Objectives:

Introduce and practice still life arrangement techniques

o Control/activate the background

o Balance highlights and shadows

o Provide areas of visual movement

o Repeat accent colors

o Consider viewing from different angles

Review basic composition techniques

o Rule of thirds, avoid centering

o Cropping, fill the whole space

o Activate the edges

Review the history of still life art

Design a unique and original composition based on a still life arrangement

o Mentally/visually convert 3D arrangement to 2D image

o Thumbnails: sketch at least 5 different cropped areas

o 1 rough color drawing (oil pastels): plan for painting

o 1 presentation quality color painting: final still life composition
