D. Brinkmeier - This workshop will cover basic concepts of scheduling in the child
care setting.
7 - 9 Hour Communication Module-Communicate as A Professional Early Educator
(P, CO) 9am - 6pm Windsor Park Children’s School $50 D. Martin - Work toward speaking
and writing clearly to insure effective communication in childcare and preschool settings.
Participants will learn communication techniques for relationship building with families,
participate in interactive activities and practice writing and speaking purposefully with co-
workers, families, children and the public. Topics will include written and verbal communi-

involves listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. The excitement of learning
to read and write should be as rewarding as a child’s first words and steps. Join us
as we share numerous activities to help build a child’s interest and skill in reading.

designed for providers and parents of young children. Meets Office of Child Care
guidelines. Certificate expires two years from date of issue.

the child care setting.
11- Beginners Sign Language (SN) 6-9pm Ste.129 $25 L. Harris - This workshop will help individuals in the use of beginning sign language for immediate communica-tion and/or the preparation for teaching children.
12 – Stopping Biting Behaviors (CD) 6-9pm Ste 112 $25 B. Strama - Biting can be
one of the most challenging behaviors caregivers face. Working together, parents
and educators can identify reasons for a child's biting and respond accordingly.
We will discuss strategies to teach children age-appropriate ways to control
themselves and take the proper measures to prevent further incidents.
12 - CPR Only for Infant Child & Adult 6-10pm Ste. 129 $30– Paramedical Per-
sonnel- This workshop is designed for providers and parents of young children.
Meets Office of Child Care guidelines. Certificate expires two years from date of

14– Child Portfolios:A Snapshot of Success (CD) 12-3pm Ste.112 A.Sibiski - A
snapshot of their success, not failure. Learn how to document a child’s growth and
development. A portfolio last a lifetime and goes with a child as they grow.
14- Emergency and Disaster Preparedness (HSN, P) 9am-3pm Ste. 129 $30 D.
Martin - This class is designed for caregivers to become familiar with COMAR
regulations regarding emergency and disaster preparedness for child care pro-
grams. Participants will complete a written emergency and disaster plan for their
child care program; gain an understanding of disasters that are most likely to
occur in Maryland and know why child care programs should prepare for emergen-
cies and disasters. This workshop meets the 6-hour COMAR requirement effec-
tive July 1, 2010, for centers, family providers, and family child care applicants.

17- Nutrition & Obesity (HSN) 6:30-9:30pm Ste. 112 $25 K. Trafton - This course will
teach proper nutritional guidelines for children, as well as address and define the
growing problem of obesity in our country. Strategies for dealing with obesity in chil-
dren through nutrition, education and exercise will be addressed.
17- Dealing with Difficult Parents (CO) 6:30-9:30pm Ste.129 $25 B.Strama -
Every caregiver has to deal with a difficult parent from time to time. Strategies
will be shared to help manage parents who are defensive, angry, bullying, blaming,
complaining, or disagreeable.

19- Avoiding Provider Burnout (P) 6-9pm Ste 112 $25 A.Araujo - Working with
young children can be a challenge. Have you ever felt like you’ve had enough of
the day to day stress that can weigh you down in child care? You’re not alone;
there are many people who feel the same way. There is help! In this training, we
will learn strategies for avoiding burnout in childcare and share steps to being
stress free.

will find creative ways to use ordinary and diverse materials found in any home to
stimulate children’s imaginations, inspire storytelling and interactions between children,
and serve to launch children into such creative activities as drawing, collage making,

20 - SIDS-Sudden Infant Death Syndrome 9:30am-11:30am Ste. 129 $20 J.
Edwards - In this workshop you will learn about safe sleep environments to help
reduce the risk for SIDS and other infant death.
21- Medication Administration (HSN) 9am-3pm Ste. 112 $55 K. Rowland -
Office of Child Care approved Medication Administration Training teaches all
aspects of giving medication safely in your center to all ages of children. This
includes liquids, pills, capsules, topicals, epi-pens and also general information on
inhalers. You will even learn how to properly wash your hands. *Please bring a lunch. *LIMIT 10*
21 - Family Portraits (CO) 9am-3pm Ste.129 $30 D.Martin - Participants will
learn how to support parents and children and enhance their sense of compe-
tence by helping them gain the skills needed to cope with family stressors.

service and continued training requirements for directors of child care centers,
effective 1 July 2008. This workshop will cover basic concepts of general and
marketing communications in the child care setting.
24 - Using Basic Sign Language (SN) 6-9pm Ste.129 $25 Lionel Harris - This
workshop will help individuals in the use of basic sign language for immediate
communication and/or the preparation for teaching children.
24 - Conflict Resolution (P) 6-9pm Ste 112 $25 K. Thomas - Conflict is a normal
part of children's lives. However, when conflict is poorly managed it has a nega-
tive impact on children's relationships, on their self-esteem and on their learn-
ing. This workshop provides strategies to use for teaching children problem
solving skills.
25 - Administrative Course #14 Communication Part 2 (P, CO) 6:30-9:30p

pre-service and continued training requirements for directors of child care
centers, effective 1 July 2008. This workshop will cover basic concepts of

