We parents lead busy lives. By the time we finish work and pick up our children, it’s time to get home, get dinner on the table, and get ready for bed! It seems like you rarely get time to slow down and enjoy the family that you’ve built. That’s why on the weekends, it’s important to carve out some time for some fun with your family. There are lots of spring activities in St. Louis that you can enjoy with your little ones, many of which are free! So this weekend, as they weather warms up and the sun starts shining down on us, take some time to enjoy all of the fun things that the big city nearby has to offer!

St. Louis ZOO

With over 19,000 wild animals to see, the St. Louis Zoo is a new experience every single time! Whether you’re trekking through River’s Edge to find the newest baby elephant, Priya, or you’re exploring the Red Rocks in search of the purple-tongued giraffes.

Your family is sure to love all that one of the nation’s top zoos has to offer. And considering school children donated their pennies to purchase the zoo’s first elephant, Miss Jim, in 1916, it’s the perfect place for your children to marvel at the animals, and at the history throughout the zoo.

The magic house For creative, hands-

on learning, it’s tough to beat the Magic House in Kirkwood. With over 55,000 square feet full of activities specifically designed for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers, your child can investigate and explore everything from static electricity to musical instruments to an entire village created just for them!

And with an area designated just for babies, you can have fun with your littlest ones, without the fear that they’ll get run over by excited older kids. Throughout the year, they host special events such as Sid the Science Kid: The Super-Duper Exhibit going on through April 30, 2014. You’ll find yourself climbing, crawling, and learning right along with your child!

St. Louis Science center

Located in beautiful Forest Park, the Science Center has fun things to see and do for all age groups! From the inticate marble maze above the ticket counter to the animatronic T-Rex, your little one will be captivated by all there is to see and do!

The Discovery Room is designed for toddlers and preschool age children, with activities and events set up just for them!  And don’t forget the outside area by the Planetarium with even more things to explore and play…and even more dinosaurs to see!

St. Louis Botanical gardens

When it comes to spring activities in St. Louis involving young children, the Botanical Gardens might not immediately come to mind, but it should! With different gardens and pathways to explore, a maze to navigate, herbs to smell, and fountains galore there is so much for children to see and do.

The Doris A. Schnuck Children’s Garden opens up on March 29th, giving children even more to do! There’s a limestone cave to explore, a steamboat to board, a tree-house to climb around, and a prairie village to experience. The St. Louis Botanical Gardens is hands-on fun for the entire family!

Faust Park and the St. Louis Carousel

Located in Chesterfield, Faust Park is home to both the Sophia M. Sachs Butterfly House and the St. Louis Carousel. Both exhibits are kid-friendly fun!  Then step into the Butterfly House and watch as the beautiful butterflies circle around you, maybe even landing on you or your child!

When you’re done, stroll on over to the St. Louis Carousel where your child can take a ride on an original carousel from Forest Park in the 1920′s. It’s a great place to have a variety of experiences all in one trip! Take a walk through the museum and talk with your child about the caterpillars and cocoons featured throughout.

There are so many fun spring activities in St. Louis! And when you add in annual events like Queeny Park’s Spring Art Fair and special events such as Cakeway to the West there’s always something exciting to do! It’s hard to carve out special trips with your little one, and sometimes it feels like those tidbits of free time get filled up so quickly with responsibilities, but those fun times make memories that last a lifetime. So next time you have a free day, look at all the fun you and your child can have exploring the city!
