TRANSCRIPT
It was wonderful to see so many mothers and grandmothers (and a few dads too!) at the
Mother’s Day Mass and morning tea last week. Thank you for your attendance and to the
P&F for providing the macaroons.
The P&F meeting held in the afternoon was fairly well attended. Alternative sports shirts
were presented and options discussed. Consultation concerning these will continue. See the
attached P&F minutes for other items of discussion.
Mrs Thom has constructed a website known as a Weebly. The St Joseph’s Weebly contains
class pages that the teachers are developing to support the children’s learning. It also
contains support pages for Mathematics and Library. Much of the information contained in
last week’s EMU presentation is contained in the Mathematics support page. Children from
Kindergarten to Year 6 are concentrating on Maths games for homework that support their
conceptual development in Place Value.
The canteen will be online for lunch orders from June 1st. If you haven't yet registered with
Schools24, it would be a good idea to do so as soon as possible. More details inside.
Children are now required to be wearing the full winter school uniform. Please ensure your
child is wearing the correct uniform. Summer uniform returns in Term 4.
A Staff Development Day is planned for June 5th. If you require supervision for your child
you must contact the school office by the end of this week.
My door is always open if you have any questions or concerns.

Then he told them:
Go and preach the good news to everyone in the world. Anyone who believes me and is baptized will
be saved. But anyone who refuses to believe me will be condemned. Everyone who believes me will
be able to do wonderful things. By using my name they will force out demons, and they will speak
new languages. They will handle snakes and will drink poison and not be hurt. They will also heal sick
people by placing their hands on them.
After the Lord Jesus had said these things to the disciples, he was taken back up to heaven where he
sat down at the right side of God. Then the disciples left and preached everywhere. The Lord was with
them, and the miracles they worked proved that their message was true.

Family Mass Our next Whole School Parish Family Mass is just around the corner. This special celebration, which is being led by Year Three and Year Four classes will be held on Saturday 23rd May at 5:30pm. As this is our celebration of Pentecost, it would be lovely to see as many people join our Mass wearing red! Pull out your favourite red jumper or long sleeved shirt to join in the spirit. We look forward to seeing many families in attendance and sharing in this special celebration of our faith. Sacrament of Eucharist Children within our school community continue on their journey toward making their Sacrament of Eucharist. This week’s focus is around the connections that we can make in Eucharist to the Jewish Passover, The Last Supper and Life-Death-Resurrection. May we join them at this special time in their faith formation, by sharing in a family meal at home. Maybe you could give a few of these ideas a try; Treat the family meal table as special place, using beautiful plates or cutlery. Create a calming mood at the meal table by using candles as light. Arrange one or more symbols in the centre of the table, for example a cross, cup, and vase
of flowers or bread. Stef Thom Religious Education Coordinator
Curriculum News Well it’s NAPLAN time – again (bit like Groundhog Day really!!!). Year 3 and 5 students are undertaking NAPLAN this week and yesterday they completed the writing and language conventions component. It is a criterion-referenced test that shows what children can do and enables standards of performance to be compared from year to year.
NAPLAN is only one form of assessment but analysing the data that it provides is a valuable professional development opportunity for classroom teachers. It provides the school with an overview of current achievements of this particular group of children and gives a comprehensive understanding of their performance. Along with other forms of assessment it can be used to help with whole school planning. It also shows the growth that each student achieves from Year 3 to Year 5 and in the last couple of years we have also been given access to our past students Year 7 results.
Careful analysis of NAPLAN results can help schools to identify areas of strengths and weaknesses for students. This can help determine future programming decisions for the whole school.

Further action required.
