WHY DO WE LOVE SPRING

BREAK?Because it gives us freedom

to pursue satisfaction with no consequences

SPRING BREAK IS NOT THE PROBLEMOur hearts are the problem

Mark 7:14-23

And he called the people to him again and said to them, “Hear me, all of you, and understand: There is nothing outside a person that by going into him can defile him, but the things that come out of a person are what defile him.” … Do you not see that whatever goes into a person from outside cannot defile him, since it enters not his heart but his stomach, and is expelled?”… And he said, “What comes out of a person is what defiles him. For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person.”

The only one I hadn’t freed was myself. And that’s when my search for identity deepened. I wondered who I’d be without my fame. Who would I be if I said things that people didn’t want to hear, or if I defied their expectations of me? What if I showed up to the party without my Mardi Gras mask…

From an address at a Commencement Ceremony in 2014. He talked about realizing his purpose as a comedian was to “free people from their concern.” Then he says:

This is the voice of the ego, and if you listen to it, there will always be someone who is doing better than you. No matter what you gain, ego will not let you rest. It will tell you that you cannot stop until you’ve left an indelible mark on the earth , unt i l you’ve achieved immortality. How tricky is this ego, that it would tempt us with the promise of something we already possess?

JESUS SAYS,

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO “COME TO JESUS?”

Die to yourself & your search & trust in Him

GIVE UP SEARCHING. COME TO JESUS.

He’s paid for your sin of searching &

He’ll satisfy you more than anything

“ All we like sheep have gone astray;

we have turned — every one — to his own way;

and the Lord has laid on Him

the iniquity of us all.

Isaiah 53:6

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO “COME TO JESUS?”

Die to yourself & your search & trust in Him

“ And calling the crowd to him with his disciples, he said to them, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel's will save it. For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul? For what can a man give in return for his soul?
