Bandalli Durga The Mysterious Hump Beckons
Summiters Escape from the ordinary
andalli Durga is a hill fort situated at
an altitude of 4700ft above sea level
near a hamlet called Bandalli in
Kanakapura taluk – making it an ideal short
getaway from Bangalore. The mysterious
humped shape makes it an intriguing
object of interest. Not much is known
about the history of this fort. Today, the
fort is more or less in ruins. The fort is
protected by three levels of wall and it
seems impregnable. The top of the hill is
not visible from the base of the hill. After
a steep climb 3 hrs, one reaches the ruins
of the fort. There is also a perennial well
built by the Palegars (the locals). The trek
passes through Lantana bushes, bamboo
forest and green meadows. From the top of
the hill one can see a panoramic view of M
M Hills, B R Hills and other nearby hill
ranges. The place is haven for
birdwatchers. Birds like Hoope, Bushchat,
Woodpeckers, Coppersmith Barbet, Jungle
fowl, Green Barbets and Wagtail are found
in large numbers.
Bandalli Durga is an ideal short getaway for
history lovers, birdwatchers and the

A: The price includes:

Food (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
Forest Entry Permits
Guide charges
Equipment – Sleeping bags and
mats
Q: Who can do this trek?
A: Anyone who is physically capable of
walking long distances without getting
immensely tired can do it. Be prepared
for lots of sun and heat!
Q: What should I carry?
A: The following items are a must:
2 liter water bottle (with water)
A sun hat
Good shoes – Not your regular
Nike, Puma, Adidas, Reebok
rather a trekking shoe that can
take the wear and tear. You
don’t want to be trekking with
blisters on your feet. Ouch! Ask
us, we can help you pick a good
pair.
A toilet kit
Clothes - Bright colors scare
elephants. Use green, grey,
brown.
Snacks and munches…
Loads of enthusiasm
Q: What NOT to do?
A: Our treks are of course fun, but we
have fun responsibly. We are sensitive
to the environment – no littering. We
also enjoy the silence and therefore we
do not shout and scare away the birds
and animals. Remember, this is not
tourism – we are passionate trekkers
and we want to keep coming back.
Q: What food do you provide?
A: Simple vegetarian food. Nothing
extravagant, nor will you sleep with
empty stomachs. You will be hungry
and anything served will taste gourmet.
Q: Is it safe to sleep in the open?
A: We choose our campsite very
carefully – so there is no reason to
worry. But expect that ant bite when
you wake up in the morning.
Q: Can I see any UFOs?
A: Yes! They are UFOs at first - but the
challenge is to turn them into IFO –
identified flying objects. We call it
bird-watching.
