What do they cost for EDU
In doubt check licensing model with your LAR (Comparex for Higher Education) On Premises: Server License necessary for every running instance of the software + CAL (Client Access License) for each person or device accessing the SP Server. Choose between Standard & Enterprise CAL depending on Server License. Foundation is Free. Online: SharePoint Plan 1 is a part of the A2 license, which is for free for Education for Students & Staff. SharePoint Plan 2 is a part of the A3 license which is not for free.

What are the difference for End Users: Sharepoint Online
All the features that are not manageable by admins will influence the US for Power & End Users. SharePoint Online is an online service. Your ISP connection should be scaled to the number of users that are going to connect to SharePoint Online. More and more products are being developed for SharePoint On Premises & Online. Workflows are possible with SharePoint Designer, SandBox Visual Studio Workflows & 3rd party Tools e.g. NinTex.

What are the difference for Developers: Sharepoint Online
Apps in 2013…are not executed in SharePoint App pool…are in most of the cases not even running on SP Server…can have full trust, with user’s approval (OAuth)…can access SharePoint Data…can access outer world non-SharePoint Data…can use any external resources…can be executed in it’s own chrome, as app parts, or as SharePoint extensions
Why should you use apps?
Isolated (safe!) Multi-tenant Multiple development possibilities (even non-MS stack) Easier to deploy (no SharePointisms by deployment) Easier to maintain (lifecycle – versioning, upgrades) Manageable (Office Store, Corporate Catalog)
Cloud ready!
Information Management & Governancethe same rules still apply …
WHY HYBRID
