The main purpose of this study is to make Shampoo out of

Beer, Sunflower and Coconut oils. We thought on how they can

improve the strength of the hair without the Beer-like smell. We suspected that the Barley in Beers and the oils of Sunflower and Coconuts could make our hair strong and smooth.

To determine if the statement is true, we used a set of simple experiments.

We first made the product by boiling the beer until half of it is remained. Then we heated the Sunflower seeds and mash it to release its oils. The Coconut milk is also heated to release its oils. The next is the Honey shampoo. We combined honey, olive oil and some perfumes in a bowl. After that, we combined the two mixtures together and put it in a container.

The experiment is presented to 5 respondents for the following tests:

Bubble testOdor testHair’s smoothness testHair’s softness test

The results are the following:Bubble test: GoodOdor test: GoodHair smoothness test: Very goodHair softness test: Very Good

We also test the product in two different persons but have the same type of hair. The first lady used the experimented shampoo on her hair while the other one used the common shampoo.

The person who used the experimented shampoo after three days seems to have an invigorating effect on her hair while the hair of the other lady is still like on the first day that the observation in given; giving is a conclusion that the experiment works.

This experiment can give a strong impact in the society especially in the people who are poor because the ingredients used in the experiment were not expensive as the shampoos in our community.

However, this investigatory project is not yet approved by specialists and needs further study to prove that the product really works.

Besides getting compliments on your luscious locks from

beer goggle-wearing guys in bars, there might be much more that beer can do for the well-being of your hair. As we discovered with the effects of beer on skin, there are special components within beer that are better for your body than any old carbonated beverage. When you soak, rinse, or sprits your hair with beer, its natural ingredients coat each strand and lend hair-nourishing benefits. In addition to B vitamins, the proteins found in malt and hops are said to repair damaged hair and boost overall body. Meanwhile, the maltose and sucrose sugars in beer tighten the hair’s cuticles for enhanced shine.

Although it is debatable whether the corn, rice, or wheat protein in beer can actually deposit on your hair to form a strengthening film, there is no question that it makes hair seem thicker. This effect may be attributed to the proteins left on the hair fiber, though beer also seems to slightly swell the hair shaft.

Coconut oil is one of the best natural nutrition for hair. It

helps in healthy growth of hair providing them a shiny complexion. Regular massage of the head with coconut oil ensures that your scalp is free of dandruff, lice, and lice eggs, even if your scalp is dry. Coconut oil is extensively used in the Indian sub-continent for hair care. It is an excellent conditioner and helps in the re-growth of damaged hair. It also provides the essential proteins required for nourishing damaged hair. It is therefore used as hair care oil and used in manufacturing various conditioners, and dandruff relief creams. Coconut oil is normally applied topically for hair care.

Sunflower oil actually has the highest concentration of

vitamin E of all the vegetable oils. Vitamin E is an encompassing name for a group of fat-soluble complexes with powerful antioxidant properties, which help to protect cells from free radicals, or cancer causing radicals in the body. Vitamin E is also an anti-inflammatory, thereby making it a healthy and natural part of your daily diet and it will help prevent infection and disease progression as well.

Previously published results showed that both in vitro and in

vivo coconut oil (CNO) treatments prevented combing damage of various hair types. Using the same methodology, an attempt was made to study the properties of mineral oil and sunflower oil on hair. Mineral oil (MO) was selected because it is extensively used in hair oil formulations in India, because it is non-greasy in nature, and because it is cheaper than vegetable oils like coconut and sunflower oils. The study was extended to sunflower oil (SFO) because it is the second most utilized base oil in the hair oil industry on account of its non-freezing property and its odorlessness at ambient temperature. As the aim was to cover different treatments, and the effect of these treatments on various hair types using the above oils, the number of experiments to be conducted was a very high number and a technique termed as the Taguchi Design of Experimentation was used. The findings clearly indicate the strong impact that coconut oil application has to hair as compared to application of both sunflower and mineral oils. Among three oils, coconut oil was the only oil found to reduce the protein loss remarkably for both undamaged and damaged hair when used as a pre-wash and post-wash grooming product. Both sunflower and mineral oils do not help at all in reducing the protein loss from hair. This difference in results could arise from the composition of each of these oils. Coconut oil, being a triglyceride of lauric acid (principal fatty acid), has a high affinity for hair proteins and, because of its low molecular weight and straight linear chain, is able to penetrate inside the hair shaft. Mineral oil, being a hydrocarbon, has no affinity for proteins and therefore is not able to penetrate and yield better results. In the case of sunflower oil, although it is a triglyceride of linoleic acid, because of its bulky structure due to the presence of double bonds, it does not penetrate the fiber, consequently resulting in no favorable impact on protein loss.

