From Fr. Mark’s Desk: Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time: “But I say to you, offer no resistance to one who is evil.” From the first me a child says ‘No’ to their parent, the struggle begins-a life me of being told what to do and how to do it and why to do it. The first ‘no’ is among many that most of us will u er in our lives. We resist a life not formed by ourselves. We resist an authority that is not our own. This resistance is normal and healthy at mes. But, it can make discipleship difficult, if our answer to God is always, no! A teacher (not St. Linus) recently told me, ‘we could accomplish so much more if our stu-dents would cooperate with us more’. I found that to be true in leadership. So much more can happen when we are willing to cooperate. Coopera on requires a faith and trust that can be difficult or impossible for some to surrender. For example, if every parishioner brought one canned good to church every Sunday for the pantry, without being asked, we would have 1,000 cans per week. Now, there is a coopera ve goal! If every parishioner gave $20.00 to our school once a year, that would be $20,000. If every parishioner invited one person a year, if every one of us forgave someone once a week….the list goes on…With more coopera on from all of us, we could do so much more with li le extra effort. Jesus would find this same resistance among his disciples. They o en thought he was ‘doing it’ wrong. He would constantly have to reassure them and prove himself to them once again. We too, at mes, find ourselves saying that God has it wrong; he should do it our way!! Welcome to Lent!! A season of Prayer, Fas ng, and Almsgiving. So, my only sugges on as we start our Lenten journey is: Cooperate! “Do I want to break away from my deep-rooted rebellion against God and surrender myself so absolutely to God’s love that a new person can emerge?” Henri Nouwen Have a great week! Fr. Mark Walter

Stewardship…

“But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you…”

MATTHEW 5:44

Love your enemies, easier said than done, no doubt. But, remember, the foundation of stewardship is prayer. When we are in close communication with God, it opens our heart and it turns our attention away from “me” and moves it towards God and oth-ers. It allows us to have a little more empathy for “our enemy”. When we pray for others, even “our enemies”, maybe it softens their hearts as well.

“Feed the Homeless” Collection… Once again a huge “thank you” to the St. Linus pa-rishioners for their tremendous support of the “Feed the Homeless” special collection. Thank you to our volunteers and local businesses (Jack & Pat’s, Papa Joe’s, Jenny’s Steakhouse, Clancy’s, Frankie’s Beef, and Pop’s Beef) who have helped us in preparing our meals, and continuing our ministry of feeding the poor and homeless. God bless all! St. Linus Peace & Justice Committee
