XenCharacter Design, Fall 2014

Xen is a creature of two beings but one body and of two forms, possessing one form in the physical world and a different one in the spiritual world. Xen does not have a particular gender, but is rather a representation of balance and duality. One side cannot survive without the other. References were drawn from Asian mythology and religion.

cannot help but be charmed by his determination despite not being fit to survive her world at all. Yet that fact soon catches up with them as Kasai’s body starts to suffer. Yuki is left with little choice but to sacrifice his memory of her so that he may live on.

Kasai, a clumsy but warm-hearted male, stumbles upon Yuki’s secret by chance: A guardian of the ice and snow that has been trapped in tiger form by day and her true form at night. Consumed by curiosity, he fol-lows her around much to her dismay. As they travel along, Yuki

The Snow QueenCharacter Design, Fall 2014

The personalities and descriptions of the characters from the Snow Queen by Hans Christian Anderson were paralled with different arctic animals and the swamp biome to create a new setting for the tale. Although labeled ‘Queen’, the Snow Queen was intentionally designed to be more androgynous to shift the focus to her mystery and magic. The Goblin, perhaps assumed to be male, was instead interpreted as female to make her comparable to the Snow Queen as powerful spirits of their world.

Red Planet

Character Design, Fall 2014

With consideration of the textdescriptions and dialogue from the short novel Red Planet by Robert A. Heinlein, the designs for Jim, a human living on Mars, and his two Martian compan-ions, Willis and Gekko, were based on the natural characteristics of reptiles and amphibians. Jim, an foreigner of the planet, has a suit modeled after lizards that have been adapted to live on deserts. Water was hinted to be especially important for the Martians, being part of not only their origins but also their religion. However, they have since adapted to survive on both land and water.

VISUAL DEVELOPMENT

Ink Illustrations2013 - 2014

Illustrations are drawn with 0.38 black pens during my freetime or when inspiration strikes. I draw from observations or compile different

pieces of creations I have come across to create a new piece.

2013 - 2014

I play with colors and forms to visualize the environments and characters of the stories I write in my free time. I use a Bamboo pen tablet and a combination of Photoshop and Paint Tool SAI.

Introduction to Animation, 2014

Assigned to adapt an everyday thing into a wind up toy, I vouched for designing a toy that would work in water. After a few drafts, I ren-dered and animated the koi in Autodesk Maya.

Deserted Cavern

Introduction to Animation, 2014

As a final project, we were assigned to design another character or an environment. I decided to model an island cavern with traces of life someone

living in it. Video: https://vimeo.com/114691533

Interior Design, Fall 2013

Focusing on the treasures of the client’s life, music and food, the restaurant design for Pianta is a concept of going on an adventure to finding the hidden pearls of the ocean. The structural elements as well as furniture play on the different aspects of an oyster shell and historical wooden ships.

Hidden AGENDAInterior Design, Spring 2014

Hidden Agenda is an indie music organization located in Hong Kong that is very involved in the political scene. The future workplace was required to be atop a barge to address the crowding of the city. With the loca-tion and the client in mind, we designed a space that not only supported their work but showed their identity and philosophies.

Collaborated on Concept Development & Sketches, Floorplans. Solely responsible for Renderings, Furniture System Design.

Interior Design, Spring 2014

The aim of the Hotel Icon Project was to re-define ‘luxury’ and change the concept of what a hotel is. Recognizing the health and sustainability trends, the design of our Spa and Hotel Room took them to the next level to emphasize transparency and encourage the guests to partake in helping the green movement by literally designing them into the architecture of the building.

Collaborated on Concept Development, Floorplans. Responsible for renderings, concept collages, final filtering system.

Design Charette, Winter 2014

As part of a one-day Design Charette, we were asked to re-design the office of an IT Company, ViewPoint, to support their current needs but also to support their future growth. Deciding on the concept of Circuits, we translated different aspects to create a space that encouraged more interaction and sharing of knowledge between the departments. Our design was chosen for first place.

Following the charette, we were allowed to refine our design.

Charette: Concept Development, Concept Statement, Sketches. Editing Stage: Renderings, Floorplan.
