What makes the difference The industry frequently uses plastic or stainless steel (304) bearing housings with chrome steel or stainless steel inserts. These combinations are then usually sealed with plastic caps, with or without seals, in order to keep out contaminants. In practice, however, it has often been found that these systems are not adequate. External factors such as moisture and alignment

errors impact negatively on the beawing system, requiwing the premature replacement of parts. We developed the EXTREME BEARING system on the basis of knowledge and experience gained in everyday practical situations.

Bearing inserts EXTREME BEARING housings are designed differently and take a different approach. EXTREME BEARING does not use a spherical outer ring, but instead has an (optional) double-row ball bearing or roller bearing.

Double-row ball bearings have the advantage that they are very light itself adjustable. The bearings are different from the spherical roller bearing sealed by 2-rs bearing seals, these seals will give extra protection when the housings seals anyway would go broken. Spherical roller bearingsfeature a much larger load capacity than ball bearings and can accommodate axial force. Adapter sleeve Clever fitting using a adapter sleeve does away with the need for an eccentric clamping ring or allen key, both of which have been known to cause additional problems. The choice of materials used contributes to a longer service life and, ultimately, better results and lower cost .

Centrifugal seals Standard EXTREME BEARING housings are made of 316 stainless steel. Centrifugal seals developed by EXTREME BEARING are also used.

The rubber of the rotor ring clamps around the shaft and is turning with the shaft vertically against the statorring. Because the lips are vertically against the statorring positioned the dirt will be repelled by the centrifugal force from the sealing lips. The rotor ring can be move excentric in relation to the stator ring, in this way is Centrufugal seal is able to asorb misalingment of the shaft whitout fatigue of the rubber lips.

The grease passes the retaining edge through the lubrication channels under the stator ring and between the two sealing lips and stator ring. The grease ensures that the ingress of dirt is discharged. The clamping off the rubber arround the shaft allows it to be used the centrifugal seal in assembling with light surface damage of the shaft.

Food grade color light blue was chosen, but the olour has no effect on the operation of the seal. It just gives the product the distinctive look you expect from an EXTREME BEARING.

Stainless steel 316 split design bearing plummer block housings A new generation of split housings designed for corrosion resistance and minimal maintenance

Easy replaceable Stainless steel Extreme Bearing EBL design housings will supersede common plummer (pillow) block housings. In general, information for split housings with regards to housing variants, sealing solutions, system design, lubrication, mounting, condition monitoring and accessories is the same as for common cast irion housings. High quality seals An important advantage of ExtremeBearing plummer block housings is that they can be fitted with different seal types.

• Double-lip seals are made of polyurethane, a wear-resistant material which has good elastic properties. The seals are split so that they are easy to fit. They are intended for grease lubrication and can be used at peripheral speeds of up to 8 m/s.

• Same as double-lip seals, four-lip seals are

very effective and easy to mount. However, they generate less friction and can accommodate higher shaft speeds.

• Under difficult operating conditions and/or at high

speeds the use of labyrinth seals is recommended. The labyrinth rings are made of stainless steel and have two radial arranged labyrinth steps which form a narrow sealing gap with the housing grooves

Grease and seals Double-row ball bearings are different from the spherical roller bearing sealed by 2-rs bearing seals and are greased for lifetime. The 2-rs seals seals will provide an extra protection when the housings seals anyway would go broken. Do be aware that the lubricating grease is a part of the seal, for a long service life, the gaps between the lips and the stator of the seal must be greased to keep out dust and water. recommended is to use an automatic lubricator or lubricate with some regularity. Only a small quantity is necessary when slowly flushed into the bearing cavity to push water, dust and pollution away from the seal parts

Load directions for Extreme Bearings Extreme Bearing units are intended for loads acting vertically toward the base plate support Therefore, if the SS bearing housing is supported over its entire base, loads are limited only by the load limits of the bearinginsert. If loads acting in other directions occur or if the housing is not supported over its entire base area, check that the magnitude of the load is permissible for the bolt assembly joining the machine frame.

Minimal load A certain minimal load must act on all single-point contact or line contact bearings to ensure their satisfactory operation. This also applies for self aligning ball bearings, especially when they must operate at high speeds, with high acceleration, or when the direction of the acting load suddenly changes. Under such conditions, the inertial forces of balls, cages, and friction in the lubricant can have a negative effect on the rolling conditions and can cause harmful slippage between the balls and the raceways. The requisite minimal load for self aligning ball bearings can be estimated using the relationship

A higher minimum load may be required when starting under low temperatures or when using a high visco- sity lubricant. The weight of components associated with the bearing together with external forces is often greater than the requisite minimal load. If not, then an auxiliary axial load may act on the bearing, which is elicited e.g. by increased tension of a belt, etc.

