The first unit in any row of a SpacesaverRotary Storage System is always a Starter.Each additional unit is either an Adder Unitor a Full Adder Unit, depending on thecapacity and access requirements or spaceallocation and floor plan design.

Stand-alone or single units are alwaysStarters.

As you can see from the illustration, StarterUnits include all the components that arenecessary to stand alone or begin a row ofRotary Storage Units.

Some offices begin with a single Starter Unitand then additional units are added asstorage requirements increase. This scenariois fairly typical in a professional office oraccounting application. In other scenarios,such as an executive office, Spacesaver RotaryStorage Units hold so much material that asingle unit may be the only storage required.

The 3D illustration shows our 6 Plus Unit inthe "F" designation, that is, with shelves anddividers for standard end-tab filingapplications. The entire part number for theillustration is PFS362576F. The part numberbreaks down as follows:

ADDER UNIT

Once a Starter Unit is in place, adding morecapacity could not be simpler…it's called anAdder Unit. The number of units that you addis only limited by the physical restraints ofthe office design or the capacity that yourequire.

Adder units bolt immediately to any unit, nodrilling is required.

As you can see from the 3D illustration,Adder Units always connect to another unit asthe Adder Unit is not self-sufficient.However, at any time in the future an AdderUnit can be converted to a Starter with thepurchase of a Conversion Kit. Adder Unitsshare rotation space with the Starter Unit,and as a result, adjacent units cannot berotated at the same time.

The 3D illustration shows the SpacesaverRotary Storage in the “E” or emptyconfiguration. This way the interiors can becustomized for your specific needs. FULL ADDER UNIT

Spacesaver Rotary Storage is unique in thatwe offer two different styles of "Adder" units.This page highlights the differences betweenan Adder and a Full Adder.

As the name implies, Full Adder units stillrequire a Starter Unit to begin the row ofunits but a Full Adder does not share anyspace with the Starter. This means that youcan rotate a Starter and a Full Adder unit atthe same time. See the 2D (Top View)illustration above for a closer look as to howwe accomplish this feat. For thoseapplications where multiple persons andcontinuous access is important, then the FullAdder is the unit to specify.

The 3D illustration shows our 6 Plus FullAdder unit in the "RO" configuration. Thelower four openings are equipped with ROHanging Folder Drawers. Openings above thedrawers will be equipped with shelves anddividers. The illustration's part number isPFFA362576RO and it breaks down as follows:

ACCESSORY GUIDE

The Adjustable Shelf is the accessorysupplied as standard equipment in all unitsdesignated as “F.” Units designated as “RO”include the Adjustable Shelf on all openingsabove the RO Hanging Folder Drawers.

The Recessed Shelf is slotted every inch forshelf dividers but provides two distinctfeatures, compared to the Adjustable Shelf.When used in Legal-size units, the shelfdepth is twelve inches, the perfect size forletter-size documents, 3-ring binders, etc(including A4-Size material). With theRecessed Shelf there is no need for“shortstops” (or any other primitive device)to allow for this filing and storageapplication.

The second feature is a bit more subtle. Byshortening the depth of the shelf, endtab filefolders cantilever over the edge of the shelfitself. This provides for greater vision of thefolders located below any shelf thusspeeding the filing and retrieval ofdocuments.

Incorporated into the underside design ofeach shelf is a slotted divider strip to allowfor the secure attachment of any divider. Allshelves are finished in a Slate Gray powdercoat finish.

PARTS SPECIFICATIONS

The Adjustable Shelf is slotted every inch toaccept dividers. Letter-size shelves have onestiffener welded below to prevent deflectionunder heavy loads; legal size shelves have two.

All Adjustable Shelves are notched for aperfect fit above a Security Drawer. For X-Ray(on end) applications, an additional stiffeneris added for strength. Consult the factory forpricing and delivery of this option.

Tech Data: Textured Paint. The powder coatsurface on the exterior of all Rotary StorageUnits is a rich and luxurious texture. Glossis set at a maximum of 55%...the industrystandard.

RECESSED SHELF



Rotary Storage dividers utilize a uniquethree-point attachment. Each divider hooksinto two slots punched into every shelf, aswell as a third point integrated into thebottom of the shelf above. This three-pointsupport maximizes shelf depth and allows foroversized documents to be housed withgreater flexibility, such as expandable filepockets. Dividers are the same depth forboth letter and legal-size shelves.

