Special Pujas in the Sahasra Chandi YagnaVinayka, Vatuka, Kanyaka, Suvasini and Dhampathy Puja are essential part of Chandi Yagna. When we perform Sahasra Chandi, it is customery to have 100 dev-otees for each of the categories. To facilitate all the devotees in the congregation to participate in the pujas during Sahasra Chandi Yagna, SSVT is organizing Puja to Matha and Pitha and Sahasranama Archana by sahasra women and girls aging 10 or more. Vinayaka and Vaduka - unmarreied boys; Kanyaka - girls under the age of 10 (pre-puberty); Suvasini- Married women in child bearing age; Dhampathy - Elderly married couple (one over 60). Participation in all these pujas is FREE.Devotees who want to perform the puja can sponsor for a nominal cost. Both the devotees who perform the puja and to whom the puja is being performed are blessed by the Devi. This will help the temple to defray the cost of the vastrams provided for the pujas. Since there are limited seats available, devotees wanting to participate must register in SSVT website. All the pujas are based on first come first serve basis. We also will have some in waiting list to take up the space of last-minute cancellation and no shows. Devotees who sign up to be one of the Gods and Goddesses needs to take a bath in the morning and wear the new vastrams (Dothies and towel, Sarees for suvasinies and Sarees and Dothies for dahampathies) given by the temple. This will provide uniformity and equality among the participants. Registered participants can pick up their vastrams few days in advance of the event. The dates will be announced later. All are requested to report at the prescribed time.

Prathistapana of Utsava Murthis: Durga, Lakshmi, Sarasvati, and Chandika ParameshwariSri Siva Vishnu Temple is celebrating its 35th Anniversary this year (2019) with two Mahotsavams. Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Mahotsavam was celebrated in a grand manner from May 15-19, 2019. The next Mahotsavam is Sahasra (1000) Chandi Maha Yagna to be celebrated from August 2 to 11, 2019. As the integral part of this Mahotsavam is Aradhana to utsava murthies of various devis adored in Devi Mahatmyam, the temple will be adding the following new Utsava Murthies (Vigrahas) - Goddesses Durga, Lakshmi and Sarasvati as well as Chandika Parameshwari who represents the primordial power (Adi Shakthi) that has manifested as the three forms of devis.

What is the importance of Utsavars? The all-pervasive powers of Supreme Brahman is invoked and installed in the Moola Vigrahas in the GarbhaGruha (sanctum sanctorium) in Hindu temples during Pratishtapana/Kumbhabhishekam. The murthy of that deity always stays there as ‘the Moolasthana Vigraha or ‘the consecrated murthy in the main sanctum’ and this form of consecration is called Sthira Pratishta (one that cannot be moved) and the devotees need to visit the temple to have darshan of this murthy. In order for the deity to be accessible to all people – not only inside but also outside the temple and to people of entire town, the same powers are imbued in a movable vigraha of the deity, made usually of pancha loha (alloy of 5 metals), called Utsava Murthy. This form of consecration is called Chara Prathishta (one that can be moved). These utsava murthies (Utsavars) are taken out of the temple on special days to enable all beings such as animals, birds, and humans everywhere to worship the deity and receive the divine grace. The three new utsava vigrahas for Durga, Lakshmi and Saraswathi will be adorning the moolasthaana of the three Devis at the temple and available for all the future utsavas at the temple.

Significance of Chandika Parameshwari Utsava MurthyDurga Saptasati, the sacred text of 700 shlokas describes the valor and grace of the Divine Mother in three ‘charitas’ or stories of Her manifestation in different forms. All the three Goddesses MahaKali (1st charitam), MahaLakshmi (2nd charitam) and MahaSarasvati (3rd charitam) synergize as Durga or Chandika.

As Chandika Parameshwari, She manifests in different charitams and all times of need, not only to destroy asuras or causes of external evil and negativity , but also to remove internal impediments and impurities bringing inner solace and strength to the devotees. The utsava murthy of Chandika Parameshwari with 18 hands (AshtaDasa Bhuja) represents the combined powers of the three Devis. Each arm carries a weapon or item and each one of them including the weapons has a significance (it is like a password for that particular function!). She is is the spouse of the Supreme (parabrahma swaroopini), present in all beings, is the remover of all the negative energies (Asuras), giver of all Knowledge (para and apara), Good Health, 16 kinds of Wealth, and above all Courage. It is indeed rare to have this form of Devi as Chandika Parameshwari to be consecrated and worshipped in public in additions to Durga, Lakshmi and Saraswati. It seems that already the sincerity of the priests and the devotees towards the Sahasra Chandi Yagna has started to bear fruit! Aradhana or Worship of this form of Devi/Bhagavati on a special utsavams like Sahasra Chandi Yagna that Sri Siva Vishnu Temple will be performing under the leadership of our Aasthana Acharya Sri Shanmukha Sivachariar and our own Temple Priests and acharyas brings immense benefits! Once the Prathistapanas are done for all of these 4 utsava vigrahas, they will have permanent divine presence in our Temple for generations!! Please be part of this glorious aradhana by coming and participating as well as by donating generously for its multivarious aspects such as Utsava Vigrahas, Chandi Parayanams, Homams and all the other special and unique religious functions, many of them conducted for the first time in USA. With your donation you and your family and heirs will feel being part of the Temple for years to come!
