Introduction

We are a multi-disciplined engineering company based in South Wales who specialise in the fabrication and installation of pipework and structural steel for a range of industrial clients, including those in the steelwork, fuel, and chemical sectors. In addition, we provide other engineering services, such as under pressure drilling, pipeline inspection, and valve overhaul.

With over 30 years experience, we can provide a full service, from design to installation, whether it is at our fully equipped workshops, or on-site. We have a very strong safety culture and in January 2014, we achieved 14 years service with out a single recordable injury. This is a testament to the professionalism of the management staff and workforce alike.

Who Are We

JES Port Talbot Ltd was founded in 1982 by Mr Viv Johnson. Mr Johnson came from an Engineering background, mainly specialising in Marine Engineering. Started out with a small workshop and a labour force of eight men at a facility in Port Talbot, the company expand- ed over the next five years until the business had outgrown this site and the company moved to a 10,000 sq. ft workshop on Phoenix Wharf in 1987. The company continued to expand and evolve while enhancing its reputation with-in the fields of engineering it provided products to. The majority of our work has been undertaken in the steel industry, whilst other works have been undertaken on petrol, chemical and cryogenic sites. Our current labour force has grew in 2015 to approximately 80 workers.

Clients

Initially, we started out in mechanical and p ipework fabr icat ion and installation. However, over the years we evolved into a multi- disciplined organisation with the expertise to undertake any major above and below ground pipeline installations, structural steelwork design or installation, intelligent demolition works, under-pressure drilling, NDT inspection and design or installation of gas holder tanks, and pressure vessels with associated process and control systems.

We have a very strong safety culture and in January 2014, we achieved 14 years service with out a single recordable injury. This is a testament to the profess ional ism of the management staff and workforce alike.

The company's reputation for safety and performance is paramount to Viv Johnson, family members, and a dedicated management, staff and workforce, many being part of the company for over 20 years.

Structural Steelwork

With over 30 years of experience in the industry, JES Port Talbot Ltd are at the forefront in providing s t e e l w o r k a n d erection services to a w ide range o f clients in multiple i ndus t r y se c to r s including industrial, c o m m e r c i a l a n d manufacturing as well as individual projects throughout South Wales and the UK.

Structural Steel Design & Fabrication

The company provides a comprehensive service including design using the latest technologies in 3D CAD modelling software.

Steel Structure Erection

We are able to supply a wide range and flexible erection solution for any steel structure and can phase designs to suit client/contractor requirements. With safety as our highest priority, method statements, risk assessments and lifting plans are all carried out prior to site arrival. Our personnel are trained to the highest standards using FASET (Fall Arrest Safety Equipment Trained) and we are also certified as a SAFE contractor.

Demolition Services

JES Port Talbot are able to carry out full or partial demolition of all steel structures.

On-Site & Machine Shop Services

We work with carefully selected local partners to provide on-site machine shop ser- vices. Our partners are able to design and manufacture components and assemblies for a wide range of industries.

Components can be manufactured in all grades of steel, brass, aluminium, or stainless steel, and CAD/CAM programming can be carried out off-line prior to turning, milling, grinding and welding. Alternatively if you have existing drawings or design models, we can input these directly to our CNC machinery. Our software can accept data from all major CAD systems, which helps avoid potential problems or concerns with data translation from 3rd party interfaces.

We can offer a flexible machining service and produce everything from a single component to volume production. Our engineering experience and expertise also means we can advise you at the design stage about minor changes that may result in useful efficiencies and savings.

Pipework Fabrication

At JES Port Talbot Ltd, we have the facilities and experience to build almost any metal structure or pipework you require. Whether it's underground or overground pipework, working with stainless steel, mild steel, aluminium, copper, plastic, and other exotic materials using TIG, MIG and ARC welding techniques, or a small fabrication project for a local company, both will receive the same outstanding level of service. Most of our work is custom -built to exac t ing s tandards and specification. We do not generally mass produce any work. We will look at any project and give you a quotation of course but we do specialise in high- end fabrication. We work in a wide range of industries including steelworks, fuel, chemical, pharmaceutical, food, water, paper and brewery.

Coded Welding Services

We o f f e r a c o m p l e t e a n d exhaustive coded welding service. Whether it is in our fully equipped workshops, at your premises or on site, our usual high standards of quality, workmanship and service are guaranteed. We specialise in:

• Class 1 Coded Welding • BS EN 1090 Execution Class 3 • TIG • MIG • MMA • Plastic Fusion Welding Our certifications enable us to work to the highest quality standards even on high pressure systems. We have the skills and equipment that enables us to respond expediently to your requirements and deliver on time.

