TE JAGAA Ladin name for a story of hospitality and warmth!

TE Jaga means…During the summer the farmers in the Val di Fassa left their villages and went up to their alpine meadows togather hay for the winter. Every meadow had its own small hay barn, and the high mountain valleys are still dottedwith these picturesque little huts.The wooden barns, like little “nests”, were used to store the hay, but they were also useful shelters if the farmerneeded to stop for the night. Then they would make themselves a place to lie down, patting down the hay andshaping it around their body like an embrace (“braciacol” in the Ladin language). From what our grandfathers tellus, we gather that the hay made a soft, comfortable and, above all, warm bed. After the day’s labours, they werelulled by the soothing fragrances of the hay, flowers and medicinal herbs, a natural restorative for mind and body.Sleeping like this was known as “Jon te jaga” by the farmers, in reference to the bed of hay which in Ladin wascalled the “Jaga”. It is the same feeling of calm and rest that comes from lying down in the natural environmentand silence of the mountains after a hard day, that we want to recreate for you in our TE JAGA wellness centre.The Ladin expression TE JAGA implies hospitality and warmth.