26 - Guidance for the Child with Special Needs (SN) 6-9pm Ste. 112 $25
J.Chambers - Participants will discuss possible causes of children’s behavior
and how to use appropriate positive supports to reduce behavioral challenges
and improve social relationships for the child with special needs..
26 - Working with Mixed Ages (CU) 6-9pm Ste. 129 $25 N. Massey - This
workshop is designed to help caregivers identify and address the challenges
of working with mixed age groups of children. Strategies for meeting and
understanding the needs of all individuals in the group will be offered.
28- First Aid 8:30am-12:30pm Ste. 129 $30 Paramedical Personnel- This is
a nationally recognized program that meets the OSHA standard for first aid
training. Workshop includes: Good Samaritan, emergency response, triage,
patient exam, BSI, bleeding, shock, burns, strains, sprains, fractures, splint-
ing, spinal injury, medical emergency, asthma, diabetic, seizure, allergic
reaction, stroke, poisoning, plants, bites, stings, heat, cold, and specific body
injuries. Meets Office of Child Care guidelines. Certification for First Aid
expires in two years.
28- CPR 1-5pm Ste. 129 $30 Paramedical Personnel- The American Heart
Association Pediatric CPR program which includes Child CPR, Infant CPR,
Child Choking, Infant Choking. This program also deals with safety issues like
home, car, and playground. Meets Office of Child Care guidelines. Certifica-
tion for CPR expires in two years.
30- Administrative Course #15 Reporting (P) 6:30-9:30pm Ste. 112 $20
D. Brinkmeier - This workshop will cover basic concepts of reporting proce-
dures in the child care setting.
31 - Encouraging Language and Literacy from the Dollar Store (CU) 6-9pm
Ste.112 $25 J.Lentz - Do you love shopping at the dollar store? If you answered
YES, then this workshop is for you. You will learn how to use items found at the
dollar store to engage children in activities to enhance language and literacy in your
program.
31 - Science: Explore Your World (CU) 6-9pm Ste. 129 $25 E.Chapman -
Everyday activities that offer opportunities to learn about science will be
shared in this workshop. Your budding scientists will be captivated as they
experience science and the role it plays in our everyday lives.

class provides information on the Maryland Child Care Credential Program
that recognized child care providers who go beyond the requirements of
state licensing and registration regulations. Come learn about the 6 levels
and how to get a bonus check for each!!
1 - Understanding Learning Disabilities (SN) 6-9pm Ste.129 $25
B.Strama - Participants will gain an understanding of how learning dis-
abilities look in pre-school aged children. ‘Walk in the shoes’ of children
with learning disabilities, as well as learn the most common forms and
signs of LD.
4 - Pre-Service Mod #1-From Baby Steps to Bigger Steps: What

child development concepts including stages of child growth and develop-
ment, overview of the leading child theorists and of learning differences.

4 - Pre-Service Mod #2-Planning for Success: Creating Opportunities

workshop will give participants a better understanding of components of
a family child care curriculum, how to create a developmentally appropri-
ate curriculum and how to plan and design a family child care program.
6 - 45 hour Infant Toddler Course 6 -9pm - Note: This course meets

Martin - This course satisfies the requirement for 45 hours of Infant/
Toddler development required by the State of Maryland for Child Care
Teacher Infant & Toddler (formerly Senior Staff) and Directors in child
care centers licensed for infants and toddlers under two years of age.
7 - Creative Drama for Children with Special Needs
(SN) 6-9pm Ste.112 $25 J.Chambers - Creative Drama is an improvisa-
tional process-centered form of drama in which special needs children
are guided by the teacher to reflect upon a human experience, using
children’s stories. The purpose of Creative Drama is to foster personal-
ity growth and to facilitate learning of the children. Creative Drama may
be used to teach the art of drama and/or motivate and extend the
learning in other content areas.

- Learn the basics of creating and maintaining a safe
playground/outdoor learning area for young children in
child care. Training is based on The Maryland State
Department of Education’s Playground and Water Safety Guidelines document from the Division of Early Childhood

- It is always difficult to deal with a child that is misbe-
having, but some are more challenging than others. In this
session, strategies will be offered to deal with challenging
behaviors.

ments in health, behavioral and developmental issues and

13 - Overview of ITERS (Infant/Toddler Environmental

about the Environmental Rating Scale used to assess the
quality and appropriateness of classrooms and programs
for Infants and Toddlers. Environmental Rating Scales are
a part of both accreditation, credentialing, and other
quality initiatives in the state. Develop strategies to
improve the overall quality of your program.

