My Vow To Y’all...Dear Ladies of Southern Wedding Magazine, What began as a causal perusal of the “Wedding” category of Pinterest has become so much more over the years. It opened my eyes to an industry that I have fallen in love with, one full of beauty, love, creativity, happiness, laughter, tears and so much more. Most importantly, it brought me to the Southern Wedding website, which has become my “home base”and inspiration.

This past summer, when I saw an ad for a summer internship position I was heartbroken to realize I couldn’t apply, but I vowed to contact y’all about a school-year position. As I started to build an application, I kept telling myself I needed to learn more: discover more event planners, drool over another photographer, pin one more image on Pinterest, love one more image on Lover.ly, before I submitted anything. I kept putting off applying and putting it off in an attempt to perfectly encapsulate my desire for this opportunity.

But, I’ve come to realize that I can’t spend forever learning more on my own about this industry and mak-ing myself a more perfect candidate. I realized that my delay was causing me to miss out on an opportunity to learn from a group of ladies whose work inspires me every day--a group of ladies from whom I could learn from as they learn from me, a group that has made me fall into an even deeper love with weddings and this Southern piece of heaven we live in.

Unlikewithanyotherpublication,Idon’tjustflickthroughSouthernWeddingperusingtheimagesandstopping only if an article catches my eye. Instead, I gobble up the words, letting them melt in my mind like warm pecan pie on my tongue, soaking in their meaning like the warmth of the last rays of the setting sun on a Southern summer night. It’s not just the words, but the chosen photographs as well. Every image captivates the reader not justsuperficially,butviscerallyaswell.Inawaylikenootherpublicationcan,SouthernWeddingdrawsyouinwith southern charm and grace and inspires the heart and mind.

Where I’m from and where I’ve been has helped shape and qualify me for this position. I am from restau-rants, stores and car washes teaching me customer service and the value of hard work. I am from Franklin 5k Public Relations Committee where I learned to lead, to problem solve, to think outside the box and how to reach an audience. I am from the desk in my room spending hours squinting at a computer screen as a taught myself to use Adobe software and Wordpress. I am from a nursing school prerequisite class that taught me sometimes our plans for ourselves don’t match those of God. I am from the UNC School of Journalism where my creativity can shine and a new dream can form. I am from this world of weddings, that as I continue to explore I hope to discover my place in.

My past has lead me to this--crafting this application with the same care y’all use when crafting each issue. And with the same heart, hopes and dreams I ask to be considered for an internship.

I vow to work hard for the joy of it, to never lose my desire to learn, to not let the world get in the way of my creative mind. I vow to listen to others and ask questions when I am unsure, but to know how to work on my own. I vow to give my all to every task-big or small- knowing that each has it’s worth. I vow to inspire and help others and to spread the joy of love and life. I vow to do what ever I can to help this company grow even more. I vow to value this opportunity to learn and grow both professionally and personally. And, I vow to never turn down a warm biscuit or a sweating glass of cold sweet tea.

HOW THEY MET:AmandaandBrianfirstmet in high school when they both attended a student venture beach retreat in Myrtle Beach, SC. After returning to Indiana, they continued talking and even went to prom together, but then fell out of touch. MEANT TO BE: Six year later, Brian went on a business trip to Indiana and decided to look Amanda up and ask her to dinner, and the rest is history! They fell in love and spent thenextyearflyingbackandforthtobewitheach other. THE PROPOSAL: Brian proposed on January 2, 2011 at a beautiful vineyard in North Carolina. THE “I DO’S”: The amazing Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC, served as a fairytale backdrop for this late June weddingTHE BEST, BEST MAN: Amanda surprised Brian with a gift of an amaz-ing watch to wear on the big day, the only problem was that it was a little too big! But thankfully Brian’s best man ran out and had links removed so that Brian could wear his sweet bride’s gift as they stood together at the altar!SOMETHING OLD AND BLUE: The beautifully restored vintage blue truck that is featured in many of the pictures belongs to Brian’s dad.

BECOMING MORE THAN A HUSBAND: This story isn’t just about the love of a man and woman, but the love of a man for a child. Four year ago, Amanda was blessed with the sweetest little boy, Samuel. During the ceremony, Brian acknowl-edged that as he was marrying the love of his life, he was also becoming a father to another soul he had fallen for. He stepped away from the altar to where Samuel was sitting with his grandparents, knelt down and read him a letter: “Most men would run the other way from a single mom, but I can’t run fast enough toward you and your mom.” What beautiful and emotional words! They make the heart full to bursting!

S S A few months after their wedding, Amanda and Brian found out that Amanda had a little bun in the oven and that they would soon be giving Samuel a little sister!
