AT THE AGE OF 21 STEVIE WONDER LEFT MOTOWN AND PURSUED HIS OWNSTYLE AND TYPE OF MUSIC, UTILIZING SYNTHESIZERS AND OTHER SOUNDS TOEVOLVE HIS OWN TYPE OF MUSIC. IGNORING HIS DISABILITY AND PURSING HIS MUSIC HAS MADE HIM AMONUMENTAL FIGURE IN MODERN MUSIC. 5. ABOUT STEVIE WONDER CONT. STEVIE WONDERS EARLY CHILDHOOD STEVIE WONDER WAS BORN STEVLANDHARDAWAY JUDKINS IN SAGINAW, MICHIGAN. HE WAS BORN WITH THE CONDITIONRETINOPATHY AS A RESULT OF BEINGCONCIEVED 6 WEEKS PREMATURE. HE WAS BORN WITH THE NAME STEVLANDHARDAWAY JUDKINS WHICH WAS LATERCHANGED TO STEVLAND HARDWAY MORRISWHEN LULA MAE HARDAWAY (STEVIESMOTHER) LEFT STEVIES FATHER. 7. STEVLAND HARDAWAY MORRIS STEVLAND HARDAWAY MORRIS GREW UP PLAYING A PLETHORA OF INSTRUMENTS, LIKE THE PIANO, HARMONICA, DRUMS, AND BASS. DUE TO STEVLANDS OVER PROTECTIVE MOTHER, STEVIE WONDER WAS NEVER ALLOWED TO PLAY OUTDOORS. STEVIE WONDER WAS ALSO VERY INVOLVED WITH THE CHURCH BECAUSE OF HIS MUSICAL TALENTS. AS A CHILD STEVIE WONDER NEVER LOOKED AT HIS DISABILITY AS A HANDICAP, BUT TOOK IT AS A CHALLENGE. AT SCHOOL STEVIE WONDER WAS TOLD THAT HE WOULD NEVER MAKE IT. AFTER THAT, STEVIE WONDER DECIDED THAT HE WAS DETERMINED TO PROVE THOSE PEOPLE WRONG. 8. AND HE DID PROVETHEM WRONG 9. BEING DISCOVERED STEVIE WONDER WAS DISCOVERED BY GERALD WHITE. GERALD WHITE PERSUADED HIS BROTHER, SOUL SINGER, RONNIE WHITE TO SEE LITTLE STEVIE WONDER. AFTER SEEING STEVIE WONDER, RONNIE WHITE TOOK LITTLE STEVIE WONDER AND HIS MOTHER TO MOTOWN RECORDS. WHEN STEVIE WONDER GOT TO MOTOWN RECORDS HE WAS INTRODUCED TO BERRY GORDY. BERRY GORDY WASNT IMPRESSED WITH LITTLE STEVIE WONDERS SINGING, DRUMMING OR BONGO SKILLS. WHAT IMPRESSED BERRY GORDY WAS STEVIE WONDERS ABILITY TO PLAY THE HARMONICA. AT THE AGE OF 11, STEVLAND HARDAWAY MORRIS WAS SIGNED ONTO MOTOWN RECORDS UNDER THE STAGE NAME OF LITTLE STEVIE WONDER. 10. TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF MANY PERFOMRERS AT THIS TIME WERE STAIGHT FROM THE STREET AND BECAUSE OF THIS, THEY WERE TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF. THIS IS THE SAME FOR LITTLE STEVIE WONDER. MOTOWN CONTROLLED: ARTIST STAGE MOVEMENTS, CONCERT BOOKINGS AND COPYRIGHTS TO THEIR SONGS. UNLIKE THAT OF WHITE PERFORMERS, AFRICAN AMERICAN PERFORMERS WERE UNABLE TO AFFORD LAWYERS, AND THUS THE ABILITY TO NEGOTIATE THEIR CONTRACTS. 11. TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF CONT.
