Chennai International Youth Fest '18 1st to 15th September 2018

The Chennai International Youth Fest 2018 (CIYF'18) Edition II - World's biggest Youth

Conclave in India jointly organised by Youth Development Consortium (YDC) with

Government of India and hosted by Government of Tamilnadu was scheduled from 1st to 15th

September 2018. The UG and PG students represented our university cricket team emerged as

winners. The represented students of our department are as follows

Students Donor Programmes

The III BCom& BBA students of SCSVMV offered Blanket and food for 50 needy poor people

in and around Kanchipuram on the eve of Diwali.

The students of Management Studies & Commerce extended their financial support of ₹4632 to

the affected population of Gaja cyclone in the form of 15 boxes of water cans, 344 packets of

biscuits and a box containing clothes on 21-11-2018 to the Department of Disaster Management,

Collectorate and Tahsildarof Kanchipuram District.

needy population of Kerala in the cause of

flood during the month of October.

Village support Programme 04-10-2018

The III year Commerce students of SCSVMV engaged in the village support programme to

Vaiyavur village, Kanchipuram on 04-10-2018. In connection to that the students visited

Vaiyavur Government High School and offered motivational talk to the school students in the

avenue of preparation for Government Public examinations. A special mentoring session was

arranged to female school students about the precautionary mechanism for women safety. The

students also met the rural entrepreneurs in the village and provided tips on prospective business

skill development. Dr.T.Thirumaleswari and Dr.G.Sivagurunathan, faculty members of

Management Studies & Commerce coordinated the event.

Programmes/Events conducted by thestudents

26-10-2018

The III year BBA students of SCSVMV organised ADZAP for under graduate Commerce and

business administration students on 26-10-2018 in MBA seminar Hall. Dr.K.Latha, Coordinator

for Commerce delivered the welcome address, inaugural address was delivered by

Prof.Dr.K.P.V.RamanaKumar, followed by felicitation given by

Dr.M.S.Ramaratnam.Dr.Hemanarayanan&Dr.M.Sivakumar, MBA Department, Sankara Arts

and Science College were the Chief Guests for the event. Mrs.C.Sonia and MS.G.Ranjani

coordinated the event. Social issues were emphasized in ADZAP. It was conducted in two

modes - Visual presentation (Short Film) and On Stage Performance. Totally there were 16

groups from BBA and B.Com. Three teams were selected for On Stage Performance and four

teams for Visual Presentation as winners.

Students Activities

Mock Parliament 21-02-2018

The mock parliament session was organised by the Faculty of Management Studies, Commerce & HR on

19.02.2018 at MBA seminar hall. The students of MBA, BCom& BBA participated in this event. The students

among themselves clustered as ruling and opposition parties. The portfolios like speaker, prime minister,

opposition leader and ministers of cabinet and independent charges were performed by the students. A pre-

preparatory session was organised by the students in order to collect and document required details for

parliamentary discussion. The outcome of the programme has given valuable insights to the students about

economic, social and legal affairs of the country.

Pongal Festival Celebrations 12-01-2018

The students of Faculty of Management Studies, Commerce & HR of SCSVMV celebrated Pongal festival in the

department. The cultural programmes were organised during the time of the celebration. The students and faculty

members actively participated in the celebration. The communal pongal was prepared by the students and

distributed to all participants.

Sports Activities

Spardhaa March 2018

The students of Faculty of Management studies,

Commerce and HR, SCSVMV participated in

SPARDHAA - 2018, a sports event organized at

University level in the month of March 2018. The boys'

and girls' students actively participated in various indoor

and field events like Cricket, Volley ball, Kabaddi,

Football, track and Athletics. The girl students won the

gold medal in cricket and boy students won silver medal

in volley ball. Ms.Sangeetha final year BBA student

won first place in 800ms running and Mr.Vishnu II year

BBA student won silver medal in 800ms running. The

students brought laurels to the department by their

continuous effort and hard work.

