The world premiere of Lar Lubovitch’s new evening‐length story ballet – based on Alexander Pushkin’s 

beloved poem The Bronze Horseman – will take place on May 25th in St. Petersburg, Russia.  We invite 

you to attend the premiere with us!  Lubovitch is creating the ballet with support from both the Lar 

Lubovitch Dance Company and the Mikhailovsky Ballet.  The finished work will be performed by the 

Mikhailovsky at their magnificent historic theater. 

Legendary St. Petersburg awaits!  Nearly two centuries after Pushkin’s poem, the city continues to amaze the world with its opulence and splendor—and now’s your chance to experience it!  This world premiere will be the perfect opportunity for you to explore the city, be the first to see important new and classic works of art, and take part in this cultural exchange.  Features included in the “Benefit Package”:

Detailed Schedule  Friday, May 20 Depart on your own independently arranged flight from your home town to St. Petersburg.   Saturday, May 21 Arrive in St. Petersburg. Time at leisure to adjust to travel and to begin exploring St. Petersburg. Suggestions provided.   Sunday, May 22 Buffet breakfast at the hotel (included in both hotel packages offered).  10:00 am – Sightseeing tour of the city led by Professor Nina Zonina. Start off your Russian adventure with the help of history and culture expert Professor Nina Zonina as you explore the city by private car to learn about its enchanting flavor, grand scale, and architectural ensembles. She will be joining us for three days throughout the trip so you will have the opportunity to gain an insider’s perspective of this magical city. Your first day tour will take you to St. Isaac’s Square, the famed Bronze Horseman statue, Peter and Paul’s Fortress, the Church on Spilt Blood and along Nevsky Prospekt.  2:00 pm—Lunch at Terrassa. Enjoy a delicious meal as you overlook the magnificent Kazan Cathedral.  4:00 pm—Continue tour with Professor Zonina.  6:00 pm—Return to hotel. Dinner on your own. Suggestions provided.

 Monday, May 23 Buffet breakfast at the hotel (included in both hotel packages offered).  2:00 pm– Attendance at a technical rehearsal of the Mikhailovsky Ballet, followed by a private backstage tour. See the other side of the curtain with this intimate viewing of Lar Lubovitch in rehearsals with the Mikhailovsky. Founded in 1833, this is one of the oldest theaters in Russia. Following years of changing names and management, it was reopened in 2007 under the helm of a businessman. Today, the ballet division is led by Mikhail Messerer (artistic director) and Nacho Duato (resident choreographer). Principal dancers include the talented Natalia Osipova and Ivan Vasiliev.  7:30 pm – Dinner with group at Stroganoff Restaurant.  Tuesday, May 24 Buffet breakfast at the hotel (included in both hotel packages offered).  9:30 am – Depart for trip to the Catherine Palace in Pushkin and Grand Palace in Peterhof, accompanied by Professor Nina Zonina.  10:00am – Catherine Palace. This magnificent palace is closed to the public on Tuesdays, but you will be able to experience it in private with our group of patrons and Professor Zonina. She will take you through the grounds and to the reconstructed Amber Room. The original, fabled room was once considered the Eighth Wonder of the World.  12:00 noon – Lunch with the group at Podvorie.  2:00pm – The Grand Palace The Grand Palace and Catherine Palace were both designed by Francesco Bartolomeo Rastrelli, an Italian architect who has had an incredible influence on St. Petersburg. In Peterhof, you will stroll through the gorgeous gardens and fountains, said to rival those in Versailles.  5:30 pm– Return to St. Petersburg. Evening to spend on your own.  Suggestions provided.

   Wednesday, May 25 Buffet breakfast at the hotel (included in both hotel packages offered).  Daytime – Explore the city yourself!  7:30 pm– VIP seats to the world premiere of Lubovitch’s full‐length ballet, inspired by The Bronze Horseman  In this full‐length narrative ballet, Lar Lubovitch invokes the story and themes from Alexander Pushkin’s The Bronze Horseman. This tale of love, loss, and the great city of St. Petersburg will come to life with the Mikhailovsky Ballet.  10:00 pm– Post‐performance champagne and dessert reception with the company. Join Lar Lubovitch, the dancers of the Mikhailovsky and your fellow patrons in celebrating the new work!   Thursday, May 26 Buffet breakfast at the hotel (included in both hotel packages offered).  10:00 am—State Hermitage Museum & Winter Palace. Along the Neva River runs the Palace Embankment, home to the world famous State Hermitage Museum and Winter Palace. The Museum has one of the world’s oldest and largest collections, with over 3 million items of artwork, culture, and history. The Winter Palace—the former home of Russian royalty—has been the site of numerous historic events. (To accommodate those wishing to spend more time at the Museum, the guided tour does not resume until 4:00 pm at the Yusupov Palace.)  2:00 pm– Lunch on your own.  Suggestions provided.  4:00 pm–Yusupov Palace. Also known as Moika Palace, this magnificent space belonged to the wealthiest family in Russia—the Yusupovs. Even richer than the Romanovs, this family owned thousands of acres of land, factories, palaces, estates, precious jewels, and priceless artwork. Most notably, Yusupov Palace is the site of the legendary assassination of Rasputin.  6:00 pm– Return to hotel. Dinner on your own. Suggestions provided.

State Hermitage Museum

  Friday, May 27   Buffet breakfast at the hotel (included in both hotel packages offered).  10:00 am–Vaganova Ballet Academy. Observe a class at the prestigious Vaganova Ballet Academy, which graduates many of the top dancers in Russia. Formerly the Imperial Ballet School and then the Leningrad State Choreographic Institute, the school was renamed to honor the revolutionary teachings of Agrippa Vaganova. Here is your chance to walk among the same halls as some of the most notable names in the ballet world— Balanchine, Baryshnikov, Nureyev, Pavlova, and Ulanova were all once students at this renowned school.  12:00 – Lunch on your own. Suggestions provided.  2:00 pm–Mariinsky Theater. This historic theater was the birthplace of many of the world’s most famous classical ballets. In the 19th century, it was the home of choreographer Marius Petipa (Giselle, Sleeping Beauty, La Bayadere) and the site of musical and operatic premieres by Tchaikovsky and Rimsky‐Korsakov.  7:00 pm– Dinner with the group and Lar Lubovitch at Russian Empire.  Saturday, May 28 Buffet breakfast at the hotel (included in both hotel packages offered).  Daytime—Sightseeing and shopping activities on your own.  Sunday, May 29 DEPARTURE & ARRIVAL HOME Buffet breakfast at the hotel (included in both hotel packages offered).  Morning – Check‐out from hotel and depart on independently arranged return flight from St. Petersburg to your home town.
