Spring Events at KTL March 2013 KAGYU THEGCHEN LING TIBETAN BUDDHIST MEDITATION CENTER H. E. Paltul Rinpoche is a Tibetan medical doctor and Buddhist teacher of the Barom Kagyu Lineage of Tibetan Buddhism. Rinpoche is also the re-incarnated head of the Pal Demo Tashi Choeling Monastery. Rinpoche was born in 1965 to a nomad family in the Nangchen area. At young age, he already showed an extraordinary interest in the science of medicine. After being ordained as a monk, he had the auspicious opportunity to pass a 5-year apprenticeship with Ven. Yonten Phuntsok, a famous Tibetan doctor, from an unbroken lineage in the Tibetan Medicine and Healing tradition. Shortly after his graduation, he was recognized as the 5th incarnation of Pora Tulku Rinpoche, founder and abbot of the Pal Demo Monastery. Paltul Rinpoche received all four tantras of Tibetan medicine, various empowerments, oral transmissions and all other secret instructions, and served as Ven. Yonten Phuntsok's personal assistant He also received initiations, teachings and instructions from many high Tibetan masters such as H.H. the 17th Karmapa, H.H. Sakya Trizin, H.H. Tai Situ Rinpoche, H.E. Thrangu Rinpoche, Jamyang Kongtrul Rinpoche, Bokar Rinpoche, Khenpo Tsultrim Gyatso Rinpoche. The Stupa of Pal Demo Tashi Choeling, Nangchen Par-Ka, Eastern Tibet. The first Pora Tulku Rinpoche built the Pal Demo Tashi Choeling Monastery approximately 700 hundred years ago. The Pora Tulku Rinpoches were renowned meditation masters and physicians inTibet. Today, Ven. Paltul Rinpoche heads the Pal Demo Tashi Choeling Monastery and is overseeing the construction of a new hospital, medical school and retreat center. Ven. The historical Buddha Shakya- muni taught the medical text Vimalagotra (Tib: Dri-med Rigs) simultaneously with the First Turning of the Wheel of Dharma and the Four Noble Truths at Sarnath. According to Tibetan medicine, disease is caused by one’s ignorance or delusion, an imbalance of the three humors’ energies: Wind energy, Bile energy, and Phlegm energy. The root of sickness and disease are the three poisons: Desire, Anger, and Ignorance which are the product of causes and conditions, the karmic result of previous lives. Methods of treatment include diet, behavior modification, herbal medicine (a collection of specially gathered ingredients, spiritually charged with prayer and chant), and physical therapy.
