PMR 2008 :

A very good morning to our principal, Encik Ahmad bin Kasimah, teachers and all my friends. First of all, I would like to express my sincere appreciation to Mrs. Tan for giving me this opportunity to speak today. The title of my speech is ‘Safety Measures in School’.

Of late, there have been quite a few accidents that occurred in our school. The latest case was a student from Form Three Berlian who slipped and fell in the toilet. Even though our school can be considered to be a safe place, there are still a few locations in our school were we have to take precautions to prevent any untoward incidents.

One of the locations in school were safety should be emphasised is the Living Skill Rooms. There are many utensils and sharp tools such as knives, hammers, saws or scissors which can endanger or injure students here. You need to handle these utensils and tools with great care. You should also follow the teachers’ instructions when in these rooms.

Moreover, you need to be careful when using the stairs. You should always remember to walk in a line and to keep to the left. Avoid pushing and running along the staircase, even if you are late for a class. This will prevent you from missing a step and injuring yourself in a fall while going up or down the stairs.

Next, observe the Dos and Don’ts when you are in the science laboratory, especially during practical lessons. When you are using the Bunsen burner or chemicals, you need to be extra careful. Remember, after you have conducted the experiments, make sure you put the apparatus back in the right place.

Besides, the school canteen is another favourite spot among students. During recess, it is crowded with students buying food and drinks. Bear in mind not to crowd around the stalls when you want to buy your food and drinks. Remember to queue up in an orderly manner. This will ensure your safety and avoid accidents in the canteen.

In conclusion, it is very important for us to adopt safety measures in school. Safety for students is of utmost importance. Remember the wise saying, “It is better to be safe than sorry”. Thank you.

MODEL PMR QUESTION

There has been an increase in the number of robberies in your area. You have been asked to give a speech at your school assembly on how to defend your homes from burglars. You have make the following notes.

Ensure that all doors, windows and gates are locked before you go to sleep or before you leave the house

Have additional security devices like an alarm, a peep hole, safety-chain catch and good padlocks.

Avoid keeping too much money or valuables in your house. If you are going on a holiday, stop the delivery of newspaper.

MODEL ANSWER

GreetingIntroducingof the topic

Good morning to our principal, senior assistants, teachers and friends. Today, I wish to give a talk on how to ensure the safety of our homes and prevent housebreaking.

Additional information

Statistics provided by the Police Department revealed that cases of house-breaking had soared last year compared to the previous years. Our lackadaisical attitude towards home security resulted in burglars gaining easy entry to our homes.

Main point

Elaboration

How can we ensure the safety of our homes? First of all, ensure that all doors, windows and gates are locked before we go to sleep or before we leave our homes. Sometimes we leave our grilles ajar and sometimes we leave our door keys dangling from the lock.

Main point

Elaboration

We should have additional security devices like an alarm, a peep hole, safety-chain latch and good padlocks. Statistics reveal that installing a burglar’s alarm is the best investment for home security. Having a peep hole and safety-chain latch will prevent unwelcome guests from entering your home.

Main point

Elaboration

In addition, we should avoid keeping too much money or valuables in the house. Keeping them in a bank is always a better guarantee for the safety of our valuables

If you are planning to go on a holiday then make sure you halt the delivery of newspapers so that it does not seem obvious that there is nobody at home

Ending

Thank the audience

So my dear friends, I hope that we will pay attention to these preventive measures that we often overlook. Remember “ Prevention is better than cure”. Thank you.
