Milton Kane, both of whom are Junior College boys, are playing for the Utes for the first time and a service returnee, Hugh Stringfield, who played at Utah in 1953-54, is back in the fold.
Outstanding freshmen include such Utah high school greats as Gary Chestang, of East; Dave Van Wagenen, West; Roger Tomlinson, Ogden; Ben Cutler and Karl Miller, Jordan; and Mark Rose and Reed Sanders of Murray. Out-of-state frosh include 6' 8" Carney Chrisler, who is considered as one of the finest preps in Colorado history, and Keith An-cell of Denver.
Actually, the frosh will field a taller club than the varsity and Fresham Coach LaDell Andersen feels that his young team just might give the varsity a rough evening.
