For us, sustainability is not just a buzz word! Our backpacks and bags have been on tour with alpinists, hikers, and clim-bers for 117 years and since the 1980ies also with mountain bikers. We want to build perfect companions for people who are passionate about their sports. Our products are famous (al-most infamous) for their longevity and the low complain rates. Yet we are not made to rest on our laurels! Step by step we want to push and improve in many different areas. Always following our credo: From acorns oak trees grow!So we continuously work on our products in close cooperati-on with our athletes. Our classics are no exception: this is the come-back year of our backpack veterans Zugspitze and Gr-den. They shine in a new refined, classic look and will easily win the hearts of traditionalists and young hikers alike. Our Aircontacts have also undergone an evolution: they are very modern in style and offer even more comfort. The new, fle-xible Active-Fit shoulder straps and the custom fit of the hip wings ensure a perfect, snug fit of the Aircontact back system.Yet Deuter is not just about products. We are a team, we share values and we care about each good working conditions worldwide! For more than two decades weve been working with our Corean production partner Duke. Over the years our sales have grown by 800 % yet still Duke produces 100 % of our backpacks and accessories. It is a very uncommon relation-ship within the textile industry, where brands usually hop from
production site to production site. For us the trustful coopera-tion guarantees a strong influence on working conditions. In 2011 we took the next step by joining the Fair Wear Foundati-on (FWF). And we are very proud to have just been honoured with the FWF Best Practice Award for our efficient measures to reduce overtime in our production facilities in Vietnam. Animal welfare is also an important issue for us. For our slee-ping bags with down filling, weve always used feathers collec-ted as a by-product of the food industry we strictly condemn live-plucking! And we also took an important step here: since June 2015 we exclusively use RDS certified down (Responsible Down Standard) controlled and audited by independent autho-rities.Nepal is one of the poorest, yet one of the most beautiful countries on this planet. We have very special ties to Nepal and were deeply shocked about the quake devastation in Ap-ril 2015. We knew straight away: our long-term support of our primary school in Kathmandu has to continue, but now direct aid was urgent. We can help efficiently by supporting our part-ner, the Nepalhilfe Beilngries. Their aid workers have been pro-viding incredible help in the disaster stricken areas. Every little donation counts

THE DEUTER EXTRA LONG SERIES
Tall people can enjoy a perfect fit with our Extra Long EL-models! Taller sportsmen and -women between 1.85 2 m often have dif-ficulty finding backpacks that fit their longer backs. Our favourite Deuter backpack mod-els are available to suit taller people with ex-tended back lengths by 6-9 cm. Overall, back-packs in the Extra Long (EL) series have also grown in terms of volume. Back systems, fea-tures and details remain the same in the EL models as they are in the standard models, however.

TRAVELOur rucksacks are designed to fit the average athletic build. Howev-er, since not everyone fits the norm it is likely that women's models will fit many male users perfectly well, and vice versa.
SHORTER BACK
Women have in general shorter backs than men. The SL carry systems are therefore shorter than Deuters standard backpacks.
NARROWER SHOULDER STRAPS
with soft edges, smaller buckles and very narrow strap extensions prevent the SL shoul-der straps from chafing or putting unwant-edpressure on the chest area. Since women normally have narrower shoulders, the shoul-der straps are positioned closer together to prevent strap slippage.
CONICAL SHAPED HIP BELT
To fit womens hips comfortably the hip belt should form a conical shape when closed. This conical shape is achieved by the diago-nal construction of the belts anchor points as well as the curved shape of the SL hip fins.
Gerlinde Kaltenbrunner, the first woman to summit all 14 of the worlds 8,000-meter peaks without using supplementary oxygen: Back then not all of the rucksacks were available with a shorter back length. On many of the packs the shoulder straps or hip wings were pretty uncom-fortable. Today, Deuters SL collection includes all packs all customized to the female anatomy.
Angela Vgele, head of the SL team and outdoor lover: We constantly had the feeling the shoulder straps could slip from the shoulders as they were sitting so far outside. After all the changes in 2006 the straps curved around the upper body. What a difference in comfort.
Ragna Krckels, professional mountain and ski guide: In 2006 the backpacks featured wide hip wings where the bottom edge dug in the body, while you could easily stuff a water bottle between your hips and the upper edge. We just knew we had to change the shape and the position of the anchor points.
DEUTER SL-TEAM
Deuters product development team for the womens specific SL line con-sists of female designers and top athletes from all disciplines/sports. Its almost an occupational hab-it that our experts can never stand still. Sinece 2006 they are always pushing forward also when it comes to developing products.