Social Activities

Visit to Orphanage 06-02-2018

As a part of social extension activity the BCom and BBA students of SCSVMV visited an

orphanage home on 06-02-2018. In connection to that event the students offered lunch and dress

materials to physically challenged and orphanage children. The students also organised cultural

programmes.

Blood Donation Camp 15-03-2018

The students of faculty of Management Studies, Commerce & HR participated in the blood

donation camp organised by SCSVMV in association with Sri Jayendra Medical Centre. There

were around 150 students donated blood during the time of the camp.

Field Activities

Market Survey

The third year students of BBA and BCom (2015-18 batch) conducted a market survey in

various topics related to the subject at Kanchipuram. The survey focused marketing, retailing

and tourism avenues. The survey was undertaken as a part of students academic programme.

The students learnt real time practical exposures through this survey.

Visit to ThiruvalluvarGurukulam - 29-10-2017

Students of under graduation BCom& BBA,

SCSVMV visited ThiruvalluvarGurukulam,

Kanchipuram, an orphanage for children and

interacted with them. Our students

conducted cultural programmes and

competitions for the children in orphanage

and distributed prizes to motivate them. This

day was a more memorable one as our

students were responsible in making young

children happy. It was also a good

experience for our students.

Field Work by Students

The second year MBA students (2016-18 batch) under the specialisation of marketing

undertook a field survey in the domain of retailing during the month of August 2017. This

survey was conducted for their academic purpose in which students visited selected retail shops

in the category of supermarket and collected data through field observation as well as interaction

with customers. The survey helped the students to learn about various aspects related to retail

business like location aspect, store management, merchandise planning, retail pricing, customer

retention and retail operations. The field survey was presented by the students during their class

hours and which evaluated for their academic purpose.

Project work by students of final year BBA May 2017

The Students of Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA – 2014-17) undertook their final year

project during the end of sixth semester in the month of May 2017. The project duration was for 30

days from May to June 2017. The purpose of project work is to give practical exposure to students

about business practices which they came across during their three years BBA programme. The

category of project works underwent by the students were survey based case study on the retailing

practices, formats and management of unorganized retailers in Kanchipuram Town. The types of

businesses like street vendors, neighbourhood shops and convenience shops were surveyed by the

students. The entities like flower, vegetable, fruits, commodities and daily consumption items

sellers were considered for the study. The students had personal interaction and interview along with

sellers and based on the information collected, a final report was submitted by the students. After the

submission of final report, the students appeared for final project viva-voce and narrated their field

experience during their time of project.

Field and Group market survey by UG & PG

The faculty of Management studies, Commerce and Human Resources deployed the students of

BBA (III Year), BCom (III Year) and MBA (II Year) for field and Group market survey on the eve

of trade fair conducted by Department of Rural Welfare & Office of Self Help Groups (SHGs – a

part of District Collectorate of Kanchipuram District) during the month of July 2017. The purpose of

field and market survey is to provide basic and practical learning to the students about business

practices and fundamental aspects of data collection and report preparation. The students were

involved in the process of collecting information related to the various aspects through structured

questionnaire. The field work was administered among both the members of SHGs and general

public. The avenues in which survey conducted were

1. SHGs Economical Empowerment before and after joining in the Group

2. SHGs opinion on GST and its impact on their business

3. The background of training acquired by SHGs and its influence on their business

4. Problems encountered by SHGs in procurement and supply sources

5. Customer Satisfaction survey about SHG products and business (From the view of General

Public)

6. Marketing and selling problems of SHGs

Sports Activities

SPARDHA March 2017

The students of faculty of Management studies, Commerce and Human Resources participated in

SPARDAA - 2017, a sports event organized at University level in the month of March 2017. The

students actively participated in various events like Cricket, Kabaddi, Football, shot-put, track and

field events like Athletics enthusiastically. Girl Students also participated in Kho-Kho, Throw ball,

Chess, Carom and also in track and field events. The students won the overall championship and

brought laurels to the department by their continuous effort and hard work.
