Standing OutThrough these many weeks we shared with the ladies of Doha, Qatar Independent School, we learned how to appreciate other cultures and learn how to live in an energy efficient way. We were able to have Skype sessions that discussed current environmental issues and ways to fix them. We also collaborated on projects such as creating a powerpoint to raise awareness. We shared many ideas to raise awareness in our own schools. We made posters and they had an assembly to discuss the topics we discussed and learned about from each other.

Raising AwarenessIn our school we were able to raise awareness through posters, which we placed all around the hallways and stairwells. We also used the knowledge we gained to educate other generations like our parents and grandparents on how we need to take care our environment.

The posters that we put up all around the school were focused on saving water and energy. They are reminders of how important it is to take care of your school and the planet.

What We LearnedWe learned many things from our friends in Qatar. We not only learned about ways to fix the environment, but about each other and our ways of life. We learned more about them by having a showcase after each video call. Some of us would share our talents and stuff we enjoyed to get to know each other better. We taught each other that even though we are so far about with different cultures, we are very similar. We used this to our advantage to talk about subjects such as Carbon Footprints, The Kyoto Protocol, and Greenhouse Gases just to name a few.

Our ProjectsOver the course of this program we were able to figure out how much exactly we impacted the environment. One of the most memorable on would be finding out our carbon footprint and then being able to compare it to our friends in Qatar. We both came to the realization that we use up a lot of our energy traveling from place to place.