DEUTER BACK SYSTEMS
DEUTER AIRCOMFORT SYSTEMS DEUTER AIRCONTACT SYSTEMS DEUTER ALPINE BACK SYSTEMS
Good backpack ventilation supports the body in regulating its temperature. By opti-mizing the cooling of the body through im-proved airflow and sweat evaporation, the backpack construction not only enhances the comfort, but also the wearers perfor-mance: the less energy you have to generate for cooling (= sweat production), the MORE ENERGY you have for your athletic perfor-mance!
Deuter has developed different systems spe-cifically adapted to the various sports and their specific demands. All of the systems provide highly efficient back ventilation and a fresh climate.
On small to medium backpacks that are at home in easier terrain we go for maximum ventilation. The heart of the Aircomfort systems tested and proven for decades is its flexible spring steel frame. It is extremely durable, provides stable tension for the airy back mesh and creates the ventilation space between pack and wearers back, which lets moist air escape. The highly elastic two spring steel frame construction of the Aircomfort FlexLite achieves maximum freedom of movement at a minimum weight. In larger volume models, the Aircomfort Pro System unites clever mesh back ventilation with effi-cient load transfer with our pivoting Vari Flex hip fins. The result: The maximum ventilation achieved by the Aircomfort mesh construction significantly reduces heat build. According to findings from the acclaimed Hohenstein Institute optimal back ventilation reduces moisture loss by up to 25 %.
The easiest way to carry heavy loads is when backpack and wear-er become one. This is what our Aircontact principle is all about: the body contact system brings the weight close to the body and therefore close to the centre of gravity. This results in full pack con-trol and an effective load transfer. Further, our Aircontact cush-ions made from special hollow chamber foam guarantee fantas-tic ventilation. The foams open pores pumps out warm air when compressed. When extended it sucks in fresh air. The pump effect, therefore, leads to an efficient air exchange. The three different con-structions are adapted to the trip length and style: The clean, re-duced Lite version is perfect for hut-to-hut treks, while the Pro packs are built for very heavy loads that call for a stable V-frame. And the classic Aircontact system with its new custom fit hip wings and flexible shoulder straps are the right choice for those who set out on multi-day trips with tent.
The result: Up to 15 % less sweating as with a standard compact back system (proven in tests conducted by Gabriel L.&T and the University of Erlangen) combined with outstanding load transfer and a secure, perfectly balanced fit.
For alpine backpacks the combination of comfort, durability, func-tionality and low weight is essential. Carrying a heavy, difficult to handle backpack in rough terrain can quickly become a risk and hinder a good balance. Deuters Alpine Back System answers this challenge by focusing on a compact, secure yet comfortable fit with its two flexible softstripe back pads that are perfectly adapted to the anatomy and follow the wearers movements. In combination with the packs sleek shape this keeps the load always close to the centre of gravity thus guaranteeing full pack control and full focus on the terrain. Further, the smart air channel between the two stripes grants excellent ventilation. The result: The system combines a secure, compact fit with a top carry-ing performance and a comfortable ventilation between the two softstripe back pads.

