HYDRANT SYSTEM

A Fire Hydrant, also called Fireplug, is a connection point bywhich firefighters can tap into a water supply. It is a componentof active fire protection.The user attaches a hose to the fire hydrant,then opens a valve on the hydrant to provide a powerful flow ofwater, on the order of 350 kPa (50 lbf/in²) This user can attach thishose to a fire engine, which can use a powerful pump to boostthe water pressure and possibly split it into multiple streams. Onemay connect the hose with a threaded connection, instantaneous"quick connector" or a Storz connector. A user should take care not toopen or close a fire hydrant too quickly, as this can cause a waterhammer, which can damage nearby pipes and equipment. The waterinside a charged hose line causes it to be very heavy and high waterpressure causes it to be stiff and unable to make a tight turn whilepressurized. When a fire hydrant is unobstructed, this is not aproblem, as there is enough room to adequately position the hose.

SPRINKLER SYSTEM

A fire sprinkler system is an active fire protection method, consisting

of a water supply system, providing adequate pressure and flowrate

to a water distribution piping system, onto which fire Sprinklers are

connected. Although Sprinkler System used in Factories , Ware

Houses ,Storage areas ,High Rise Residential buildings ,commercial

buildings, homes and small buildings , As per hazardous area defined

by standards, Fire sprinkler systems are extensively used worldwide,

with over 40 million sprinkler heads fitted each year. In buildings

completely protected by fire sprinkler systems, over 96% of fires were

controlled by fire sprinklers alone.

FIRE PUMP

A Fire Pump is a part of a fire Hydrant & sprinkler system's watersupply and powered by electric, diesel or steam. The pump intake iseither connected to the public underground water supply piping, or astatic water source (e.g., tank, reservoir,). The pump provides waterflow at a higher pressure to the sprinkler system Risers and HydrantHose standpipes. A fire pump is tested and listed for its usespecifically for fire service by a third-party testing and listing agency,such as UL or FM Global. Or Indian IS codes , Fire pumps functioneither by an Electric motor or a Diesel engine, or, occasionally a steamturbine. The fire pump starts when the pressure in the fire sprinklersystem drops below a threshold. The sprinkler system pressure dropssignificantly when one or more Fire Sprinklers are exposed to heatabove their design temperature, and opens, releasing water.Alternately, other Fire Hoses reels or other firefighting connectionsare opened, causing a pressure drop in the fire fighting main.Types of pumps used for fire service include: horizontal split case,vertical split case, vertical inline, vertical turbine, and end suction.

FIRE EXTINGUISHER

A Fire Extinguisher, or is an active fire protection device used toextinguish or control small fires, often in emergency situations. It isnot intended for use on an out-of-control fire, such as one which hasreached the ceiling, endangers the user (i.e., no escape route, smoke,explosion hazard, etc.), Typically, a fire extinguisher consists of ahand-held cylindrical pressure vessel containing an agent which canbe discharged to extinguish a fire.There are two main types of fire extinguishers: stored-pressure andcartridge-operated. In stored pressure units, the expellant is stored inthe same chamber as the firefighting agent itself. Depending on theagent used, different propellants are used. With dry chemicalextinguishers, nitrogen is typically used; water and foam extinguisherstypically use air. Stored pressure fire extinguishers are the mostcommon type. Cartridge-operated extinguishers contain the expellantgas in a separate cartridge that is punctured prior to discharge,exposing the propellant to the extinguishing agent. Cartridgeoperated extinguishers are available in dry chemical and dry powdertypes ,and in water, wetting agent, foam, dry chemical (classes ABCand B.C.), and dry powder (class D) types in the rest of the world.

FIRE ALRAM

A fire alarm system is number of devices working together to detect

and warn people through visual and audio appliances

when smoke, fire, carbon monoxide or other emergencies are

present. These alarms may be activated automatically from smoke

detectors, and heat detectors or may also be activated via manual fire

alarm activation devices such as manual call points or pull stations.

Alarms can be either motorized bells or wall mountable sounders or

horns. They can also be speaker strobes which sound an alarm,

followed by a voice evacuation message which warns people inside

the building not to use the elevators. Fire alarm sounders can be set

to certain frequencies and different tones including low, medium and

high, depending on the country and manufacturer of the device.