This workshop is designed to help participants determine
what triggers anger and develop strategies to keep those
triggers from tipping us over the edge. This session will
focus on the communication process as a whole and how
positive communication can be used in managing anger.

Patty Stine/Jean Schappet - Storytelling can be the best
way to give children new information, introduce concepts
and show how story characters face problems and resolve
them. Learn how to get ready for a story with “a story
frame of mind” before the story begins, hold their atten-
tion throughout the story and reinforce the storyteller’s
purpose by using various ways to retell stories with chil-
dren.
16 - Creating Sociable Children (CD) 6:30-9:30pm
Ste 112 $25 A.Araujo - This course is designed to discuss
reasons why children may be less socialized in today’s
society. Discuss barriers to socialization. Learn age appro-
priate methods and activities to help students learn man-
ners, social skills and conflict resolution skills.

course is designed to help providers understand what
developmentally appropriate art for each age group.
Through hands-on art activities, participants will gain ideas
for creative art to use with young children in their pro-

happen in playful moments. Laughter is an effective way
to strengthen the learning process. In this workshop you
will learn easy activities that harness the power of laugh-
ter to encourage children to be creative, learn sequencing
skills, develop phonemic awareness, use their imaginations,
develop listening skills, and work with rhymes and lan-
guage.

delays, and how they impact children’s ability to complete

Brinkmeier - Designed to satisfy the 90 hour requirement
as stated in COMAR 07.04.01 for directors and child care
preschool teachers (formally called senior staff) in group
child care centers. Course provides student with in-depth
view of the child, who she/he is, the individual needs ,
development needs and how child care teachers can help.
In-class sessions will cover opportunities to observe and
work with children, identifying developmentally appropri-
ate curriculum, lesson plans, activities and the daily opera-
tion of a child care center.

children can be a challenge. Have you ever felt like you’ve had enough of the day
to day stress that can weigh you down in child care? You’re not alone; there are
many people who feel the same way. There is help! In this training, we will learn
strategies for avoiding burnout in childcare and share steps to being stress free.
4 - Autism: Unlocking the Puzzle (SN) 6:30-9:30pm Ste. 129 $25 K. Trafton The
purpose of the class is to increase awareness, recognize certain signs and symp-
toms, and appropriate ways to care for an autistic child in your program.
6 - More than Magnets (CU) 6-9pm Ste. 112 $25 J.Lentz - At heart, every young
child is a scientist, seeking explanations for each new phenomenon. Participants
will learn a variety of strategies and activities to provide for children of all ages,
including those with special needs, to encourage scientific thinking and explora-
tion, and recognize that science is more than just magnets!
6 - Conflict Resolution (P) 6-9pm Ste. 129 $25 K.Thomas- Conflict is a normal
part of children's lives. However, when conflict is poorly managed it has a nega-
tive impact on children's relationships, on their self-esteem and on their learning.
This workshop provides strategies to use for teaching children problem solving
skills.
8 - Developing Life Skills for the 21st Century (CD, C) 9am-3pm Suite 112 $30 K.
Thomas - It isn’t easy being a child in today’s world. This six hour module concentrates
on developing thinking, problem solving and communication skills as well as building posi-
tive relationships, self-discipline, and conflict resolution.
8- Emergency and Disaster Preparedness (HSN, P) 9am-3pm Ste. 129 $30 D.
Martin - This class is designed for caregivers to become familiar with COMAR
regulations regarding emergency and disaster preparedness for child care pro-
grams. Participants will complete a written emergency and disaster plan for their
child care program; gain an understanding of disasters that are most likely to
occur in Maryland and know why child care programs should prepare for emergen-
cies and disasters. This workshop meets the 6-hour COMAR requirement effec-
tive July 1, 2010, for centers, family providers, and family child care applicants.

11 - Dealing with Difficult Parents (CO) 6-9pm Ste.112 $25 B.Strama - Every
caregiver has to deal with a difficult parent from time to time. Strategies will be
shared to help manage parents who are defensive, angry, bullying, blaming, com-
plaining, or disagreeable.
11 - Cooking with Kids (HSN) 6-9pm Ste. 129 $25 E.Chapman - This class will have
your children helping in the kitchen from an early age! Prepare tasty and nutritious
snacks and meals that only require a few ingredients. This class is designed to teach
children the basics about cooking, kitchen safety and nutrition while offering fun simple
recipes.
12 - Developmentally Appropriate Practices (CU) 6-9pm Wards Chapel Preschool $25
S.Glisan - This course addresses characteristics of a developmentally appropriate
curriculum by focusing on three main components: age-appropriateness, social/
cultural appropriateness, and individual appropriateness. Participants will identify
challenges with implementing DAP and brainstorm strategies for ensuring DAP in
their programs.