DEUTER AIRSTRIPES SYSTEMS DEUTER SHIELD SYSTEM
... AND ADJUSTING.
PACKING...
The packs center of gravity should sit close to the body and ideally at shoulder height. This way it is positioned over the bodys center of gravity and the pack wont pull backwards. Therefore, put heavy equipment such as tent, food, big jack-ets close to the back in about shoulder height. Place sleeping bag, down equipment and other light objects in the bottom compartment; and midweight gear such as clothing on the top towards the outside. For easy grab, get small, often-used items in the lid pocket. Minimise the number of items you strap to the packs outside and evenly distribute the weight, in particular on the side pockets.
In easy terrain (hiking routes, flat trails) the loads center of gravity should sit higher, in difficult passages (alpine routes, Via Ferrata) a bit lower and thus closer to the bodys center of gravity. This packing system leads to a more forward lean-ing position, yet it provides more balance.
A bike pack always has to sit secure and snug on your back even on the roughest rides. Our unique Airstripes System takes care of that and offers effective ventilation. It consists of two contoured, air-channelled foam profiles that are covered with a highly breath-able Wide AirMesh lining. The reduced contact surface results in an optimized fresh air circulation. The channel between the pads fur-ther enhances the ventilation and provides great freedom of move-ment in the riding position. Also, the packs load is kept close to the body and thus wont throw the rider off balance. On our bigger bike models, the clever Auto-Compress hip belt system adds extra sta-bility: the close set anchor points of the wings provide a super tight, compact fit. The Pull-Forward strap system automatically results in side compression a precise and easy way to adjust the pack. The result: The minimal contact surface area of the profiled Airstripes allows free air circulation over 80 % of the riders back, while still providing a secure, compact fit even on rough rides.
The main purpose of our Shield System is to minimise, or even to a large extent, prevent injury occurring during risk sports. Tested by the TV Product Service in accordance with the industry guidelines for personal safety equipment, the system carries both TV-GS and CE certification. The backpacks material is accurately adapted to the integrated SAS protector a combination that offers the highest safety standard. The dampening heart of the construction is the vis-cose-elastic SC-1 foam by SAS-Tec. Its a smart protector foam that remains soft and flexible in normal use, while on heavy impact the foam resistance grows with increasing speed. It thus delivers excel-lent shock absorption and provides the basis for the protective func-tion. The foam returns to its original shape after the deformation. This memory effect allows the protectors multi-use. The typical V-shape of the construction covers the sensitive areas of the back, whilst retaining the packs outstanding freedom of movement. The high and close set anchor points of the hip wings guarantee a super compact fit even on rough rides.
The result: The TV-GS tested back system combines a comfortable carry, outstanding ventilation in the free spaces between the padding and maximum safety in the event of a fall.
Loosen all straps and put onyour backpack.
1.
Place the hip belt centrally on your hip bone, fasten and tighten.
2.
Now tighten the shoulder straps, so that the main weight rests on the hip belt.
3.
The shoulder strap anchor point-should ideally be positioned between the shoulder blades. Set backpacks with adjusta-ble back-length to the correct height (Vari Quick and Vari Fit System). For small volume Deu-ter packs choose the right back length (Standard, SL, or EL).
4.
For big backpacks, adjust stabiliser and load adjustor straps:tighten > increased stability loosen > increased ventilationVary the load transfer from time to time between waist and shoulder.
5. Finally, fasten the chest strap to optimise the shoulder strap positioning.

