Standardised Testing vs Authentic Assessment

• Reduces children’s rich and complex lives to a collection of scores, percentiles and grades

• Creates stresses that negatively affect a child’s performance

• Pressures teachers to narrow their curriculum to only what is tested on the exam

• Gives the teacher a felt sense of the child’s unique experience as a learner

• Provides interesting, active, lively and exciting experiences

• Allows teachers to develop

meaningful curricula and assess within the context of that program