• The shaft should be within tolerance as the adapter sleeve could pull the inner race oval. • Make sure that the shaft is clean and free of any burrs from set screws. If not, remove the burrs with a fine

file. We prefer a fine file over emery cloth so that you only take away the high spots without affecting the main shaft tolerance.

• Check if the shaft bearing seat is within tolerance, preferably at three cross sections in the position of the bearing location (3 x 20 mm spacing).

• The shaft tolerance h9, or Ø35 /Ø40= +0,0000 -0,062 mm. • Measure the cylindricity with micro- meter in 3 locations in the circumference. This tolerance is IT5, meaning

max difference 0,011 mm. • The shaft and should be clean dry and free from grease. • Clean support surface and make sure it’s free from surface damage.

• Each shaft will have a fixed bearing location (mounted first) and a floating location (mounted second).

If this type were ever used on a drive shaft, it would be required that the fixed side be the motor drive side. To minimize the risk of future confusion, we strongly recommend the fixed side be the drive side, as depicted below.

• During assembly, the bearing will be displaced axially on the adapter sleeve along the shaft. See Table 4,5.

• There is a total clearance available for thermal expansion that’s equal to the thickness from location ring. Figure 14

The expansion and contraction of material must be considered to be keep the clearance that is required to operate the bearing well.

Extreme Bearing mounting step by step 1. We recommend to have the lock ring on the drive side for proper drive position if applicable. To prevent

mistakes/future confusion keep all to one side. 2. Put some grease on the seal lip. 3. Position both bearings on to the shaft and bold the bearing housing to the machine frame. 4. Check if the roller is level in the frame is correct . 5. Tighten the attachment bolts to the frame. 6. We start the clamping procedure on the drive (fixed) side, never two sides at one time! 7. Method 1: Position the outer bearing race level with the outside from the bearing house to keep inner bearing clearance after tightening the bearing adaptor sleeve. Figure 6,7 (In case you will become a high accurate axial positioning of the shaft, positon only the bearing of the fixed side as method 2)

(Take in consideration the axial displacement table 4 and 5) A stainless steel shaft of 1 meter will be at 1C degree temperature rise 0.023 mm longer and by cooling shorten. A carbon steel shaft of 1 meter will be at 1C degree temperature rise 0.016 mm longer and by cooling shorten.

If you have a bearing for a drive situation, use an open cover with shaft seal. Put some grease on seal lip, and carefully push the cover over the shaft. Finally tighten the cover with the two attachment bolts. If you have chosen to point 7 for Method 1, the shaft with bearing shall than about one millimetre shift Backwards by mounting the fixed side. In case your construction demands axial high accurate positioning check the position. If to much displacement, undo steps 7-14, correct the position, and repeat.

Slowly pump the grease into the bearing unit meanwhile rotate with hand the stop pumping as soon as without air gradually passes the seals. If you pump too fast the trapped air will push the excess grease out off the bearing before they are full.

Extreme Bearing 316 Stainless Steel Bearing Systems

The foodstuff industry frequently uses plastic or stainless steel (304) bearing housings with chrome steel or stainless steel inserts. These combinations are then usually sealed with plastic caps, with or without seals, in order to keep out contaminants. In practice, however, it has often been found that these systems are not adequate. External factors such as moisture and alignment errors impact negatively on the bearing system, requiring the premature replacement of parts. We developed the EXTREME BEARING system on the basis of knowledge and experience gained in everyday practical situations. Our aim was to develop a bearing system capable of solving most, if not all, the common problems that arise. Tests carried out in a number of industries have since shown that the EXTREME BEARING system is a real problem solver! Traditional bearing systems all contain ball-bearing inserts fitted with a spherical outer ring. The underlying idea is that the bearing can move by about 3 degrees to compensate for any misalignment. Practice has proven otherwise, as we now know. Tensioning the shaft on the machine holds the outer ring of the insert firmly in the housing, making it difficult or even impossible to adjust the insert. If the bearings are subject to excessive axial loading, the forces generated penetrate through the bearing, causing damage to the balls, inner ring, ball race and even the housing. Ultimately, the insert has to be replaced, while the bearing housing is also damaged permanently in many cases. EXTREME BEARING housings are designed differently and take a different approach. EXTREME BEARING does not use a spherical outer ring, but instead has an (optional) double-row ball bearing or roller bearing. Clever fitting using a bush does away with the need for an eccentric clamping ring or Allen key, both of which have been known to cause additional problems. The choice of materials used contributes to a longer service life and, ultimately, better results and lower costs.