CODE OF LABOUR PRACTICES

no exploitationof child labour

We are very proud that in April 2015 the Fair Wear Foundation (FWF) honoured us with its annual Best Practice Award. The story behind it?Providing good working conditions for all of our employees worldwide has been top priority for us for a long time. More than two decades ago weve started the collaboration with our Korean production partner Duke. So many things have changed over the years: since 1997 sales have grown by 800 %! But Duke still produces 100 % of our backpacks and accesso-ries. That is rather uncommon within the textile industry. Most companies hop from production site to production site merely guided by price policy and order volume. In our case, however, the solid and trustworthy relationship with Duke means that we have a strong influence on the working conditions. In 2011 we made an important step by becoming a member of the Fair Wear Foundation (FWF). It is an independent, non-profit organisation that works with companies, fac-tories and trade unions to im-prove labour conditions in the textile and clothing industry, particularly in low-wage coun-tries. Today about 80 member companies represent over 120 brands and the FWF is active in 15 production countries in Asia, Europe and Africa. By joining the organisation we have complied to its strict Code of Labour Practices: no forced la-bour, no discrimination in employment, no child labour, free-dom of association and the right to collective bargaining, pay-ment of a living wage, no excessive working hours, safe and
healthy working conditions and legally-binding employment re-lationship. The Code is verified by independent FWF auditors. We were aware of the issue of excessive working hours in our production sites yet after the audits we were confronted with the facts black-on-white: heavy overtime during peak season at the sites of our partner Duke in Vietnam. In January 2011 they amounted to more than 25 excessive hours a week in some departments. And the report stated cases with 89 ex-cessive working hours a month! We want to ensure the health and well-being of the workers and also believe that excessive overtime has a negative impact on the quality of our products. Excessive working hours are a common problem in the textile industry. The issue is quite complex since workers like to do overtime because it is paid at premium rates: 150 % on normal working days and 200 % on Sundays and 300 % on holidays.
But there is also the problem of managing global processes efficiently: in close cooperation with our partners we are con-tinuously working on an even, steady capacity utilization. It sounds like an easy task yet it is not. At our headquarters we plan the orders for the German market, while about half of the

products are sold internationally via importers. The distributors in the respective countries have their own planning systems and can place their orders independently. We now shift more orders to the low season offering sale appeals and setting up precise specifications and earlier deadlines. We further focus on early order placements, improving the fac-tories efficiency, staff training, overtime monitoring and wage increase. We are on a good way: we were able to significantly reduce ex-cessive working hours since 2011. A working week of six days is common in Asia, but there was hardly any work on Sundays. We have not yet achieved our goal of 48 hours plus an over-time of 12 hours per week and a maximum of 300 a year. We are working with our partners on a continuous improvement! We were now honoured by the FWF for our measures: at its annual conference in April 2015 in Amsterdam the FWF rec-ognized us with the Best Practice Award out of 12 nominated member projects. This very special award shows us how much the FWF values our efforts and it encourages us strongly to continue our chosen path, step by step, to improve working conditions worldwide.

TREKKING
AIRCONTACT SYSTEM
The light way to carry heavy weight: The Aircontact system perfectly adapts to the wearers back and holds the load close to the bodys centre of gravity. With every movement, a pump effect circulates air through the breathable padding with special venti-lating hollow chamber. The result: 15%* less perspi-ration than with other body-contour packs.
(*Proven in a field test conducted by Gabriel L.&T. in cooperation with the
University of Erlangen/Germany.)
The Vari Flex hip fins follow even the most complex movements especially important when carrying a hefty load.
The pull forward function makes the hip belt easy to fasten even with heavy loads.
Additional load adjustment straps on the shoulder straps allow optimal positioning of the backpack. These are easily positioned on the shoulder straps using a Triglide buckle. Air-contact models above 50+10 SL sizes also have two different fixing points, depending on the back length setting, in order to optimize the load adjus-tor strap angle.
The new Active Fit shoulder straps are flexible and automatically adapt to the shoulders width and an-gle. Their anatomical S-shape follows the neck and shoulder contour and thus prevents chafing or pressure points.
The new, complex 3D-shape of the hip fins guarantees an outstanding fit. They are made from multiple layers com-bining soft and firm foam with additional reinforcement. Thus they even-ly distribute the load on the hips without any pressure points. Side com-pression straps on the fins regulate the weight and increase stability. On the smaller models the fins are softer, while the bigger packs come with more stable foam.
The ergonomic head moulding
provides perfect head clearance. (from Aircontact 50+10 SL).
The anatomic profiled X-frame transfers weight on the hips.
The crossed aluminium stays create a flexible, yet stable frame that follows your body movements.
The proven Vari Quick systemguarantees easy adjustment to
any back length. The new back panel construction creates a big contact surface making it even more compact and
comfortable to carry.

