Expressing Concerns
Personal IssuesYour tutor may be the obvious person to talk to, but any member of staff with whom you feel comfortable will always be happy to listen to any worries, or even a senior pupil, such as a prefect.
You may talk confidently to the School Counsellor
What Happens NextThe person you speak to will try to help or go on your behalf to someone who can help, and the matter will only be discussed discretely by staff. The School Counsellor will observe confidentially unless she feels you are in danger.
School ForumIf you have any ideas about how we can improve the School, then ask your Forum Representative to raise it at the next meeting, when the Head can respond either immediately or following investigation.
Anti-BullyingBullying or intimidation of another person by an individual or a group is unacceptable and will be dealt with firmly.
What is bullying?Bullying is repeated hurtful behaviour such as -
• teasing• name calling• threatening• hitting, kicking or punching• taking or damaging another person’s belongings• isolating an individual from the group• sending hurtful or offensive emails, written notes or text messages
Bullying can be other things too if you are left feeling lonely, upset, worried, unsafe or hurt. Teasing, name calling and mockery can be just as distressing as physical bullying. The school is particularly concerned to identify and eliminate cases of bullying based on race, gender, sexual orientation or disability, though many cases of bullying will be treated equally seriously.
What to do if you are being bullied Try to stay calm and look as confident as you can Be firm and clear - look the bully or bullies in the eye and tell them to stop Get away from the situation as quickly as possible
Page 32 of 39
Tell a teacher or prefect - ask a friend to come with you if you are worried about doing this
What to do after the bullying incident Tell your family Do not blame yourself for what has happened
When reporting bullying, be clear about What has happened to you How often has it happened Who was involved Who saw what was happening Where it happened What you have done about it already
What you should do if you are aware that someone is being bullied Tell a teacher or prefect
What you should do if you are the bully Stop it! Seek help to change your behaviour
What will be done Incidents will be investigated sensitively and the issues will be talked through with
everyone involved Appropriate action will be taken to ensure that the bullying stops immediately Remember that if you are being bullied it is likely to get worse if you do not tell
someone The School Counsellor is available to discuss any bullying situation with victims and
bullies should they wish to do so The school’s Bullying Policy can be found on the School’s website.
School CounsellorNabila Ghauri, the School Counsellor, provides a confidential and non-judgemental service to pupils.
Appointments can be made via the School Nurse. A confidential appointment can be made by email:
Appointments are 50 minutes long and take place on Mondays and Fridays in the HR Office.Occasionally there is a waiting list.
