He was raising the trailer to clean out remnants of the previous load when it made contact with the line. He died from electrocution. A 54-year-old self-employed haulage director was killed beneath straw bales. He was working alone at night, when the load appears to have slipped from the lorry landing on him. He died from crush injuries. A 72-year-old farm employee was killed between a hedge cutter and a large bale. He had reversed the tractor mounted hedge cutter into a barn and removed retaining pins. The machine became unstable and toppled over. He was pinned against a large bale and died from serious crush injuries. Wales

A 78-year-old self-employed farmer was killed when he fell off a roof. He was carrying out renovation and repair work and fell off the roof edge. There was no guard rail and the ladder hadn’t been secured to stop it moving. A 43-year-old self-employed farm director was killed when his mini tractor and trailer overturned on a steep slope. The tractor was not fitted with a ROPS (Roll-over protective structure). He was crushed. A 66-year-old self-employed farmer was killed unblocking an auger in a grain silo. He sank under free flowing grain and was asphyxiated. A 79-year-old self-employed livestock haulier was killed when he was hit by his vehicle tailgate as he was about to unload cattle. It appears the tailgate dropped suddenly hitting his head. A 56-year-old self-employed farm partner was killed when crushed beneath a vehicle that had been lifted with a telehandler. A 20-year-old woman was killed when she was entangled on a PTO shaft (power take- off). She was working near a running animal feed milling machine and became caught on the rotating shaft. West Midlands A 64-year-old self-employed contractor was killed when his tractor and trailer overturned on a steep field. He was found outside of the cab and had been crushed when the vehicle rolled. East Midlands A 61-year-old self-employed contractor was killed when struck by a precast concrete panel falling off a telehandler. He was helping the farmer put up a farm building and was standing near the machine to check panels were correctly positioned. Yorkshire and the Humber

A 79-year-old self-employed farmer was killed when he was crushed and trapped in the gap between a seed drill and tractor. He was attempting to uncouple the machine with the tractor engine running and it appears he may have operated the external controls. A 47-year-old gamekeeper was killed when his quad bike (ATV) overturned at night during rabbit shooting. He was found without a helmet under the bike at the bottom of a field. He died from asphyxiation. An 80-year-old farm employee was struck and run over in the farm yard by a telehandler moving bales. North East A 61-year-old member of the public was killed when attacked by cattle as she walked with her family. The farmer was moving cattle from overwintering quarters to fields along a bridleway when he lost control of a number of animals. It is believed one of the cows butted the woman. Scotland

A 57-year-old self-employed farmer was killed when crushed beneath a wall and a steel door. He was demolishing a building when part of it collapsed. The machine struck the unsecured gate which knocked his father onto the barn floor. He died from head injuries. A 69-year-old self-employed farmer was killed by a cow. He tried to escape from an enclosure after the cow became agitated. He appears to have tried to climb out over a gate and was crushed as the gate fell over. A 58-year-old self-employed forestry contractor was killed when felling a tree. As it fell, it struck another tree that was ‘hung up’ (previously felled and stuck in a leaning position against a standing tree). He was struck by the tree butt as it kicked up, causing fatal internal injuries. A 3 year-old child was killed when run over by a reversing telehandler driven by his father. He was playing in the farm yard without supervision. His father was distributing chopped silage in the cow sheds then reversed into the yard area and ran over his son, causing head injuries.