Anatomically shaped shoulder straps with 3D AirMesh lining. Heavy duty construction with spe-
cial dual layer foams.
Height adjustable load adjustment straps on the shoulder straps for precise pack positioning.
Two ergonomically formed V-shape multi-chamber
aluminium stays, direct part of the load from the back to the hips.
With the stepless Vari Fit system the pack can be easily adjusted to the individual wearers back.
Back padding with ventilating Aircontact hollow chamber
foam technology and durable 3D AirMesh lining wicks away warmth

Deuters Vari Flex system certainly defines the flexibility of this carrying system. The pivoting hip fins follow complex body movements. Thus, the load can be evenly distributed to the hips, providing freedom of movement and reducing fatigue. Two sturdy GRP-rods and load adjustment straps on the hip fins allow for precision load control. The Vari Flex system and aluminium stays form the core of the carrying system, which com-bines stability, efficient load transfer, perfect load control and incredible flexibility.
When fastened, the hip fins taper upwards in a conical form.
The fins are concave and ultra-padded and sit perfectly on the hips. The multi-layered, PE-stiffened foam spreads the load evenly. The Pull-Forward construction makes the hip belt easy
to fasten even with even heavy loads.
Our super robust Aircontact Pro carries heavy loads with ease. The mobile hip fins diligently follow every movement and dis-tribute the weight evenly, while the technical Vari Fit back is individually adjustable. Thus the big packs offer what you need for heavy haulage: stability, efficient load transfer and incred-ible flexibility.

Manfred Lindner (2. von links), zweiter Vorstand der Nepalhilfe
Beilngries, Kathmandu; Nepal
Die Deuter Primary School bietet Platz fr 400 Grundschler.Kathmandu; Nepal
Nepal is a dream destination for many of us for alpinists, for trekkers as well as for mountain bikers. We are lured by the worlds highest peaks and are welcomed (and amazed) by warm, spiritual, hospitable, and smiling people despite the fact that it is one of the poorest countries in the world. Out of those personal encounters many humanitarian projects have grown.Almost 15 years ago, our long-term CEO and 8000er alpinist Bernd Kullmann was interviewed by a German television pro-gramme on the Mount Everest. The show also hosted Karl Re-bele who was then chairman of the aid organisation Nepalhilfe Beilngries. Bernd Kullmann spontaneously donated his appear-ance fees and collected more money shorty after at his 50th birthday celebration. The ties became closer over the years: in April 2013 we were celebrating the inauguration of the Deuter Primary School. It used to be the oldest school in Kathmandu and the building was in unbearable condition. Manfred Lindner from the Nepalhilfe Beilngries says: The rooms looked more like stables and didnt resemble a school at all. The new three-level building has ten classrooms and provides a perfect learn-ing environment for 400 students. Deuter contributed 32.000 Euro to the overall construction sum of 130.000 Euro. And we surprised the students with school bags and pencil cases at the opening ceremony. Weve been supporting the organi-sation for about five years now and it feels so good to have

that school. The close cooperation ensures efficient help and thats fantastic to know and to see, says Angela Vgele who is in charge of the cooperation at Deuter. She underlines that
Now it is important to respond to the urgent needs in this small, beautiful country. The first heavy quake struck Kathman-du on a Saturday a school-free day. So fortunately none of the students were harmed in the Deuter Primary School. The building was only slightly damaged and can be used again after a few repairs. But the Nepalhilfe Beilngries supports all in all 24 schools in many regions, as well as several hospital wards, a childrens home with 35 orphans and many other pro-jects such as homes for the elderlies, a training institution for seamstresses, farmland and a vocational training school. After the quake Manfred Lindner had sad news: The Sindhupalchok district, where most of our schools are based, has been strong-ly ravaged by the quake. 90 % of the buildings have been de-stroyed or severely damaged. Emergency relief, therefore, was the main focus after the disaster. In the first few weeks, the Nepalhilfe Beilngries distributed 55 tons of rice, 1.5 tons of len-tils, 1.8 tons of salt, 1.250 l of oil and almost 1.000 sanitary sets in 17 villages, as well as 4.000 sleeping bags that were donated by our Taiwanese manufacturer. Also, the Deuter em-
ployees started collecting internally raising 1.000 Euro. With an additional 5.000 Euro from Deuter Sport GmbH, the brand was able to donate 6.000 Euro to support the incredible work delivered by the Nepalhilfe. We hope that the wounds in Nepal will heal. That the buildings will be re-erected and that the new generation will find its way out of poverty with good education. And we are more than happy to support them on their way.

