SOUTH AMERICA DUPED BY REVOLUTIONARY RHETORIC
BY: Jerry Brewer
The buffoonish antics and rhetoric of Venezuelas Hugo Chavez, whose dream forrevolution throughout Latin America, has about as much odds for success as the
Castro regime of fifty plus years. As a modern day scapegoat for Cuban revolution,
Chavezs subterfuge must confuse only the weak of mind and appeal to those thatchoose dominating control due to feelings of intense weakness.
The socialist leader once attempted straight-faced ridicule of the U.S. by declaring
that there was more democracy in Cuba than in the U.S. Chavez has run the gamutof misleading the Venezuelan citizens and other left-leaning people that would lend
him a sympathetic ear, from shouts of impending U.S. invasion of Venezuela, to
periodically announcing that the CIA was trying to assassinate him. This, a clever wayof keeping a watch-dogs eye on his hide, as he throws caution to the wind to patrol
the streets in his car and stop citizens in transit as he is known to do.
These put-ons are clearly much more than what he perceives as reverent power andsleek leadership; they are simply indicative of the deceit and illusion of his dangerous
tenure in control of Venezuelan soil.
Chavezs sleight of hand and smoke and mirrors turns his circus-like improvisation ofBolivarian Revolution, into a country of a peoples revolt for much needed food,
electricity, and better homes and living conditions. Finding their dignity once again
as well as their human rights that have been devaluated under the current regime, should be a primary concern, as well as demanding the truth as to the once proud
nations oil wealth.
It is no secret that Venezuelas massive oil revenue has been squandered away on
multi-billions of dollars worth of weapons and systems, Cuban communist support
mechanisms and training, as well as gifts and giveaways to buy political influence

from left-leaning nations with a hand out. All of this is nothing new from the page books of
revolutionary history- Cuba remains insolvent and its people in misery suffering the same woes. BothCastro and Chavez blame the U.S. for their financial shortcomings.
The real conduits of revolution in Latin America is the muscle itself. It is in the form of revolutionary
guerillas such as the FARC and ELN, as well as paramilitary wannabes recruited from a vast pool of
willing criminals and other gangs throughout Latin America, as well as military deserters. The MexicanZetas were formed in this manner. This long link of revolutionary ideology has impregnated this pool of
recruited talent prone to a propensity for cold blooded death and violence, all the way from South
America to the U.S. border with Mexico.
It is no secret that massive drug trafficking revenue greases their sophisticated wheels of subversion and
primarily funds their raison dtre. Along with this movement of death and destruction is a mentor
known as Hezbollah. Hezbollah remains the most technically-capable terrorist group in the world and acontinued security threat to the United States. Hezbollah is responsible for some of the deadliest terrorist
attacks against Americans in history. The similarities between this group of Islamic fundamentalists and
the Latin American armed insurgents is their shared nature on remaining armed, aggressive, and
unaccountable.
A group called Hezbollah Latin America (HLA), based in Venezuela, set up a Web site to "educate" the
Wayuu tribe of the Guajiros ethnic group that inhabits the eastern part of the country. The group offersits full ideological support to Hezbollah in Lebanon, claiming not to be directly affiliated or financed by
their Lebanese counterparts. The following message was posted by the HLA:
"Latin Muslims today are lining up in the battle next to our Arab brothers for the cause of
AllahThe fate of our Muslim brothers who suffer the effects of the impe rial and Zionist
terrorism, can't be a cause of indifferencewe are prepared to go in the offensive if Israel and
the U.S. do not stop the attacks in Lebanon. If the U.S. doesn't stop its desire to invade Iran, ourIslamic theocracy, we will attack you in Latin America and even inside the U.S. because we have
the means to do it. Our offensive in America can consider the sabotage of supplying oil to the
U.S. from Latin America. You are warned, we are not indifferent to the fate of our brothers."
Two homemade explosive devices were previously found outside the U.S. Embassy in Caracas on. Abox containing one of the bombs was found with leaflets referencing Hezbollah. Authorities believed
the second explosive was to be taken to the Israeli Embassy in Los Ruices. Hezbollah remains of the
best armed and most dangerous militias in the world with capabilities of spying, plotting attacks, and
arms smuggling globally. They have trained thousands of fighters.
Hezbollah has had a strong presence and long history of operating in South America; especially in the
Tri-border-area confluence (TBA) of Argentina, Paraguay, and Brasil in South America where theyhave a foothold. They are supported by Iran, Lebanon, and Syria. Cuban espionage (DGI) has been
linked to nefarious associations with the Iranians, as well as with Venezuela (DISIP). Affiliation with
terrorist organizations and other state sponsors of terrorism has been reported. Hezbollah fundraisingactivity in the form of "financial transactions" on Margarita Island in Venezuela is significant.

U.S. and Mexican intelligence officials reported that a leftist guerrilla movement responsible for many
kidnappings and attacks inside Mexico is secretly receiving funding from Venezuelan President HugoChavez. The group is known as the Ejercito Popular Revolucionario (EPR). The claim is that they are
a terrorist organization bent on destabilizing Mexico. The group, which announced its existence in1996, claimed responsibility for the 2007 bombings of the Mexican government's Pemex oil pipelines,
along with several other bombing attempts of a bank and Sears department stores in cities throughout
Mexico.
A U.S. official claimed that "Chavez has been funding groups like these in Mexico and throughout Latin
America. These groups are nothing more than terrorist organizations and members have connected to
other narco-trafficking organizations in Mexico, creating a very dangerous matrix." Funding from drug
cartels and leftist governments like the one in Caracas has enabled the group to mount a significantthreat to Mexico and to become a concern for the United States, officials said.
A U.S. military official who has worked in the region said Chavez is using the EPR and other leftist
organizations as proxies in an ideological struggle with the United States. One goal is the destabilizationof the Mexican government. EPR has members that are former Cuban agents, Colombians, as well as
others with an agenda to see a shift to the left in Mexico." Members of EPR, in conjunction with narco-traffickers, are suspected of organizing the recent kidnapping of President Felipe Calderone's close
friend and former leader of Mexico's National Action Party, Diego Fernandez de Cevallos.
Over the past 15 years gang proliferation has overwhelmed local law enforcement systems -- especially
in Central America and, in particular, El Salvador and Guatemala. As a result, Latin America is now
home to some of the world's most fearsome third-generation gangs. Central American maras such as
MS-13 and M-18 have tens of thousands of members spread across several countries. The First Capital
Command (PCC) of Sao Paulo, with nearly 100,000 members, dominates the slums and prisons of South
America's largest city and maintains alliances with mafia groups throughout South America, while
cultivating relations with gangs in Central America and the U.S.
Recent events throughout Latin America has made it clear to most that a major threat to the U.S. is via
clandestine transnational organized criminal activity. It is terror related. Organized crime and
transnational terrorism are indeed synonymous. Through this context, the assimilation of terrorists and
organized crime moves toward the center and each group begins to exhibit common characteristics of
both criminality and terrorism.
In whatever form of cooperation or facilitation is chosen by these sinister transnational world menaces,
the results are continued threat, mayhem, and most certainly exploitation of the local communities inthe regions and those that stand in their way.
Although Central America, Mexico and the U.S. experience and confront what is known asnarcoterrorism, many in South America are led and duped into believing this is all simply a political
revolution against capitalism. After a meeting last year with President Ahmadinjejad in Iran, President
Hugo Chavez of Venezuela stated, The brave resistance of the Lebanese people and Hezbollah

symbolizes their indomitable spirit and reveals how the Islamic and Arab world is fed up with U.S.
policy in the region. Ahmadinejad called Chavez My valiant brother.