Dividers are available, by height, for all sizeopenings 4.75” through 18.75” and arepackaged four per box. Dividers aresupplied in Slate Gray powder coat finish.

Rotary Storage Units require a “rotationspace” in both the front and rear of each unit.This rotation space provides the clearancenecessary for the operator torotate any unit. For Letter-sizeunits the space is 5 7/8”minimum; for Legal-size 7 1/4”.

The rotation space in the frontof each unit utilizes existingaisle space and is only an issuein the taller units whereoverhanging signs or lightingmay be present.

The rotation space behind eachunit can be camouflaged byusing the Rotation SpaceClosure Strip. Made of cold-rolled steel and painted tomatch the outside of any unit,the strips are available in bothsingle-depth and double-depthsizes. In addition, both depthscan be customized for useunder Extended Canopy Tops. Thesedecorative strips provide a clean and aestheticfinishing touch to any installation.

The RO Drawer is the backbone of mostRotary Storage roll-out accessories. All ROcomponents exceed BIFMA strengthprotocols. The torsion spring-activatedthumblatch is exclusive to the industry, as arethe time-saving installation procedures. Theslide attaches to itself through a pre-punchedhole in the door louver. Anti-rocker shafts areformed into the precision-bearing slides toeliminate pronation during extension.

Section 1: Summary of WorkA. Vendor will furnish all labor, materials, equipment,

tools, supervision, and services required to install thecomplete and fully operational Rotary StorageSystems as specified or shown on any of theattached drawings. (Regulating body permit feesexcluded.)

B. It is the vendor's responsibility to field verify alldimensions prior to ordering the system andbeginning the installation. Vendor will coordinate theinstallation with both the owner and any other tradesperforming work at the job site.

C. The entire installation will be warranted againstdefects in material and workmanship for a minimumperiod of five years, including labor. Additionally, theentire base, rotor bottom, and respective integratedcomponents will be warranted against defects inmaterials and workmanship for a period of ten years.Finally, all rotation surfaces on both the stationarybase and the rotor bottom will be warranted for alifetime. Lifetime is defined as "for as long as theoriginal owner possesses the equipment."

D. It is the vendor's responsibility to provide cer tificatesof insurance for both general liability and workman'scompensation. In addition, vendor will establish thatthey are a licensed contractor within the jurisdictionof this project.

E. The Technical Specifications that follow this summaryare meant to establish the level of quality that hasbeen established as a requisite for this project. Biddermust identify, in detail sufficient to allow for theevaluation of bidder's offer, any deviations from theserequirements. Failure to identify any deviation will because for rejection of bidder's proposal as non-responsive.

Section 2: Submittals RequiredA. Qualifications (submit with bid as attachment #1).

Each bidder will include a list of at least ten (10)filing, storage, or other materials managementprojects of equal or greater size than this project.That list must include customer's name, address,phone number, and a contact. In addition, a briefproject description that describes the bidder'sinvolvement and responsibilities essential to thecompletion of the project must be included. Finally,the date that the equipment was installed and theunique system features that each example representsmust be included. In addition, the resume of the salesagent responsible for the project may also beincluded for the owner's review.

B. Drawings (submit with bid as attachment #2). Eachbidder must submit drawings that accurately reflectall dimensions and per tinent features of the rotarystorage system. Profiles will include both 2D and 3Dperspectives, location of accessories, and size ofopenings.

C. Manufacturer's Literature (submit with bid asattachment #3). Each bidder must submit completespecifications of any alternative product offered.

D. Bill of Materials (submit with bid as attachment #4).Each bidder will submit a complete bill of materials,an itemized breakdown of components andinstallation/service instructions. Exact quantities, par tnumbers, and descriptions must be provided. Generaldescriptions of units provided and interiorconfigurations are not acceptable. Failure to providean accurate bill of materials is cause for rejection ofbid.

E. Maintenance and Service (submit with bid asattachment #5). Each bidder will submit the locationof the office that will perform maintenance, service,and warranty work. Each bidder will also specify aresponse time to service requests from owner. Ifvendor is proposing a maintenance agreement thismust be itemized separately.

The above submittals are mandatory. Bids lacking in anydetail will be rejected as non-responsive.

F. The owner for comparison purposes may requestindividual components. The components must bemade available at no charge. If bidder is selected toprovide product for the project, then the componentsmay become par t of the project for the successfulbidder provided that color, size, etc. are compatible.

