Stockholm is a city built across fourteen islands, and water covers approximately one third of the city area. It is situated where the Malaven flows into the Baltic Sea, making the city a major port. It was founded in the mid 13th century, and most of its buildings are historic in nature. However, like most cities, it is sprawling outward. While history plays an important role in Stockholm, it is also looking forward, having buildings and products on the cutting edge of design.
