O God and Father, we pray to restore physical health to our parishioners who are weakened with

illness, peace to those troubled with worry, and comfort to those discouraged with

problems. Help them find strength, faith and trust in You and a love for one another to

guide them through any health challenge they may face. Amen.

We invite you to take time this summer (and throughout the year) to visit and explore our Eparchial Website and share this information with others! God’s Blessings for a blessed, safe and wonderful summer!

SOCIAL JUSTICE UPDATE June 2018

NEW INITIATIVES

Parish Council has approved the following two new social justice initiatives for this Autumn. More in-formation will be provided in future bulletins. 1. An outreach to our fellow Easter Rite Catholic churches in Saskatoon, namely the Sacred Heart Chaldean Catholic Church and the Christ the King Syro-Malabar Catholic Church. St. George’s Parish Council has invited representatives from the other two churches to join us on September 27 at 7 p.m. in our Auditorium for a get-to-know each other meeting. Both other churches have accepted the invitation. Further information will be provided in September’s bulletin. 2. To support the Prison Ministry initiative that is coordinated at the Saskatoon Diocesan Office. This social justice support from our Parish will be led and coordinated by Teresa Bodnar Hiebert. See Teresa’s program request in this bulletin.

ON GOING INITIATIVES

Guadalupe-St. George’s Friendship Committee. December 2017. Under the UCWL leadership and with the support of our Parish and the Brother-

hood, around 60 Christmas gifts were provided to children and youth at Guadalupe. Our joint Friendship Committee with Guadalupe worked together to make this a great success. Pictures and a full report were included in our Church Bulletin. Iris Owchar and Gladys Rogalski were the principal organizers. They recommend we continue this program next Christmas.

Twelve parishioners from Guadalupe attended as St. George’s guests to our Theophany Eve Blessing of the Water liturgy and banquet in January. This was a great show of support by them to our relationship building project.

Guadalupe invited our parishioners to join them for their Feast in April. Unfortunately, none of our members were able to attend.

Members of Guadalupe leadership were invited by the Saskatoon Diocese Peace and Justice Committee to attend talk about the Guadalupe-St. George’s Friendship Committee and its initiatives. I understand our project is viewed as unique and important by the Peace and Justice Committee.

The Social Justice Committee recommends that for our Fall event with Guadalupe we consider an educational program about the Treaty Six that applies to our area of the province. Parish Council approved pursuing this project. More information will follow in future bulletins. The joint St. George’s/Guadalupe Friendship Committee will lead this initiative, and they already have some exciting innovative ideas.

St. George’s Food Hamper Program In November and December two large deliveries were made from our Food Hamper to Guada-lupe’s Pantry program. Since then, the donations by our parishioners has slowed down, and a third delivery was made in May to Guadalupe. Guadalupe appreciates whatever donations we can provide. They express gratitude at the support we offer rather than the quantity of our goods.

St. George’s-Ukraine Committee. This Social Justice outreach earlier approved by Council has gotten off the ground under the leadership of Victoria Marko. The initial projects will involve youth from our two communities interacting through Skype and other communication means. Exchange visits will hopefully develop as this relationship progresses.