ALPINE BACK SYSTEM
ALPINE
The way up the Cosmique route to the Aiguille du Midi;
Chamonix, France;
Birgit Gelder
Ergonomic and removable X-frame with curved profile aluminium stays (removable) perfectly transfers the load on the hip wings (on models Guide and Rise Tour).
Removable insulating sitting matstabilises the back.
Compact hip fins ensure perfect weight transfer and a stable fit with PE-reinforcement on the bigger models.
Flexible Delrin U-frame in the models Freerider Pro, Guide Lite and Rise provides stability and effective load transfer with minimum extra weight. It follows the most varied movements with absolute ease.
Ergonomically shaped shoulder straps lined with breathable 3D AirMesh. SL shoulder straps feature extra comfortable soft edges.
Removable, pivoting Vari Flex hip fins follow any movement, which saves energy and provides great freedom of movement even in difficult passages. The hip fins can be easily removed on the models Gu-ide, Rise Pro, Rise Tour, and Freerider Pro. Advanta-ges: weight reduction and better access to the climbing harness. The backpack can thus be carried just with the waist strap, which is also removable (on models Guide, Rise Pro and Rise Tour).
Load adjustor straps on the shoulder straps and hip fins serve to fine-tune the load according to the terrain.
Body-hugging soft stripe pads follow even rapid movements and keep the load close to the bodys centre of gravity essential in difficult terrain. The channel between the pads provides extra comfort by creat-ing a chimney effect ventilation.

ONTOP ABS
DEUTER ALPINE BACK SYSTEM
ABS AVALANCHEAIRBAG SYSTEM
ONTOP ABS
ONTOP TOUR ABS
The long proven and repeat-edly awarded back system combines a compact, secure fit with maximum carrying comfort and comfortable ventilation.
Pyrotechnic-pneumatic activationA quick pull with little force and the system inflates irrevers-ibly at the speed of sound. Within a few moments, the ABS TwinBags inflate. Without compromise, quickly and with ab-solute certainty.
See and flee The ABS TwinBag system can be activated without hesita-tion at the first sign of an avalanche. Nothing hinders the attempt to escape and nothing blocks the view or restricts movement, but you are protected right from the start.
Maximum visibilityIn 97 % of all documented avalanche accidents with activat-ed airbags, the TwinBags were visible on the surface. The time-consuming, highly stressful and errorprone search in difficult terrain is avoided.
Easy pack and useSimple and safe to pack and quickly ready again for operation after recommended training activation or in an emergency.
SAFETY MEETS COMFORT
Highest survival rateOut of 262 persons with activated ABS avalanche airbag, 97 % survived, and 84 % were uninjured. (Source: SLF, known and documented avalanche ac-cidents with ABS avalanche airbags, August 2010)
German engineeringThe original ABS self-rescue system developed, manufactured and tested by avalanche experts since 1985. Survival made in Germany.
Double safety Even if one of the two ABS TwinBags is damaged, there is usually sufficient remaining volume to pre-vent total burial.
Dynamic liftThe wide bearing surface due to laterally placed ABS TwinBags stabilizes the body and increases the lift precisely in the critical avalanche runout zone.

Very good pack plus very good system equals very good avalanche airbag rucksack. This is the OnTop verdict of Germanys ALPIN magazine (01/15) in their test of more or less all the airbag packs available on the market. The best in test award for our OnTop 30 further confirms our conviction to always stay on top. The 28 and 30 l capacity models are classic packs for day tours. We trust in the proven ABS Twinbag system that inflates to a total volume of 170 l in mere seconds and we combine it with our legendary Alpine Back system. Safety that fits also on the womens back with the female specific SL model!
