When we say from our hearts, “I love you”, we give another person a new life and new dreams. When we say, “I hate you”, we destroy another person’s life. Let our words be life-giver! The energy to hear! Jesus hears the cries of the poor, and listens with his heart. Let us follow him! When we listen with our hearts: we understand the viewpoints of others and able to respond fittingly to their needs; and we pay more attention to God’s voice in order to increase our faith. “Listening has a rich spiritual awakening!” That’s what prayer is - it’s listening to the voice that calls us “my beloved!” Listening builds stronger friendship with God! Today, try your best to be a person of value: “Be a good listener! Read with your hearts! And be a nourishing speaker! OUR PARISH MISSION STATEMENT

We, the people of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Faith Community, Baptized into Jesus Christ, formed by Word and Sacrament, and Empowered by the guidance of the Holy Spirit, Seek to be a visible sign of God’s love. We seek to build the Kingdom of God by: Using our unique gifts to minister to one another, Welcoming all and caring for those in need, Teaching our faith to others and Uniting in worship as a family with the Body of Christ.

Dear Holy People of God: In today’s gospel, Jesus dramatically heals a deaf man who had a speech impediment, it says:

He put his finger into the man’s ears… touched his tongue... looked up to heaven… and said to him, “EPHPHATHA!” that is, “BE OPENED!” And immediately the man’s ears were opened, his speech impediment was removed, and he spoke plainly.

The miracle took place in the district of the “Decapolis”. “Decapolis”, a Greek word, means “ten cities” (“Deca” is ten, “polis” is city). It’s a league of pagan cities. They are located to the east of the Sea of Galilee. Jesus visited the people of the Decapolis, not as an enemy but a messenger of love, conversion and life. Perhaps, the miracle is intentional. It’s intended for the man, who is mute and deaf, and not to other kinds of healing, because it’s intrinsically related to Jesus’ mission of evangelization. The man was healed: able to speak and listen. Speaking and listening are perfect instru-ments of evangelization in the “Decapolis” (pagan territories). The man, one of their own, converted, and is able to speak, is now an ideal witness of the good news to his own peo-ple. And since he is able to listen, he is now a template of an evangelized becoming an evangelizer. Evangelization is for everyone! No exceptions! Two spiritual energies evolved from this miracle:

The energy to speak! Jesus’ love empowered the man to produce the language of faith and love! Words have the power to create. God says: “Let there be light” and there was light. It’s this creative power of the word we need to reclaim.

Deliver a message from your heart that is life-giving and dream-building!” God bless you all! Fr. Romy Seleccion, MS