In addition to statutory government regulations, there are also many industry guidelines and codes of practice relating to a wide range of machinery and equipment. These may include recommendations for inspection or supplementary testing in addition to statutory requirements. You may need a specialist inspection where you have concerns or foresee a potential hazard with specific machinery or equipment, where you would benefit from a detailed professional assessment.

Non-Destructive Testing (NDT)

We utilise a wide group of analysis techniques used in science and industry to evaluate the p r o p e r t i e s o f a material, component or system without causing damage. NDT methods may rely upon use of e l e c t r o m a g n e t i c radiation, sound, and inherent properties of m a t e r i a l s f o r inspection.

JES Port Talbot Ltd pro- vide the full range of NDT disciplines and are able to tackle any scale or duration of project from site surveys to quality assurance of welding on construction projects, offering a satisfactory way of testing your parts or products without doing any damage to those items. Furthermore, our NDT services can be provided in-house or on-site.

Inspection Validation

We employ several e x p e r i e n c e d N D T inspectors who are qualified to PCN Level 2 in UT (Ultrasonic T e s t i n g ) , M P I (Magnet i c Par t i c le Inspection), DPI (Dye Penetrate Inspection) a n d V i s u a l Inspections. JES are ab le to undertake inspections of new welds and are also able to provide a full inspection of existing pipe- work systems.

Ultrasonic Thickness Inspection (U/T)

Used to monitor metal t h i ckness o r we ld quality in an industrial setting, our team of e n g i n e e r s a n d t e c h n i c i a n s u s e portable ultrasonic t h i c k n e s s measurement (UTM) probes to reach steel structures al- lowing us to measure i ts thickness by simply touch- ing the steel with the ultrasonic p r obe . Con t a c t i s usually assured by first r e m o v i n g v i s i b l e corrosion scale and t h e n a p p l y i n g petro leum je l ly or a n o t h e r c o u p l a n t before pressing the probe against metal. These testing methods are used to inspect metal to determine qual i ty and safety without destroying or c o m p r o m i s i n g i t s integrity.

Under Pressure Drilling

JES Port Talbot Ltd are specialists when it comes to under pressure drilling; or 'hot tapping; as it is commonly known. We can design, manufacture and install tapping sleeves of sizes from half inch to eight inch, and work with carefully selected partners to produce other sizes tailored to your individual requirements. Our pioneering drilling machines are kept at the forefront of innovation with fully qualif ied engineers providing safety conscious site installations with the highest level of professionalism.

In-Line Camera Inspection

JES Port Talbot Ltd provides pipeline inspection services using various in-l ine motorised tools. Pipel ines inspected are cast-iron, ductile iron and steel, water and waste water, in the municipal market and cooling water in power stations and other plants.

Our experience in pipeline inspection allow us to work closely with the many water, waste, oil, gas, and plant companies around South Wales to help them inspect the condition of their pipelines and save them money. Customers who take a proactive approach to assessing the condition of their buried assets using our service report savings in the hundreds of thousands of pounds. They also en- joy the benefit of being able to place a value on their buried assets by quant i tat ive ly know- ing their condition, and being able to make informed decisions on spot repairs, rehabilitation or replacement.

Projects

Client: Tata Steel Project: Gas Cleaning Tower. Fabrication and installation of 40m of 125, 110 & 90mm plastic pipework and valves.Man Hours: 250

Client: Monckton Coke & Chemical Plant Project: Fabrication of New Coke Oven Gas Bell (replacement of existing). Total weight 36 tons, 14m diameter x 10m tall. Project was assembled on temporary works and lifted into position using a 250T crane. All welds subject to 100% MPI inspection. Man Hours: 5,000

Client: Rhodia Chemicals Project: Water Storage Tank. Design, fabrication and installation of a 850 cubic meter water storage tank.Man hours: 4,000

Client: Lafarge Tarmac Project: No. 5 Blast Furnace New Granulation Plant. Fabrication and installation of two sections of granulation plant. First section is 30 ton and upper tiers are 23T, both of which will be lifted into position using a 250 ton crane. Man Hours: 6,000

Client: Tata Steel Project: No 5 30” Coke Oven Gas Main to No 5 Blast Furnace Stoves. Approximately 300m of 30” pipework which assists in the mixing of gases to feed all stoves on No 5 Furnace. This project saves Tata Steel approximately £3m per year and was delivered on time and executed at the highest quality workmanship. Man Hours: 9,000