Any of 60 species of annual herbaceous plants in the genus

Helianthus (composite family), native mostly to North and South America.

The common sunflower (H. annuus) has a rough, hairy stem 3–15 ft (1–4.5 m) high; broad, coarsely toothed, rough leaves 3–12 in. (7.5–30 cm) long; and large (3–6 in., or 7.5–15 cm, in diameter), flat, plate-like compound flowers. Disk flowers swirl in a tight brown, yellow, or purple spiral; ray flowers are yellow. The leaves are used as fodder, the flowers yield a yellow dye, and the seeds contain oil and are used for food. The oil is used for cooking, as an ingredient of soaps and paints, and as a lubricant. Only a few species are cultivated, some for their spectacular size.

Alcoholic beverage made usually from malted barley,

flavoured with hops, and brewed by slow fermentation.

Known from ancient times, beer was especially common in northern climates not conducive to grape cultivation for wine. It is produced by employing either a bottom-fermenting yeast, which falls to the bottom of the container when fermentation is completed, or a top-fermenting yeast, which rises to the surface. Lager beers (from lagern, “to store”), of German origin, are bottom-fermented and stored at a low temperature for several months; most are light in colour, with high carbonation, medium hop flavor, and alcohol content of 3–5% by volume. Top-fermented beers, popular in Britain, include ale, stout, and porter; they are characterized by a prominent head of released carbon dioxide, a sharper and more strongly hopped flavour than lagers, and an alcohol content of 4–6.5% by volume.

Barley is a cereal plant of the genus Hordeum, in the family

Poaceae (or Gramineae), and its edible grain.

The three cultivated species are H. vulgare, H. distichum, and H. irregulare. Barley is adaptable to a greater range of climate than any other cereal. About half of the world's crop is used as livestock feed, the rest for human food and for malting. Most beer is made from malted barley, which is also used in distilled beverages (see malt). Barley has a nutlike flavour and is high in carbohydrates, with moderate quantities of protein, calcium, and phosphorus.

Coconut oil is extracted from the meat. The nutritious liquid

“milk” at the centre may be drunk directly from the nut. The husk provides coir, a fibre highly resistant to salt water that is used in the manufacture of ropes, mats, baskets, brushes, and brooms. The nutshells are used as containers and often decoratively carved.

Whether the flakes are caused by dry scalp, or a fungal/yeast condition like seborrheic dermatitis, coconut oil will help, because it's a great moisturizer, and its anti-fungal substances

For our experiment, we used the Beer as our main

ingredient. We boil the ¾ cups of Beer until ¼ of it is remained. We mash the 1 cup of the Sunflower seeds to release its oil. We also heated ½ kilo of the Coconut milk for few minutes to have its oils. Set aside.

For the honey shampoo, just combine the ingredients of it in a mixing bowl.

Just combine the Beer mixture and the Shampoo mixture and

put in a plastic bottle.

The hypothesis therefore is true that Sunflowers, Beers and Coconut can be used as a Shampoo for a soft and smoother hair. Base on the respondents, the experimented product created would be essential for the growth of our community for it can easily be found in our area.

This gave us a conclusion that the beer, the main ingredient for the product can be made as a shampoo.

Page 20: SunCoBe Shampoo
Page 21: SunCoBe Shampoo

We therefore, recommend this product for further studies to improve its quality and to use more appropriate equipments. We suggest this product for it can help in improving our economy. Also some ingredients may be added to improve it or it can be exchanged for another essential ingredient to make the product much better.
