Upcoming Mini Ministry Fair

January 30/31

Before, after and in-between worship services in the Narthex. (Due to the coming snowstorm, the fair for this weekend has been cancelled.)

Please plan to participate in our upcoming mini Ministry Fair scheduled for January 30/31. The fair will be held in the Narthex before, after and in-between the worship services on those weekends and will focus on ministries associated with families and youth at Prince of Peace, along with LCEF and Thrivent. Ministry fairs are a wonderful opportunity for you to find out about the multitude of ministries offered at Prince of Peace and the many volunteers that support them. They also provide you the chance to get involved and serve in areas of interest to you. Please make time to stop by the ministry displays and visit with the leaders who are currently involved. You never know how it may change your life! Lori Stillman and Stacey Crosson 703-451-5855 [email protected]; [email protected]

Bimbo Bakery of Newington donates products, but ECHO has to transport them to their building in Springfield. This is usually a Thursday morning activity. Training is provided. Also, Donation Door volunteers are needed on Mondays from 9:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Some heavy lifting is involved since these volunteers assist donors in getting their donated items into our building. It is not necessary to commit to every Monday. If you would like to find out more about these volunteer positions, please contact ECHO at [email protected].

This month, ECHO especially needs personal care items such as deodorant, laundry detergent, toothpaste, razors, shaving cream and toilet tissue as well as over-the-counter adult and children’s cold and pain medicines. ECHO also urgently needs infant clothing and diapers. If you have a sewing machine or working vacuum cleaner that you do not use, please consider giving it to a needy family through ECHO.

All donations may be brought to 7205 Old Keene Mill Road, Springfield, during our regular hours of operation, weekdays from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and Tuesday through Thursday evenings, 7 to 9 p.m.

Eccumenical Community Helping Others

Volunteer Opportunities and Needs

ECHO has an urgent need for volunteers who have large vehicles (van or SUV) and who could commit to one or more weekly “bread runs” for the ECHO Food Pantry each month.

The Sparklers Senior Luncheon

February 19 The group gathered on a gloomy January day to lunch

on home-made soups and salads. Our member Nelson Latona informed us on the progress and challenges of the church's outreach program in Peru and Haiti. At our next meeting on February 19, tacos will be on the menu. Please mark this date on your calendar.

We thank all those who made this event possible. Marlis McKay 703 239-8562 [email protected]

Contagious Disciple Making

Saturday, February 6 8:30am-4pm St. John's Lutheran Church, Alexandria, VA Author Paul Watson will map out a simple method that has sparked an explosion of homegrown churches in the United States and around the world. In this interactive workshop, we’ll learn how disciple makers embrace lessons taught by failure, realize structure of community determines the strategy used to make disciples, understand the importance of obedience, be a disciple who makes disciples, engage the lost and find persons of peace. Registration: $30 online at www.sjlc.com by February 1 Day of event $35. Yvette Moy (703) 455-1066 [email protected]

National Lutheran Schools Week ~ January 24th - 30th

National Lutheran Schools Week provides our network of nearly 2,300 LCMS preschools, elementary schools and high schools with the public opportunity to proclaim and celebrate God’s work among us in Lutheran schools. We thank God for the opportunity to provide excellent academic preparation for the children we serve. We are most grateful for the opportunity to share Jesus’ amazing love with children and their families. National Lutheran Schools Week gives us an opportunity to proclaim these great blessings within the communities we serve.

As a ministry of our church, it is a privilege for us, the staff at Prince of Peace Lutheran School, to play such an important role in the outreach to our surrounding community. We are blessed to offer a quality early childhood program staffed by dedicated, well-educated, Christian professionals, committed to nurturing children in their learning and to work with parents as partners in the education of their children. If you would like to participate in our Scholarship Program, or would just like to make a one-time donation to the school for additional classroom supplies or books, please go to our website at www.poplc.org/school. We appreciate the generosity of our congregation and thank God for all of you! Cindy Deatherage, Principal 703 451 6177 [email protected]

Wednesdays, 9:30-11:30am Fellowship Hall

During Wednesday WoW this past week, ladies had the opportunity to gather in a circle around expectant mother, Deborah Yearwood, to bless her on her birthing way (she is due in two weeks!) Words of Scripture and prayers for blessing washed over her and her baby girl. It was a powerful testimony to the gift of God’s Spirit in, and through, the gift of fellowship and community. Wednesday WoW meets every Wednesday in the Fellowship Hall at 9:30 a.m. Refreshments and free childcare are available. All are welcome! Please take a brochure from the women’s ministry table today! Faith Stories

Sharing your faith story is an integral component in living out your faith. Your individual story makes up the greater story—the story of God’s redeeming his people for himself. Our stories encourage other believers while God also uses them to reach those not yet connected to Him. You can share your stories by writing them in the “Friendship Folder” at any worship service, or post your story as a comment on the http://popfaithstories.wordpress.com, or by sending an e-mail to [email protected].

Faith Story: “I met Lily late summer at an 11 a.m. service when I was serving as a Care Ministry Team member. Lily had been to Prince of Peace before, however, it had been awhile since she had attended. As we spoke after church I asked if she would be interested in getting coffee later that week and she said she’d love to. We saw each other at church often and during one of our conversations I happened to invite Lily to join me at the Wednesday WOW Bible Study. We met there and she was welcomed with open arms. With the WOW’s embrace, Lily made many new connections with our women’s ministry. Lily, her mother and children are lovely and it is always a joy to see her. The good news continues: Just recently Lily was baptized at Prince of Peace, embraced by God through the waters of Baptism, and welcomed to the whole community of faith.” ~PoP Member