G. All components must be new. All components will bedelivered to the mutually agreed to location in newfactory boxes. Packaging will exceed common carrierrequirements. Materials will be shipped Class 70 orhigher. At all times freight management is theresponsibility of the vendor. Owner will not berequired to file freight claims, call for inspection, orreimburse vendor for freight damages or freightdamaged components.

H. After assembly, the vendor will clean all surfaces andthen take whatever protective measures arenecessary to protect the installation from damageduring any remaining construction.

I. Training sessions must be scheduled with eachoperator. Training must be available at no additionalcost to the owner.

Section 3: Technical Specifications/ComponentsA. The Rotary Storage System must have the following

mandatory characteristics.

1. Units will be available as Star ters, Adders, andFull Adders.

2. Units will available in a minimum of twelve (12)standard heights.

3. If specified, options shall exist which guaranteesthat additional units may be attachable from eitherside of any of the above units without thenecessity of relocating an existing unit.

4. Locks are to be included. Locks will becoordinated with all other products from thechosen manufacturer. Multiple key options mustexist.

5. Vinyl door strips must consist of two separatematerials. The exposed por tion of the vinyl doorstrip must be soft and flexible. The spine of thevinyl door strip must be rigid to allow forinstallation into the post of each unit whilecontrolling any residual shrinkage.

6. The rotating interior will be identical for allmodels, with the exception of height, based onletter-size or legal-size units.

7. External painted surfaces will be a textured orraised surface to hide operator's fingerprints orweld marks created during the manufacturingprocess.

8. Powdercoat surfaces are mandatory. Twenty (20)standard colors will be offered.

9. Special colors must also be available.

10. Touch up paint must be included in every Star terunit (Standard colors only).

11. Installation, freight, and inside delivery is to beincluded, but may be itemized separately in thequotation.

B. Rotary Base Specifications

1. Bases will be fabricated with minimum 12 gaugecold rolled steel that is deep drawn into acolumnar design for maximum strength and aminimum of materials.

2. A base cover of 16 gauge will be welded to thedeep-draw sub-component to give the entirerotary base a clean and aesthetic appearance. Nowelds are permitted on the rotation surfaces ofthe rotor base or the rotor bottom.

3. Dual foot pedals will be standard. Each pedal willbe equipped with a non-slip vinyl surface.

4. Foot pedals will be connected to the self-centering latch mechanism via zinc plated indexpawls which are in turn attached to a zinc platedbell crank. Pedals will return to their properresting-place automatically through the use ofspring tension.

5. Latch mechanism will consist of seven (7) totalcomponents, not inclusive of fasteners. Six (6) ofthe components will be a system of carbon-lubricated shives; the seventh is the latch itself.The entire latch mechanism will be automaticallyactivated by the release of the foot pedal and theoperator's rotation. A 2,000-lb. die spring willcatch the rotating interior and safely stop rotation.Latch mechanism must be capable of engaging,stopping the rotating interior every quarter turndirectly through the operator's control of the footpedal.

SPECIFICATIONS



6. A zinc-plated lock bar will activate through theexternal lock on the unit. The unit will have three(3) locking positions. Position one is the unlockedposition, where the latch engages upon theoperator's release of the foot pedal duringrotation. Position two is the locked position, eitheropen or closed as the operator determines.Position three is "free spin" whereby the operatorcan lock the pedal down and disengage the latchmechanism for ADA compliance.

7. In the locked position an additional securitydevice will prevent the interior from being forcedopen.

8. All the above components will be field serviceableand replaceable. All fasteners will be removable.Under no circumstances must it be necessary toreplace the rotary base for simple field repairs.

9. The self-centering mechanism, consisting of thebell crank; the latch mechanism; and the lock baractivated security device, will be attached to therotary base using both fasteners and oil-impregnated bronze bushings. No lubrication willbe necessary in either the factory assembly orinstallation procedures. Neither will it necessaryto lubricate these components in the field.

10. The rotor base will be assembled after painting atthe factory. Pre-paint assembly of any of thesecomponents is not acceptable.

11. Leveling of the rotor base will be accomplishedthrough four independently adjustable levelingdomes. In seismic zones the levelers will beGrade 5. Calculations indicating compliance withthe most current building codes must besubmitted where applicable.

12. Access to the bell crank, pawls, and lock bar willalso be available through an access panel locatedin the top of the rotor base. Punched holes are notinsufficient.

13. Upon request, testing data demonstrating the lifecycle of the pedal-related mechanisms must beavailable. That data must be based on a minimumof 500,000 pedal activations. Fur ther, the datamust demonstrate that after the testing, themechanism still responds to the operator'sactions.

