Dear Family Member or Person with ASD,

I would like to invite your participation in a summer initiative that is an annual part of EKU’s Autism Certificate Program

for EKU graduate students in Occupational Therapy, Psychology, Communication Disorders, and Special Education.

Each summer I teach a course about the autism spectrum. Graduate students enrolled in the course will be asked to

complete an assessment and intervention planning project with a person with autism and/or their family (for children).

The process will use the promising CAPS and Ziggurat models to assess the unique strengths and needs of the person with

autism and will result in a short written feedback report that families can keep for their own use or share with an

education or intervention team. Past participants have enjoyed the ideas and suggestions that our students have provided

in the little report.

If you are interested and are selected to participate, you would be asked to complete two quick written measures about

yourself/your family member with ASD. You would also participate in interview/meeting planning processes for

approximately 2 hours, scheduled at your convenience. Finally, a graduate student may ask to observe or meet with the

family member with autism. If meeting isn’t comfortable for the person with autism, the student can instead view a video

of the person. These meetings would take place at a time and location of your convenience during June or July, 2019.

These activities and the resulting report would of course be provided at no charge to you. Please feel free to e-mail me

([email protected]) with any questions and with your answers to the questions below. We appreciate your

participation in our clinic and your consideration of our summer project.

Sincerely,

Myra Beth Bundy, Ph.D.