designed to provide practical strategies and ideas for including children with
disabilities such as ADHD, Learning Disabilities and physical disabilities in activi-

shop is for you. You will learn how to use items found at the dollar store to en-

cultures, generations and differences of others help to develop effective work-
ing relationships. This class will focus on ways to integrate elements of that

center director interested in going through the MSDE accreditation process?
Join us for an Orientation to Accreditation. MSDE Accreditation is a voluntary,
year long process of quality improvement and documentation completed by child
care centers in Maryland. Participants will receive a 2-hour certificate following the session. 20 - Taxes & Recordkeeping 6-9pm Ste. 112 $25 D. Martin - All providers should keep
good records of their income and expenses throughout the year. As a self-employed
independent business owner, this course is designed to help providers with the best
practices for recordkeeping. Topics covered will be organization of records, tax infor-
mation and receipts.

Edwards - In this workshop you will learn about safe sleep environments to help
reduce the risk for SIDS and other infant death.

This course teaches all aspects of giving medication safely in your center to
all ages of children. This includes liquids, pills, capsules, topicals, epi-pens
and also general information on inhalers. You will even learn how to properly

22 - Tools for Tantrums (Positive Child Guidance) (CD) 9am-3pm Ste.129
$30 Patty Stine/Jean Schappet - Children’s control for their behavior is
often conditional - what happened last night, this morning or two seconds
ago affects their choices. As we work with children to inspire self-control
there are techniques and skills we can use along the way to help guide them.
These are easily mastered practices you can implement the very next day
after the workshop in your own program. This session covers the behavior
of children from babies through school-age.

Workshop Registration Information Workshops are approved for training credit by the MSDE Office of Child Care Credentialing Branch
Registrations. ALL workshop participants must pre-register; meaning, participants must register AND PAY for workshops in advance. Registration is accepted by phone, mail, or in
person. The training line for phone-in registration is operational from 8:30am-3:30pm, Monday through Friday. Visa or Mastercard required for all registrations done by phone. Mail
registration form to Child Care Links, Inc., 1101 North Point Boulevard, Suite 112, Baltimore, MD 21224 Attn: Registration Office. Child Care Links does not accept personal checks A
confirmation receipt will be mailed within 1-2 business days from the date of registration, except in the situation that registration is received less than 3 days prior to your scheduled
workshop.
Fees paid are NON-REFUNDABLE. Should you miss a workshop, credit or transfer to another workshop may be given if Child Care Links is notified prior to the workshop. If after
hours, please leave a message on CCL’s answering service. No credit or refunds are issued for “no shows”. Call 410-288-5942 with any questions or concerns about our refund or credit
policies. Any credits issued are good for one year from date of issue.
Late arrivals. Workshops begin at the stated time. Our instructors reserve the right to refuse admittance to any workshop for any participant arriving 15 minutes or more past the
start of the workshop. Credit or transfer will be issued at the discretion of Child Care Links staff for any participant turned away from training for lateness.
Cancellation and change policy. Child Care Links reserves the right to change the location, class size, or trainer for any class as deemed necessary. Child Care Links also may need to
occasionally cancel a workshop due to a lack of enrollment; in this event, a CCL staff member will contact you at the phone number or address you provided upon registration. If we need
to cancel a workshop and you do not wish to be transferred to another training, you will be issued credit good for one year or refunded fees paid for the canceled workshop. If you are
phoning in your registration please verify that we have the correct contact information, including more than one telephone number where you can be reached.
Rude and/or disrespectful behavior during workshops will not be tolerated. Please remember to exercise good judgment and respect for both the trainer and other participants in
your session. It is okay to disagree with facts or opinions presented by the trainer or other participants but please remember to remain professional. Should you violate this policy, the
instructor may ask you to leave the workshop and you will not be re-admitted, nor will you receive a refund for the class.
Certificates. Core of Knowledge certificates will be issued at the conclusion of the training session for all participants who successfully complete all requirements set forth for the
course. There will be a $5 charge for replacement training certificates .
Child care is not provided during workshops. Workshops provided by Child Care Links are intended for adults only. Please make other arrangements for care of your children during
workshop hours.
Workshop locations. The majority of workshops are held at the CCL main office, 1101 North Point Boulevard, Suites 112 & 129. Should your workshop be held at an off-site location,
you will be notified upon or at registration of the address and directions.
Inclement Weather Policy. Please note that the training department of Child Care Links follows the Baltimore County Public School Systems inclement weather policy for closings and
delayed openings. If you are scheduled for a workshop and Baltimore County schools close for inclement weather, our workshop will be canceled. During the weekend our workshops will
be canceled if Baltimore County goes into Phase One of their snow emergency plan. If, for any reason, this changes, a CCL staff member will contact you. Attempts will be made to
reschedule any canceled workshop.
