Some people prefer to live in a small town. Others prefer to live in a big city. Which place would you prefer to live in? Use specific reasons and details to support your answer.

It depends on the individual taste where people chose to live their lives. When it comes to a place to live, there are usually two basic choices: in a small town or in a big city. While both have their own advantages and disadvantages, I would prefer to live in a big city. I base my opinion on the opportunities that a big city can offer, and the chance to experience cultural and social life at a higher level.

First of all, living in a big city, offers the chance to experience a higher level of education. While in some small towns the only academic institutions are primary schools and high schools, most often, good universities are located in big cities where people may attend these universities and acquire adequate knowledge and competence to apply for an appropriate job.

Another important advantage of living in a big city is the job opportunities. Due to the large number of people, there are more necessities leading to more professions, job positions and companies which are available for young people especially the ones who specialize in specific subjects. In contrast, in a small town, job positions and professions are limited because big companies do not usually establish their headquarters there.

Not only the number of jobs is considerably higher in a big city, but the possibility of a more profitable career. The most important state institutions, companies, public institutions etc. are located in here.

Next, another convenience of big city that small town lacks is the public transportation. Most of small towns do not give a lot of access to various vehicles. On the other hand, it is widely known that big city often offers more choices of public transportation. People living in small towns often have difficulties getting from place to place because of a lack of transportation. If travelers miss a scheduled bus or train, they may have to wait for a long time before they can catch the next one. However, in big towns a variety of transportation choices, including buses, subways and taxis, are available. For example, in the metropolitan city such as New York, the subway runs twenty-four hours for seven days a week and also there are numerous numbers of taxi and bus which spread to every area. As a result, people can go everywhere they want easily with public transportation.

In addition to public transportation, access to greater entertainment facility is another positive aspect of living in a big city. In small town, there are usually limited number of entertainment facility. For instance, in a small town the only distractiont can be a shopping mall located in the city center, a small coffee-shop or a park. Whereas in the big city, not only there are many shopping centers but also the cinemas, Karaoke and concert halls, night clubs, restaurants, pubs and many other places throughout the city that people can go, have fun and relax. This shows clearly that the entertainment facility in the big city provides more convenience and self-indulgence to people that they cannot get if they live in small town. Furthermore people have more opportunities for cultural experiences. In terms of cultural events and entertainment, it is often of better quality in big cities than in small towns. This is because there are more patrons, which means the performances have higher budgets to put on better shows. Big cities also provide a greater variety of events, from newly released movies to cultural festivals. Because of the abundance of entertainment venues, big cities have more events compared to small towns, which have fewer places to hold events. Moreover, it is easy to attend the cultural events in big cities due to the better modes of transportation.

Also, a great variety of shopping choices are available to towns, such as commercial centers, department stores and outdoor markets. People living in urban areas can buy anything they need at any time of the day, but in rural areas the shopping choices are very limited and people usually have to go to other towns or cities in order to purchase particular items.

Finally, the last reason that explains the advantages of life in a big city is the is the excellent facilities provided by big cities for citizens such as emergency services. People have faster access to hospitals, police stations and other services. For example, most best and well-equipped hospitals are located in big towns, a lot of police departments and fire departments are also located here. As a result people living here can feel more safe and secure.

In spite of the undeniable fact that living in a small town has its profound advantages to some extent, such as, enjoying fresh air, peace and quietness, and probably different amazing natural features, if all the mentioned factors are contemplated, the advantages of living in big cities carry more weight than those of small towns. Consequently, according to my personality and fondness, we may reach the conclusion that choosing big cities is a rather wise decision.