14. A press-formed raceway, circular in design, willcapture the ball bearings and prevent burnishmentof the rotor base.

15. Letter-size units will have a minimum of twenty-two (22) five-eighths diameter hardened carbonsteel ball bearings. Legal-size will have aminimum of for ty-four (44) ball bearings.

16. The back of the rotor base will be punched toaccept rotation space closure strips.

C. Assembled Rotor Bottom Specifications

1. The rotor bottom consists of four majorcomponents: The deep drawn rotor bottom, an

integrated and slotted rotor base shelf pan, acircular ball bearing cage, and the carriage bolt/oilimpregnated bronze bushing/lock nut fastener.

2. The deep draw rotor bottom will be fabricatedfrom 12-gauge cold rolled steel.

3. The deep draw rotor bottom will have a circularpress formed raceway which matches perfectlythe identical raceway formed in the rotary base.The combination of these two identical racewayswill create a circular channel within which all ballbearings will rotate. This design eliminatesburnishment of the steel components. In effect,the surfaces will last a lifetime. No other detail isacceptable.

4. The rotor base shelf pan will be slotted to acceptstandard dividers and the DAC divider (patentpending.)

5. The ball cage will secure each individual ballbearing within a circular notched design. The ballcage will be fabricated from 16 gauge steel.

6. The assembled rotor bottom will attach to theBase with a minimum one-half inch carriage bolt.An oil impregnated bronze bushing will providecontinuous lubrication. A lock nut will secure theconnection. No other styled connection will beaccepted.

D. Doors, Center Panel, Rotor Top, and Canopy Top

1. Doors will consist of an inner door panel and anouter door panel, which are welded to form onestructure. Doors attach to the rotor bottomwithout the need for fasteners of any type.

2. Shelves and RO Accessories will attach to theinner door panel at not more than one and threequar ter inch adjustability.

3. All shelves and RO accessories will be suppor tedat a minimum of four points.

4. Attachment of RO accessories will be incombination of both door louvers and four metalscrews. The door louvers are to be punched forthis specific purpose.

5. Shelves may be attached with screws, but it isnot required, except above security drawers.

6. Center panels will be full-length and triple-flangedto meet and connect to the doors and the rotorbottom. An option for pass through shelves mustalso be available when specified.

7. The center panel will attach to the door every fiveand one-half inches. The attachment will be by aunique clip and screw fastener. The same stylefastener will attach the center panel to the rotorbottom as well.

8. The rotor top will compression fit into the door.No fasteners of any type are required.

9. The rotor top will have slotted strips integrated intothe design so that both standard and DAC dividerscan be used in the top openings of any unit.

10. An oil impregnated bronze bushing will beintegrated into the rotor top design to allow thecanopy top to secure the rotating center ofgravity.

11. The canopy top will be sized to reflect the overalldepth and width of each unit.

12. The canopy top will be reinforced for strength andto eliminate shipping damage.

E. End Panels, Posts, and Vinyl Door Strips

1. Each Star ter unit will be complete with two endpanels, four posts, and four vinyl door strips.

2. Each Adder unit will be complete with two postsand four vinyl door strips.

3. Each Full Adder will be complete with four posts,four vinyl door strips and two post fillers.

4. The design of the post will include a reverse bevelfor clearance during rotation.

5. The vinyl door strips will be available in a varietyof colors to match the most popular standardcolors.

6. The vinyl door strip will snap-fit into the post for asmooth and flush appearance. Self-adhesive doorstrips are not acceptable.

7. End panels and posts will connect to each otherwithout the need of fasteners of any type. The endpanel/post assembly will connect to both the baseand the canopy tops with minimum of five-sixteenths inch bolts.

8. Locks will be installed on the post immediatelyabove the primary foot pedal.

9. An identification ring will be placed around thelock to identify the servicing Area Contractor forSpacesaver Corporation.

G. Accessories: Internal and External

1. A full range of accessories will be available toeffectively store all types of files, folders, multi-media components, books, binders, hangingfolders, etc.

2. Bidder agrees that any specified standardaccessory will remain available to owner for theentire five-year warranty period.

3. External accessories will include: extendedcanopy tops, rotation space closure strips,laminated door face options, fabric wrapped tackboards which cover the end panels, range findersand card holders.

4. All new accessories will be designed to beinstalled within the specified Rotary StorageUnits.
