A. Preface

STMIK AKAKOM is located within the Yogyakarta province, known as the center

of classical Javanese fine art and culture such as batik, ballet, drama, music,

poetry and puppet shows. It is also famous as a center for Indonesian higher

education.

The Yogyakarta Sultanate, formally the Sultanate of Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat,

was formed in 1755 when the existing Sultanate of Mataram was divided by the

Dutch East India Company (VOC) into two under the Treaty of Giyanti. This

treaty stated that the Sultanate of Mataram was to be divided into the Sultanate

of Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat with Yogyakarta as the capital and Mangkubumi

who became Sultan Hamengkubuwono I as its Sultan and the Sultanate of

Surakarta Hadiningrat with Surakarta as the capital and Pakubuwono III who

was the ruler of the Sultanate of Mataram as its Sultan.

It should be noted that the cultural heritage from the past includes the

magnificent 8century temples, the ruins of palaces and monasteries, the

various kind of traditions, cultural events, traditional folk and performing arts,

architecture and other traditional activities. It is important to note that this is all

part of the living culture of Yogyakarta, color of daily activities of life and the

local inhabitant’s behavior, particularly the Javanese community with its

traditional way of life and customs. Therefore, because of its culture richness

and heritage, Yogyakarta has long been known as the cradle of Javanese

culture.

The other legendary name for Yogyakarta City, among the elders as well as the

younger generation is the City of Art and Culture, also The City of Education.

Traditional and modern exhibition are held almost every day and night about the

etc, There are various wellknown education Institutions in Indonesia, such as

Gadjah Mada University, UIN Sunan Kalijaga, etc. Those are located in the

heart of the city.

STMIK AKAKOM was founded the first institute established in Yogyakarta

and central Java area, that offers courses in Informatics and Computer

Technology. It was founded by Widya Bakti Education Foundation in June,

B. Vision and Mission

The Vision is to excel in IT based on highest social values and norm for

increasing standard of life.

The Mission is to realize tri darma perguruan tinggi (three noble duties of Higher

education,i.e : Education , research and Community services) in IT which is to be

dedicated to foster knowledge, technology and culture.

The Purpose are :

a) To implement higher education system adaptive to development of IT by

combining strength and quality.

b) To enhance research for discovery to provide a new benefit for mankind

c) To promote IT in support of technology in modernization of Indonesia

d) To develop human resources with highest competence on IT and strong

motivation for life.

B. Competency of each program

Diploma in Computer Science

To develop student for having basic skill on installing, maintainance ,

trouble hooting and repairing computer. This program has offer two

specialisations are computer networking and system design based on

microcontroler/micro processor base system design.

Diploma in Computer Accountancy

To develop basic skill on computer application in Accountancy, and

mastery of Accountancy softwares.

Diploma in Information Management

To develop basic skill on database, ebusiness, computer graphics, data

storing and programming

Graduate in Information Technology

To develop knowledge on sistem solution, design softwares, networking,

Expert system. Data warehousing

Graduate in Information System

To develop knowledge on information system engineering, decision

support system, data dokumenting and system designanalysis. This program

offers two specialisations :ebussiness and information system.
